Found this hidden little gem on a whim. It's a bar and restaurant, you place your order for food at the counter and they will bring it to your table. You do have to get your own drinks, silverware, napkins, etc. which is no big deal. The ambience resembled a old surf shop writings on the wall surfboards everywhere. It was really neat to see. The food was really, really good. I had the quesadillas and we had a bacon cheeseburger. Onion rings were homemade I think. Overall, this place was really good and really neat and I were ever back in Corpus Christi. I go again. read more

Went for lunch. They said to order at the bar so I did. It was taking time but I wasn't in too much of a hurry. My food sat at the bar with the server and got cold so I cancelled the order and got a refund. Sad service for a Wednesday lunch. They may have been busy but it felt like the order slipped through the cracks. Lost a half hour of productivity and had to co somewhere else for lunch to boot. This has been a problem at the oyster bar too. Food sits too long and service can be hit or miss. I really wanted a surf burger too. read more

It's a fun place to hang out in the evening. They have great craft beer selections and a full bar. They have a decent amount of food choices, but the food is mediocre. Burgers are dry and the fish tacos are just average. The best part about this place is the live music and open mic nights on the patio they have on most nights of the week - I can't stress the open mic nights enough - they are very fun! Grab your table when you walk in, and then order at the bar or the food counter. They give you a number and then bring your food to the table. You'll need to park on the street or in someone else's lot, but it's usually not a problem. Go for the environment and drinks, but skip the food. read more

I admit, I only ate here because the Water St. Oyster Bar was jammed. I couldn't even get a seat at the bar on a Saturday night. There was plenty of seating at the Executive Surf club. I sat at the bar and just ordered a burger, fries, and a couple of beers. The food was actually better than I expected. Fries were hot and crisp, and the hamburger was very good. So high marks for the food. But don't think for a second that the people behind the bar understand that they are in the hospitality business. They're not overtly surly, just totally unresponsive. A smile or words of welcome are simply not in their vocabulary. I'm sure they'd say they're busy, and they do have to handle drink orders from the restaurant. But I was one of only three people having dinner at the bar, so I don't buy it. It's obvious that no one has explained to them that part of their job is to make people feel welcome. Executive surf club is a staple for the corpus area. They've had live music both times we've gone. The vibes are the man draw here. The food we've had is pretty standard bar food- I haven't had anything there that's blown me away but it's pretty good. You can order ahead online if it's super busy. This place is a local institution for Corpus. My friend and her partner took me here for lunch. The burgers are amazing and the beer selection was great! It was kind of a mad house cause it was a weekend and theyre pretty popular. I like the surfer ambience and they had live music on the outdoor stage! Definitely recommend and want to return! I always get the fish and chips when I come here. They recently didn't renovation on the front bar and back bar and it is really nice and the men's bathroom is located outside where the outside bar used to be. It is so nice. Service: you order at the counter and they bring the food out. Even though it was busy it was pretty quick. Food: my bacon cheeseburger was pretty standard. I enjoyed it, it satisfied me, but nothing extraordinary there. We also had the fish tacos and the poppers, which are very cheesy and have some spicy serrano peppers in them. All pretty good! Executive Surf Club (ESC) is an old school bar / live music venue / American food restaurant that has been around since the 80's I believe. It exemplifies Corpus' vibrant and historic "surfing" culture, although the city is less well known for that now. According to their website: "Located on popular Chaparral Street in Corpus Christi Texas the Executive Surf Club is the perfect spot to grab a casual meal, listen to the best in live local music, or simply enjoy the Coast!" As someone who has lived here twice over the last decade or so, I can attest to this statement. In fact, the first time I lived here I worked right across the street. ESC is part of the "Water St. Market" family of restaurants and venues, and sits snuggly in a cozy downtown "market" most visitors and every resident will recognize. It's very inviting, very casual, very interesting. The food is good; above average for American "bar food". The atmosphere and crowd is a great representation of peak South Texas culture, which is why it's such a magnet to visitors during "tourist season". I suppose the thing I enjoy most about the place is its management and staff. Let me explain: like many restaurants of this caliber, it's a revolving door for local youth and such finding their way through life, etc. However, unlike other nearby restaurants (I won't name names), they consistently maintain great service standards. Always friendly, always "South Texas casual" professional. Many visitors to the city invariably end up downtown. It's the nature of visiting new or infrequently visited places. If that should be you, and you are looking for a casual place for a drink, a break, or good meal that fits the bill as I have described, consider stopping by. They were advertising a crawfish poboy yesterday. What they didn't say is that the crawfish were spoiled. I am from Lafayette, Louisiana, and I know crawfish. This was putrid, a fried crawfish tail poboy that was spoiled. They offer free sides as long as you buy a meal combo, we had fried pickles, chips and Cáso. The waitress failed to find us by her own admission; she forgot we were outside. At the end of the month, they will have oysters on special, or an. Ioyster festival, i would not recommend oysters from this place after the bad crawfish, oysters aren't nothing to play with. The outdoor tables could use a bit more light read more

It honestly felt unnecessary and judgmental. We were relaxed, respectful, and ready to have a good time, but the staff made us feel unwelcome for no real reason. For decades now, if I'm in Corpus, I'm stopping in here for a meal. The ambience is great and the food is still pretty good. The burgers are always a safe bet and the staff is still as friendly as ever. You can go anywhere for a meal, but this is a chill spot to spend time and enjoy the scene.
