Wow all of the 5 star reviews for this place, the food is ok, but not 5 star, my michelada was a watered down (Because of all the ice in it) just pour a good cold beer instead. The place on the outside is nothing to talk about. It gets packed good luck finding a spot. The place is so small it's ridiculous cramped inside. The food is ok, Bucaneros in San Antonio is way better. My fish chicharrón was bland and they give thousand island dressing for it? It's chicharrón style every other place I have gone gives you guacamole, I had to order it seperately. My cocktail Vuelve ala Vida (The sauce was a watered down unflavored mess) the Shrimp were really fresh, but the cocktail sauce was horrible. The kiddos had Alfredo shrimp pasta they said it was good, the wife said her dish was OK some pulpo fish ala diabla. The small appetizer tostadas with 2 tiny salsas is meh, but the ceviche was tasteless. (If you can find a Peruvian restaurant order ceviche there) you eyes and mouth will be opened. Service was fast, and personally, they do this to move people out quick, because it's a very small place, and the quality of food suffers. For me it's a SOLID 3
They gave us free salsas with what I think is fish ceviche which was solid. The orange sauce was super good and had a lot of umami. It tastes kind of like a spicy Vietnamese shrimp paste sauce. The fried fish plate is really great. Very fresh fish but they didn't tell us we could get a sauce on the side (my lack of reading also influenced that though). The fries on the plate are good and the garlic bread was great. We also got the spicy special ceviche which had shrimp and oysters. I wasn't the biggest fan of the oysters because they were in an unfamiliar sauce (very tamarind forward), but my mom really enjoyed it. The seasoning on the shrimp is pretty solid and fresh tasting. Service is very nice, most Spanish speaking but very friendly. Maybe a tad bit slow considering we were the only party there for a while but not bad.
Food is really good worth the wait. They are busy but fast. My wife loves the shrimp cocktail. Mostly seafood with some meat plates . Highly recommend you try
Everything here is super fresh! They have so many different seafood options from ceviche, fried fish, fish tacos, and more. The prices are also great! All tables get a basket of corn tostadas with salsa and a fish ceviche when you sit down. I always order a whole fish. I have had both their whole snapper and tilapia and both are super good! You can pick the sauce that comes with. I have had both garlic butter and nayarit. The plate comes with salad, garlic bread, rice, and fries. So much food and great for sharing! I've also tried the seafood paella which is not like the Spanish style paella. This is more loose and not crispy but it is full of flavor! They also give a generous serving of mixed seafood. Great place if you love a good drink because they have a big menu of cocktails and beer. Location is right at the corner of Weber and SPID.
Good service soon as we walked in and the mariscos were bombaaaaa! Don't forget the micheladas too!!!
The waitress was kind and attentive, food was good, ambiance is ok the restaurant is on the smaller side and can get packed so you can hear other's conversations pretty loudly but honestly the food made up for that for me. I had the red snapper which was served with rice, fries, salad, and a little piece of bread. The salad had cranberries and strawberries that I felt actually went really well with the fish. And I wish I had more salad and no fries.
Everything was delicious! The service from our server was wonderful. We usually ask for recommendations, but the menu had pictures and honestly everything looked appetizing. We started with the oysters and shrimp empanadas & both were amazing! The empanadas were perfectly cooked with just the right balance of crisp and softness. The flavor was great, and the sauce that came with them was absolute perfection. The oysters had great flavor too. Personally, I can't do large oysters, so I didn't finish them, but they were still very good. We shared the paella, and it was plenty for two. It was my first time trying paella, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but the flavor and taste were definitely on point! The ambiance was nice, it was packed when we arrived, which is always a good sign. They don't have a host, so you just grab any open table. The cashier was young, so don't expect much in terms of customer service (lol), but honestly, it didn't matter because everything else was great. I also had a michelada, and it was on point! Next time, I'm definitely trying the margarita in the tequila bottle! Overall, great food, great vibes, & I can't wait to come back!
Coastal seafood bringing the "taste of Nayarit," a region on the Western side of Mexico (between Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta) to Corpus Christi. Business is booming and with good reason - servers are buzzing with the friendliest welcomes, a troubadour singing traditional songs over dinner, and large crunchy corn chips with ceviche served upon seating. The menu is huge and varied with photos for enticing options like cocteles (marinated shrimp & fish cocktail), spicy Camarones Zarandeados, and a Pina Rellena (pineapple stuffed with seafood). I tried the Filete de Pescado Relleno - a giant portion of fish smothered in beautiful shrimp, mushrooms, vegetables, and white cheese. It's about as indulgent as fish can get, but also delicious and comforting. I liked mine with their green salsa - bursting with citrus and jalapeño, an exciting topper to every dish! Serving the sweet tooth, their house horchata is icy cool, rich with vanilla and cinnamon, amazingly balanced. A lovely experience all around, almost as good as vacation south of the border.
We haven't had seafood in a while so we wanted to try this new place out. We noticed that they had good reviews so we decided to try it out. The business was easy to find since it was on the side of SPID, and once we walked in we were quickly greeted and seated. Once seated the server gave us fish ceviche and tostadas with salsa's. It was delicious and I never seen a place that had that. For our main dishes, I ordered the Chipotle Chicken, and my sister got the Baja Fish Tacos, and my girlfriend ordered the Felete De Pescado Relleno. Everything tasted great and the price was decent! Overall everything was good and I will probably come back to try other options.
I ordered the Paella plate out of the menu. As you can tell from the left over that it was okay. The plate came with a lot of onions. Never had a paella with so much onions. The food wasn't that bad but it wasn't the greatest either. Price for the place was decent and affordable. Service was good and server was attentive to our needs. Enough space to accommodate various large parties.
What a weird surprise. I grew up in Corpus Christi, about three miles from Mariscos Altamar. Back then, it was a Whatab*rger. Today, it is home to a very cool Mexican seafood shop, where you are seated with a serving of free ceviche! Is it great? Not really. But it is solid. The food was so very tasty. The paella was a surprise. Rich in flavor and generously served with crab, clams, and shrimp. It was delightful. It had a deep umami flavor. We also ordered the mixed fajitas which was probably a pound of chicken and beef. The only complaint is that the tortillas were store bought and flavorless. The fish a la plancha was very good, but not sure if it was as advertised. Still, it was perfectly seasoned and tender. The margaritas were $6.50 (June2024) and worth twice that.

Great seafood with affordable prices (for this type of food). The atmosphere could be better in the future since the restaurant is small they are located inside an old Whataburger establishment. My only complaint is charges for a to go plate.
I visited on a Sunday for lunch and it was a very nice experience. I arrived and was seated right away, the dining area is moderate size, orderly and clean. The waitress arrived and took my order, their margaritas are large and strong. They give you complimentary chips and fish ceviche with salsas, which were excellent. The green salsa had quite a kick. I then went with the Fried Red Snapper, which came with fries, rice, and a salad. It was very tasty and fresh. The service was very good, the waitress stopped by often and was very friendly. The prices were outstanding. Overall, a great place for seafood. read more
What a place... the outside of the building is nothing to speakof but the inside is nice, clean and the food is really good. We ate there, vs. to-go, they have a fairly large seating area. They also seemed like they are doing a lot of to-go orders. We were seated and they brought out ceviche and fried tortia chips and crackers. It was delicious and had a little spice with a really nice fresh taste. The two salsa's were also very good, one was on the milder side and one was hot. My wife had the Camarones Zarandeados (Grilled shrimp with home sauce). It comes with several shrimp and rice. It is marked mild, my wife thought it was a bit spicy but loved it and eat it all. I had the Huachinago Al Gusto (Red Snapper natural) with Diabla sauce. It comes with rice, a piece of bread and a salad. The picture shows it with fries but I didn't get any. I was okay with that as it was very filling and delicious! A musician came in and played some music on his guitar and sang, that added to the entire experience. If I lived here I'd be visiting here a lot. read more

This spot is fairly new in town, and I decided to check it out while in Corpus Christi for work and craving some good seafood. The ambiance is great -- it has that classic Hispanic/Mexican restaurant vibe with comfortable seating and good music that makes you want to stay awhile. The food was stellar. I ordered the red snapper, which came as a whole filet, and it was fried to absolute perfection. The garlic butter sauce they serve with it is incredible and really ties the whole plate together. The dish also comes with rice, a side salad, garlic bread, and french fries -- definitely a hearty, filling meal for the price. I'll absolutely be back to try more of their seafood options. It's one of the few Mexican spots in the area that specializes in Mexican-style seafood, and they do it very well, while also offering great and welcoming service. Mariscos Altamar is a new taqueria new to Corpus. But what makes them special is what kind of taqueria they are, an "Ostioneria" (literally Spanish for "sea food restaurant"). So you may be wondering what makes that special. Well, if you are familiar with the taqueria foodscapes of other bigger Texas cities (Houston, for example), you would be familiar with this type of restaurant. There are many. However, Corpus does not have very many Ostionerias, so that's what makes their arrival very special indeed. And Mariscos Altamar is an example of a high quality Mexican sea food restaurant. I have been here numerous times since recently opening, and have yet to be disappointed. Great food, plentiful options, and good prices. What's not to love? I'll also add that so far I have experienced nothing but great service. Super nice waitstaff, and the cashier (who I believe to also be the owner) is so humble and thankful of the patronage. One thing worth noting is its location. Its both good and bad in that it is right off of a high traffic area of Weber just before the intersection of SPID. Its good because that ensures they receive a fair amount of business, but bad because the parking lot can be hard to get in and out of at high traffic times of day. Anyway, I have already put them in my current frequent rotation for hearty sea food dinners. If you happen to be in the area and are craving Mexican sea food, I would highly recommend you check them out. read more

This is hands down the most delicious and authentic mariscos restaurant I've been to in years! The service was amazing and very attentive. The food is easily 5 stars with an extra bonus for the incredible flavors. The restaurant was full, for obvious reasons! I wish we had a place like this back home because it's a reason I would come back to Corpus Christi just to eat here. Monica, our waitress, was hands down the most attentive and knowledgeable server I've ever had. Highly recommend! The ambiance was clean and friendly. read more
My new favorite restaurant in Corpus Christi for fresh seafood! Their ceviche is so good I would literally drive from Austin to here just for it. My family ate here twice during our recent trip and we can't get enough of it! The service was fast and very accommodating. The ambiance is busy and I would say it's a bit small for how amazing their food is. At times there can be a bit of a wait. We did not end up waiting at all for both times we went. They got us a table right away! I highly recommend going here if you're in the Corpus Christi area. read more

Delighted that we found this gem of a restaurant. For a coastal city, you'd think that we'd have more good seafood around. This place stands out from the rest. Authentic flavors of the Mexican state of Nayarit shine through. This small, humble establishment packs a punch with their assortment of seafood delights. We were greeted by the waitress with a friendly smile and some complimentary fresh ceviche with tostadas and crackers. Off to a great start already. I was surprised at their colorful, quite extensive menu. So much I wanted to try but I opted for the filete de pescado relleno which is fish fillet with shrimp, octopus, surimi, mushrooms, cilantro, bell pepper. YUM! Came out piping hot and packed with all the fresh sea meats as promised. Squeeze of lemon on top and chefs kiss. It was an irresistible, comforting meal. Served with rice and bread to sop up all of the creamy saucy cheesy goodness and a simple refreshing salad. Washed it down with a cantarito and wow I was in a state of bliss wishing I could run it back lol. My boyfriend ordered the camarones al gusto in diabla sauce and he enjoyed his meal as well. We also ordered the calamares (calamari) for an appetizer. Good but not great and would probably skip this next time and opt for something else as they appear to be in no shortage of delicious options. Ordered a cocktail to go. Would recommend the vuelva a la vida with shrimp, octopus, oyster, abalone and surimi. Excellent. Judging by the quality of their food I believe Mariscos Altamar is here to stay as a staple in the Corpus Christi food scene. The shell of an old whataburger brought back to life by good food and good people. Can't wait to come back and try more of the dishes. read more

Great food. Friendly and fast service. Place is very small, so it can be crowded. Recommend to go at off-peak hours to get good parking space and table/seating. They have a nice variety of dishes to choose from, for individual as well as bigger plates to share. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend. read more

So we made it here based on reviews. There was a wait as they were busy. We got seated promptly. The service was good, really like the cerviche they bring you with chips. Very nice. The place is small and quite noisy. Cramped location for the people coming in. The food was overall good. Tables were close to each other hard to hear your own table talking. I ordered the fish which was a whole fish fried topped with shrimp. It had way too many fish bones. Husband had fish tacos he says they were good. I could do without the heads on the shrimp. Ordered extra cerviche. Quite good. read more

First time here and man we loved it. Great music and the waitstaff so nice too. The food however was truly a great taste of seafood. I had the paella Del Mar so good and husband had octopus Diablo also good. I had a margarita as well. I can't say enough about this place. We will be back for sure. read more
