I'll start with the positive. The catfish was amazing, but that's all I can say that was good. Fried calamari and fried mushrooms were very bland, the french fries were awful, they tasted freezer burnt. My daughter's Alfredo pasta came out cold and was also very bland, tasted almost like it came out of a jar from the supermarket. The jalapeño hush puppies were very under cooked. The food just was not great at all! The service was lackluster at best, I get they were busy, but that's doesn't give the server the right to completely ignore our table. They had live music and it was way too loud, so loud the server couldn't even hear what I was ordering. This was our first time in Corpus Christi, and we will probably never visit this establishment when we come back. read more

First timers in Corpus Christi we were unsure what to expect. We had this establishment recommended by uber drivers twice and being as our AirBnB was right by it we simply had to try it. When first walking in you are greeted by a mixture of dive bar and pirate mixture. A very fun welcome if I do say so myself. It is nothing short of something you have to have an open mind to appreciate. The atmosphere was amazing however, we were also greeted with live music! We started our meal with the calamari, a nice mix of rings and legs! The marinara was a very good fit not too sweet and not too acidic (especially with the lemon). We also decided to do the margarita flight. LtoR (strawberry, cherry, raspberry, curuçao) they were very delicious but drinker beware as they are strong. Sharing this with someone else is ideal unless you wish to not remember your experience here! Moving to the main dish, I got the market fish (trout) and had it blackened (of course) I am a connoisseur of coleslaw so I had to try it and the potato salad sounded like a good pair. The fish was delicious, well seasoned, and perfectly blackened. The lemon was just enough to make it pop. I still have no idea what the spicy sauce that it came with is but it knocked my socks off. The coleslaw was average overall but a good pair with the fish. The potato salad was fantastic however, is is mustardy but has a beautiful creamy texture with an addicting sweet yellow mustard taste that leaves you wanting more. Overall I give Blackbeards 5 . Some friends had indicated that this was a place they'd like to go as we were making our way home from a weekend conference in Corpus Christi. I was part of a carpool, so I was going to be going regardless. Like my wife, I kind of had low expectations of the place, but we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is a bit weird-- they're leaning into a bit of a pirate vibe, but its a very kitschy attempt. In a sense, it builds a "hole in the wall" type of atmosphere that works for some people, but doesn't really inspire much confidence for a seafood restaurant when you first walk in. Maybe that's why it was empty when we came by? Everyone ordered something different and we all seemed happy with what we received. It's really one of those places where nothing on the menu is going to be the "best you've ever had" but everything on the menu is good. I opted for the coconut shrimp basket with potato salad while my wife went with the fried fish basket with french fries. The portions were huge for the price, and very filling. The waitress disappeared at two different points, including when we needed the check, which was a bit disappointing. I had such low expectations going here, that I was pleasantly surprised by the end of the meal. Some friends were raving, but I wasn't sure, because they thought some place in Refugio was good - spoiler it was not. Plus it was seafood in Corpus, where things are great or terrible. Oh my goodness y'all this place was amazing. It's way too much freaking food. They had good salads, soup, fried food, not fried food. My husband and I ordered things so we could share with each other. The prices were amazing, which made me worry cause everything costs an arm and a leg for basic food. No, the prices here were reasonable and the food was great. Our waiter was able to handle a large group and I think the only thing people complained about was that there was a gratuity. I think gratuity aside and the old timey look inside, this place is a good pit stop for easy quick seafood. If I needed a good pit stop, this is it. We love to find restaurants that are off the beaten trail. Blackbeard's should have a trail right to it. The fun atmosphere and location off North Beach adds a fun experience. The staff were fabulous and every recommendation that our wonderful waitress suggested was spot on. We had a mix of fish tacos, fried fish, and on the recommendation, I had the blackened catfish. It's not on the beach nor can you see the water. It's a dive bar. It looks like a pirate themed Mexican restaurant or refurbished Denny's. I'm sure it's cool when there's live music and the like, but this is a dark and dank dive bar. I didn't eat here so no comment on the food but the atmosphere left more to be desired. From the purple exterior to the low ceilings to the vintage 80s (the real 80s, not what Gen Z thinks it is) vibe, we were not disappointed. Tasha is an amazing server. She helped us navigate the substantial drink menu and find the frozen margaritas! We tarted with a mango and a raspberry and ordered the seafood queso. The queso may have been the best of everything we ordered - high praise indeed. It's a regular, thick queso with plenty of crab and shrimp added, and it comes with sturdy chips. I got the Baja fish tacos and my wife ordered the shrimp poboy. The tacos - I ordered them blackened, and I'm glad I did. The pieces of fish were HUGE! Everything was fresh, and the fish was perfectly cooked. The poboy not only came with an abundance of shrimp, but the also put a little skull and crossbones brand on top of the bun. Cute! We later ordered a flight of margaritas (for dessert, let's say). You can do a whole lot worse for fresh seafood. The food was very oily. They advertised a free meal for your birthday with an ID. It was our son's 9th birthday and he just wanted a kids meal even though he can demolish adult meal. Blackbeard's has a fairly extensive menu of choices but I just ordered the fried shrimp as I so often do when eating out. Food was very good and waitress was always on the ball if I needed anything. I got the 2 combo basket with Shrimp & Fish fliet with potato salad for the side -$10.99 Plus an order of chips and salsa- $2.49. My daughter got the chicken strip basket with upgrade of onion rings (3.99$) - 9.99$ us being new to Texas we were unsure of the container that came with the chicken strips and turned out in Texas most strips are served with a gravy (and it was actually good). Over all the food was good. But lacking ANY SALT- The nice warm chips had no salt , the onion rings had no salt - new to me. The potato salad is most likely store bought and I wasn't entirely fond of it. Potatoes were way too hard. Ray did keep the refills coming. The rest of my family (too much to mention) said the same for the seasoning. NO SALT - so things tasted a little bland. As soon as we sat down it really began to fill up so I'm assuming it's a very popular place on North Shore. I'll be willing to try it again but share with someone! The food was good! I ordered onion rings as an appetizer and they were breaded really well. I got chicken alfredo for my dinner and it came with garlic bread. The pasta was delicious but the garlic bread tasted fruity for some reason. My mom ordered shrimp and it was way too much breading. The popcorn shrimp were large with a perfect amount of breading, though a touch bland. The bad: The fried shrimp were overbreaded, too thin and bland. The charro beans were bland with just a pepper taste. The fries were bland and underdone. So in conclusion, you should definitely go here, but avoid the fried options.
