After touring the Lexington for several hours with my son, I was pretty worn out and didn't want to face driving back to Port Aransas for a while. We needed lunch anyway, so we stopped in at Blackbeards. I would describe this place as a seafood dive bar. It has an extensive menu with great choices for anyone looking for a certain kind of seafood. I was looking for fried shrimp. My son was looking for fried oysters. Each of them were available with several options. I got a plate that had three fried shrimp, three coconut shrimp, and three fried oysters. Had I known how huge the shrimp would be, I would have left off the oysters. I was really stuffed after eating all of that. Everything was really good, but the coconut shrimp dipped in the accompanying sweet lemon butter sauce were AMAZING. My son had the fried oyster plate. They were his first, and he was disappointed. He really liked them, but he was hoping they would taste more like fresh oysters on the half shell. I guess I should have prepared him for the total transformation. Food was good - my garlic bread tasted like it might of had freezer burn or just gave a taste that you could tell it's been frozen. I'm not against frozen bread just would have preferred not having that taste. Everything else was good, my four year old enjoyed his tilapia! Onion rings were good. This pirate themed bar and restaurant located not too far from hotels and gift shops. It's a very casual atmosphere which offers plenty of mixed drink promotions plus canned or bottled beers, but nothing on draft. The food is good and the mahi-mahi is recommended. The coleslaw was good and the beans were okay. The server took good care to make sure everything was all right and checked on the table multiple times. Second time around and they did not disappoint. Our last visit was 26 years ago. I ordered the fish tacos. The sauce compliments the filets very well. Hubby ordered the fried catfish. All dishes were cooked very well and very tasty too! Our waitress was super sweet and knew the menu very well. She was Johnny on the spot, always coming around every three or four minutes, just to check on us. The ambience is second to none. You just have to see it to believe it. read more

Beer is very reasonably priced compared to other places near my home in the Houston area. I had the seared tuna appetizer which I found to be very tasty. Some friends had indicated that this was a place they'd like to go as we were making our way home from a weekend conference in Corpus Christi. I was part of a carpool, so I was going to be going regardless. Like my wife, I kind of had low expectations of the place, but we were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is a bit weird-- they're leaning into a bit of a pirate vibe, but its a very kitschy attempt. In a sense, it builds a "hole in the wall" type of atmosphere that works for some people, but doesn't really inspire much confidence for a seafood restaurant when you first walk in. Maybe that's why it was empty when we came by? Everyone ordered something different and we all seemed happy with what we received. It's really one of those places where nothing on the menu is going to be the "best you've ever had" but everything on the menu is good. I opted for the coconut shrimp basket with potato salad while my wife went with the fried fish basket with french fries. The portions were huge for the price, and very filling. The waitress disappeared at two different points, including when we needed the check, which was a bit disappointing. Food was amazing, we drive from San Antonio to come and eat here however today was not a great experience. The server seemed new, didn't have answers to our questions and wouldn't ask a manager. He was a young guy. We were the only table he had to wait on before the larger tables came in. Our food wouldn't come out, nothing complicated, we ordered pasta, but tables being seated 20 minutes after us were getting their food first. In total we waited over an hour for our food mind you the restaurant was almost empty. Very disappointed with our visit like I said we drove from San Antonio for this meal and then our food was wrong. We just ate and left thats how upset we were we didn't even bother correcting the server I was not waiting an additional hour to get our food fixed. A table of 2 adults and 2 children waiting over an hour in an almost empty restaurant is pretty crazy. read more

The chicken tortilla soup was a little spicy but overall, the price and food were excellent. I would say that if you're in a hurry, this might not be your spot. But I wanted the experience. I had such low expectations going here, that I was pleasantly surprised by the end of the meal. Some friends were raving, but I wasn't sure, because they thought some place in Refugio was good - spoiler it was not. Plus it was seafood in Corpus, where things are great or terrible. Oh my goodness y'all this place was amazing. It's way too much freaking food. They had good salads, soup, fried food, not fried food. My husband and I ordered things so we could share with each other. The prices were amazing, which made me worry cause everything costs an arm and a leg for basic food. No, the prices here were reasonable and the food was great. Our waiter was able to handle a large group and I think the only thing people complained about was that there was a gratuity. I think gratuity aside and the old timey look inside, this place is a good pit stop for easy quick seafood. If I needed a good pit stop, this is it. First timers in Corpus Christi we were unsure what to expect. We had this establishment recommended by uber drivers twice and being as our AirBnB was right by it we simply had to try it. When first walking in you are greeted by a mixture of dive bar and pirate mixture. A very fun welcome if I do say so myself. It is nothing short of something you have to have an open mind to appreciate. The atmosphere was amazing however, we were also greeted with live music! We started our meal with the calamari, a nice mix of rings and legs! The marinara was a very good fit not too sweet and not too acidic (especially with the lemon). We also decided to do the margarita flight. LtoR (strawberry, cherry, raspberry, curuçao) they were very delicious but drinker beware as they are strong. Sharing this with someone else is ideal unless you wish to not remember your experience here! Moving to the main dish, I got the market fish (trout) and had it blackened (of course) I am a connoisseur of coleslaw so I had to try it and the potato salad sounded like a good pair. The fish was delicious, well seasoned, and perfectly blackened. The lemon was just enough to make it pop. I still have no idea what the spicy sauce that it came with is but it knocked my socks off. The coleslaw was average overall but a good pair with the fish. The potato salad was fantastic however, is is mustardy but has a beautiful creamy texture with an addicting sweet yellow mustard taste that leaves you wanting more. Overall I give Blackbeards 5 . If you're looking for fried seafood on your trip-this is the place to go! We came to Blackbeards for lunch after our stop at the aquarium and were left stuffed and so happy!! The ambiance is super cool, event for kiddos. We ordered a combo basket of catfish and coconut shrimp that was to die for! Great potato salad, great fish tacos, and the delicious cocktail sauce. It was fresh, garlicky, and a little spice to it. Their calamari and sauce was also super fresh and a great little snack. Overall we are super satisfied. read more

I'll start with the positive. The catfish was amazing, but that's all I can say that was good. Fried calamari and fried mushrooms were very bland, the french fries were awful, they tasted freezer burnt. My daughter's Alfredo pasta came out cold and was also very bland, tasted almost like it came out of a jar from the supermarket. The jalapeño hush puppies were very under cooked. The food just was not great at all! The service was lackluster at best, I get they were busy, but that's doesn't give the server the right to completely ignore our table. They had live music and it was way too loud, so loud the server couldn't even hear what I was ordering. This was our first time in Corpus Christi, and we will probably never visit this establishment when we come back. read more

It's not on the beach nor can you see the water. It's a dive bar. It looks like a pirate themed Mexican restaurant or refurbished Denny's. I'm sure it's cool when there's live music and the like, but this is a dark and dank dive bar. I didn't eat here so no comment on the food but the atmosphere left more to be desired. She helped us navigate the substantial drink menu and find the frozen margaritas! We tarted with a mango and a raspberry and ordered the seafood queso. The queso may have been the best of everything we ordered - high praise indeed. It's a regular, thick queso with plenty of crab and shrimp added, and it comes with sturdy chips. I got the Baja fish tacos and my wife ordered the shrimp poboy. The tacos - I ordered them blackened, and I'm glad I did. The pieces of fish were HUGE! Everything was fresh, and the fish was perfectly cooked. The poboy not only came with an abundance of shrimp, but the also put a little skull and crossbones brand on top of the bun. Cute! We later ordered a flight of margaritas (for dessert, let's say). You can do a whole lot worse for fresh seafood.
