Barbacoa plate

So eat here but you will get extra protein in your food. I ordered barbacoa so did other members of my party and a huge cooked up roach was in the food. I was trying to keep things discreet not to upset the rest of the group. They apologized and offered another meal but honestly why would I eat something else there? They ended up charging me the wrong ticket and said they would correct it but never did. Said they would call me the next day with corrections and again never did. So we paid for plates with roach parts.. Have been sick to my stomach every time I try to eat Barbados. Took the picture with the hopes it wasn't but it was

It has been a minute since I've been in the southwest and able to have some Mexican food. My coworker suggested we stop and grab a bite at this spot. The interior is very inviting with lots of Frida Kahlo art. It does not look like they have a bar so we had soda and water options. I went with the tacos Al carbon. It comes with a delicious cheese sauce over it. It was very tasty and reasonably priced for downtown. Our server was quick to take our order and get our food to us. A charming spot to have a bite to eat.

Great food, prices, and service. Ate here three times while at a work conference and do not regret it at all. Specifically, I love the migas and chorizo breakfast plates with a pancake on the side. The beans were some of the best I've ever had. The decor in the restaurant is very vibrant and inviting.

Skillet!!

Food Service Ambiance All great! And their Horchata is delicious! We tried the skillet and the breakfast bowl. The skillet had a good variety. Barbados, refried, beans, eggs, and hash brown. All the items were yum. If you want crispy hash browns, I'd ask. The bowl was fresh and lite.

Barbacoa skillet is beyond good! Literally the best in Corpus Christi!

The best Barbacoa in Corpus. I would say order the skillet and if you are not stuffed and happy then let me know. The service felt like home and friends. It was a beautiful restaurant with great paintings and history.

Enchilada platter, chips and salsa!

I loved this place! I ordered the Enchilada platter with 2 chicken and 1 beef, and the verde topping option. They delivered with a green and red hot sauce; both were amazing. If you like a little kick, the green sauce is the way to go! Very friendly staff and atmosphere. I will definitely refer work friends and visit here again when I am in town.

Sizzling skillet was delicious!

Amazing authentic food! Would recommend to any local or visitor. Service was very attentive and location was cleaned and colorful in true Frida fashion. Loved both the service and food will definitely be back if I'm in town again. May actually come back before we leave!

As a vegan, that made me excited because actual Mexican food usually has less cheese and can be made vegan. The business is quaint. There was a friendly hostess to welcome us in and our server was very hospitable. We ordered the chile relleno without cheese, zucchini in pasilla pepper sauce, and mole verde off the vegetarian options on the menu. We also enjoyed guacamole and chips. Our server was happy to accommodate our vegan modifications and it was really easy to communicate with him. The flavors are just WOW! Hands down the best guacamole of my life. The sauces are vibrant and rich. Everything tasted so fresh. And the prices for this quality of food cannot be beat. My husband and I literally licked sauce off the plates to make sure we did not miss one ounce of that authentic Mexican flavor. This place is top of our list of businesses to visit next time we are in town visiting family. We had an incredible experience and cannot wait to continue to explore the vegetarian menu options.

I'm not a professional food critic, but I do know seasoning, regional Mexican flavors, and what well‑prepared food should taste like -- and this just wasn't it for us. The restaurant didn't feel well-kept, and it appeared that only one server and one cook were working, plus we and another couple were the only ones there. We were served chips and salsa to start. The salsa, a taquera‑style orange sauce, was actually the best part of the meal. The chips, however, were extremely hard, not fresh, and definitely not warm. They looked house‑made, but whatever they were fried in made them almost inedible. I ordered the ribeye street tacos, and the steak was overcooked, had an odd taste, and wasn't enjoyable. I asked for extra cilantro and onions, which didn't happen, and the chimichurri they brought out was basically oil with a few seasonings floating in it. I almost complimented the Dr Pepper because it had a unique sweetness -- until I realized why. The red glass had visible staining on the inside. When I wiped the rim with my napkin, it came off dirty. They also don't offer straws, so whatever residue was in that glass is what you end up drinking. Between the food quality, the cleanliness concerns, and the overall condition of the restaurant, this was a no for us. How this place has earned such high mentions is honestly beyond me.

Butter Churn If…read moreyou're anywhere near Aransas Pass and you haven't eaten at Butter Churn, you're flat-out missing out. From the moment you walk in, you can feel it -- this isn't some corporate chain going through the motions. This place is dialed in. It is probably one of the most put-together restaurants I've ever had the privilege of visiting. Every detail feels intentional. Clean lines, modern touches, spotless floors, organized buffet, upbeat energy -- they hit every mark. The décor has personality without being overdone. It feels like a true family restaurant -- warm, authentic, and welcoming -- but with a level of polish most places never achieve. The service? Exceptional. Real smiles. Real hospitality. You're not just another table. You feel seen and taken care of. Now let's talk about the brisket. Unbelievable. I had to ask how they were doing it, and Mark was more than happy to walk me through his process. When brisket is smoked low and slow -- and they smoke theirs for 20 hours -- here's what happens: * The visible fat cap mostly renders down. * The intramuscular fat melts. * Collagen breaks down into gelatin. * The melted fat soaks deep into the meat fibers. So by the time it hits your plate? You don't see fat. You taste rendered fat and gelatin inside the meat. For $14 all-you-can-eat lunch, I kept waiting for the catch. There isn't one. I probably ate close to a pound and a half of brisket myself and still wanted more. Tender, perfectly seasoned, smoky without being overpowering -- the kind of brisket that makes you stop mid-bite and just nod your head because you know you found something special. You walk out wondering how they're not charging double. Everything about this place reflects pride -- pride in the food, pride in the service, pride in the entire experience. It's consistent. It's clean. It's efficient. And that kind of consistency is rare. This is only my second five-star rating ever. That's how serious I am about it. I apologize for not getting a picture of the brisket, I got too carried away with eating it. I live in Corpus Christi, and honestly, that's probably a good thing. If I lived any closer, I'd be there every single day. If you want authentic, high-quality food served by people who genuinely care about what they're doing -- Butter Churn is it. Five stars. No hesitation.

The fried chicken was dry, the steak was chewy, and after trying a mouthful of the least seasoned black eyed peas I've ever had, I gave up. The cobblers were edible, but not spectacular. Only vanilla ice cream worked but it was super icy and I'm assuming Mexican vanilla flavor as it has a cinnamon twist to it. We didn't find anything we were inclined to actually finish and the evening after we were all a little ill. It's obviously a local fav for some and specials apparently change daily so I will say Saturday, for us, was a bust.
