The Gold Fish has proven this long-held collective pessimism wrong. Originally a cocktail bar only, it has now expanded into a cocktail, beer and wine outdoor/indoor bar, which makes complete sense given the city's demographic demands. It was actually one of the first businesses I was most concerned with us losing permanently during the pandemic. And I am so glad they have stuck around! It is a modern cocktail bar at its core, which makes it very unique to this city. This is an obvious adoption of cocktail bar trends from other larger cities in Texas. It is very nice, with a wide array of adult beverage options for discriminating consumers to chose from. The atmosphere is perfect, and the bartenders and staff are top-notch and super nice (the attitude is refreshing compared to what one may be used to recieving from such establishments in larger cities). I usually only come here when I have company from out-of-town, as I do not go out for drinks very often. At my most recent visit, I had just experienced a personal tragedy that I only briefly alluded to our bartender when she asked how our day was going. The amount of sincere compassion we received was not expected at all. My only regret is that I did not get her name, or else I would have gladly included it in this review.

We had the Smash Burgers and Wings (hot and garlic parm). The burgers were excellent, large and juicy with several toppings available. The wings were ok, I would have preferred more sauce, but they were big and plentiful. The service was very good, the waitress stopped by frequently and other helpers kept up with drink refills. Overall, a very good place to grab a drink and a bite.

Terrible experience from start to finish…read more We came in after a long day of fishing and chose this place because it's right on the harbor--should have been the perfect, convenient stop. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. There were plenty of open tables, so we sat at one that had just been cleaned. We waited nearly 20 minutes while multiple waitresses walked by without ever acknowledging us. Eventually, one said she'd find someone to help us, and a young server finally came to take our drink order. It took about 10 minutes to get our drinks, another 15 minutes just to receive chips and queso, and over an hour for our food to arrive. We ordered simple items--nachos, quesadillas, and two burgers--nothing that should have taken that long. To make matters worse, they ran out of sweet tea, so we were stuck drinking water while waiting for more to be made. About 20 minutes later, we watched them take the tea container next door to finally prepare it. The food itself was just average bar food at best--not worth the wait. On top of that, there were people smoking inside the restaurant, which made the experience even more unpleasant. Despite being right on the harbor, they didn't even open the garage doors to let a breeze flow through, which would have made a big difference. To top it all off, when the bill came, it was incorrect. When splitting the checks, items were put on the wrong tickets, creating even more frustration at the end of an already disappointing meal. We will not be back.
