Stopped here for a breakfast taco. Take out only. Service was quick, the taco had a generous amount of eggs. The tortillas were fairly unique among the 100+ establishments I've tried in the region. They have a satisfying bite with a good amount of resistance and chew. I bought a bag of the tortillas and have been enjoying them all week. read more

The beef burrito, enchilada and chili relleno plate were awesome and fresh. Wifes 2 egg and bacon tacos were so huge she could only eat one. I ate the other later which was great. Sometimes it doesn't take more than once to know it's just not good. We came here solely based on the positive reviews on here. Yeah, there are very few, but they have a high rate. Our waiter was just unfriendly. Well, the main waiter. Several people ended up randomly waiting on us while they weren't all sitting at a booth talking. Granted, it definitely wasn't busy. So the food. One word sums up both of our meals: grease. I got the Tejano Plate: two cheese enchiladas, a serving of carne guisada, rice and beans. The enchiladas were just greasy. Pooling, standing grease. We just left and I'm legitimately afraid of what's going to happen to my body. And no, cheese enchiladas DON'T have to be greasy. I've eaten my weight in them over the 38 years of my life and nine times out of ten they aren't greasy. Besides the grease, the enchiladas just didn't have much of a taste at all. Now, the carne guisada was good. My husband got the pozole and said that they used shitty meat. He summed his meal up with two words: puro grasa His serving of fat was plentiful, and he couldn't really eat too much of it. We started with a tiny bowl of queso that they charged us $3.25 for. I knew the price upon ordering, but I didn't realize it was MAYBE two ounces. The restaurant itself was alright. Nothing special, but it was clean. There were two other customers that I could see. I hate HATE to leave such a low rating, but it is what it is. This was one of those meals that just felt like a waste, and not just financially. It makes me miss places that have better food options. We stopped by City Café and Bar (2390 Tx 361, Ingleside) on the way home from Church this morning as we drive right by it! Hadn't been there for sometime, but after some recent great reviews on this site about it, was anxious to give it another try.. so glad we did! I had the spinach burrito with queso, rice, beans and tortillas! Absolutely delicious.. everything was 100% fresh and homemade! Hubby had Cheese Enchiladas and he commented the cheese was homemade, as he can always tells the difference in taste and texture between homemade and canned, same with the Salsa! The last two times we were there w/Winter Texans, it just wasn't as good so don't know if they have a new Chef but whatever they're doing now more than made up for it this time! The prices are certainly less than what I'm used to..now that's a plus! read more

This was my first visit here so I really had no idea what to expect. My wife and son accompanied me as well. My son ordered the kid's enchilada plate with fries. My wife got the chicken fajitas and I got the enchiladas beef plate with fries as well. I wasn't feeling too rice and beans due to every Mexican restaurant serving the same sides. Our waitress seemed very nervous but she did fine. Except for one thing. When she brought out our food (mine and my son's plate first). She said very quietly that the plate was hot. I did not hear her due to deafness in my right ear and losing hearing in my left ear. My wife told me after the fact that I burned my left finger on the plate. But otherwise and typical place to eat. Food was good though. Except my cheese was mostly on the center enchilada. I would prefer it to be evenly distributed. My ocd I guess. read more

As good as ever. City Cafe continues to impress with great food and cocktails. We have been here over 20+ times now and it's always been quality (except the service which is well-intentioned, but spotty at best with some sometimes very clueless waiters). Our favorite go to local Mexican food restaurant. Family owned and worked, just like an Italian trattoria. Dad in the kitchen, mom and daughter working the tables. Flour tortillas that melt in your mouth and carnitas that are the best eaten around. Try the beef fajita enchiladas and the Chile relleno. Wish they made their own chalupa shells because they have great refrained beans. read more

We came for breakfast while we were driving through today. So glad we stopped. The hue is rancheros we're awesome. The potatoes were cooked perfectly. My husband had the huevos mexicanos and loved them as well. We will definitely come back if we are in the area. The employees were really nice too. read more

Service was good but the food was not. The queso was extremely watered down to the consistency of buttermilk. Beef enchiladas were bland and the meat was pink and had remnants of veins.
