Ay Maria is a new taqueria located off of Kostoryz between Gollihar and S. Staples. It's a welcome addition to this part of town and Corpus in general. I've been here several times since they opened, and honestly cannot find anything to complain about. Food is well above average and at a reasonable cost. The décor and atmosphere are festive, to say the least. And so far the service has been really good. One menu item I feel worth elaborating on is their Fajitas Tarascas. For those that don't know, Fajitas Tarascas is either a chicken or beef fajitas topped with a poblano cream sauce. Their version of this dish is one of the best I've had, with the sauce being almost perfect flavor and texture, IMO. Definitely worth giving this place a shot if you're in the area! read more

The food has always been good for breakfast but today we went for lunch. Service was fast and very nice which is a plus! This place reminds me of eating at my grandmas house. The only BIG downfall is the parking good god almighty it's horrible when it's busy you can't find a place because the little strip mall is so small! The interior is fun and colorful, the service is quick and friendly, and everything we've tried so far has been delicious. The salsa has a nice kick to it, and although I'd prefer homemade chips, it was still a nice way to start the meal. Placed an drive thru order and was given the wrong food. Once we brought it up to their attention it was not corrected unless we paid again. Here's the proof : this is not a sope it's a taco, on top of that we didn't ask for an asada sope. Review your cameras, we never asked for asada. Will not be coming back. Terrible customer service. Ay Maria is a notch above the average for sure. Most of the TexMex joints in CC taste like the next with little difference. The ingredients and recipes equal a better taste experience. It's just better in flavor, preparation and presentation. I had the Maria Combo and the only thing I'd suggest different would be to take just to back the spiciness a little in the chicken flautas. I said how can I trust she won't have an allergic reaction if remade since they had already said all fajita is premixed. The place is small and quite cozy. The food was decent. They did ask if I wanted homemade or packaged corn tortillas, so that was considerate I guess. My biggest gripe is that they nickel and dime you on some things I think customers shouldn't be charged extra for. Here are some examples: - $1.99 for every extra serving of chips...seriously? - To go cups are $0.50 - 3% percent processing fee for all credit card transactions. I'm not even sure if that is legal to do. We also had a long wait time for service. If you're looking to grab an adult beverage, this is not the place. They do not have a license to sell alcohol. Pity. This might be worth a try to come back in the distant future when things are corrected a bit more. read more

As repeat customers who have been VERY vocal about how much we love this restaurant, we are extremely disappointed and can't help but feel offended by our experience today. We decided to try their fideo but quickly realized the taste and smell was not for us. We didn't see our server for some time since she dropped off our food, so we set the bowls on the next table and enjoyed the taco salads that we also ordered. When the server returned, we pointed to our full bowls of soup we set at the next table and explained that we'd like to return them as we didn't like the flavor. Since English was not her first language, she thoughtfully carried out the conversation using Google Translate to make sure she fully understood our complaint. She went to speak to her supervisor and came back to report that they would not be removing the items from our bill as there had not been any previous complaints about the fideo. We then asked to speak directly to the manager. The manager came to the table, and I explained, using Google Translate that we didn't like the fideo and would like them taken off the bill, all while pointing at the full bowls still sitting at the next table. She responded in English that the soup was good because no one else has complained. We responded that WE are complaining, so why does that not count? She was stern and insistent that it didn't matter and we must pay. Then she suggested that we take the bowls to-go! We declined, pointing out AGAIN that we didn't like the soup. We then met her at the cash register, where she asked us "is it all together or separate?" Then she rang us up for the not-so-cheap soups. read more

Nice restaurant on the corner of a new shopping center. Decorated in bright colors with pretty murals on the walls and matching furniture and tableware, our party of four adults was impressed! Very clean, service was excellent. Very extensive menu with breakfasts served all day. We had a fajita combo plate, nachos, San Antonio plate and Mexican combo. We also ordered the Mexican handmade guacamole to share. Food was very good with large portions and the Mexican guac was chunky with lots of cilantro. The salsa was fiery too. They have applied for a liquor license. Total for four entrees, guacamole and four teas was 94.81 including 20% tip. We will be back! read more

My wife myself and a friend visited AY MARIA Restaurant for the first time on Sunday Feb 1st we wanted to try a new restaurant close to home. The restaurant was very busy which we took it as a good sign. We sat in a corner booth for about 15mins before a waitress acknowledged us. She said sorry didn't see you all sitting there. She took down our drink and food order 2 large menudo's. 1 caldo de rez. In the meantime we ate chips and salsa. Well after 3 more orders of chips and salsa in which we had to pay for in the end. Regardless of the super long wait. Finally Our food came to us. our Menudo was Luke warm my wife's caldo had no meat all grissel. She had them take back and ordered a caldo con pollo. The service was slow all the waitresses walked around like a chickens with out a head. They were overwhelmed that day. The food had a good flavor but I don't think I can wait another 40mins to get served . Maybe on a slow day the service might be better. For now I'm undecided about comming back. read more
