The restaurant has good breakfast but they go overboard adding a sur charge for the cost of eggs if you can't afford the cost of eggs it's not the customer fault so don't add a sur charge on top of the breakfast the customer already paid for it's not fair to the customer the customer does not own the restaurant, there for it's not their fault the egg prices are sky hi...you don't give a discount on the breakfast so don't rip off the customer.... read more

This is one that can easily be missed but if you pay attention, you will notice a parking lot full of cars. This is for good reason. Almost all of the cars are there because the people in them are eating at this establishment. The restaurant it's actually decently spaced and follow strict social distancing rules and regulations. The staff were so incredibly humble and it was like going into a relatives home. They have a large menu which features breakfast and dinner options. I ordered their Spinach and Eggs fish. This fish came with 2 sides of 5 steamed then grilled asparagus's with just a touch of salt, grilled potatoes that were seasoned with traditional Mexican spices and were slightly crunchy but browned a little on the bottom. The eggs were scrambled with the spinach mixed in and a touch of mushrooms scattered throughout every bit. They pair well with the two warm tortillas that come with the dish. (All tortillas are homemade). Ask for salsa rojo. It should come in a small bowl and will be warm and full of veggies. read more

We visited this restaurant on a windy Friday night, hoping to avoid crowds at other places. It was barely occupied, only a few tables had customers. We were greeted and asked to sit wherever we wanted. Our waitress took our drink orders and we started reviewing the gigantic menu. They serve all the regular Mexican favorites plus a lot of seafood, salads and breakfast all day. We chose shrimp quesadillas, cheese enchiladas and tacos al carbon. The food was ok but barely warm; the cheese enchiladas suffered from too much tortilla (flour?) and not nearly enough cheese with a strange gloppy chile sauce. The shrimp quesadillas were bland and needed hot sauce for seasoning. The tacos were fine, served with a nice queso sauce. Service was good but English is not the first language here, so bring your best Spanish! They do not serve booze. Total for three plates and three sodas was $36.57 including tip. read more

Every other morning, it seems like, i call in my two breakfast tacos and get over charged. Some days, i get their special taco of the day. Which is $1.90. other days, I do not. Their regular tacos are $1.99. That is, egg and potato, or chorizo, etc. Today, i ordered two egg, cheese & pico de gallo tacos. how much do you think they should be about per taco? $2.50? $3.00? they charged me over $3.50. at the end of it all, $7.86 plus 1.50 tip. Nearly ten dollars for two simple tacos is excessive. look, i get it. it's a couple of bucks extra and someone has to make it, who cares? the problem is that i order to-go there often, or at least i did. plus, their cost per taco, what they pay for the ingredients is less than a dollar with payroll. It adds up. It just adds up. for heavens sake, they have a medium sized bag of their plain chips for $5.50... To-go I can go to H-E-B and get a very large bag of Doritos chips for five dollars. Paying a little more for convenience I get, but that's just ridiculous! truth be told: their food isn't that great to begin with. most of the time, the tacos are too soggy. sometimes, it's like they are going through food rations, with the smaller portions they put on the tacos. maybe, i just have uniquely bad luck with the experience every time i go. please, save yourself the headache and money. go somewhere else, anywhere else. Today I had the worst customer service, my daughter ordered a sweet tea and it tasted weird to her so she asked if she could change it out. At checkout Marco charged us for both even though she didn't drink the tea. He said oh well she ordered it not his problem if she didn't like it because he's been serving it all day. He wouldnt give me my money back so I asked for credit card receipt so I can change tip he told me no but then did, I changed amount and initialed it. I proceed to take a picture just incase and he snagged it from me before being able to. He said he's the manager, I really hope not because it was a horrible embarrassing experience. I live in San Antonio and come frequently to Corpus to visit my family so I have been to El Sol on my sister and brother inlaw's recommendation. We usually come for breakfast which is usually really good, this time we went for dinner. We were a group of 8 and were accommodated quickly and politely. Yes, there is a bit of a language barrier, the staff speaks mostly Spanish but we never have a problem communicating what we want and they definitely speak the language of YUMMY! I decided on the mini tacos, which is basically a plate of 5 (yes FIVE) street taco type tacos on double corn. They gave me a VERY generous serving of fresh avocado slices (I LOVE avocado and I couldn't finish it all!) Also they brought me the cilantro and grilled onion on the side as I requested. The plate also came with charro beans which were DELICIOUS! Chips and delicious spicy salsa were also complimentary at the table and super yummy too. Everyone at the table was very happy with their meal. A couple of people got the enchiladas, which I tasted off my sister's plate and they were tasty. Mom got the chicken quesadilla which had a lot of really big pieces of chicken that tasted grilled. We all agreed it was one of the best quesadillas we'd ever had. read more

Unfortunately, the price increases have taken the shine off the apple here. The food quality is pretty "CC average" and given that, the price increases make the menu less attractive. We liked coming here after Mass and having a pretty affordable breakfast/early lunch. But the price creep has made that goal unattainable. Now they are too expensive for the average quality of food in our opinion. They charge more for breakfast after 11am and that just stinks. Can't help myself. Back again, this time for tamales. I am way too picky about the tamales I eat. I have to say, after trying just about every restaurant, tamale house, house made version sold door to door, and food truck in town, these are the best so far. Not the great tamale of the past or foodie of the future variety. Just good. The meat goes all the way through the tamal which is job number one or I won't eat it. I hate biting into a mouthful of pure masa. The meat is shredded, not ground - check #2. Its moist but not so wet that there are air bubble pockets throughout. Check. Not greasy. Check. Not rubbery. Check. It stays together for the most part when you pick it up, yes, with your fingers. No gravy. I may have been raised by Yankees, but my marriage to a Mexican National taught me bunches. Check. The only thing is that they are very mild, and I like spicy tamales. But I won't hold that against them. I'll try them one more time for consistency, then I'll probably abandon the once great but now garbage variety served at Taqueria Acapulco in favor of these. Tomorrow for breakfast I'll gently fry the leftovers if there are any to see how they hold up. Yes, refried tamales for breakfast. Yum. Now if I could only find a great spicy bean tamale. read more

It doesn't look very fancy from the outside but the food and service was great! We were craving some menudo and when we sat down we were greeted by our very friendly server. We saw the menudo but also a *new* seafood soup so we got one of each and we were not disappointed! You can tell the menudo is homemade and freshly made with all the right peppers not that powder stuff. The seafood soup came with this delicious rice on the side. Te seafood soup was great and the only complaint was that the mussels didn't taste very fresh but overall the soups were awesome, service was fast and we are some satisfied San Antonians! read more

Then they charge .50 cents if you want it a-la-mehicana, which the waitress asked if we would like it that way, yet they don't tell you it's extra till you pay!!!!!! I've been coming here for years but I was disappointed when I went to the drive-through during this pandemic. Although the menu pricing is the same as the dine in menu, what you receive is quite different. Chips and salsa or not provided on drive through orders. That is significant for me because it's one of the main things I enjoy about eating Mexican food. Although it might be common for Mexican restaurants in regular to go orders, these are not ordinary times and we need our chips and salsa. But then when I got home with my dinner order and realized it also does not include tortillas. Seriously! So i ended up with chicken fajita dinner with no chips or tortillas. And to top it off the amount of salsa included was about enough for a breakfast taco but NOT appropriate for a dinner entrée. Unfortunately I must say... I don't think this is a restaurant I need to use for to go orders during the pandemic. It is a shame they did not think through the customers experience better. read more

I go by all the time, food is always below average one day I asked waiter if she could switch out my lemonade because it tasted funny, she said we'll I'm drinking it and there's nothing wrong with it.
