Finding very good restaurants when one walks in without checking out the reviews is not usual specially when the place is nearly vacant. We went into La Isla after playing mini golf next door at Treasure island and took a chance and got lucky. The service at this place is great. It feels like a family business where everybody involved is family but I might be wrong. The food was great though. Ambiance could be better but if I one out of 3 was to be missing I would take ambience in a heartbeat. We got the chipotle chicken, Pollo Monterey and a custom dish that was pure Vegetarian and all of them were delicious. The hibiscus drink was quite flavorful too and the kid loved it. the missing one star is for the ambience, We would definitely recommend.

Not sure where to go for our Eats, just driving and checking out places we see. I spotted a Mexican Restaurant called "La Isla Mexican Restaurant" that looks inviting and they are open. Walked in and the first thing that caught my eye was their Cool Bar - this is a nice Mom&Pop Place - the do it right. Located a table for us and Marie, our Server, came over, spoke to us what they are about, their Specials, etc.... Joe & I decided to have a Bloody Mary since it's not early-early morning and Bloody Mary's are essentially Veggies, and Veggies are good for you. Great way to start a day. Looking over the Menu trying to decide what to have is a tough choice because everything looks delicious - and they have pictures to help you decide. My Wife is having their "Cheese Omelet" with Skillet Potatoes & Refried Beans. Joe is going with the same, "Cheese Omelet" with Skillet Potatoes & Refried Beans but also ordered Sliced Avocados on the side. I am having their "Machacado & Eggs"; with Skillet Potatoes & Refried Beans. Those Bloody Mary's arrived and they are looking good. First sip told me that this is something special - it has that Peppery Bite Back that Bloody Mary's are known for. Soon our food arrived and it all ooks really good. My Wife and Joe really liked their Cheese Omelet. Those Skillet Potatoes are really good and the Refried Beans are the Best - period. My Machadaco & Eggs had lots of flavor throughout and was very tasty. All the food on the Menu looked Awesomelylicious and we really enjoyed what we just had, we were thinkng of coming back for Dinner. They have Specials for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner and Happy Hour Margaritas for only $2.25 - and All Day Mondays for the same price. "--- AND AGAIN" - And we did just that. We returned for our Dinner and ordered the Happy Hour Frozen Margaritas to start. Dany is our Server and we looked over the Menu trying to decide what to get - besides those Frozen Margaritas. My Wife decided on the "Tampiuena"; T-Bone Steak & Cheese Enchilada with Refried Beans, Rice & Guacamole. Joe is having the "Beef Fajitas & Shrimp"; Seasoned Beef Fajitas with Onions, Bell Peppers, Refried Beans, Rice & Guacamole. I am having the "Parrilladas"; Beef & Chicken Fajitas, Smoked Sausage & Shrimp served wtih Charro Beans & Rice. Orders are in and our Margaritas have arrived. These are really a nice size for only $2.25ea - and are Very Limey-Flavorful. While we enjoyed these Margaritas we ate some of the Best Chips & Salsa Ever. These Chips have a Real Corn Crunch to them and are Absolutely the Tastiest Chips I have had. Soon our food arrived and Joes and Mine are served on a Hot Skillet, Nancy's is on a plate - there is a lot of food for everyone. Flour Tortillas are also provided, fresh and hot. My Wife really liked here T-Bone Steak and ate all of it (I normally get a bite, but not this time). Joe said his Beef Fajitas were really good as were the Shrimp. My Parrilladas looks like someones Smorgasboard - lots of Meats on this skillet and it's all steaming hot. The Beef Fajitas are seasoned Just-Right and mighty tasty. Love the Thin Cut of the Chicken and the Flavor is Chickenliciousness. The Smoked Sausage is Perfectly Flavorful and the Grilled Shrimp is Shrimplylicious. The Onions & Bell Peppers add flavoring to all the Meats making it one great combination. These are also some of the Best Charro Beans anywhere and the Rice is Soft & Flavorful with the Guac being Fresh & Tasty. We also ate all the Chips and Dany brought us out more. They also provide you with extra Sauces for you to enjoy, the Red is Flavorful, the Green is HOTTT and the Dark is Really HOTTT stuff - but all very flavorful - with a Little Burn - and sometimes a Lot Burn. Dany also earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award. La Isla Mexcian Restaurant is the Find of the Year. You MUST dine here when in North Padre Island. It's actually the Best Place we were at. Not only for the Delicious Food but their prices are Very Low considering the location. Check'em out on Facebook - La Isla Mexican Restaurant -

The food was fresh and delicious. The service is quick and efficient! Place is big enough and restrooms are okay. The pricing is definitely great enough for what the food brings happiness to your tummies! I bought chips and salsa ( before 11am) chips and salsa are my favorite from any Mexican restaurant so it's a must have always and this place salsa was AMAZING! I orders tacos in which barbacoa was GREAT NOT greasy! The chorizo was perfect as well! The tortillas were fresh and homemade. Every time I'm in port AYE I'll definitely be coming here for breakfast!

The reason for my two star review is because the waitstaff were extremely rude. The food on the other hand was good and serving sizes were great. We could have fed a family of four with just two plates. With that being said, my friend brought her toddler with us and her toddler bumped her drink into the table by accident. My friend quickly cleaned up the mess, but the waitress seemed annoyed and took her drink and walked away never coming back to bring us another drink. She then just stood around with the other waitresses gossiping while we waited and never came back to check on us. Another waitress ended up bringing out our food. I will not be coming back here again.

The food was okay. Rice and beans could've been better. They're definitely slightly overpriced. Friendly quick service. Haven't tried the drive through. Kind quiet inside

    Do better:(

Queso and guacamole are awesome. Chili relleno and enchiladas were great. Best authentic Tex Mex on NPI and reasonable prices.

As a vegan, that made me excited because actual Mexican food usually has less cheese and can be made vegan. The business is quaint. There was a friendly hostess to welcome us in and our server was very hospitable. We ordered the chile relleno without cheese, zucchini in pasilla pepper sauce, and mole verde off the vegetarian options on the menu. We also enjoyed guacamole and chips. Our server was happy to accommodate our vegan modifications and it was really easy to communicate with him. The flavors are just WOW! Hands down the best guacamole of my life. The sauces are vibrant and rich. Everything tasted so fresh. And the prices for this quality of food cannot be beat. My husband and I literally licked sauce off the plates to make sure we did not miss one ounce of that authentic Mexican flavor. This place is top of our list of businesses to visit next time we are in town visiting family. We had an incredible experience and cannot wait to continue to explore the vegetarian menu options.

I'm not a professional food critic, but I do know seasoning, regional Mexican flavors, and what well‑prepared food should taste like -- and this just wasn't it for us. The restaurant didn't feel well-kept, and it appeared that only one server and one cook were working, plus we and another couple were the only ones there. We were served chips and salsa to start. The salsa, a taquera‑style orange sauce, was actually the best part of the meal. The chips, however, were extremely hard, not fresh, and definitely not warm. They looked house‑made, but whatever they were fried in made them almost inedible. I ordered the ribeye street tacos, and the steak was overcooked, had an odd taste, and wasn't enjoyable. I asked for extra cilantro and onions, which didn't happen, and the chimichurri they brought out was basically oil with a few seasonings floating in it. I almost complimented the Dr Pepper because it had a unique sweetness -- until I realized why. The red glass had visible staining on the inside. When I wiped the rim with my napkin, it came off dirty. They also don't offer straws, so whatever residue was in that glass is what you end up drinking. Between the food quality, the cleanliness concerns, and the overall condition of the restaurant, this was a no for us. How this place has earned such high mentions is honestly beyond me.

The most authentic flavor item in my lunch was the refried beans that look like poop at first sight. Rice was bland with cumin flavor and the mole was the most disappointing. Might as well have called them regular enchiladas, the flavor was basic taco mix with a tiny taste of mole. Just a thick cumin or comino paste. Enchiladas should be dripping with sauce in the inside. These were dry tortillas that were barely garnished with sauce on top. The chicken inside was very flavorul but dry. Then the 16 oz lemonade was 4$ and it was super sour ! I never leave reviews. The bacon wrapped jalapeños were perfectly made and zero fire which I appreciate. The nachos were huge half corn tortillas with refried black beans and cheese when I added the chicken I didn't realize it would add 14 dollars to my nachos!! lol I honestly thought it made the nachos 14 dollars. Naturally, I had to check it out--and let me tell you, this place absolutely lives up to the hype. I ordered the fish and shrimp dinner, and every bite was incredible. Even the drink portions were generous--huge cups, which I appreciated. Service was friendly, the prices were very reasonable, and the overall experience was exactly what I was hoping for.
