We stopped in for dinner after a fishing tournament and really enjoyed the overall setting. The ambiance was relaxing and refreshing--right on the water, with a nice breeze and a beautiful view. We started with the fried mushrooms. They were just okay taste-wise, but the portion was generous for the price. I ordered the grouper sandwich, which was one of the specials of the day, and it was absolutely delicious--crispy, flavorful, and very filling. The bun was surprisingly good too, but the fish was so tasty on its own that I didn't even need it as a sandwich. My fiancé had the shrimp po'boy. He wasn't very impressed, but to be fair, he's from Louisiana and has high standards when it comes to seafood. The service was unfortunately a bit underwhelming, especially since it wasn't very busy. I had to go up to the bar just to get some water, and we ended up clearing our own table after the appetizers to make room for our meals. All in all, the food had some highlights (especially the grouper!), and the atmosphere was great, but the service could definitely use some improvement.

Calamari with Marinara sauce. Delish!

Recommended by hubby - he came here for a business lunch. Came on a Saturday evening around 6 p.m. Rustic feel, 2 level restaurant with a beautiful bay view. Nice welcomed breeze as it was an open restaurant We ordered the calamari for our appetizer. It was delicious! I would have preferred that it was fried for just a tad longer, but it was juicy and tender. I ordered the pecan crusted flounder with mashed potato and green beans. It came with a cream sauce. Although the fish was cooked perfectly, the pecan crust lacked flavor, I had to add a bit of salt. And unfortunately, the flour hadn't been cooked out of the sauce. The mashed potato and the beans, however, were cooked perfectly and tasted great. Overall, the food rated a 3.5/4 to me. My husband ordered the mahimahi special with the jalapeno creamed corn and hush ouppies. He rated his dish a 5. I did taste the mahimahi and the creamed corn and it was really good. Beware that corn has a heat bite! The Tequila Sunrise and Watermelon margaritas were perfectly delicious! We will be back.

The food is insanely good! I ate too fast to take pics! Ask for your wine in a mason jar, it just hits different. The atmosphere is great, but the service......STOP IT! Mel is on her game and so sweet! She handled 14 of us and some we're winter Texans here for their last night and everything was smooth and perfect! You have a gem in her! Such a perfect night!

After a day of fishing we decided to try this place. If first impressions were it, we would have left. The young man taking names was either having a very bad day or he was overworked or undertrained but he was very clearly stressed and once our name was on the waitlist, he asked my name 4 more times and clearly 'lost' us on the waitlist. Fortunately, we got a table. Our waitress was very good - personable and appropriate level of checking on us. We started with deep fried calamari - it's always either rubbery or prepared well, so we had no expectations. When it came out, it was thicker than most I've ever seen and we were afraid it would be rubbery but we were pleasantly surprised - it was prepared very well - not rubbery at all and the breading was great. For my entree I had the shrimp platter. It came with about 10 very large sized shrimp and deep fried in a great batter. Very tasty! For sides I tried the hush puppies and jalapeño creamed corn. The hush puppies were perfect - crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. The jalapeño cream corn was perfect both on terms of flavor and texture. My buddies had the blackened fish sandwich; fried fish family; and grilled fish sandwich, respectively. They each said their sandwiches were prepared very well. I would definitely return!!

At 7 PM, the parking lot was full! I stepped inside and found no one was actually eating. Most of the comestibles were of a liquid nature. But we just wanted some fried shrimp. Maybe some fries or tots and, as stated on the menu, hushpuppies and "4 oz of slaw", on request. Besides that, it was only "deep fryer food", what could go wrong? Plenty! To be fair the shrimp wasn't horrible. But, when ordering, I was specifically asked if I wanted "4" shrimp or "8". I specified "8" for both orders. I also asked for tater-tots with one order, fries with the other. Additionally, as specified on the menu, I requested hush-puppies and slaw. That is when things went awry. I got the food to go, as we had a dog in the car and there were no pup friendly patio tables. The nice waitress brought our order and we pulled out into traffic. We soon found a quiet place to eat. That is when our anticipation was replaced by reality. The "hush-puppies" were little more than an inch in diameter! Those won't hush any puppy I ever knew. The tater-tots were only about the size of a thumb nail. The shrimp were large and nicely cooked, but we got short changed. I did get my 8 fried shrimp, as ordered. My wife only got 4. And there was no "cocktail sauce" no "tartar sauce", not even ketchup for the potato component. The food was hot though! It was so hot that it melted through the styrofoam "take out containers and even fused them together in a couple of places. There was no sign of any slaw-like food item. Our needs were simple. Our expectations were not too high. But serving all the food items ordered and paid for by a customer is apparently not in the bag of tricks at this restaurant.

Butter Churn If…read moreyou're anywhere near Aransas Pass and you haven't eaten at Butter Churn, you're flat-out missing out. From the moment you walk in, you can feel it -- this isn't some corporate chain going through the motions. This place is dialed in. It is probably one of the most put-together restaurants I've ever had the privilege of visiting. Every detail feels intentional. Clean lines, modern touches, spotless floors, organized buffet, upbeat energy -- they hit every mark. The décor has personality without being overdone. It feels like a true family restaurant -- warm, authentic, and welcoming -- but with a level of polish most places never achieve. The service? Exceptional. Real smiles. Real hospitality. You're not just another table. You feel seen and taken care of. Now let's talk about the brisket. Unbelievable. I had to ask how they were doing it, and Mark was more than happy to walk me through his process. When brisket is smoked low and slow -- and they smoke theirs for 20 hours -- here's what happens: * The visible fat cap mostly renders down. * The intramuscular fat melts. * Collagen breaks down into gelatin. * The melted fat soaks deep into the meat fibers. So by the time it hits your plate? You don't see fat. You taste rendered fat and gelatin inside the meat. For $14 all-you-can-eat lunch, I kept waiting for the catch. There isn't one. I probably ate close to a pound and a half of brisket myself and still wanted more. Tender, perfectly seasoned, smoky without being overpowering -- the kind of brisket that makes you stop mid-bite and just nod your head because you know you found something special. You walk out wondering how they're not charging double. Everything about this place reflects pride -- pride in the food, pride in the service, pride in the entire experience. It's consistent. It's clean. It's efficient. And that kind of consistency is rare. This is only my second five-star rating ever. That's how serious I am about it. I apologize for not getting a picture of the brisket, I got too carried away with eating it. I live in Corpus Christi, and honestly, that's probably a good thing. If I lived any closer, I'd be there every single day. If you want authentic, high-quality food served by people who genuinely care about what they're doing -- Butter Churn is it. Five stars. No hesitation.

I don't want to know how much butter went into the process, the perfect amount for maximum flavor for sure, so let's just go with that. Then we ordered the pear salad and shrimp and scallops. This is where it took a turn. The portion on the salad was not shareable, not even a full dinner portion for one. The presentation of the shrimp and scallops was lovely, but the shrimp and scallops themselves had ZERO seasoning or flavor. Not cooked with butter, not even salt or pepper. The only flavor came from the ginger carrot coulis which was nice but very gingery. The risotto was cold. Very cold. The only redeemer on the plate was the sautéed kale which had a lovely flavor and was nice and warm. I ultimately sent the main back and got a bowl of the bisque, which again-was a delight. Big hunks of lobster meat and creamy. Would go back for drinks and the bisque, but would not waste time on entrees.

Being on island time has kind of thrown off our internal clocks, we lost track of…read moretime, and when 7pm rolled around we realized we were hungry lol We knew what we wanted MacDaddy's BBQ, during our 7 hour drive to get here we pulled up Yelp to search for some new restaurant options, and after seeing the photos and positive reviews we knew this spot was on our list! What we didn't think about was it being a weekday and closing times, we just goofed! So anyway once we realized the restaurant closed at 8:00pm according to Google we got a little worried, being that I work in a restaurant I know how overwhelming it can be to see customers coming in less than an hour until close, fortunately my hubs double checked here on Yelp and then their website and found the closing time was 8:30pm, so we hopped in the car and got there as soon as we could, and we were relieved to see a few people still eating, and another arriving just after we pulled in. There was a little curfuffle once we were sat, the hostess initially offered us a table with bench seating, but one of us isn't able to sit on a bench due to disability, she kindly offered us a table with chairs, in what appeared to be a different servers section, we were close to the TV on the same wall as the front counter, anyway, after sitting a few minutes Johnathan greeted us and took our drink orders to get us started. The ambiance is so relaxed, there was trivia on a couple of the TV's good music, and lots of cool merch to buy, some of the shirts really made me laugh. We quickly made our selections, hubs got the one meat and two sides and opted for the pork ribs, they were cooked to perfection, and he was delighted considering that we were there the last hour of the day, he really enjoyed his meal, I too opted for the one meat and two sides, selecting the regular sausage, and it was delicious. The highlight was Johnathan, he was friendly, made recommendations, and offered dessert, which we couldn't resist, deciding on the German Chocolate cake, with a side of ice cream. We had to take that to go, we couldn't eat another bite. They have two choices for BBQ sauce, hubs got spicy, and I got regular, and I am glad cuz I'm a yellow bellied tender foot, I tasted the spicy and it IS spicy so for all of you that enjoy the heat, I think you will like their, tomato forward sauce. I usually like to dip each bite of my sausage in BBQ sauce, this particular flavor was just different, I think I will have to try it again, it wasn't typical Texas-esque smoky BBQ sauce, more like ketchup as the base and then flavors and spices added to make it their own, we did find it slightly odd that BBQ sauce doesn't automatically come with the meals, we had to ask for it, but one of the things I REALLY like about MacDaddy's layout is it's a TRUE sit down restaurant with servers vs going thru a cafeteria style line to get our food, ironically as we drove down and talked about wanting to find a BBQ spot, and in that conversation I mentioned that I'd love to find one that's not self serve, being that one of us is disabled it can add a lot of extra work for the other, we come down twice a year if possible and have been doing so for at least 10 years, and had never found a dedicated BBQ place, we have now, the food was good, the service was friendly and the vibe was casual and relaxing, we will definitely be back!
