Being positioned right between the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium this spot is the perfect place to grab a quick bite and drink after a tour. I went in not knowing what to think as there were so many mixed reviews, I went with my S/O and myself came out with a mixed review. Here it is. First entering Pier 99 it is a very typical feel for a coastal seafood joint, there are plenty of humorous signs along the walls and indoor and outdoor seating options. We were sat promptly as it was a Tuesday afternoon and not a prime time. After looking at the menu we decided we would stick with appetizers and drinks, we started off with the seafood queso and the strawberry Daquiri. Our queso came out promptly within 5 minutes, was very flavorful and was easily the best part of our dining experience. Our Daquiri however did not come for 15+ minutes and we had to ask our waitress a second time for them. She had brought them out promptly after making the second request however upon getting them and trying, they were nothing notable. They did not have much of a strawberry flavor to them and though it was very nice on a hot day to have a cold drink they did not carry what I had high hopes in for a Daquiri. For the rest of our order we decided to try the hot wings (buffalo tossed) and the Fried Calamari. Both came out promptly and were about what we were expecting based off of the reviews. The hot wings were very flavorful and had a good buffalo coating and paired nicely with the ranch provided, the texture however was not there. The wings were not nearly crispy enough and could have used a couple more minutes frying. The calamari was average as well, the lemon brought it up some however the marinara was in a little to go cup and was chunky and difficult to manage with some of the calamari. The texture was good on the batter however the squid itself had inconsistencies as some pieces were crispy and others chewy. At the end of the day if you wish to stop in for a snack and drink after a day of touring the area this is a good spot to do so, however for a meal I would prefer to go a little ways further for something I enjoy more. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. We made a reservation weeks in advance, so they knew to expect a large party, yet the service was mediocre at best. We were seated in a cramped area with little A/C, right next to the kitchen. To-go orders were being prioritized while we still hadn't received our meals. When our appetizers arrived, they were cold, and the shrimp in the main dishes was cold to the touch. At that point, we canceled our orders because no one wanted to risk getting sick. What made the experience even more disappointing was that the managers were nearby doing paperwork and never once checked on our table, despite us being there for over an hour. We had family travel in for my husband's graduation, and unfortunately we wasted so much valuable time at this restaurant. Very disappointing experience. read more

My husband and I are here visiting Corpus Christi. We had lunch at Pier 99 today. First, it took way too long for our food. We both got the shrimp tacos. How long does that take? Second, we asked for a side of avocado dressing. The waitress didn't bother to tell us it was $1.99 extra. Third, we used our debit card, which is like cash, and the waitress charged us the credit card price. I confirmed there is no processing charges for debit cards. The waitress argued with my husband and charged us the credit card price anyway. There was a cash price and a credit card price. We've never seen that at a restaurant. We decided to try a couple different appetizers as we were not in the mood to get an entire meal. Both my S/O and I started off with a strawberry Daiquiri and the seafood queso. We were presented with the queso which was arguably the best part of our visit. The chips were not quite salty enough for our taste but no problem as the table had its own! We were unfortunately not brought out our daiquiris for 15+ minutes, however after asking our waitress she promptly brought fresh ones out. We did not have any issues with our Daquiri other than the fact that the strawberry flavor was lacking, there was a little strawberry flavor however nothing to write home about. We then decided we would try the fried calamari and the hot wings. Both came out in a timely manner and were on average for what we were expecting. For our hot wings we decided to do an ever classic buffalo. While the flavor was there the texture just did not quite do it for either of us. They did not come out soggy however they were breaded and were not as crispy as we hoped for. The tops were however I believe a couple more minutes in the fryer would make them much better. The calamari was also average. The marinara cup that were brought was small in proportion to the amount of calamari (in my opinion). There was a good mix of rings and legs in the calamari, and the breading was nice however they did not stand out to us. Overall I was not disappointed nor was I impressed, I would 100% stop in after a day at the aquarium or USS Lexington and I was hungry for some seafood. Like most other past reviews the location is the biggest plus. On the water and great views. There is a heated section and outside section for the cold nights (or days). We walked from our hotel for dinner about 5pm. Not busy at all and servers and host waiting as we walked up. Family of 5 with three kids so heated section by the door. We ordered and app and meals - which we enjoyed. Norman burger / hamburger / kids burger and a seafood medley dish for the wife. Not one complaint about the food at all one improvement could be asking how burgers should be cooked by the server. The range of cooking for burgers was wide. Not sure if server just out what she thought we wanted or the cook cooked as they wanted it. But I'm not too picky about that. Where the service could improve was the server. Bella I think sue said. Lots of room for improvement here. Stood at the wrong end of the table to be heard first off. (Be at the end of the person ordering / paying. Presented food and asked right away how does it look (before biting into anything ). Then gone. And by gone is we never saw her until after finished awhile and present the check. She did not return to check after our first few bites. She did not return to offer refills of drinks. She did not return to clean dirty dishes and so on. Another server asked how our food was ! We saw this restaurant from the flight deck of the USS Lexington Museum. It's just a quick 1 minute walk from the base of the museum walkway so we decided to have a late lunch here. We were seated right away on the deck - which had great big umbrellas for shade and the breeze was awesome. Our server, Jacquelyn, was great! Friendly and attentive. Our food was good. I had a burger and my husband had the bourbon glazed (?) chicken sandwich. I also got a mango frozen daiquiri... and it was good! There was also live music (one man "band" - Billy Snipes). It's safe to say my family will not be returning. We came here on a Thursday afternoon, mainly due to the location. We were told there would be a 15 minute wait. No big deal. When we were finally seated, we got our drinks pretty quickly. However, after ordering, it was about 1 hr 10 minutes before we got our food, and my order came out wrong. Not to mentioned it was cold. The server was nice enough, but any time we asked about our food, we were told it was the next ticket up. She also wasn't around much. I drank my ice tea very slowly. Meanwhile, I watched as several other tables received their food. When my husband and sons ate, they said the food was decent, but nothing to rave about but it was cold too. Worst experience today. We walked in and sat down. There were about 5 tables taken and the same number of wait staff. Our waiter took our order. He brought us our appetizer and then promptly forgot about us and the other tables he was serving. He literally stood behind the ice machine on his phone. I'm talking 25 minutes. I wanted to take some time before posting to explain my experience carefully. The best part about this restaurant is definitely the location -- it's hard to beat the view. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. I've tried both grilled and fried items here and haven't been impressed. The fish tacos, in particular, were so salty I couldn't even finish them. On my next visit, I decided to just enjoy a drink by the water while my family ate dinner. Sadly, the drinks were far too sweet and not enjoyable. They aren't overpriced, but that might be because they don't contain any alcohol. I ordered a beer instead, thinking that would be a safe choice, but it came out warm -- definitely disappointing. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place for food or drinks. To make matters worse, the restroom was hot, stuffy, and had an unpleasant odor, which really took away from the dining experience. read more

We have been here before ( was very good )This time we went there this weekend . We noticed the menu is different more twords the cajun side not as many or kinds of fish as last year. We were seated across from the kitchen. I was watching what appeared to to be the manager (chubby lady with red hair) making our salads touching everything in sight no gloves on at all at the same time we seen all the wait staff coming in & out as they came in they were picking up food and eating it in the prep station we seen the manager come & go at least 4 times never washing hand once or wearing gloves as she continues to make salads .this was very uncomfortable and we will not be returning to this place . We were visitors from out of town and wanted to try some local favorites and Pier 99 was recommended to us. Unfortunately we could not recommend this restaurant to anyone, local or visiting. When we checked-in with the host, there seem to be a it of confusion with an employee visibly looking upset about the seating arrangement. We waited for about 20 minutes to get seated. I do work in the food and beverage business and so I understand wait times fluctuate due to guest capacity and speed of service. However, we were a party of 2 amongst maybe 2-3 additional parties. Visibly, you can see empty tables that are not filled, barely anyone in the restaurant. Once we got seated, to my horror, there was a cat roaming around the dining room and to the entrance of the kitchen. I am not sure what the food safety standard is set for Corpus Christi, but that was not it for me. We sat there for another 15 minutes and multiple servers passed us; and we sat there without being acknowledged or even asked choice of beverage. Overall, the experience was far from "meeting standard" in my book. It was an extremely disappointing experience to say the least when a local restaurant was recommended. read more

After visiting the USS Lexington, we stopped by for a late lunch. We were hopeful because of the restaurant being on the water and an establishment open for over 20 years. Our family ordered two fried calamari's, two fried fish and shrimp lunch specials, fried oyster lunch special, fried oyster po-boy, and a kid fried shrimp with a side of broccoli. The food was good and the seafood fresh. The establishment itself did not look clean. The women's restroom had a stall out of order and smelled terrible, which made me nervous to stay. We had an incredibly disappointing experience here on Saturday, July 5th. We were a party of 9 and meeting my daughter's boyfriend's family for the first time --- it was me, my mom, my 18-year-old, her boyfriend, and his family (his parents, his brother, his grandfather, and his uncle). While we expected some wait on a busy holiday weekend, we ended up waiting over 1.5 hours to be seated--only to watch them give our table away to another party of 9 who arrived much later. Even though we were told it was "first come, first served" and that everyone had to be present to get on the list, that clearly wasn't followed. Once we were finally seated, things only got worse. Our server, Scott B., seemed visibly annoyed from the start. He took so long to even approach our table that another female staff member had to step in just to take our drink orders. It felt like we were bothering him just by ordering or asking questions. We ordered cheese dip as an appetizer, but it took over 30 minutes to arrive. Turns out it had been delivered by mistake to the other party of 9 seated next to us, and they ate it even though it wasn't theirs. No one checked on us during this time--we actually had to send someone from our table to the front to ask about it. A staff member admitted the mix-up and said they'd remake it and get it out to us. The queso was decent once it finally arrived, and the chips were fresh, but my Bloody Mary was a disappointment--mostly ice, watery, and lacking flavor. Our entrees took over an hour to arrive. I ordered the fish and shrimp platter, but it came out missing fish. I wasn't even given a fork, and I had to ask Scott and two other staff members three separate times before I finally got one--all while waiting for my missing fish to be brought out. Scott acted irritated every time we had to ask for anything. When the missing fish finally arrived, it was so salty it was inedible--everyone at the table agreed it was way too salty to eat. The shrimp were just okay--mostly breading with little shrimp inside. The sides were just as disappointing. The fries were cold, the hushpuppies were room temperature, and the coleslaw--which should have been cold--was actually warm. Honestly, almost everything at the table came out either cold or lukewarm. The only exceptions were the fried green tomatoes my mom ordered and two other dishes--just three hot dishes out of our entire large order. As if that wasn't bad enough, the table we were seated at had sharp, splintered wood sticking out from it, which I didn't notice until it tore my brand new dress--ruining it completely. When I told the manager, he was apologetic and said he would comp my meal to make it right. However, when Scott brought the check, not only was my meal not removed, but he also showed more attitude and expected one person to pay the entire bill. When we asked for separate checks, he acted like it was a huge hassle and was extremely rude throughout. He also messed up the split checks and initially charged me for items that weren't mine. Just pointing this out seemed to irritate him even more. After a lot of back-and-forth, I finally got the correct bill--but instead of my meal being comped as the manager promised, they only took 10% off the total bill, which didn't even begin to cover the ruined dress or terrible experience. By the time we left, we had been there for over four hours. To top it all off, Scott never mentioned that gratuity was automatically added to the bill. The payment screen was confusing, and I unknowingly tipped again--leaving me with a nearly $70 bill for cold food, rude service, and a ruined dress. My receipt also showed some odd overcharges--my subtotal was higher than expected, and it seemed like additional gratuity had been slipped in. Between the awful service, poorly handled food, long waits, cold dishes, ruined clothing, and shady billing, this was easily one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. I would never return here or recommend it to anyone--especially if you end up with Scott B. as your server. read more
