On my trip to Virginia in February, I had my first taste of Peruvian rotisserie chicken. I was hooked. I craved it for two months while back in Michigan. After reading some of the reviews, I decided to give King Pollo in Fairfax a try as our first Peruvian chicken (first take-out) during the social distancing time. I'm so happy to have gotten my chicken, pupusa, yucca and tons of green and yellow sauce "fix!" A new find... Peruvian green beans! What do they do to them? I don't know, but I love 'em. I've ordered the Mixed Fajitas, Yuca & the Plantains. I liked the plantains, & the yuca tasted a bit salty to me, but not any drier than the ones I'm used to from another Peruvian restaurant. For the mixed fajitas, the meat pieces felt way too salty to me & so much of the tomato-based sauce was put into the container that some of it actually got onto the side dishes during the delivery; so, while I might order the yuca & the plantains again in the future, I'll never order the fajitas again. read more

Came here for lunch to get some peruvian food besides chicken. They didnt have their full menu up because one of the tv screens was out but i was able to pull up the menu on their website. My friend and i ordered 1/4 chicken with yucca and fried rice and lomo saltado with rice and beans and plantains. We also order two cheese pupusas. The chicken wasn't anything special and was a bit dry but you can drip it in the yellow or green sauce to make it better! The lomo was too salty for me but the meat was tender. It was odd that it didnt come with fries which is how the tradition dish is made. The one thing that was delicious was the pupusas! I would just come back for that. They grill/fry them per order and they come out hot and super cheesy. read more

Located in an off-shoot of a strip mall, parking can be iffy since the pizza shop next door does a brisk delivery business. The restaurant is mainly a take-away although there are several tables set close together. I worked near the original and the relocated stores in Sterling so I was thrilled to find a location in Chantilly. I ordered my two favorites - Yucca con Chicharron and a Revueltas pupusa. With a bottled drink, the total was a bit under $15. I had forgotten that the "platter" version of Chicharron includes 2 sides. Fortunately the various sides are on the steam table and I decided on Yucca and Rice/Beans. The Chicharron arrived quickly while the pupusa would take a few minutes as I was told when I paid. First and foremost, the portions are extremely generous AND tasty. The Chicharron appeared to be right out of the fryer! The pork chunks were decently sized, requiring a knife to cut then into manageable pieces. When dining in, squeeze bottles of Aji Verde and Aji Amarillo which is so much easier than having to beg for the little plastic cups. The Aji Verde has some kick but it's reasonably mild. As promised, my pupusa arrived hot off the griddle with the obligatory slaw and salsa mixed together. It's a decent size - roughly 4" diameter which makes it a great snack but for a meal, order at least 2. I polished off the pupusa but took away at least half of the Chicharron. At present, I'll get 2 smaller meals from the leftovers. Now that I know other locations of King Polla exist, I'll be back when I'm in this part of town. read more

A name as fitting as the food, this place is truly the King of Pollo. Go no further (as long as you are within 15-20 min radius of this place) as you have now found the best Peruvian Chicken shop in near vicinity. While I will not be so arrogant to claim that I am a world renown connoisseur of Peruvian Chicken, please do note that the most reviewed restaurants on my account are indeed Peruvian Chicken places. With that, please grant me some street credibility when I say this is a five out of five. Now, keep in mind that most "Five" places that have Peruvian Chicken do not typically make their stand on the chicken. In fact, I would say most places are about the same, Chicken is moist on the inside, juices flowing, and a nice crisp and tasty skin. Of course you will find some downtrodden places that serve two or three star chicken -- meaning overcooked chicken that is as dry and barren as, well use your imagination. Anyways, what separates these places from one another are the sides and the sauces. Sides: I always get the yucca because I love a good yucca with a crunchy outer shell and a nice tender inside. The thing that really stood out to me was that their yucca pieces were thick. Not some stick-like french fry wannabe. No, in fact it was large and in charge - just how some people like their woman. Sauces: Striking the right consistency between too watery and too thick is tough. However, King Pollo comes about as close as I've tasted as any other establishment. The best? You get 4 sauces, two whites and two greens. Most places cheap out and give you 3 total sauces. But wait, there's more (for three low payments of.... nevermind)! They also serve bottles of the white and green sauce for those who are eating-in, and you can lather on as much white and green sauce as you want. Who doesn't love some extra green spicy sauce? Overall, you won't find a better Peruvian Chicken place in the area than King Pollo. Previously, the only game in town was Cholito Chicken, which was OK. But 'lo and behold, a King has risen. Ordered Uber eats for lunch. I had the chicken pupusa, Loroco pupusa, and an order of chicharrones. Everything was very good. The chicharrones were a little on the dry side but the ones with the fat attached were more tender. The loroco pupusa was something different that I had never heard of. Loroco is some type of flower/herb and it was different but tasty - looked kind of like the top of an asparagus and tasted like similarly. read more

Sopa de res is hands down the best thing to get here. One of the only places that serve it hot and the soup itself is tasteful (beef has bone FYI), it's somewhat fatty, but that is the only way it should be. Soup itself has carrots, cabbage, corn on the cob and it's made w green bell peppers, cilantro, tomatoes. Comes w 3 tortillas and white rice and 2 sauces and lime. I normally bring friends that like pho, they love it (all for 12.99). Note that this soup runs out by 2pm, so call ahead. There are a lot of people coming in and out, so I personally don't eat in. It's not really Peruvian, it's more Central American flavors but Peruvian dishes, the lomo is good not great also recommended just has tomato sauce if you like that read more

I ordered from King Pollo for the first time recently and was very pleased. I ordered a quarter chicken white meat only with mild sauce. I like Peruvian chicken but have only enjoyed it from one establishment in the DMV for over 15 years. However, now that I tried King Pollo I believe I am hooked and hope they never change the recipe, and the staff remains humbled and customer service friendly. The chicken was flavorful and moist. The sauce was smooth with good consistency and well blended so that the mayonnaise or other ingredients did not overpower the taste. Came here for some take out. Small fast food style spot in large strip mall. Got the BBQ chicken. Didn't think much of it. No special flavor. Very small pieces of chicken. Also got the rice and beans which tasted like rice with some beans mixed in it. Not very tasty. The best part of the meal was the steamed mixed veggies. Maybe I just don't care for Peruvian food. 2 Warnings if you go here: DO NOT GET THE MAC N CHEESE and BE PREPARED TO EXPERIENCE HEAVEN. I'm not going to be pushy and try to force you to go here, but if you don't want to live your life regretting a chance to eat the best meal ever created, you should consider stopping in. Here's the highlight section. Seating: limited. Service: fast. Taste: amazing. Portion control: non-existent. Flan: Unknown (I don't like flan so I never tried it.) Sides: Fantastic as long as you DO NOT GET THE MAC N CHEESE. The mac and cheese here (MnC) is the only thing I can't recommend. I know it looks great; the vivid yellow color and creamy thickness of the cheese are alluring. Trust me when I tell you that there is no cheese flavor. It is like water which they dyed yellow and added viscosity until it had the thickness of Velveeta, but it is tasteless. Heed my warning and steer clear. The chicken tastes great, maybe a little oily but really freaking good. Add in some of the yellow sauce and you will experience a happiness building inside you like you've never felt before. The sides are what will really put you over the top. You need to get a side of their weird spaghetti (or as they call it "spaghetti"). This stuff is pure bliss. It tastes like childhood nostalgia and smiles. Your second side is dependent on tastes. Yuca, plantains, and cheesy potatoes are fan favorites, but the healthy stuff (beans, rice, mixed vegetables, etc.) isn't bad either. I still remember my first time there. Ordered my first side of weird spaghetti and the guy spoons some into its section of the container. Then another spoonful to top off the section. Then another spoonful so now it's overflowing into other areas and onto the chicken. Then one more spoonful. At this point I'm wondering how he's going to manage to close the box without it spilling all over. Then he did the same with the mixed vegetables. At the end of it all with the chicken and sides the container weighed 36 pounds, and I needed to take a break halfway between the counter and my car to rest because it was so heavy to carry. I'd like to close by addressing all the haters saying this place isn't "authentic". You paid 7 fucking dollars for an entire half of an awesome tasting chicken and 2 great overflowing sides (assuming again you do NOT get the MnC, I can not stress this enough). You can take the high horse that you parked in the handicapped spot and ride it the hell out of here to your yacht where you're late for croquet with Chet and Muffy. read more

You can really taste the char on their chicken. Both the aji verde (green chili) and white sauce were on point -- authentic and offered the right amount of kick. The rice was moist and seasoned nicely. The yucca, on the other hand, was lacking and was chewy and a bit rubbery. I'll have to go back and try their other sides. If this place would up their game on their yucca similar to Backyard Chicken's, this could very well be my go-to for Peruvian cravings when I can't make it out to Super Chicken. KP has great potential, and since they just opened, hopefully the kinks can be worked out. read more

I love this place. The chicken is moist and flavorful with crispy skin. There are plenty of sides to choose from (yucca, beans, rice, beans and rice, fried rice, and even spaghetti) and the ones I've tried are great. Someone else mentioned that it wasn't authentic citing Asian owners and offering fried rice as proof. First off, who cares who owns the place? All I care about is if the cooks know how to make delicious Peruvian chicken and they definitely know how to here. Secondly, almost all of the pollo a la brasa places I've been to offer some sort of fried rice. I've also tried the carne asada and the lomo saltado here. I have to say that they're both great values because the portions are huge, but I feel like they lean toward slightly over salting both dishes. The place is kind of small, so finding seating during peak hours (lunch) might be difficult. That being said, it's still a mainstay in my lunch rotation. Great food for a good price. read more

I had an item that is not even remotely advertised on their specials or regular items: Lomo Saltado. This singular food item for a reasonable $7.99 comes with steak fries on the side and is possibly the ONLY item here that is tolerable and worthy of a visit. Do yourself a favor and avoid the siren call of the wafting roast chicken smell as you will still be highly disappointed by its lack of flavor compared to the likes of any pollo stores in Falls Church or Arlington. My husband and I stopped by King Pollo to take a break from test driving over at the Chantilly Auto Mall. We shared a half chicken platter, and it was an insane amount of food for two people!! I think the cost was around $8 and they pilled on the sides, literally, the plate was overflowing. We got the yuca and the rice and beans. We also ordered two pupusas because we didn't realize the amount of food that we would be getting. The chicken was really moist and flavorful. The yuca was nothing special, but a nice escape from boring fries. We barely touched the pupusas when they came out, but they were a little on the cheesy side. I almost choked on the amount of cheese because I couldn't get it apart :) For $2 a piece though, they were a great deal. Overall, this place did not disappoint. Maybe I'm just not used to Peruvian cuisine, but the lomo saltado I had was not something I would order again. The flavor was odd to me and the meat was very tough. I don't have other references so I wasn't sure if that was the way it's supposed to be.. I think I enjoyed the vegetables more. My boyfriend's chicken was pretty good and the sides were even better. That mac and cheese was delicious! Portions were huge and we definitely had more than enough left over for lunch the next day. Will be back again sometime! read more

I travel all the time and rely heavily on yelp to assist with finding good places to eat. I stumbled along king Pollo and thought it might be a good authentic place to have some good Peruvian chicken. I walked up to the counter and placed my order. The gentleman that took my order said they are completely out of chicken and offered a selection of stew and other different various meats. I ordered the carne asada plate. I also had the green beans and vegetables which were very good. I had the red beans and rice, which was dry and old. Tasted like it was a couple days old and just reheated. I literally could not eat the Carne Asada. It tasted like a leather shoe. Super tough and over cooked. The biggest disappointment about this dining experience was three of the King Polo employees came out into the dining area and ate chicken meals right next to me laughing. So much for the customer comes first. They said they were out of chicken? If I was the owner, I would fire everyone in this place. read more

I tried this place today for lunch for the first time, because it's close to my job. I ordered: "5. Lomo Saltado Stir-fried beef sirloin in tomato-soy-vinegar sauce with white rice and steak fries" It was absolutely fantastic. This is real steak, not that nasty Steak'ems shit that they pass off as "steak" at terrible places like Subway. Succulent juicy marinated beef cooked just right, with fresh veggies over (high-qaulity) rice with two types of sauces that compliment perfectly. And the portion was very generous. I pigged out, crushed it at lunch. And I still had enough leftovers to bring home to my wife. She crushed the leftovers. For ten bucks, two absolutely delicious meals. Should have listened to the low reviews. First, some Caucasian people DO speak Spanish. Try not to joke or belittle them out in the open, especially in earshot. The food was nothing to be excited about and the ají amarillo IS like mustard and mayo (no AJÍ). After all of that was done, I listened to them criticize another customer based on what he ordered and the questions he asked. And finally, in the food service industry you shouldn't make sarcastic or rude remarks in front of customers. There is so much say about this restaurant, but I'll keep it brief. This is one of the best Hispanic restaurants in the area. Everything from the chicken to the sauce is amazing. Everything is cooked perfectly and is very fresh. The menu is easy to read, which is a big deal for me. It's in Spanish, but it translates to English right under it so you know what you're looking at. It is also a really easy menu to navigate. The line moves fairly quickly and the customer service is stellar. The employees are very kind and friendly. They do their best to serve you as quickly as possible. I would recommend to first-timers that you brush up on your Spanish. Ordering food in Spanish isn't hard. I've noticed that you get the best service when you do just because they understand Spanish much much better than English. read more

As well the prices are super fair and the service is very quick. there is not much in the way of frivolities but that is not what the place is there for. It delivers great value and fantastic chicken. I went there on a fluke soon after it opened six months or so ago. It is now my go to place for this type of chicken. I buy a half chicken (two sided come with it) and have more than enough food to last me for two meals for under 7 dollars. They deliver, which is nice around lunch time. I've had the rotisserie chicken, not bad... not Guapo's, but not bad. The lomo salado here is really good, HUGE portion too. I can order it for lunch and get at least two meals from it. Had a pupusa from there once, it wasn't terrible, but it wasn't very good either. It was a little too greasy for my tastes. The plus's, the chicken meals are relatively cheap, come with two sides and the chicken is pretty flavorful. They deliver with a $12.00 minimum. The green jalapeno sauce is fantabulous! The down sides, delivery takes FOREVER. I am .5 miles away and it usually takes about an hour or so. The tamales (which are one of my most favorite things ever) are terrible here. Blah, no flavor, soggy, and full of bones, literally, BONES! Do yourself a favor, skip those all together. It should have tipped me off that this place was not very authentic with the name "King Pollo". So, I should not have been surprised with the lack of authenticity of the aji amarillo (yellow sauce). Great service, great food and just overall great experience. The menu tends to change up in regards to the sides each week but they have a great selection. Very limited seating and it is better to just take out. They have plenty of sauces to add to your chicken but the flavor of just the chicken itself is great.They have plenty of drinks and options for lunch/dinner. read more
