Use to love this place went my office use to be behind the building. Now I come back and it was just meh. Basic Peruvian chicken with plenty of seating to dine in but most customer are carry out. Half chicken with 2 side $15.99- 3/5- The chicken lack flavor compared to what is used to be but the chicken was cook perfectly. The potatoes salad was good and refreshing since they added beet to it. The lentil was disappointing, edible but no flavor at all. Flan $3.99 3/5- A tad bit thik flan but the flavor was good until i bite in to a aluminim wire that you normally find it a pot scrub. Most likely I would come back if in the area but not going to go out the way for it. The staff was nice thou read more

One of my favorite places! I always love ordering the family plan--two whole chickens, four sides, French fries, six cans of soda, and a variety of sauces. Everything is delicious, the portions are generous, and the price is amazing. Only $61 including tax for all of that! Definitely a great deal for a family meal. Highly recommend! read more

One of my fav "holes in the wall" for Peruvian chicken. Never dry, well season chicken. Lots of different sides to choose from - plantains and side salad are my to go. On cooler day, like today, the chicken stew hits the spot - really can't go wrong eating here. read more

I live about 2 minutes from here and decided to try them out for the first time. It was awesome! The gentleman said it would be a 5 minute wait for the chicken. I decided to get a whole chicken with no sides. It came with 5 containers of mayo and 5 green sauce. The green sauce was fantastic! The chicken was marinated well and very moist. There are plenty of tables to dine in. The cashier was friendly too. I will definitely be back. Thank you! read more

Not only was a Uber driver late And Food cold, but the food was only subpar and just tasteless and disgusting. I don't even know why anyone else would even recommend this place because the food is just disgusting altogether!! The driver even delivered us someone else's order and I don't know why they did!! I know these mix ups happen but still, Uber didn't even give me a break and still charged me when I try to replace my order and receive my actual order!! My actual order still was miserable!! There were onions on the steak and chicken sub, and it was actually disgusting!!! We will never be ordering from here ever ever ever ever again!!! Seriously! Never order from this place that food is terrible! Just absolutely terrible! Even looking at the other person's order was absolutely disgusting! I'm not even sure what they ordered, but it was just miserable looking and I don't know what pink goo was! But it wanted to make me barf!!!! Yuck!!!! read more

What a good place to get quick and easy comfort food! They are so reasonably priced and no long wait line.

Forget any other big grocery store rotisserie chicken. This rotisserie chicken is hands down the best in Northern Virginia I have had.

The chicken sub is delicious. Melted cheese and fresh rotisserie chicken. You're not going to get a sub like this ANYWHERE around here. It's also just 9.99 which is a deal. The menu has gotten a little more expensive, but this is the best flavors in the area. read more

I enjoyed my food from this chicken Rico location. I got the whole chicken, rice, and beans. The sides were huge. You get green and yellow sauce. Chicken tasted good, some parts a little on the dry side but overall not bad especially once sauce is added. I did a to go order which they out together fast. I'd come back! read more

It had been years since we last visited Chicken Rico. Recently, I was wanting to have some pollo a la brasa and chaufa (fried) rice. Seeing that GrubHub worked with Chicken Rico, we decided to give them a try. I had remembered their chicken as being quite good and I had enjoyed their chaufa rice. This time they had a dinner special that consisted of 1/4 chicken (with an upcharge of 50 cents for white meat), 2 sides and a can of soda. So, that's what we each got. My dinner had white meat, chaufa rice and platanos. My husband had dark meat, cole slaw and platanos. We each got a can of Coke. The order got to us in a reasonable amount of time. We noticed that the chicken was still warm. Also, we noticed that they were still preparing the chicken the same way, which involves rubbing spices under the skin which adds extra flavor. I was impressed with my piece of chicken as it managed to stay moist throughout the meal. No need for any green or yellow sauce. The platanos were also warm and very flavorful. The rice didn't disappoint as it, too, remained moist and the flavoring was spot on. My husband liked his cole slaw but wished it wasn't so soupy. He appreciated that they put it in a separate container. He, too, enjoyed his piece of chicken. We thought this was a great dinner deal ($10.99 for dark meat, 50 cents extra for white meat) and would gladly have it yet again. read more

Excellent spot for Peruvian chicken. They work fast, the interior is generally clean, and the portion sizes are commensurate with the prices. I strongly recommend the chicken burrito. The fried yucca is an authentic part of the meal, but, unfortunately, they don't season them enough. A bit more salt right when they come out of the fryer and I think they'd be perfect. I would recommend the lentil & potatoes side instead of the yucca read more

An okay pollo a la brasa establishment. Nothing spectacular to write about. The prices are a bit higher than most and the A/C doesn't work half the time, so you may feel like you are eating inside of a sauna at times. If I had to rank the Peruvian chicken restaurants in the Herndon/Reston/Sterling area, I would go with the following for the chicken but with the added bonuses, below: 1. Super Chicken - supreme across the board! 2. King Pollo - unlimited sauces, good sides; the green sauce packs a mean kick! 3. Crisp & Juicy - the spicy orange sauce is the best!!! 4. Waku Chicken - decent sides 5. Chicken Rico 6. Pollos Inka - complimentary chips and salsa 7. Pollo Peru - should be removed from the list due to very limited sides and jacked up, higher prices read more

Definitely five stars. The chicken here is more moist, more flavorful and a bit more meaty compared to the very famous one is Arlington. On top of that, Chicken Rico has much more selections on their menu. Here I don't have to compromise to fries, rice and cole slaw only. Here they have beans, yuca, plantains, salad, etc. They even have Lomo Saltado and Whole Fish. Lomo Saltado was quite good too. This will definitely be my go-to place for Peruvian chicken from now on. read more

Good portion, simple basic, fresh and delicious. Great stuff, friendly service. Will be back.

This is a solid spot for a cheap meal. The chicken isn't the best I have ever had by any means but it certainly hits the spot. The rice and beans are really average but worth it for the price. The food is ready really quickly- usually within 5 minutes. They don't have the most side options compared to other chicken places. Not a fan of the yellow sauce at this one- kinda tastes like basically just mayo. read more

Just got off the airport and headed straight here. Super hearty Peruvian food with a huge portion. It was a bit salty but my friend who regularly comes assured me that it typically wasn't so salty. I ordered the lomo saltado with the mango yogurt drink. Fries were steak cut and drenched with the meat juice. The two sauces that came with the dish was one of a cream base, and another that was like a tomatillo/jalapeño purée. Fantastic with the fries and the meat. The portion was large enough to share between two people or for one person who eats a lot! Overall would definitely recommend. It's hearty, delicious, flavorful, and comes in a huge portion! read more

In the Peruvian Chicken category of restaurants, it doesn't get more dependable than Chicken Rico. I've been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. Flavorful chicken, tasty fried Yuca, delicious fries, friendly and efficient service. Solid, all around. In COVID-19 times, their game has only gotten better: a barrier is now in place between the food counter and customers for additional distance; all seats have been removed from the main floor but those by the windows (two tables on opposite sides of the restaurant) remain for dine-in; all staff wear masks and patrons are required to do so too. I also hear they offer contactless delivery. On my most recent visit, there was a note taped to the cash register thanking patrons for helping them provide meals to local families in need during the pandemic. So there you have it: tasty food, affordable prices, friendly service, and a heart of gold. Doesn't get any better! read more

I absolutely love little non- chain restaurants like this one. Very casual so you can eat in or take away. The best deal is the whole chicken which they chop up for you in to quarters and it comes with two sides of your choice. The fried rice is fantastic with sweet corn mixed in and a few cut green beans and the plantains are as good as any in Miami. The chicken is seasoned and cooked perfectly... lots of paprika and very flavorful. Did I get a few odd looks being a middle aged white guy in a Peruvian chicken place? Yes but so what? The customer service is great and Yes I will be back! read more

As someone who grew up on a chicken farm and only eats chicken and seafood... I'm happy to confirm that this place is absolutely legit and reasonably priced. The flavors of the chicken are phenomenal. Juicy, flavorful, tender meat... complimented with crispy perfectly seasoned skin. The plantains are as good as any you'd get in Miami, which is a compliment. Pictures are worth a thousand words. You owe it to discover this chicken for yourself. Go now. If you're wondering what time of day is good, I can confirm that 8pm on a Thursday the chicken and plantains were fresh and delicious. read more

I ordered delivery via grub hub. Delivery was fast. Unfortunately I was informed that on weekends they do not have vegetables or spinach as sides. So I ordered salad and plantains instead and did not regret it. Delivery was quick. I ordered the 1/4 chicken . Chicken was moist juicy and seasoned very well. The plantains were amazing! They were sweet and had been treated with butter and sugar I believe so that was a good surprise. Salad was basic but fresh with onions cucumbers and a citrus flavor dressing. Price was good for $11 and for what I received . I would recommend for lunch or even dinner! I will probably try their lomo salteado next. read more

Really good Peruvian food. When I first walked in, I was very skeptical. The food counter had many items already made and waiting. We were hungry, so we stayed. I am glad we did! My coworker got the chicken special. A large portion of chicken in a light cream sauce, with cream spinach. I tried them both, delicious. I ordered the Lomo Saltado. Fresh fried up french fries topped with a large amount of steak, onions, tomato. This is the dish I try everywhere. It did not disappoint here. I recommend getting a couple of extra green sauce sides of you like spicy. If not, the white sauce is also delicious. read more

We've been coming for many years and I've always loved the food. With this pandemic I've not really eaten out anywhere. So tonight we decided to take advantage of their delivery. I'm so glad we did. We both got a half chicken with veggies and Cole slaw. I'm basically doing low carb so I just took a few spoons of the generous serving of cole slaw. It was really good and I had to stop myself from eating more. Lol. The chicken breasts were large, Dolly Parton chickens ya know. Seasoned really nicely and the veggies were a nice steamed mix of green beans, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli. So much food. I've got lunch for tomorrow. They had it ready and was delivered a bit before requested. Which is how I prefer it. All in all this was a great delivery experience. read more

The food here is good. I'm appalled at the hygiene though. The last time I went here the soap dispenser was broken in the Men's bathroom. When I informed an employee she mentioned the dispenser was broken frequently by customers and when she would put other soap out, the customers would steal it. She mentioned there has been no soap in that bathroom for several weeks now for that reason. I had to leave without washing my hands. I can only imagine the cooks are also not washing their hands. I got really sick back in June(possibly hep A) and although I can't say for sure I think I could have been infected with a foodborne illness from a place like this with no hand washing taking place. read more

Chicken Rico, please take me back! Wow. So the owner must have read my review and reached out to me (it always makes me happy to see owners taking pride in their businesses enough to read and respond to consumer feedback). He was very apologetic, said they made adjustments based on my feedback, and generously asked me to come back in and give them another shot. I have to admit, I was a little hesitant, but his apology was sincere and I am all about forgive and forget. I seriously am glad he did. I had me some of the best dang chicken I've ever tasted today as a result! I came in and spoke with the manager about the previous incident. She also apologized for the previous experience and was very nice all around. She took care of me. She scooped me up a heaping to-go order of a quarter white chicken, chicken fried rice, and chickpeas. The rice was good and moist. It had a mix of green onions, chicken and subtle flavors hanging out in the background. I probably would add a little bit of soy sauce if I had it on hand, but I mixed in a little of the yellow sauce that was in my bag and it worked out pretty well. Better than the fried rice I've had at most Chinese restaurants in fact. The chickpeas were very good as well, the texture was just right (which seems to be a problem at a lot of places that serve chickpeas) and had the flavor you would find at a lot of middle eastern establishments. It was very good and I was happy to see it on the side order line; a nice change of pace from your typical Pinto beans or black beans you would normally get at a chicken joint. I also took note that she scooped it into a leak proof container. Thank goodness! :) But the star of this show was the chicken. It was absolutely perfect. It was big and juicy. Crisp on the outside, juicy all the way through it's thick thick breast. The seasoning was definitely there, blackened perfectly (without tasting burnt) but wasn't too salty or overpowering. I generally don't eat all the skin when I go to a Chicken place because you always hear about how unhealthy it is.... well, there wasn't a scrap of skin left. It was so good I couldn't hold myself back. It seems almost crazy for me to say it being a die hard fan of the "other chicken place right down the block that starts with a G".... but the chicken I had today from Chicken Rico was hands down bigger, crispier, and tastier. I can't believe I just said that, but its true. I'm sold. Hey, it's even closer to my office.... so I think I'll be coming here more from now on. Also worth mentioning is the selection of sides is just outstanding. there was seriously like a dozen choices of sides. They had a tomato onion mix looking really fresh that I'll probably try next time. Thanks again to the owner and staff of Chicken Rico for going out of their way in restoring my faith in this place. read more

Decent Peruvian chicken & sides, and gross alfajores. We gave it a shot while we were in Herndon, but will stick to our usual places. The place was clean and fast with lots of side options. We got the plantains & yuca as sides. The yuca had been sitting there for awhile and not very crispy anymore. The plantains were overcooked. Chicken was better than the sides, but a tad overseasoned/salty. The worst I think was the alfajores cookie. The thick, pasty, dry cookie robbed my entire body of fluids as I began to chew a bite of it. Wayyy to thick for the cookie portion. The filling was meek and tasteless, and not enough to pull me out of my despair. Tips: Next to Giant; private lot for parking. Accepts cash, credit, etc. read more

Hate to be the one to give a bad review but it was just awful. I knew I shouldn't have cheated with Waku Chicken down the street but I thought with everyone's review it would be decent. The chicken just had an overall weird taste and it wasn't seasoned like a Peruvian chicken should be. I'm not sure what seasonings they had but it was not good. The portions were big, however, I didn't even want to eat any more after a few bites. The fries were plain hard as rocks and had that old taste. The yellow sauce was sooo disappointing. It literally tasted like mayo with yellow dye. No seasonings in it at all, it tasted like straight up mayo. Chicken fried rice? Please don't call it fried rice. It's embarrassing. The reviews from before were amazing but maybe they changed owners or chefs or something and now the chicken is not the same. I want to try it again, but I don't want my money to be wasted again. I pick Waku Chicken by 10000000% in the Herndon area, it never disappoints and their yellow sauce is 1000x better. read more

This is by far my favorite Peruvian style chicken joint in Northern VA. The chicken is consistently good. Smoky and juicy with flavor throughout. The service is fast, friendly, generous and the prices are affordable. My wife and I regularly come here for lunch. The chicken fried rice is excellent and could stand alone, the chicken is what it's all about. They also don't skimp or make you pay extra for the yellow and green sauces. If you've never tried Peruvian chicken, come here. Get one of the combos with fries, yucca or rice and you will be a happy camper. read more

As I tour the Peruvian options in the area, I was surprised it took me this long to hit Chicken Rico. I walked in for lunch at about 1PM on a weekday and the line wrapped around the side of the restaurant. That's a good sign. Aside from the line, the other immediate observation is the smell of the charcoal used in the rotisserie. The line moved pretty fast and I ordered 1/2 charcoal chicken, plantains, and lentils. I got my plate and stared at it - can I do this? The chicken was pretty big. It was a late lunch so before I knew it, the chicken was gone, as were the perfectly cooked plantains and the small cup of lentils. The chicken was tender, in part because it was brined. A little less salty would be preferred, though that may make it drier when cooking over charcoal. The plantains were sweet and the right balance between soft and firm. The small cup of lentils were forgettable - I should have stuck to fried yuca. Next time. Service is friendly and the line moves fast. The only other improvement I'd recommend is to make it easier to get tap water, given that the chicken is a bit on the salty side. I'll be back! read more
