Northern VA boasts numerous Peruvian charcoal chicken restaurants, and at least 5 are located within a five mile radius of my house. I decided to give Super Chicken a try when in need of a quick lunch close to home. I opted for the half chicken combo with a side of black beans and plantains. My food was ready well under the quoted 25-30 minute pickup time. I found the food here so-so. The white meat ran a little dry. The chicken itself had a nicely seasoned skin, but the meat underneath tasted muted without any spice notes. Charcoal cooked birds usually have a hint of flavor from the coals, but the rendition here lacked any discernible smoke. The sides tasted as expected. The black beans were bland, but at least were creamy and well cooked. I have no issues with the well fried and perfectly sweet plantains. The sauces here are on par with area competitors, though the staff here are unusually stingy with extra container requests. Overall, while my meal was fine there was nothing "super" about Super Chicken compelling enough to merit a return visit besides proximity. Most of the reviews for this restaurant are pretty old. I was in the neighborhood and decided to give it a try. I walked in and a fresh batch of chicken just came out. I got half a chicken, which came with 2 sides. There are not a lot of choices for sides like King Pollo. I settled on yucca and fries(the safe choices). Their yucca were nicely fried but the soggy fries were a big disappointment. I like my fries firm like the ones from Pollo Peru. The chicken breast was a bit dry as someone mentioned and the dark meat was definitely the better half. The sauces were excellent. Green one was really spicy and yellow has a good mustard flavor. I would probably not go back since their sides are really limited for my liking and their fries are just too soggy. The price is on par with other Peruvian chicken places. read more

It's not easy finding a really good Peruvian chicken spot in Reston but this location is by far my favorite place to get it! I love getting the combo that comes with two sides! They also have daily deals posted on the door so definitely look out for those. Would definitely recommend if your looking for a good Peruvian chicken location in Reston :) service is great earlier in the day during the week but starts to get busy around dinner time so be patient usually only 1-2 people working but definitely worth the wait!! Also I usually take this meal home since it's more of a home meal for me and my Wife. read more

Wow, okay so it's been over 3 years since my last review of this place so it's time to update my 2-cents on this place. :) Giving this place 4 stars instead of my previous 5 because I'm not a fan of how prices here have increased. I get it though - it is what it is and everything on this planet - but especially food and eating or carrying out - has gone up. Other than Super Chicken's increased prices, food quality here has not gone down and still remains consistently high quality THANK GOODNESS. The chargrilled rotisserie chicken is still delicious and meaty - hot, juicy and flavorful. Their sides are delicious and fresh with large portion sizes (higher prices but thankfully no shrinkflation going on here). 2 of us dined in for lunch and shared a 1/2 chicken that came with 2 sides (we got plantains and fried yucca), a large side of rice and 2 fountain drinks. Cost us $26.03 to be exact. Not cheap. See my pic and vid of our meal. But portion sizes for the sides were plentiful and the meal filled us up just right. The interior of the restaurant continues to remain VERY clean and neat. It's a small shop but very inviting inside. Cafeteria style, pay at the end of the counter, then take a seat anywhere. Fountain drinks are self serve. There's a beautiful, colorful whole-wall hand drawn mural (see my pic and vid) that is incredible. I took pics of all 3 menu sign boards so take a look at what they offer and their prices (need to try their Carne Asada again and will report back here, it was one of my favorite items - price went from $13.99 to now $16.99 - hopefully it remains delicious and high quality.) They dropped the receipt in the black beans, the order was a call ahead that was not ready after 15 minutes of travel and they stopped preparing my order to serve another customer instead of finishing my order first. The Peruvian chicken was phenomenal! Juicy and tender! Yummy!! My friend ordered a half of it and ordered the meal with mashed potatoes and veggies. I ordered the carne asada with a side of pasta salad and mashed potatoes. OMGoodness!!!!! The pasta salad was OUT OF THIS WORLD AMAZING!!!!! Recently got a take out order to try this for the first time. We ordered 2 of the 1/4 chicken (white) that comes with a breast, a wing and 2 side dishes. For sides we asked for cole slaw and fried rice. The rice was good, but would've preferred a more Spanish style rice. Also instead of cole slaw we received an order of fries and an order of cold pasta salad. The chicken was delicious and was worth it on its own. The sauces that came with it were also very good. I was curious to see how good Super Chicken is. Plus, one thing we both liked was that there was the option of ordering a meal with 2 pieces of chicken in it. That's what we opted to get as we wanted to put aside the extra pieces for another meal. We used Door Dash and the food arrived in a timely fashion---so no complaints at all there. As for the food, we both ordered the same dinner---2 chicken breasts that came with 2 sides. For my 2 sides, I ordered fried rice and platanos. My husband ordered white rice and platanos. The chicken was OK --- nice flavoring but on the dry side. The platanos were very tasty and the portion was generous. My husband's white rice had some carrots and peas added to it. What I didn't like was the fried rice. Generally speaking, when Peruvian places offer up fried rice, it tends to be in the form of chaufa rice, which I enjoy. This fried rice was odd as it had an unusual flavor that I couldn't pinpoint as to what, exactly, it was. I ended up not eating it all as I didn't care for the mystery spice. We used the leftover pieces to make a casserole a few days later. The chicken worked quite well for that purpose. Would we order there again? Perhaps. I had always gone to the Super Chicken in Tysons and loved it, so I was ecstatic when they brought a location closer to home! My go to's are always the Whole Chicken with two large sides and the Lomo Saltado. This location has a much smaller seating area than the Tysons one, so I usually opt for takeout. The food here is consistent and it almost beats the other location, but their service is slow at times. I guess I came at a bad time yesterday and they told me I'd have to wait about 20-25 minutes for the chicken to be ready. Fortunately it was worth the wait and all of the food was delicious! They also have a newer side that has brussel sprouts and carrots as well as Aji mac and cheese. I have only tried the brussels so far and like them a lot, aside from the fact that they are a bit greasy. I definitely plan to continue coming back! read more

After much hype from a couple of friends, I decided to grab takeout from Super Chicken. This Peruvian chicken restaurant is located in a small retail area beneath an apartment building. There is limited street parking, but ample parking is available in the building's garage. The restaurant itself is medium size and looks like it would normally have a good number of tables available for dine-in. There's a clear glass barrier so you can pick what to order. The chicken was probably the best part of the meal, as expected. It was moist and definitely tasted like rotisserie. The skin was just right, not too burnt. The green sauce that comes with the chicken was more of a paste, which was different because a lot of places use runnier green sauce. This one had a kick to it but it was very tolerable. I really had trouble liking the sides. Since I got two entrees, my sides were white rice and plantains for the first meal and black beans and fried rice for the second. The plantains were very good. The black beans were good but left nothing to be desired. The white and fried rice definitely need improvement. Both were either overcooked or made in a rice cooker because the rice was very sticky and chunky. It's definitely not the rice you'd expect in a Peruvian chicken restaurant. The white rice had canned corn, carrots, and lima beans mixed in, while the fried rice was basically white rice with soy sauce and a little bit of scrambled egg. Overall, I think Super Apollo could improve a bit. They're a pretty new restaurant, so I'll tally today's experience to that. I might give it a try once it's established. read more

We did our first delivery order. Everything was we'll packed and delivered pretty quickly. Hubby and I each got a 1/4 white meat chicken. He got rice and beans. I got salad and corn on the cob. We were very pleased. The seasoning and chicken itself was very tasty. I was happy since the salad was fresh, nothing wilted or "sad looking". Only thing hubby said his white rice had bits of corn, carrots, and green beans. He was expecting just plain white rice. He did like their green sauce much more than chicken rico. The yellow sauce was good too, touch of mustard made it different but good. Overall we agree that we now have a new peruvian chicken place to enjoy. The Inca salad was great! Came with everything you'd like: cranberries, red onions, creamy goat cheese, chopped chicken, tomatoes and lettuce. If I could leave negative stars for this place I would. My first attempt here was a few months ago and the churros order I picked up had a chunk of aluminum foil in it (I did email the company and have yet to hear back). The second time here they left off a coworkers tres leche which when we went back to report they provided two... but reported they couldn't refund the card from the initial order. Today was the last straw and our office won't be ordering from here anymore. We put orders in online for pick up at 1130 (about half an hour after their opening) the orders weren't ready when we arrived (a little past 1130) so after waiting we went back to the office for our lunch and the disappointment continued... my order (1/4 dark with coleslaw and plantains) had pasta salad vice coleslaw (which also happened to another person). To say the yuca was a dry hot mess would be an understatement; it was over cooked/fried, dry, and burnt! Both orders were like this... the chicken appeared a little undercooked? How much pink is acceptable for chicken?! The one entertaining moment?! Apparently someone proposed to our coworker as he found a ring in his bag of food (not in the food). Which he returned later that day to the restaurant to a very grateful employee. But, this is too much and would hope that they make changes soon. And... it was not one off. The complaints I will mention have been seen before. The level of oil on each was unacceptable to a point where it suggested that no one on the inside cared about what they were serving. My plantains were so saturated with oil they were soggy. In picking one up my hand was covered by oil and required hand washing right after. In fact it was as though i had placed my hand in a bottle of oil. The fries have the same atrocious presentation. I've been going to the Tyson's location for years but the Reston one is now closest to me and their chicken is just as good. The chicken is always juicy and flavorful, although a bit salty but in a good way! I always get plaintains and yuca on the side. After reading some of the reviews I was hyped about ordering from here. Unfortunately based on my meal it was overhyped. A positive of sorts, is they messed up to our benefit and gave us a chicken burrito someone else had ordered. As we were home we got to keep it. It was surprisingly a very solid burrito and as good as any you will get from the multitude of burrito places you can hit up. The fries on the other hand were bland and mushy. We ordered the big family meal. The chicken wasn't bad, it was decently moist but feel like the rub they use would have spots where they put way too much and feel like you would get overly salty bites as a result. The sides were mostly a miss. Fried rice had a bit of a weird taste to it and would not order again. Plantains were decent at best. The fried yucca was terrible, especially when I just had some good ones recently at another spot. Pieces were all over the place in size, but most were way too large to fry up properly. Texture was terrible as a result. We ordered coleslaw, but what they give you is not coleslaw, it is pasta salad. It wasn't bad, but not what I was expecting and not what I wanted. Overall the meal was just okay. Nothing stood out and really do not think this place is any better than similar spots you can eat at. About the only thing I think was worth getting again would be the burrito. If the sides were less of a miss I would probably order chicken from them again, but for that type of food I would rather order from elsewhere. read more
