California Burrito (bottom) and Bacon Breakfast Burrito (top)

I've been coming to this restaurant for YEARS and knew the previous owners well. The new staff is very friendly and the food is still high quality and tastes good! It's a hole in the wall type restaurant but I'd recommend stopping by.

I came in today and specifically ordered a "carnitas burrito with pico, beans, and cheese," however when I got home and took a huge bite, I immediately noticed that it was "carne asada" instead. No problem, I called in and explained the mix up without any kind of attitude, the cook informed me that he would fix it. When I got there, it was a whole different story. The cook basically called me a liar and did not want to correct his mistake now. The cashier lady then began to give me attitude and they were both extremely rude about it. I finally got them to fix it, but my family and I will no longer be coming here to be treated so rudely when I did nothing wrong. **HORRIBLE customer service**

This was my second visit here to this place and they don't disappoint. The food is very good but nothing special. I ordered the 2 cheese enchilada plate, 3 roll tacos with everything and a carne asada quesadilla. The enchiladas had the perfect amount of cheese, the roll tacos were freshly rolled and deep fried and the carne in the quesadilla was pretty juicy. It's attached to a Chevron gas station and the space is pretty small but not tiny; a few booths and some tables in the middle section. A sweet older lady was the cashier and she barely spoke English but an "A" for effort for trying, seriously, it was the cutest. She also made sure all my order was correct before handing it over to me. Reminds me of the grandma who fed you while you over at her house. Overall, I had a good experience and I might be back to try other special plates offered.

It's a true Oceanside classic, with surfboards everywhere, a laid-back vibe, and portions you could share. **What we ordered:** - **Coffee cake:** Get a slice for the table. It's moist and buttery, with a thick cinnamon crumb and a sweet glaze drizzled on top. - **Chile verde omelet (mine):** Tender pork machaca and melted cheese, smothered in homemade verde sauce and topped with sour cream and fresh pico, over crispy golden hash browns. It had great flavor and a little kick, and it was exactly what I wanted. - **ABC omelet:** Fluffy and packed with crispy bacon, avocado, and melted jack and cheddar, served with well-browned homestyle potatoes. It was simple and done right. - **Corned beef hash:** Generous shredded corned beef, crispy potatoes, peppers, and onions, topped with melted jack cheese and a perfectly fried egg. - **Awesome omelet:** Loaded with shrimp, crab, scallops, and bacon, served with a giant crispy potato pancake. It's the splurge, and it's worth it. - **Fish tacos:** Grilled mahi piled high with lettuce, pico, and a fan of fresh avocado, with a crisp side salad. Service was friendly and quick even though it was busy, and the wait was well worth it. **Tip:** Weekend mornings get packed, so arrive by 11 and put your name in. Prices are fair for the amount of food, at about $15-20 per entrée. Family-owned since 1988, and it shows. We'll be back.

How do you know you picked the right place to eat? Sometimes you just know before you even walk…read morethrough the door. First, you pull up and see people standing outside waiting for a table. That's usually a pretty good sign. Second, while you're waiting, an older gentleman walks in and is immediately greeted by name. "Good morning, Doug! We'll get you a seat." A few minutes later, I'm sitting at the counter, and who sits down next to me? Doug. Before he can even get settled, his coffee is already being poured. Everyone knows his name, everyone says hello, and you can tell this guy is a regular. When the waitress hands me my menu, she looks over at Doug and says, "You don't need a menu, do you, Doug?" "Nope." "The usual?" "The usual." I love it! At this point, I'm thinking I've definitely picked the right place. Now, I'm sitting at the counter right next to the kitchen's food window, which might be the best and worst seat in the house. I'm watching plate after plate come out. Eggs, hash browns, waffles, pancakes, cinnamon rolls, breakfast sandwiches, and everything in between. It all looks incredible. So what do I order? What I really want is more time and a few extra days to try everything! But I had my eye on the banana nut waffle, so I went with that and a bacon and egg sandwich on an English muffin. The breakfast sandwich came out first, and it was delicious! While I was enjoying it, the waitress told me my waffle would be ready in about two minutes. Since I could actually see the timer on the waffle maker from where I was sitting, I knew she wasn't kidding. Somehow, I timed my sandwich eating perfectly. I took my very last bite, and there it was, my breakfast dessert! Seriously, why don't more breakfast places serve banana nut waffles? They're one of my favorites, and this one did not disappoint. Absolutely delicious! I was so focused on my food that I completely forgot to see what Doug ordered. After all, the staff already knew, so I figured it had to be good. I finally looked over, and he was about halfway through his breakfast. Turns out Doug is a classic breakfast kind of guy. Scrambled eggs, sausage links, hash browns, and toast. Nothing fancy, just a good old-fashioned breakfast. And judging by the way he cleaned his plate, I'd say Doug knows what he's doing. I absolutely love places like this. Great food, friendly staff, a busy atmosphere, and regular customers who are treated more like family. This is exactly the kind of place where I could see myself becoming a regular, just like Doug. Unfortunately, I don't live here, so I'll have to settle for coming back whenever I'm in town. The biggest problem? It's going to be really hard not to order the exact same thing next time because it was THAT good. But I still need to try the stuffed hash browns and that cinnamon roll I kept seeing come out of the kitchen. One last thing. They even sell Don's Country Kitchen T-shirts! I watched two people buy them while I was there. And you know what? I'd proudly sport a Don's Country Kitchen shirt myself if I didn't already have a closet full of T-shirts. Great food, great people, and the kind of neighborhood breakfast spot that makes you wish you lived closer. Doug, if you're reading this, I get it. I'd be a regular too!

The mocha latte was SO good. Nuzz got the Chilaquiles Jalisco and his first ever nitro cold brew. He loved both! My kids ordered chicken and fries, while my daughter got a hamburger, which she really enjoyed. Another thing I liked is that since you pay when you order, once you're finished eating, you can simply leave without having to wait for the check. I also want to give a special thank you to Tiffany, the manager. I accidentally forgot my wallet, and thankfully someone turned it in. Tiffany was extremely helpful and made sure I was able to get it back. I truly appreciate her and the staff at Stratford! I thought, I just might! Pulled over and pulled up the internet and man, this could work out. As I found the place, it was next to a tire shop but it's it own deal. The menu looked great, but I was HUNGRY. 2 items stood out to my taste buds, either the Tuna Melt or the Italian sandwich. I asked the guy at the counter for his recommendation and he (and the lady) both offered their input. I pulled the trigger on the Italian, hot style. When I say that this sandwich slapped, I mean, it hit on at least 5 levels. Every sauce, ingredient, combination was 10/10. The bun was great, the meat was great, the sauces, I mean, I was blown away. I absolutely want to come back hear for a breakfast item. This was an absolute gem of a find. It's family-friendly, but easily works for a date night too. Drinks were alcohol-forward and well made. Mine was similar to a very well-crafted old fashioned. For appetizers, we had the oysters and the pea soup. The oysters were very good, though the greens mixed in made them a bit tricky to swallow whole. The pea soup, on the other hand, was delicious. For mains, my wife had the sea bass and I had the pork schnitzel. My wife raved about the sea bass, saying it tasted a league or two above what the price would suggest. My schnitzel was equally delicious -- perfectly deep-fried, with vegetables on the side that cut nicely through the richness. Price came out to about $85 per person, which felt very reasonable given the quality across the board.
