The restaurant is dated and dusty. The staff seems very attentive and friendly. They do a good job of bussing the tables quickly. They have a wide variety of choices here on the buffet line including crab legs and other sea fare. They also have an a la cart menu if you choose to not partake in the buffet. I was hoping to just do the salad bar but it was not an option. So I didn't eat. My husband ate some beef stir fry dish but not much else did not like most of the food he tried. My cousin barely touched her food, she did enjoy the chicken wings, however the fried wonton filling was very little and not great. The crab legs which is why we came, I was told were not great and very salty. Too bad, not a lot of good buffet spots anymore.

OKKKK, We have lived in the Reno area for over 20 years...My hubby is not much of a fan of buffets, so we never went in there to eat.... It was always busy, so I thought, lots of cars were always there, so it might be good.... I Looked at reviews, they were all over the place....I was out with my friends shoppping today, and we were over at Savers, so we thought we would just go in and check it out, and if it was dirty, we were leaving. We walked inside and I was really blown away, WHY?? I thought it would be greasy, you name it.... It WAS ABSOLUTELY SPOTLESS! WOW! We decided to stay and eat.. That was a great choice! Was it ever!! I started off with egg drop soup and they had sweet and sour soup, it was really good!! We then went to the buffet for our food... SOOO much to pick from , yu start from the right side, grab your plate, so many choices to choose from.. Then to the Appetizers.... Lots of sushi rolls, salad stuff, you name it, they had it.. Egg rolls, Wontons, egg Fu Yung, sweet and sour pork, beef broccoli, sesame balls, fried rice, rice, ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! You can so tell that they care about their food and Customers. Very attentive.. We could not get over how clean this place was.... there was NOT EVEN A fingerprint on the glass above the buffet. Even though there was a drink station in the middle of the restaurant, server came by many times for refills. I was very impressed. I expected the worse and was completely blown away..... I do not eat much at all, my friend I was with , even said, I never , ever see you eat that much. I was like YAYYYYY! I have lost a lot of weight and not usually hungry, this FOOD WAS absolutely AMAZING! DELICIOUS! We will be definitely be going back.... YUMMY! Oh yeah, we finished it off with ice cream, well, it was not really that creamy, it was more chocolate ice, but still really good.... I am really impressed now with place. You can soooooo see these people care about their business and their Customers.. REALLY good food.. I am bringing my family here.... Sooo good... Even my hubby was surprised at how much I ate. Go there, you will not be disappointed ad why I waited so long is beyond me.

Second time eating there. The AC very inconsistent. By the windows blazing hot, near the door cold. Seafood is pretty good and I haven't gotten sick either time that I ate there. I went for the seafood options, crab, shrimp and mussels

Our last visit to King Buffet was two years ago and that experience made us not want to return. Our initial choice was closed, so we decided to dine at King Buffet on Tuesday evening. It was still fairly early, so when we arrived at the restaurant, there were only two other groups of customers. The buffet line was full of food: different kinds fruits and salads, a selection of sushi, fried chicken wings, fries, pizza and donut holes (for the kids I assume), potstickers, egg rolls, baked salmon, salt-and-pepper shrimp, salt-and-pepper crab legs, mussels, chow mien, fried rice, sautéed green beans, stewed mushrooms, seafood stir-fry, beef broccoli, orange chicken, stir-fried mixed vegetables, cashew chicken, butter shrimp, barbecue chicken and a couple more dishes I couldn't identify; plus the whole made-to-order stir-fry section. A couple of people in our party commented that as plentiful as the selection was, the food was kind of bland and unimpressive. I liked the butter shrimp, stewed mushrooms and potstickers the best and went back for seconds. The servers were efficient and polite; overall, we had a fairly average meal but on the whole a more positive experience compared to our last visit.

I'd never been here to this King Buffet in Reno before, but was invited down here from Tahoe where I'm enjoying some down time. It was a Sunday, so they are supposed to have the best spread of food. The price was $22 per person plus tax and some tip. The reviews I saw was not so encouraging, but I've learned to not really trust Yelp reviews when it comes to buffets. Only the people that wanna complain post and the people that liked it, don't bother to post. We arrived right at 11:00 opening, as one should to have the best buffet experience. All the food is new and hot and unmolested by inconsiderate diners, putting food tongs back in the wrong tray or picking out all the beef from the beef and broccoli. Get there first! I thought the food was very good and had a good variety. The snow crab legs were placed deep into the steam tray so you really have to reach and have long arms ... I guess that's so it's harder to get and you don't take as much ... didn't stop us! There was lots of seafood, maybe not top end like a $100 buffet in Vegas, but OK for the price. They even had whole steamed ginger garlic fish, you never see that at most Chinese buffets. Sushi was typical buffet sushi, mostly CA Rolls with some fish on top. All the usual Chinese dishes were there. The chicken wings were super good, I really liked those. The service on the other had was terrible, I'd say even worse than most Chinese buffets where all they do is clear the plates. Here they didn't even do that! We had a pile of at least SIX plates stacked to be cleared at the edge of the table and it was a long time before it was cleared. Servers even walked by and I saw them notice, but did nothing! Water's were never filled either. Well, I'm here for the food, so that's what matters most and it was pretty decent for the price. Just get here here early and not 30 min before closing expecting hot fresh food ... there won't be.

Although most of the reviews on this buffet was pretty negative, surprisingly I had a positive experience after dining at this restaurant. I recently had lunch at the Asian food buffet and overall it was fantastic. Not only were the prices pretty cheap ($18 for lunch on weekends), but the staff was attentive and consistently asked if my table needed refills on our drinks and took dirty plates off. The buffet was clean, the food had a wide variety of choices, ranging from sushi and dim sum to stir-fries and bbq meat with dessert as well. Everything tasted fresh and had a lot of flavor. It was not too busy inside and there were many seatings in the dining area. My final take on this restaurant is that this place surprised me and will become a new go-to spot for a delicious and authentic chinese buffet for lunch or dinner. I highly recommend giving this establishment a try!

The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The ahi tartare portion anywhere else would have been a shareable appetizer. But each person was served a large portion of delicious fresh ahi. Mmmm this course and a glass of wine could be dinner alone any other evening. The soft creamy rich egg custard was hidden under a thick seafood gravy. I really enjoyed this unique dish. The miso black cod is always flaky and delicious. And the crab fried rice it's nestled on also never disappoints. The rich New Zealand stir fried lamb and shiitake mushrooms over pea shoots was a fabulous hearty dish on this chilly March evening. The braised short ribs were so tender no knife was needed, they flaked apart with the fork. And the e mein noodles were perfectly al dente. The dinner wrapped up with a crème brûlée that only Kwok's could pull off - red bean. Creamy smooth. Not overwhelming. The perfect burnt sugar layer on top. The regular menu is just as delicious. Small inside seating area, so recommend always make a reservation. In the summer there's a fabulous patio area out front. Limited street parking.

In case you're not aware, though the name of this restaurant references a specific city in northern China and the menu has dishes from across the country, their specialty is the spicy and numbing cuisine of the Sichuan region. If you've never had this before, when you see dishes listed as spicy, they may be very different from what you're thinking. It's certainly can be a polarizing experience, with many loving this flavor and many not into it at all, but the broad menu makes this a great call for everyone. Now I love dining with others who are familiar because it lets you explore the menu through their eyes and enjoy selections made by others with taste diverse from yours. My friend picked several dishes I would've never noticed or ordered blindly this time, and I'm so happy about that. We enjoyed the cold Woodear or black fungus in chili oil, classic snow pea tips with garlic, as well as the quintessential Sichuan cumin lamb, but the other three dishes we had were 100% new to me. Those included Sichuan snails (unshelled in an oily spicy stir fry), scallops with garlic and vermicelli, and crispy spicy intestines. The snails were a win. These are small and somewhat chewy morsels that get wok fried with fried chili, chili oil, peppers and onions. The texture is similar to sautéed calamari, but a bit firmer, and the sauce coats everything with that signature numbing heat. The scallops were the big miss. This dish typically comes in the half shell with fresh scallops, but here they're using a lower quality scallop (likely frozen) and a lot of pre-minced garlic (like you'd find in a jar). It looks impressive but the scallops had absolutely not flavor and the texture was rubbery too. Skip this one for sure. The intestines were the surprise. I've had fried intestines and they crunch like a chip and have no distinct flavor that lets you know what you're eating. These were sliced on the bias and wok tossed until super crispy on the outside with a delicately chewy interior. The sauce really amplified the flavor and this all made for a great bite within the whole meal. All in all, this is a home run. If you haven't been, I urge you to check it out, as it's one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants around.

Tucked away in the back of an unassuming shopping mall is Chinese cuisine well worth making a trip for. I was immediately greeted when I entered, and started with some hot tea. The intestines came out crispy and piled high with red fried chilis and szechuan peppercorns. I am a huge spice nut and this absolutely hit the spot! (If you have a low spice tolerance you may want to ask for less spicy as the server did not ask how spicy I wanted it). The cucumbers were the perfect accompaniment to balance the heat and numbing from the chilis. When I first looked at the menu, I thought the prices were a bit high. After seeing the enormous portion sizes, it all made perfect sense. There was easily enough for 2 full meals for me (245lb, 6ft3in man with an appetite). The portions are clearly designed to be shared. On that point they also feature traditional Chinese style banquet seating with the lazy suzan in the middle for family style eating. All told I was extremely impressed with the food quality, service, portion sizes and ambiance. I will absolutely be adding Shanghai Bistro to my regular rotation!

We decided to make it our next date night spot. We went on a Friday around 5:30 and it wasn't very crowded yet. They asked if we preferred a table or a booth, and we went with a booth near the front. The restaurant itself is really nice, but I'll say the booth felt a little tight. Next time, we'll probably go with a table for a bit more space. The service was top notch. The staff was incredibly attentive, and our drinks were constantly refilled. Our glasses were never empty, which always stands out. About 15 minutes after we sat down, the place filled up fast. It seemed like most people coming in had reservations, so I'd definitely recommend making one if you're planning to go after 6 pm. We decided on the Shanghai Dinner. I ordered the sweet and sour pork, and my wife got the sweet and sour chicken. I was tempted by the cashew chicken and kung pao chicken, but we'll save those for next time. The appetizers were amazing. The meal comes with spring rolls, crab rangoon, paper wrapped chicken, and honey glazed BBQ spareribs. Everything was delicious. My wife loved the paper wrapped chicken, and for me, the ribs were the standout. They were tender with just the right hint of sweetness. Honestly, I could've eaten a full plate of just those and been happy. For sides, I had the egg flower soup, which was really flavorful, and my wife had the salad. She could not stop talking about how good the dressing was. Both the sweet and sour pork and chicken were great. The sauce had that perfect tangy, slightly sweet flavor. That said, next time we probably won't order the same sauce for both dishes. I think pairing something like sweet and sour with kung pao would give a better balance with a little heat to cut through the sweetness. Overall, this place is a winner. Great food, solid portions, and the price is very reasonable at about $33 per person for the Shanghai Dinner. My wife enjoyed everything so much that after seeing another table order the duck, she's already talking about coming back to try it.
