Met a girlfriend on Friday at 6. Noticed all tables had reserved seating signs, but hostess was able to provide seating. She also mentioned reservations are not required but recommended for weekends after 7pm. Our waitperson was helpful recommending drinks - alcoholic and non, appetizers and a few main dishes. The flower dumplings appear to be their signature appetizer, however they were mediocre - the taste was bland and not much more than if you steamed dumplings at home. The money bags are basically an egg roll in a ball shape. Basic. We shared Panang Curry w shrimp and Drunken Noodles with chicken. The curry dish had a nice flavor but the curry flavor was indistinguishable. The mild drunken noodles had a good flavor and the right amount of spice. The restaurant has about 15 tables inside, high top seating in the bar, and two patio areas. Parking was not that difficult, considering it's on Shepherd - but if you're familiar with the area you already understand the parking. Not sure about other nights, but meeting a friend on Friday night (at 6pm) for a catch up dinner isn't ideal as we felt rushed and was constantly interrupted with questions. My family and I had a reservation for Sat at 11:15 am (right at opening). It quickly filled up after 15-20 minutes. The parking lot complex was busy but I was still able to find decent parking without circling around. This was my 2nd visit but my family had frequently dined at the restaurant. Our server was very kind and helpful with the menu. The decor is very bright and feels modernized. The restroom was very clean. We went all out. For appetizers, we got the chicken satay, chicken wings & papaya salad medium spicy level (definitely hot!) so I couldn't take more than 2 bites but our server did caution us. We ate family style for our main course which included Tom kha soup, crystal noodles with tofu, pad see ew with beef, crab fried rice, green curry with noodles. For dessert, we got the coconut ice cream on top of the pandan sticky rice & mango shaped into a flower. Everything was delicious! You really can't go wrong with any of the dishes. My solo dining experience at Kin Dee was satisfying and entertaining while I was visiting the Houston area for business. I happily sat at the bar with an ideal seat to enjoy the live music throughout the evening. The bartender was friendly and attentive as she slung drinks for the dining room and bar. The Butterfly Pea Margarita was delicate and unique. Plus, the purple tint was a fun aesthetic to keep me entertained as a solo diner. However, the food was the real star! I started with Money Bags which are deep fried with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. I had intended to eat a few and take the rest in a to-go box, but I ended up eating all of the chicken and shrimp filled Money Bags. So good, I couldn't help myself! For the main dish, I ordered Pad Grapow (or as the Kin Dee menu name is... Stir-Fried Thai Basil Chicken) with medium heat and a fried egg. This Basil Chicken was delectable. Again, I could not control myself and ended up clearing my plate completely! The medium heat was just spicy enough for me. The cucumbers on the side of the plate as well as some sips of the Butterfly Pea Margarita were perfect compliments to cut the heat. As a solo diner, I had a wonderful meal and fit right in at Kin Dee. Came here with a friend on a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't busy at all and we were seated right as we walked in. The interior was very pretty and there was live singing so the atmosphere of the restaurant was great! My friend and I ordered the Pad See Ew with pork and the Panang Curry with chicken. They were both $17 which is more expensive than what I usually pay for Thai food. The two dishes were flavorful and I appreciated the waiter for providing chili oil on the side in case we wanted to make it more spicy I'm going to keep this review short because to be honest, there was nothing really that special about what we ordered. If you come here, you're definitely paying for the upscaleness/ambiance but in terms of the food, I don't think there's anything special based on what we ordered for it to justify the price point. However, the service was great and there's a whole cocktail menu that I didn't get to explore so maybe I'd come back to a date night. read more

Haven't been here since the last HRW several years ago because it was kind of so so for the price we paid. Today was much better! The crunchy salad was just that-flavorful, crunchy, and it was kind of addicting. Even my toddler loved the crunch and flavor. The basil chicken was good but damn it was really salty. I needed another serving of rice to cut the salt and my mouth and tongue were all shriveled after eating it. The winner was dessert. The coconut ice cream on the pandan sticky rice and that tasty mango made into a flower was the best I've ever had in this country. Period. Very attentive service and accommodating. Visited again recently. The flower dumplings are definitely still my favorite. Some of their choices are a bit more I guess traditional than you'd see elsewhere in Houston. I feel if you like Thai it is a great step up than others. The service and live entertainment is a great touch. I just feel it's a very classy spot. So glad that the parking for this upscale and and clean Thai food joint is finally fixed. Love that this feels like a place you can bring a newcomer to Thai food and it not scare them off. The menu is approachable with pictures and just enough options for variety but not overwhelming. It's a very Houston heights aesthetic, airy lighting and trendy decor. Our server was very meticulous with explaining all the dishes that were brought out and spelled out how they are traditionally eaten. The food is great, Thai food really is a true comfort cusine. lots of savory sweet options with the ability to turn up the heat for the bold. I think we overhyped ourselves for the experience since we came for HRW. We unfortunately had an underwhelming experience here. To start, we weren't happy with seating arrangements. Half of the tables inside the restaurant are bar stool height. We were seated toward the back corner by the bar despite making a reservation. The high chairs were wobbly and our dishes were dirty (we asked for new ones). We asked what entree options could be made vegetarian: fried rice, glass noodles, and pad thai were the three options, so we opted to try them all. The glass noodle was the only vegetarian option available on the HRW menu, so half of us did HRW and half ordered off the regular menu. Flower dumplings - tasty but dumplings are a smaller than expected. The filling was slightly sweet and nutty with a peanut base. The fried rice and glass noodles were very bland. I also didn't enjoy the large pieces of steamed tomatoes (wish they were cut up smaller and more flavored).. The fried rice also came with fish sauce on the side, which is notable since we asked for vegetarian only options. Pad Thai - I thought pad thai was the best entree we tried. It was the most flavorful. However, the spicy flavor was definitely not thai spice level. Pandan cake - this was my favorite item we tried, a delicious, moist cake without overpowering flavor. Thai tea creme brulee - also delicious Butterfly tea - would go with thai tea next time. This tasted like lightly flavored sugar water, but made for a cool video. Overall don't think I would return. Disclaimer: I am an old school Houstonian, so I am not the biggest fan of these trendy hip restaurants poppin up in gentrified neighborhoods charging over $15-20 for a regular Asian dish. If I had to go to a trendy Thai restaurant though, Kin Dee would be a great option. It's price is in-line with its trend peers in the heights - good vibes, great service, good alcohol selection and decent food. After having this place bookmarked for over a year, finally got to try it with Jason D and Zain R! T'was a truly great time indeed. We came on a Tuesday night and there was a decent crowd. We had a reservation just in case; probably wouldn't have had a problem without one, but I'd recommend having one if coming on a weekend. We started out with drinks. My first one was the Butterfly Pea Margarita, which had silver tequila, cointreau, lime, and butterfly tea, infused with lemongrass syrup. Pretty and delicious! It was a gradient purple with a few flowers to garnish, and once you stir it up, it has the color-change effect. I love me a good marg, and this one was definitely a good one with an Asian fusion twist. For my second drink, I got the Mango Mai Thai, which was made up of rum, pineapple juice, coconut milk, lime juice, and grenadine. I love tiki drinks and this would probably fall in that category, with the creamy twist of coconut milk. NIce and refreshing for a hot day! For appetizers, we started with the famous Thai Flower Dumplings and the Money Bags. The Thai Flower Dumplings are probably what you've seen in the pics - purple dumplings. They were really flavorful inside and even had peanuts in the filling for that extra crunch. I think the purple is just for aesthetics and doesn't have any effect on the flavor. The Money Bags were minced chicken and shrimp wrapped in a wonton wrapper, fried crispy. These were very tasty and HOT! Make sure to wait a minute before biting in to them, and I recommend dipping in the sweet and sour sauce they come with. For entrees, we got the Thai Omelet with Crab Meat, Lump Crab Meat Fried Rice, and Drunken Noodles with chicken. All were excellent and very flavorful. My favorite was the Drunken Noodles, which they made with a smoky flavor on the flat rice noodles, such a great touch! Portions were a good size and great for sharing, as we did family-style. Our service by Lucas was excellent. He came by often to check on us and made sure our waters never went empty. Upon taking our appetizer and food orders, he double-checked and asked if anybody had any sort of food allergies. Smart move, as a good chunk of their dishes have peanuts or shellfish in them. This was a great Thai spot nestled in the Heights. Considering the area, parking was extremely easy, as they have a shared parking lot with adjoining business in the back area. If you're still up for drinks afterwards, you can make the short walk over to neighboring Heights Bier Garden. Definitely recommend checking this place out! read more

Where do I even begin... Andy was THE BEST server that our table could have ever asked for. He quite literally puts the D and Y in speeDY. Andy was so kind, attentive, and always made sure that our experience was truly what Kin Dee Thai could fully offer. Moving onto the food, I personally had the chicken Pad Thai and it was delectable. There was a perfect balance between flavors (more specifically the sweet, spice, and umami components made it so enjoyable to eat). The Pad Thai is covered in a blanket of egg which is so unique and is something I haven't seen before (real cool)! I ALSO LOVE the addition of chili flakes, peanuts, and lime on the side really allows for the customer to customize to their tastes. The price is extremely fair for the area and how much work was put into curating each dish :) The restaurant is absolutely beautiful on the inside, I loved all of the decorations and how the colors worked so well with each other! Restrooms were clean, and the entire vibe of this establishment felt extremely inviting! They also have live music playing AND music on the stereos. Located in Houston's Height Area, Kin Dee is a literally the best Thai place I have been too so far. Funny thing is, Thai is not a "go to" cuisine for me, but I can say that "great taste" is a universal language. I got the Shrimp Shrimp Tom Yum Noodle Soup. The broth was excellent. They have about three options in terms of spice level and I got medium mild and hot for my sides, but my soup spice level was mild. For the appetizer I got the Thai Crispy Shrimp which was also great! Fried to perfection & the shrimp was tender! The customer service was awesome ! Our waitress smile literally never left her face! We stopped in AFTER another thai meal for dessert (mango with sticky rice) and ended up ordering the panang curry and the khao soi. Everything was excellent, better than we even expected. The noodles in the khao soi were perfectly crispy on top and softened in the soup over the course of our meal. Good service, and it also looks like a cute spot for drinks in the evening. I really can't say enough good things about Kin Dee. We've been here a couple of times now, and everything is perfect. The ambience is great, service is super (Miguel and Edwin are especially AWESOME), and everyone is so warm. We have our golden retriever with us and everyone is so friendly to him, it's really sweet. The food, we (and the friends we've come with) all agree is our favorite Thai food ever. The flower dumplings are a must try, and every dish from drunken noodles to green curry to pad Thai to the desserts, mocktails, and whatever else we've tried, were all hits. We were seated outside because there was a large party in the dining area and I think it was some kind of a shower or celebration of some type, so our waiter suggested we sit outside due to the noise. The northern style curry is visually appealing, but is lacking in flavor. You would expect curry to be full of flavor and spices but we got the opposite. It was also close to being lukewarm when we got the dish. As for the Tiger Cry, it was just a typical steak. The sauce that came with the dish didn't elevate the steak too much unfortunately. Both were good and presented nicely. The Pad Thai was wrapped in egg, like an omelette, to keep the noodles fresh. It's definitely picture worthy if you're into that. And there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, so you have options. Just moved to the area and tried this Thai restaurant and its name translates "Good Eat" and its sister restaurant Markiin at the Hanover (still have not made it there yet due my lack of getting well dressed enough for this location). My first two dined in was good to my surprise because the dishes were prepared with good ingredients and extremely simple recipes. I am a chef and I knew how the dishes prepared. However, the last time I had to order Togo because lack of time and I was extremely disappointed. Something changed and my home dining experience was ruined. I have asked for fresh Thai chili to be complimented with my papaya salad, which I have always had while dining in and I reiterate that this must come with my Popeye salad and they failed to put it in on top of that the portion was extremely small, completely from whatever I had at the restaurant I called and expressed my grievance and the man said that is gonna be our portion going forward which is 23 bites of papaya salad. This is unacceptable as a Thai/Lao person, papaya salad is the main course not a salad. Over all the food is a C minus because of the cleanliness but taste it to Real Thai food. Tried this cute spot with my sister. I loved the atmosphere and energy of all the employees. Almost everyone genuinely greeted us and welcomed us to the restaurant. Sunny, the bartender, was entertaining and attentive. We arrived for happy hour and sat at the bar because we did not have a reservation. The seats looked uncomfortable, but surprisingly they were not. They offer 20% off the entire menu for Happy Hour. We beverages, we ordered Saneh Jan and the Butterfly Pea Margarita. They were both excellent, but I preferred the Saneh Jan because it was sweeter. If you are looking for tequila and don't like sweet drinks, then order the Butterfly. For appetizers, we ordered the money bags, and they were fried to perfection. The grilled pork skewers were delicious and flavorful. The Thai flower dumplings were not only aesthetically appealing to the eye, but they were excellent. Slightly sticky on the outside and crunchy inside. We were told to eat them with the pepper and cilantro, and I loved it. I wanted more but also wanted to try other dishes. For our entrees, we ordered Crab Fried Rice and Pad Thai. They were both excellent. Some of the best-fried rice I tried in a long time. It had the largest pieces of lump crab meat. Typically crab fried rice has backfin or claw meat mixed in the rice. Not here. There were large sections of lump crab meat throughout the dish. The Pad Thai was flavorful and uniquely presented. It wasn't the best I've had, but it was good. I give five stars to my dessert, Mango Sticky Rice. The presentation was excellent, the mangos were sweet, and the sticky rice was perfect--the right amount of sweetness. All in all, I loved this restaurant and will return. I'm only giving them a four because they only had QR menus. I know it's the wave of the future, but I don't like it. I don't want to come to a restaurant and have to use my phone to see the menu. read more
