The food was delicious and service was great. My Penang curry was the best I have had.

This authentic Thai restaurant earns five stars from me! We had an awesome dining experience and can't wait to go back for more. If you're looking for delicious and modern Thai food, this is where you want to bookmark. The atmosphere is modern and chill, with plenty of parking connected to other restaurant spaces. We had a reservation and the hostess quickly sat us. We went for a birthday lunch and they made the birthday gal feel special with the cute table decor and greeting. We had their northern style green curry, shrimp tom yum noodle soup, and Thai tea creme brulee. The green curry had generous amounts of tender chicken, flavorful veggies like eggplant, zucchini, bamboo shoots, and basil leaves. It was very creamy and smooth...I soaked up every drop with the rice noodles. The shrimp tom yum noodle soup was one of the best I've had in Houston! Also with a handful of shrimp, it was a generous portion that was well executed in a broth that was boldly hot and sour...just the way it should be. Our server did give us an option for mild, medium, hot, or extra hot and we had the medium for both curry and noodle soup. It tasted wonderful since we could still taste the flavor of our food without it the heat taking over the flavor. The Thai tea creme brulee was such a delightful way to end the meal. If you like tea flavors this is for you! The surface was nice and crisp from the caramelized sugar. So yum! Would come back in a heart beat. Great service and delicious food. read more

Love this place come here all the time with my family and the food is amazing! Highly recommend

Service ranges from piss poor to mediocre. They do have a lot of outdoor seating (no heaters though). Silverware rolls smell stale (I eat out 365 days a year. Even mom and pop hole in the walls don't have musty smelling napkins.) It stinks of the nail salon next door. If you have any sort of sensitivity to chemical smells, don't come here. read more

Kin Dee - This is a $20 portion. How can this be the regular size of Panang Curry? - Thai Near Me - Houston, Texas

Restaurant is located in a strip mall. You cannot see it from the road and have to go into the parking lot that is in the middle of the buildings. It is located at the end of the strip mall. We came in during lunch on a Saturday and was seated right away. Restaurant is nicely decorated. Have marble like tables There have TV showing different Thai food. They also had a live singer to enjoy while having your meal. We started with the money bags and papaya salad. The money bags were one of their popular appetizers. It came out hot and outside wrapper was crispy. It's was a good start. Next we ordered the papaya salad. Portion is a bit small... green papaya is inexpensive. You can see from the picture, half cabbage, half papaya salad. What we typically see is 80/20'or 70/30z. Taste-wise, it was well done. One of the better papaya salad.. wish there was more of it. For our entrees, we had the northern Thai curry with chicken bone-in. Thought it was a nice touch to have the bone-in option. It's like red curry for me. It was ok. We also tried the crab egg omelette. Not as much flavor as our server told use but it did come with a sweet sriracha sauce that complements it. You can see and taste the crab chunk inside the omelette. Highlight for us was the dessert... mango sticky rice. Not much of a sticky rice eater but this is one of the best ones we've had. Sweet and creamy. Comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream along with ripe mangoes. As others have commented, they are on the pricier side for Thai food give the smaller portions. No complaints on the service...staff was attentive. We also order rice with the curry but came out with noodles. They quickly rectified it without asking and gave us a side of rice. Overall, thought the food was decent. If we ever crave for mango sticky rice again, we now know where to go! read more

A hip Thai place on north Shepard. Menu is short, but i don't find that a disadvantage at all as there was something for anything you would want and it is high quality food. They the 'base' dishes for the variety , and allow you to choose whatever protein you want and pretty much pick the spice level. So really what looks to be a short menu is in practice a lot more varied. Cocktails menu is good , maybe about a dozen specialties and the wine menu had a good mix of California and , remarkably but puzzling for. Thai place, a lot of French red. I had flower dumplings (shared at table), Crunchy Salad and the Drunken Noodes with Shrimp, medium spice. All good. But. It all came so fast. The starters beat my cocktail out by 5 minutes or so which i find irritating. The starters i think should have been broadcast as 'for two' as while very good, they were very very large. And as the starters were finished, even an attempt tp clear mine while still working on it, the mains arrived - also very large. Maybe normal here in Houston, but i still find it irritating. Not much time to breath between plates. I think we had the check on the table after 40minutes. It's a small place and i guess they were trying to turn tables fast. I think i will go back, but not Sat night dinner, and not even order starts until after cocktails and main until done with starter just to slow it down. read more

Kin Dee - Celebratory dinner - Thai Near Me - Houston, Texas

What can I say about Kin Dee? I've been here multiple times and every time I'm reminded of how this is literally one of my favorite restaurants in Houston! I had the green curry chicken - just wow! So delicious - the noodles, the curry, the chicken and veggies. Incredibly fresh, light and flavorful. My boyfriend had the cashew chicken and couldn't stop talking about how good it was! It was our friends birthday and she absolutely had to have the mango sticky rice. She shared and that was also great! The ice cream was lactose free - made of coconut milk and the rice was sweet and sticky! Overall, always a great experience. The owners really put a lot of effort into everything and you can tell. Even the silverware is from Thailand! The staff was super friendly and I love the interior. They also had a live singer there on a Sunday afternoon. If you love Thai food, this is a must try! read more

Kin Dee is an upscale and trendy Thai food restaurant that is a little bit more on the pricier side. They currently offer buy one, get one 50% off on their featured cocktails during happy hour (5PM-6:30PM on Mondays through Fridays). On the weekends, they also have live music. The inside of the restaurant is very beautiful including the presentation of the dishes. They offer indoor and outdoor seating which includes heat lamps for when it gets colder outside. I went with a group of friends and ate all of the dishes family style. The "All in One" was a great appetizer to share with our group of four. It provided a large variety of their appetizers for us to all try. As for the entrees, we got the Panang Curry, Pad Thai, and the Shrimp Tom Yum soup. The pad thai comes wrapped in an omelet and has crushed peanuts and pepper flakes on the side to adjust the level of spice. My favorite dish was the Shrimp Tom Yum soup which came with rice noodles, but I also used some of the rice from the Panang Curry to eat the soup with. There's also a wide selection of cocktails which were all enjoyable. Overall, the food and drinks are good but are pretty overpriced. Kin Dee would be a great place to go to for a date or to celebrate an occasion, but for the price point, I wouldn't come here frequently. read more

So yum!! Loved the pad see ew, northern style curry, and tom yum. Chicken was super tender.

This is our favorite spot for Thai food in Houston. How lucky are we that it's sitting in The Heights? The food is fresh and so flavorful. We enjoy eating in the restaurant with great service and delicious cocktails, but also enjoy takeout and eating at home. Granted, it's not the cheapest - but the quality is well worth it. read more

Met a girlfriend on Friday at 6. Noticed all tables had reserved seating signs, but hostess was able to provide seating. She also mentioned reservations are not required but recommended for weekends after 7pm. Our waitperson was helpful recommending drinks - alcoholic and non, appetizers and a few main dishes. The flower dumplings appear to be their signature appetizer, however they were mediocre - the taste was bland and not much more than if you steamed dumplings at home. The money bags are basically an egg roll in a ball shape. Basic. We shared Panang Curry w shrimp and Drunken Noodles with chicken. The curry dish had a nice flavor but the curry flavor was indistinguishable. The mild drunken noodles had a good flavor and the right amount of spice. The restaurant has about 15 tables inside, high top seating in the bar, and two patio areas. Parking was not that difficult, considering it's on Shepherd - but if you're familiar with the area you already understand the parking. Not sure about other nights, but meeting a friend on Friday night (at 6pm) for a catch up dinner isn't ideal as we felt rushed and was constantly interrupted with questions. Definitely a churn and burn seating environment. Our tab - 1 drink pp + the items mentioned - was $102. Personally a tad high for basic Thai food, but you're paying for the location. read more

My family and I had a reservation for Sat at 11:15 am (right at opening). It quickly filled up after 15-20 minutes. The parking lot complex was busy but I was still able to find decent parking without circling around. This was my 2nd visit but my family had frequently dined at the restaurant. Our server was very kind and helpful with the menu. The decor is very bright and feels modernized. The restroom was very clean. We went all out. For appetizers, we got the chicken satay, chicken wings & papaya salad medium spicy level (definitely hot!) so I couldn't take more than 2 bites but our server did caution us. We ate family style for our main course which included Tom kha soup, crystal noodles with tofu, pad see ew with beef, crab fried rice, green curry with noodles. For dessert, we got the coconut ice cream on top of the pandan sticky rice & mango shaped into a flower. Everything was delicious! You really can't go wrong with any of the dishes. Came here with a friend on a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't busy at all and we were seated right as we walked in. The interior was very pretty and there was live singing so the atmosphere of the restaurant was great! My friend and I ordered the Pad See Ew with pork and the Panang Curry with chicken. They were both $17 which is more expensive than what I usually pay for Thai food. The two dishes were flavorful and I appreciated the waiter for providing chili oil on the side in case we wanted to make it more spicy I'm going to keep this review short because to be honest, there was nothing really that special about what we ordered. If you come here, you're definitely paying for the upscaleness/ambiance but in terms of the food, I don't think there's anything special based on what we ordered for it to justify the price point. However, the service was great and there's a whole cocktail menu that I didn't get to explore so maybe I'd come back to a date night. read more

My solo dining experience at Kin Dee was satisfying and entertaining while I was visiting the Houston area for business. I happily sat at the bar with an ideal seat to enjoy the live music throughout the evening. The bartender was friendly and attentive as she slung drinks for the dining room and bar. The Butterfly Pea Margarita was delicate and unique. Plus, the purple tint was a fun aesthetic to keep me entertained as a solo diner. However, the food was the real star! I started with Money Bags which are deep fried with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. I had intended to eat a few and take the rest in a to-go box, but I ended up eating all of the chicken and shrimp filled Money Bags. So good, I couldn't help myself! For the main dish, I ordered Pad Grapow (or as the Kin Dee menu name is... Stir-Fried Thai Basil Chicken) with medium heat and a fried egg. This Basil Chicken was delectable. Again, I could not control myself and ended up clearing my plate completely! The medium heat was just spicy enough for me. The cucumbers on the side of the plate as well as some sips of the Butterfly Pea Margarita were perfect compliments to cut the heat. As a solo diner, I had a wonderful meal and fit right in at Kin Dee. I would have loved to share it with some friends, so this will be on my list to revisit and share the flavors with others. read more

I did not visit Kin Dee because their menu does not have anything my special diet will allow. However, the food looked good.

Visited again recently. The flower dumplings are definitely still my favorite. Some of their choices are a bit more I guess traditional than you'd see elsewhere in Houston. I feel if you like Thai it is a great step up than others. The service and live entertainment is a great touch. I just feel it's a very classy spot. The construction on the road hopefully isn't messing with customer base too much. Plenty of parking. read more

So glad that the parking for this upscale and and clean Thai food joint is finally fixed. Love that this feels like a place you can bring a newcomer to Thai food and it not scare them off. The menu is approachable with pictures and just enough options for variety but not overwhelming. It's a very Houston heights aesthetic, airy lighting and trendy decor. Our server was very meticulous with explaining all the dishes that were brought out and spelled out how they are traditionally eaten. The food is great, Thai food really is a true comfort cusine. lots of savory sweet options with the ability to turn up the heat for the bold. Did the flower dumplings and pork skewers to start, and had a pretty yummy Thai Basil Chicken that was a good portion. Medium spicy level wasn't too inyour face. TL/DR; a welcome elevated Thai experience that is worth a couple visits! read more

Disclaimer: I am an old school Houstonian, so I am not the biggest fan of these trendy hip restaurants poppin up in gentrified neighborhoods charging over $15-20 for a regular Asian dish. If I had to go to a trendy Thai restaurant though, Kin Dee would be a great option. It's price is in-line with its trend peers in the heights - good vibes, great service, good alcohol selection and decent food. After having this place bookmarked for over a year, finally got to try it with Jason D and Zain R! T'was a truly great time indeed. We came on a Tuesday night and there was a decent crowd. We had a reservation just in case; probably wouldn't have had a problem without one, but I'd recommend having one if coming on a weekend. We started out with drinks. My first one was the Butterfly Pea Margarita, which had silver tequila, cointreau, lime, and butterfly tea, infused with lemongrass syrup. Pretty and delicious! It was a gradient purple with a few flowers to garnish, and once you stir it up, it has the color-change effect. I love me a good marg, and this one was definitely a good one with an Asian fusion twist. For my second drink, I got the Mango Mai Thai, which was made up of rum, pineapple juice, coconut milk, lime juice, and grenadine. I love tiki drinks and this would probably fall in that category, with the creamy twist of coconut milk. NIce and refreshing for a hot day! For appetizers, we started with the famous Thai Flower Dumplings and the Money Bags. The Thai Flower Dumplings are probably what you've seen in the pics - purple dumplings. They were really flavorful inside and even had peanuts in the filling for that extra crunch. I think the purple is just for aesthetics and doesn't have any effect on the flavor. The Money Bags were minced chicken and shrimp wrapped in a wonton wrapper, fried crispy. These were very tasty and HOT! Make sure to wait a minute before biting in to them, and I recommend dipping in the sweet and sour sauce they come with. For entrees, we got the Thai Omelet with Crab Meat, Lump Crab Meat Fried Rice, and Drunken Noodles with chicken. All were excellent and very flavorful. My favorite was the Drunken Noodles, which they made with a smoky flavor on the flat rice noodles, such a great touch! Portions were a good size and great for sharing, as we did family-style. Our service by Lucas was excellent. He came by often to check on us and made sure our waters never went empty. Upon taking our appetizer and food orders, he double-checked and asked if anybody had any sort of food allergies. Smart move, as a good chunk of their dishes have peanuts or shellfish in them. This was a great Thai spot nestled in the Heights. Considering the area, parking was extremely easy, as they have a shared parking lot with adjoining business in the back area. If you're still up for drinks afterwards, you can make the short walk over to neighboring Heights Bier Garden. Definitely recommend checking this place out! read more

Haven't been here since the last HRW several years ago because it was kind of so so for the price we paid. Today was much better! The crunchy salad was just that-flavorful, crunchy, and it was kind of addicting. Even my toddler loved the crunch and flavor. The basil chicken was good but damn it was really salty. I needed another serving of rice to cut the salt and my mouth and tongue were all shriveled after eating it. The winner was dessert. The coconut ice cream on the pandan sticky rice and that tasty mango made into a flower was the best I've ever had in this country. Period. Very attentive service and accommodating. They had a nice band playing music. Kept my toddler entertained and he loved the colors and pictures everywhere. read more

I think we overhyped ourselves for the experience since we came for HRW. We unfortunately had an underwhelming experience here. To start, we weren't happy with seating arrangements. Half of the tables inside the restaurant are bar stool height. We were seated toward the back corner by the bar despite making a reservation. The high chairs were wobbly and our dishes were dirty (we asked for new ones). We asked what entree options could be made vegetarian: fried rice, glass noodles, and pad thai were the three options, so we opted to try them all. The glass noodle was the only vegetarian option available on the HRW menu, so half of us did HRW and half ordered off the regular menu. Flower dumplings - tasty but dumplings are a smaller than expected. The filling was slightly sweet and nutty with a peanut base. The fried rice and glass noodles were very bland. I also didn't enjoy the large pieces of steamed tomatoes (wish they were cut up smaller and more flavored).. The fried rice also came with fish sauce on the side, which is notable since we asked for vegetarian only options. Pad Thai - I thought pad thai was the best entree we tried. It was the most flavorful. However, the spicy flavor was definitely not thai spice level. Pandan cake - this was my favorite item we tried, a delicious, moist cake without overpowering flavor. Thai tea creme brulee - also delicious Butterfly tea - would go with thai tea next time. This tasted like lightly flavored sugar water, but made for a cool video. Overall don't think I would return. Maybe better for non-vegetarian food. read more
