As you can see from my previous review I'm a loyal a constant customer of Kimganae. But I literally ordered the same exact thing I always ordered the mild tteokbeokki with cheese (see pictures from before) and they gave me this. Still customer service was pretty good but they insisted this was extra mild and wanted us to "try it". It was too sweet and had absolute no spice which defeats the "spicy rice cake" idea. I also got the oden soup which was average for a $9 dollar dish and the beef roll which is still the same as I remember it. The total came out to $36.47 before tip. Anyhow, hope to update this more positively. read more

If you're looking for solid Korean food in the downtown Flushing area, Kimganae hits the spot. Like most spots in Flushing, this place won't break the bank. However, as one of the few Korean spots in the downtown area (aside from kbbq or Korean fried chicken), this fast casual place is always crowded/bustling. As a group of four, we were seated promptly during Sunday lunch, and were given complementary soup + spicy pickled radish to start off with. One of my friends is a huge fan of their soup and often asks for seconds (and thirds). We ended up ordering three things to share: kimchi fried rice, kimbap and spicy rice cakes & ramen with cheese on top. The kimchi fried rice is always one of our favorites and hits the spot everytime. For the price point and being in the main Flushing area, would definitely recommend. However, if you were looking to do a group bigger than 4, you might have some trouble getting a table. read more

After many years, I decided to finally pay a visit to one of the many spots my mom took me to growing up. Since the pandemic, they have made many changes inside and outside. Their outdoor seating is large with quite a few tables and the inside appears to be updated with a modern touch. When I visited with my sister, it was pretty empty and we were quick to be seated. Surprisingly, we had to wait a considerable amount of time for water even though we were the only ones there and we had to ask for our orders to be taken. We ordered the Cheese Pork Cutlet (5/5) the pork belly was thick and juicy and the sauce they used wasn't too sweet or salty with the right amount of tang. The fresh corn and mini salad on the side really helps with cutting the greasiness of the dish as well. Their portions are massive and can easily share with two people. The fish cake udon (4/5) was pretty good as well, the soup they used tastes the same as the soup they give complimentary but stronger. The soup in this dish was noticeably saltier than what we were served but didn't ruin the dish. The dish was pretty simple, udon, soup, and fishcakes with a few sprinkles of crown daisies at the stop. Overall, my experience certainly tops my previous time here but the service was a bit slow... I love trying all types of cuisines and I have been wanting to try Korean cuisine. With the pandemic my search came to a halt! Finally in stage 3 of reopening while trying out a new eyelash place a friend recommended (Miu Miu Lashes) I found this place and it was worth the wait! The food was absolutely divine. I ordered the Omelete Rice and tuna roll. They were both delicious. If you are looking for great Korean dishes give this place a try! Since the last time I visited, this place has gone under a renovation. No longer are the walls neon green, now it has a modern cafe vibe to it. Apparently the menu has been revamped as well (at least the kimbap rolls). I still remember the good old days when a roll was only $5 and now it's $7.50 for a beef roll. I noticed that the kimbap lady who always made the best rolls was no longer there and that was fine until I realized the quality of the rolls were also no longer the same. When did they add sesame leaves to the roll's recipe? I wasn't really fond of the almost perfume like flavor is added to my roll. And then when I tried to pick up just one piece, I realized the roll wasn't cut properly so by trying to just pick up one piece the rest of the roll just sort of unraveled because they were all connected on the bottom. This was seriously the first time I brought a roll from here and had this problem...well at least it made it easy to pick out the seame leaf. This used to be my go to place for rolls but if the quality has changed I don't know if I'll return. read more

Kimganae has undergone a few makeovers and the interior is much more modern now, but the cozy seating and great food hasn't changed in years. It doesn't come with the typical array of banchan (side dishes) but you are served a small bowl of clear (anchovy-based?) broth and some radish kimchi. We ordered: Eel kimbap- always a staple order to share and the addition of perilla leaf adds a yummy nutty flavor. Spicy cream ddukbokki- good amount of spice tamed by the cream sauce and the dduk is nice and chewy. We got the ramyun addition and you can't go wrong with the rabokki combo! I came here on a recommendation from a friend and Im so glad she suggested this place! The restaurant is a bit small but it has a good amount of seating. I came with a friend mid afternoon and we were seated right away. The people were really friendly and they constantly came by to refill water or to check in on us. We had ordered the Spicy Tuna Triangle Rolls which were made fresh. For my main dish, i ordered the Spicy Cream Dukbokki. It was really good! Just be careful though because even after waiting for the dish to cool down, it was still VERY hot and i burned my tongue but it was worth it! Shortly after making my order, a party of two entered to do an eat-in. I saw that there are Hispanic servers as it is usual in New York. The restaurant specializes in Korean street foods such as kimbap rolls to tteokbokki spicy rice cakes. Western food items are much more expensive than Korean items. The menu is printed in Korean, Simplified Chinese, and English. I ordered a beef kimbap and inari combo and a spicy beef triangle roll. I have dined at Kimganae a bunch of times and haven't had a terrible experience. They offer simple Korean comfort foods such as kimbap rolls, noodles, soups, and huge rice dishes. You'll get daikon kimchi and soup to start off. I usually get the beef or tuna kimbaps here. I also have tried the kimchi fried rice and the rice cake & dumplings soup as well. I did noticed that the prices increased by $1-$2 compared to last year tho. The service is pretty attentive and they will refill the soup if you want. I really like that they accept credit cards, but you'll have to pay tip in cash. The restaurant is small. It's best to come alone, in pairs, or groups of four. The wait for a table could be 10 minutes or so during peak dining times. But, if you're in a rush then you can definitely do takeout. read more

I come here all the time for kimbap - they're made quickly and are quality-made. My top two favorite are the spicy tuna and the bulgogi kimbap. The spicy tuna is cooked tuna that has a kick to it. The bulgogi is a general go to if I'm not feeling up for tuna or if I want something different but they both have the yellow daikon and carrots. The pricing is also rather reasonable. I ordered the curry pork katsu. It came out quite quickly. I like that they give you about a bowl's worth of rice but A LOT of pork katsu. 2 big slices of it, mixed with the corn and salad on the side makes it a lot of food for $14. The curry was good, made the pork flavor really shine. Just a good amount of rice where I had plenty of pork left after my rice. a pandemic re-review! decided to take a break from cooking and grabbed Kimganae for lunch instead. i called and got my faves: spicy tuna roll and curry pork cutlet (comes with salad, rice, corn). the takeout also came with complimentary soup and daikon kimchi, like you would if you were dining in. the spicy tuna roll was just as tasty as i remembered, it was nicely seasoned with a hint of spiciness and i could taste the bright, herbaceous-ness of the shiso leaves. portion size was decent too. as for the curry pork cutlet, they packed the curry sauce and the pork cutlet separately so that the pork doesn't get soggy. i was also pleasantly surprised that there were TWO cutlets (didn't remember that was the case) and tried a few bites with the rice and curry sauce. it was pretty hearty and comforting. during this time, they're open for indoor and outdoor dining, takeout, and delivery on most 3rd party apps (ubereats, grubhub, doordash, etc.); but i'd still recommend ordering directly with them. service is friendly and efficient, no complaints at all. will continue to go back again and again. read more

Still, there's lots of different options of food and it's fairly priced. A great casual restaurant to have lunch and dinner with friends. I've been coming here for several years now - I used to come with my friends when we were in high school. It would be super crowded during lunch hours. Kimganae has gained popularity over the years as being a Flushing staple and the prices have gone up. They've also renovated the place, making the interior look more modern. I've recently been ordering delivery from them due to COVID, but they also offer outdoor seating and takeout. They give complimentary clear miso soup and radish kimchi. My recommendations include Kimchi Fried Rice, any of the Kimbaps, Udon, Dukbokki, and Omelette Rice. The freshly-made kimbaps are delicious and they fill them with more ingredients rather than rice. Their food is very flavorful and satisfies my cravings for Korean food. The only entrees I probably wouldn't get from here are the ramen dishes. They're basically just store-bought ramen with some add-ons and toppings that you could make yourself at home for a lot cheaper. Overall, I love this classic Korean restaurant. This place is my go-to whenever I'm in flushing. I love their Kim Bap! My favorite is probably the Spicy Tuna roll but the Spicy Beef, Squid, and Pork Cutlet are really delicious too. I've tried their tteukbokki and bibimbap which were also yumz. Just a heads up that the bibimbap was vegetarian but super filling! I saw that they had lunch special pricing on their menu from 12-2p and I just so happened to come here a little after noon the other day, but when I ordered I didn't get the lunch special pricing. The servers were very patient with us and gave us more than enough time to figure out what to order given that it was my first time here with my friend. Food was great in general, we got the omelet rice which was super good. The gimbap on the other hand was a little underwhelming. It was mostly filling with egg and the sausage looks like the fish sausage you would buy that comes individually package. Everything was still great though! I always get their tuna cheese kimbap and their dukbokki with cheese. Too good! I prefer their dukbokki to Yupdduk because it's a little sweeter, has more flavor and the rice cakes are softer. I also recently tried their kimchi pizza katsu and it was amazing! Can't go wrong with anything from here really. Just simple and good Korean comfort food.
