Delicious food, helpful staff, cute little hole in the wall. When I walked in, I was greeted by the guy running the front and he let me sit wherever. He was friendly and made me feel welcome. I got the Japchae and veggie potstickers. It was a large portion of food for a fair price, considering this is in Ballard. The flavors in the Japchae were heavenly! And the potstickers were perfectly crispy on the outside and fresh inside. The restaurant doesn't have a good parking situation, so finding a spot on the side streets around it is the best option. They have hot tea and water for you to get yourself, and the tea was a barley non-caff that was honestly perfect for the meal. Overall, major recommendation. Great Korean food. read more

Best kimchi soup (kimchi jigae) in town and one of the best hot stone bibimbap too! The interesting thing about this place is that they seasoned the soup and tofu so so well that is not really the standard I have had everywhere else. There is something else to the soup taste other than just kimchi and pork. You can taste it immediately and yet it is subtle. Same as the hot stone bibimbap, I got tofu. Usually it is just the plain tofu everywhere else that has no flavor but this place sautéed the tofu before serving the bibimbap. Banchan is not as many as other places but I am in love with the cucumber and radish banchan they have and got refills 3 times! We will come back for sure. May even be biweekly. I've been to a few Korean restaurants and they tend to be pricy. This place is reasonably priced and great portion that I always have some leftover. Their kimchi fries are amazing with the mix of cheese and kimchi on top of freshly fried potato fries; you can tell because it still has the crisp when delivered. I love their pork belly fried rice but the second time we ordered it, the pork belly was a bit overcooked and hardened (over charred) so a bit disappointing. The weather is getting cold so we got the Kimchi Soondubu soup with pork and it was packed with ingredients/amazing flavors without being overpowered by taste of kimchi. The order is usually completed within 30 minutes and the food always taste fresh; would recommend and order again in the future. read more

This is the best Korean food we've had in the Seattle area. It's literal food crack. There are other Korean restaurants about the area that give you a finer dining experience, and the prices are much higher.. but the food isn't as good! I cannot control myself in this place. I order extra to take home and munch on later. I have late night cravings for Kimchee House. We drive from Lake Stevens to eat there. That should give you an idea of how good the food is. They serve stone pot bi bim bap, my favorite! Most things come with ban Chan if you're dining in. If not, you can just ask! I would consider this a hole in the wall and one of my favorite finds in Ballard. We've been going to kimchi house for years and there's always a familiar face working the register. Highly recommend! Pleasantly surprised with this spot. It is a decent sized portion amount for the price. The Korean food is not the most authentic/best Korean food I have ever had in my life, but I do think it is good, and they surely get attention from the area because I don't believe there is other Korean restaurants nearby. What they do well is: very kind and patient staff, customer service, accessibility of sauce, tea, water, utensils, *(this restaurant is a little bit self-serve- you order at the front, and grab your own silverware) they also do a decent job of getting the food out to you pretty quickly and with fresh hot plates. They are clean, and they have a nice atmosphere. What they could work on: no parking! I think that it would be really nice to have a few spots specifically reserved for them. The flavors were authentic and tasty. The bulgolgi was sweet and thinly sliced for ease of chewing. This was mainly a self service place where you would bust your own table. I was so excited to try this place. Unfortunately, most of our entrees tasted awful -- colorless, flavorless, and, overcooked. I don't understand why they would serve us bland dishes with overcooked food, including way over done egg, boiled, pickled cucumbers, and finally, rice burnt till it is completely black, far beyond the tasty, charred, browned socarrat that we were expecting. We added sauces to our dishes, but they did not help. It was especially frustrating as the meat itself, fries, sake, and customer service, were all good. There was no one to greet us when we entered so we sat ourselves down. You have to go up to the cashier to order. There's a menu displayed on the wall or you can grab a menu up front. This place is self-served. You grab your own chopsticks, sauce, napkins, etc, and help yourself to their complimentary tea too! My boyfriend and I ordered the Kimchi Fries and Kimchi Fried Rice with pork belly. Did not know that these dishes both contained onions. We don't like onions (I know I know, it's shocking), so I had to pick them out. Wish they had mention that in their description for non-onion lovers. Fries - Shoestring fries topped with sautéed kimchi, cheddar cheese, sour cream, and gochujang mayo. Pretty good and you get a nice portion size, especially for the price. Fries were a bit flimsy, wish they were crispier and cut thicker (I like them THICC). Fried rice - Delicious! Terrific flavor and such a filling dish. You can choose your protein of either pork, chicken, or tofu. I loved the small chunks of grilled pork belly mixed in the fried rice, really nice and tender. Comes with a fried egg on top and that really made the dish even better. Would definitely get this again. Had some of my friend's banchan and it was pretty good. Just your standard banchan and for the price they provide a respectable amount and variety of it, as well as steamed rice, that are served when ordering their entrees. Fairly cheap but solid food. Such a delightful surprise to find good Korean food in Seattle. My girlfriend discovered this place on yelp as I visited her from CA and wow this place has so much to offer despite how small it is. The place is actually quite tricky to find while driving since the sign is covered by the trees, but trust me it's worth it. My girlfriend and I ordered the Beef Bibimbap, Kalbi meal, and Pork Belly Kimchi Fried Rice which tasted even more amazing than it looks. The Beef Bibimbap is a decent size bowl with bulgogi, lots of different veggies over rice and topped with a fried egg. I love how the rice at the bottom is nice and crispy so when you mix it all together, you get the different textures, sweet and savory flavors from the meat and veggies, and some spice if you add the spicy gochujang sauce. The Kalbi was cooked perfectly! Nice and grilled, super juicy and tender with a ton of flavor! I personally like mine more meaty since I don't like just eating fat which was great! There was a decent amount of slices (6-8 pieces), but for $12.95 you're really not getting a massive deal. The Pork Belly Kimchi Fried Rice was soooo yummy! Every bite definitely had that distinct kimchi flavor and there was lots of meat which was awesome! Overall, the food was bomb, the staff was very friendly, pricing was fair, and there's also free tea. Thank you Yelp search for saving the day. I needed to bring a Korean dish to a potluck, but ran out of time to shop for ingredients and cook. I was surprised to find Kimchi House nearby in Ballard and that it was open on a Sunday (many Korean shops are closed on Sunday's). I ordered three orders of jap chae and an order of kimchee chicken fried rice and kimchee pork belly fried rice. Thinking the servings would be small portions, I was wrong. Serving size was decent and a good thing too. Everyone at the pot luck complemented how good and flavorful the dishes were. I'm now a fan and will definitely return to dine in next time. read more

Right now Kimchi House is only doing take out. We called in our order and within 15-20 mins our order was ready. The restaurant is located a few blocks up from the busy Market St. so parking was easy to find. We ordered the seafood soondubu and kalbi. Woohoo! What a great find in Ballard! We've been looking for places that serve Korean food! The closest Korean restaurant to our place on Green Lake closed, so we were looking for another option. Of course, I did a search on Yelp and found this place. It's a small restaurant. The menu is on the board above the counter. There is also a small selection of beer. And the fridge has containers of homemade kimchee. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Utensils, condiments, tea and water are self serve. You can also bus your table. I had the Kalbi dinner which came with a lot of Kalbi short ribs, rice, Kim chee, sukju namul (seasoned bean sprouts) and a green salad with a sesame oil dressing. My hubby had the stone pot bibimbap with beef, and he said its one of the better ones he's had! One thing to note, they do not serve ban chan as you would expect from a Korean restaurant. But overall, we like this place! We'll definitely keep it on the list when we crave Korean! read more

My husband and I have been craving Korean and this place popped up on places nearby. This little restaurant is just that, little. There's not a lot of seating space so it can fill up real quick. You order and pay first at the register (along with tip which I thought was a little weird seeing as you serve yourself), and then you seat yourself. They offer complimentary water and tea. Now here's where it gets a little disappointing. I'm used to Korean places having banchan given (with refills) during every meal. However, at this restaurant, the banchan is only given with certain dishes. I ordered a kalbi plate and my husband ordered a bibimbap. My kalbi tasted pretty good, nothing special. My plate came with a scoop of rice as well as these sides: kimchee, kimchee dijon, beansprouts, fishcake. I thought to ask for refills on my veggies but I figured they probably don't do that Haha. This is not a 5-star restaurant but after my lunch there, they deserve a 5-star review. I hobbled up on crutches at 11:50, not realizing that it wasn't yet noon. Not only did they not turn me away or make me wait (in or outside) but they also flipped the door sign to Open and opened up a bit early. My hungry heart was happy. The menu is small and you order at the counter, and while i have nothing to compare my meal to, I can say this - it was deeeelicious. I got the hot be bim bap with chicken and it was perfect. The Pork Belly is grilled, but it is cut and served in smaller pieces. I wish that the pieces were bigger, because it doesn't seem like a lot of pork belly. But, the pork belly is perfectly seasoned. The Kimchi Soondubu in pork was AMAZING. It was extremely flavorful with everything cooked to perfection.
