I'm somewhat opposed to visiting Kick Butt Coffee because it's owned by the original Yelp Austin Master Baiter. That being said, I made the trip here today for the "Yelp Stitch and Bitch" event, since I had purchased some items at Maker Faire and hadn't gotten around to working on them. For a Sunday afternoon, the place was pretty dead. There was a complete absence of music, save for the apparent volume turning up of The Karate Kid theme song, which was playing on the tv in the back... after the Wii had been turned off. It was quiet enough that we could monopolize a couple tables for our stitching and bitching, which was more of the former than the latter. The tables in the front seem kind of clustered together, I couldn't imagine being here when it was busy. They offer a variety of coffee beverages and have a full bar. They also serve coffee beverages with an "adult" twist... something I've been seeking since the temperature took a drop yesterday. I opted for a Chai Matey, a Chai Latte with Captain Morgan rum. My second one was way more boozy than the first, and I kind of liked it that way. The company was fabulous, the surroundings were amusing. They even have one of those Chuck Norris sayings posters. I was amused by that a couple years ago, but now I've heard them all and am pretty much over it. And now, the song is stuck in my head. "You're the best! ARouND!" read more

I really do need to go back and give Kick Butt another go. I liked the staff and the coffee, but I couldn't stay because the internet kept kicking my butt off. Maybe that's where they get the name, haha. I'll definitely update this review when I go for some live music, but remote workers beware. This is a great place to stop in and grab a cup of joe to go, but I wouldn't post up in one of their cool diner booths unless you were taking a break. read more

I stopped by here after early voting today (at the mall - w00t!) to get some coffee because voting is thirsty business. This place smells new. Almost too-new. It is hands-down the cleanest coffee shop I have ever stepped foot in. The decor is red and black modern, with what appeared to be a few comfy booths and a bunch of tables and chairs. A flat screen TV played a kung fu video on one wall of the cafe. It's not my style, and the decoration is a little sparce (I like an environment more like Epoch) but I think there's a coffee niche somewhere that loves martial arts and listens to techno and would really like the digs. They have a pretty small coffee menu but the barrista said he'd make anything iced or to order if there was a drink we wanted that wasn't on the menu. It was warm out so I got an iced coffee which was so yummy I gulped it down in about 3 minutes. Very good iced coffee that definitely made up for the cleanliness and newness and niceness of the place for me. I'll be by here again because it is in my neighborhood and seriously - have you tried to get a decent coffee at Highland Mall? There's nothing there in the way of caffeine. Plus, it was $3.something for two iced coffees which is not a bad price in Austin. read more

1. Great coffee (which is the main thing I'm looking for in a coffee shop) 2. MOCHA MARTINI. I can't even. Just yes. 3. Fun customers 4. Friendly service 5. Events that support local artists and bring people together 6. COOKIES. This is pretty much my favorite place to be on a Sunday night, or any other night really. Bring a date, meet a friend, find new buddies. Plus coffee. And good beer. And ninjas. read more

Kick Butt is EXACTLY what a coffee shop should be--eclectic, unique, fun, and not prone to taking oneself too seriously. The only things a good coffee shop should be serious about is quality product, quality value, and quality service. Kick Butt coffee is unparallelled in all three. Now, I understand that Master Gohring's taste is not for everyone. I'm ok with that; for people who can't lighten up a little and have no appreciation for the small businesses that are the backbone of America, you can find a Starbucks on nearly every corner. Some intersections have two Starbucks; I was once in a town in Florida where THREE corners at the same intersection were occupied by a Starbucks. But I digress.... My point is that, in nearly half a century of patronizing small businesses, of getting to know small business owners, and yes, even briefly owning a small business myself (which taught me that 1: I'm not cut out to be a small business owner and 2: that small business owners don't get enough respect), I have never met the owner of a business (of ANY size) who is more accommodating of his customers than Master Thomas Gohring. He takes the reviews and commentary of his businesses to heart (some would say "too much so") but that is what makes Master Gohring and Kick Butt coffee so special and so beloved. Kick Butt coffee is a winning 1-2-3 punch: great product, great people, and a great place. Don't let the naysayers dissuade you. This place ROCKS! read more

Great coffee. Very friendly staff. Never had a barrista make a mocha in less than 30 seconds and turn out so good. Great place to sit and work. Lots of chairs / sofa. Only comment I would make for the owner - the wifi is a little choppy. i had to try connecting several times before it connected, and it kicked me out a few times. maybe need a more powerful router. read more

I recently got the email explaining what is going on with Holly A and her opinion so I felt like it was my opportunity to give my opinion about Kick Butt Coffee. I just visited Kick Butt Coffee for the first time on Sunday evening for the Open Mic Event and had a great time. It was great to be able to enjoy poetry and the eclectic group of individuals that were there. The hosts were hilarious and awesome. Couple of things just as an FYI for Owner Thomas: 1. No one ever answers the phone! 2. It was freezing in there... I thought it was just me (because I am always cold) but there were a number of people doing the "arms in the shirt" action. 3. The Barista that was there that evening was NOT friendly and very standoffish. It seemed like I annoyed him by asking questions. Other than that we had a great time! Yes the decor is interesting but I didn't come for the decor... I came to have a good time with friends, have coffee, and enjoy the show. Thanks! Monique C read more

Everyone is always very nice. The coffee is always very good. There's lots of naughtyness under the pastry glass if that's your thing. Best of all, it's got character. No, wait. Booze. That's what's best of all, actually. It might not be the ideal study spot once the sun begins setting, but in fairness it never billed itself as being the ideal study spot. That said, I've gotten a lot of study and work done at this location and the dearly departed Triangle location. If you're the sort of miserable person (like me) who has actually had to spend an entire day studying, then you should study here before dinner, eat dinner either here or somewhere else, and study elsewhere after dinner. If you're pulling an all-nighter you probably don't want to have to worry about being kicked out and a 24-hour coffee shop is more suitable by then. I wish it were bigger, but it would be unfair to criticize the place on that basis. Keep up the good work! read more

Kick Butt Coffee is a confusing place. I really want to like it because it's a cool concept (martial arts themed - down to the kung fu uniformed employees) with pretty decent coffee and delicious breakfast burritos. Plus, it's local and you can tell a lot of thought has gone into its design and in to making it nice for customers. My main gripes are twofold. First, the employees are frankly not very friendly, despite tipping regularly. They are a pretty surly bunch (maybe it's from being forced to wear those ridiculous uniforms?). Second, I just bought a living social coupon for this place ($20 for $50 worth of coffee! what a steal!), but when I went to use it, I was told the coupon is actually for 10 $5 punches - so, if you buy a plain coffee for $2, they still punch a hole and no change is given. Meaning my $20 voucher is now worth... $20. I maybe would have still bought the voucher if the terms had been explained properly, but as it is, I just feel ripped off. read more

I've only been to this place a couple of times, but each time I left thinking "What the f**k just happened?" The last time I went, it was to have coffee with a new friend. It was a GORGEOUS day, so we took advantage of the outside seating on the sidewalk. There was a "card reader" there, and every so often he would come out for a cigarette and attempt a conversation. Since this was the first time I had hung out with this new friend, it was really annoying. Plus, his idea of conversation went from the weather ("It's such a nice day!") to nudity ("I would like nothing more than to lie on the grass naked.") to politics ("What kind of free country is this where I can't lie naked in the grass?"). My chai was just fine. My friend enjoyed her latte. However, there's no reason for me to go out of my way to visit this place. read more

5 stars ++++++++ Bottom line: Favorite coffee shop in all of Austin. What can be said that hasn't been already said? It's unique and it's funky as fuck. And I'm all about funky stuff. While some may be put off by the location, I guarantee you I'm not and never have been. The old stomping grounds are just down the road. I'm biased, I like the location. It's central enough. Every time I've been in, the service is extremely friendly and helpful, offering suggestions. I learned a lot one day. The barista asks: "Do you want that dirty, filthy or disgusting?" This is the name for how many shots go into your coffee. 2, 3 or 4? GENIUS! The treats are going to get me. I finally decided to cave and get one of their awesome cookies. If you have an affinity for some weird thing on a cookie, they have it. Cookie with fruit loops? Cookie with candy corn? Cookie with ruffles chips? And all with clever names, it's safe to say I'm going to have to get one of those cookies every time from now on. They've got breakfast tacos in the morning (pre-made, pre-wrapped for your convenience) and also serve lunch as well. In the evenings they have liquor and beer, and all sorts or quirky events. Someone else said it, and it's true, this is the least pretentious coffee shop in Austin. I've been to a lot of coffee shops. You want touristy, pretentious coffee? Drive south. You want coffee drank by the locals with a touch of weirdness? Here. read more

Move over Paris Hilton. You've got some competition going in the world of bad publicity and its handsome payoffs. I honestly never would have thought to *stop* at a coffee shop called "kick butt" (despite the million road signs in front, the huge banner, the Wii sign, the larger sign, etc.) had it not been for the M.G's rounds with the yelp community. What turned me off, (other than the stark, diner-meets bloody anime, 50-degree chill) when I walked in was the constant and rather shameless self promotion that is what got the guy in trouble here to begin with: "A list Best Coffee"! "KickButt Coffee kicks starbucks butt!" Articles about the business everywhere. For pete's sake, I'm already here. You don't have to sell me on it anymore! Anyway, the coffee: I had a mocha. Actually, to be honest, it was quite decent. The cookies were good too. But you know, I kind of felt like I had to take a shower afterward, similarly to when I read read US magazine for an entire flight and feel like I need to brush my teeth. I felt a little ashamed for enjoying the place. My review isn't doing this place much justice. I love Jaime M and Don P's reviews. They have it down. Read those. read more

My fiancé and I stopped in this morning for breakfast, and we were for sure impressed. The lattes and coffees are great! I also had a chocolate gluten-free, vegan miniature donut, and I was really surprised by how much I liked it. We also had a blueberry muffin that was delicious. The staff was super nice, and whoever decided on the music has excellent taste. The atmosphere is really laid back, and the decor is pretty cool. If you're coming for breakfast, keep in mind they only sell tacos until they run out! So, be sure to get here, so you don't miss out! read more

This place is really cheesy. The baristas wear tai chi outfits. I would be willing to look past all that, but the coffee is awful as well. The craziest thing about this place is that they somehow have my full name, and they have a testimonial with my name attached to it on their website praising their coffee. I've emailed them twice asking them to remove it. They have not. Thus, I'll clarify here: The coffee and atmosphere at this place sucks. read more

When I pulled in to the parking lot I saw a massive banner proclaiming that it had been named the Statesman's Best Coffehouse of 2008. I'm hoping that doesn't encompass the actual COFFEE. I wasn't very impressed with my vanilla latte, and I don't consider myself a coffee snob. My next coffee was improved somewhat with the application of booze, but I still don't think I'd drink coffee here very often. The SPACE is admittedly very nice, so maybe that's where the Statesman was coming from. Red walls, cushy booths with lots of table space, martial arts weaponry, a TV with Wii games. There were also all sorts of flyers advertising different events (like improv night) so I guess it's pretty hoppin' there in the evenings. It's got a fun atmosphere. read more

I'm giving 3 stars only because the coffee is really good. Although it looks like the same brand Luby's carries and I believe it is a lot less expensive there. The lemon poppy muffin I ordered is good too so I didn't think it would be fair to go with a 1 star rating. Anyway, I wanted a little treat. But point in giving only a 3 star rating and not a 5 star rating is that I just ordered a medium size coffee and a muffin and then the clerk tells me it's $8. I give her my card and when she gives me my coffee she I said: "it's kind of expensive, huh?" And without blinking, she replied with, "well we are a cafe not A Starbucks." REALLY?? I think their response could be a bit more creative and genuine. But, realistically isn't Starbucks a cafe?? I actually wanted to support a mom & pop (local) business but I think next time I'll just go to Starbucks. Who knew I could save money there!! read more

Reading the other reviews to this place are so hilarious. There are no jokes I can make after all those gems. Good reviews, guys! There was a little sign at the register that said you could buy a pair of Kick Butt nunchucks for $10.99 and I don't think they were joking. Like other reviewers said, thank god we finally have a coffee shop in the neighborhood. I was skeptical with the suspicious reviews that were up a few months ago before this place opened, and had stayed away before, but needed a place to get away for a few hours this morning and ended up here. The baristas were sweet, didn't mind that I just got a grapefruit juice and not coffee, and I got an hour or so of free wireless internet in a highly comfortable chair. There wasn't as much traffic or as many loud people as the more usual suspects, so it was nice and quiet without being too quiet. I will go back, despite the cheesy Asian decor. I love the red wall that suggests a hallway leading to the bathrooms. There are beautiful brightly colored portraits of some punk lookin' kids edited with Photoshop. That wall had some fabulous art and made the place "pop." They should go in that direction. (Update: when I went back, the cool art was gone and replaced with something else. Sad) They are also apparently having Monday night improv comedy. I probably won't check that out, but I thought I'd mention it since they advertised the heck out of it in the store. I noticed beer and wine too, so this would definitely be an evening place. read more

Maybe not the most common reason to go to a coffee house, but I originally went to Kick Butt Coffee in 2009 to dance. (You'd be amazed what a full bar can do to help a nervous girl at her first blues social dance.) The baristas/bartenders serve up strong and tasty drinks (responsibly, of course), so don't miss out on those! Trying the coffee seemed like the logical progression of things, so I started trying out delicious combinations. The one that sticks the most - a dirty, dirty chai. Regardless of the drink, the coffee is always top-notch. The beans are roasted well and never have that burnt taste. Your mouth will say, of its own accord, "Now that is what coffee is supposed to taste like!" followed by noises of enjoyment and possibly slurping. Now that I've moved off to the great cornfields of Nebraska (though I travel back fairly often), I haven't found a coffee shop that matches up. That means one of my mandatory go-to spots when I visit Austin is Kick Butt Coffee, especially on Friday nights for Kick Butt Blues. Nothing like some blues dancing to work up an appetite for that dirty, dirty chai. read more

I *love* KickButt Coffee. The vanilla latte makes my day. The friendly staff, who is all smiles, makes an effort to connect with me and my children. The owner has done a fabulous job at making almost every customer touch point branded with something around the KickButt/Ninja/Martial Arts theme. My kids dream of owning the branded num-chucks. . . The menu options are great. The seating, mostly indoors, ranges from tables to booths, to a small quaint chatting area in front of the tv. My only request would be to make real fruit smoothies instead of frozen smoothie mixes. . . read more

ALRIGHT a little edit paragraph right here- if you read the owner's comment at the bottom of this post, you will find many of the things I state below addressed in a decently satisfactory manner. This place is not really my style or what I look for in a coffee shop, but I will correct my post below with 2 points: The owner really cares about the place and though I don't totally get it, it is a unique business and it is thoughtfully and intentionally done. Second point- though the coffee wasn't all that good tasting, I give them big points for the fact that it is actually fair trade and organic. That means a lot and I'm glad they support that kind of industry. Sorry to the manager who was my barista, also... please smile and be friendly! You're kind of scary when you don't. I added one star because of the personal response of the owner and the fair trade organic coffee. However I still maintain that it's not my style. **** There wasn't one redeeming aspect for my trip to Kickbutt Coffee (on Airport). Oh, I just remembered that there was- the service was quick. But that was it. (Edit: see above note.) We walk in to just grab a coffee to go since we were in the area and the server behind the counter was totally grim looking- actually intimidating. I think maybe he was irritated about having to wear that cheesy, ill-fitting red "Chinese" shirt uniform. I don't blame him for that. But there wasn't really an excuse for his fast-food-drive-through service level of quality. Actually, that comparison is an insult to fast food service employees around the country as I have frequently witnessed more cheerness and personality there than I did at Kickbutt. I really just wanted to Kick HIS Butt, to be honest. He slammed our coffee shots around like he was trying to kick THEIR butts. His grouchy face and the "Tipping is not a place in China. Trust us, we've been there" sign by the tip jar felt like an affront. Overall I had the impression that no one really cared about the place. The weird mix of the badly done Asian theme, the lunch menu more prominent than the coffee menu, the random stage/venue aspect, the rough service, and ultimately the disappointing coffee made this place seem like a frantic and half-hearted effort to save an unfocused, dispassionate business. Just don't go there if all you want is some good coffee. I know there are people who like this place according to some of these other reviews, but I just can't see why. Oh, p.s. it's really expensive for what you get. A dry cappuchino and a soy latte, both the smallest size, came to $7.99. read more

Barista for a Day kicks butt! I signed up for the "Barista for a Day" class through UT Informal classes and had a blast! Reasons for signing up? - I love coffee, but I'm not a coffee connoisseur..I figured it wouldn't hurt to get a little more edumucated - I've always wanted to know what the heck goes on back there. How are they pulling espresso shots and what are all those whatchamagadgets they're using? - I secretly want to own my own coffee shop/bakery one day and while this is not exactly the start of my quest to entrepreneurship, I wanted to get some face time with the inner workings of a perfect dry cappuccino The class was held at the Kick Butt Airport location, a small class of 6. Thomas, the owner, was very personable and eager to answer any questions we had. I learned a lot about different types of coffee, where to get a good roast, how to pull a perfect espresso shot, how you can tell if you've pulled a perfect shot (before you even taste it) and lots of other cool, good to know coffee facts and barista terminology. Do you know what a Portafilter is? A Tamper? a Doser lever? No? Well, I do now. I have to admit, I feel I'm at least one or two levels closer to being able to call myself something of a coffee connoisseur. I also kind of got to pick Thomas' brain about his shop and the costs that go into owning and operating, which was pretty neat. I have a new found appreciation for coffee now and will continue to perfect my at home brews. In fact I'm perfecting a toddy mix (cold brewed coffee) in my kitchen at this very moment. Just 12 more hours to toddy brew bliss. Thanks Thomas and Kick Butt for a fun experience! read more

1. I ordered a sandwich. There's a sandwich menu up on the wall. The guy said "We don't make sandwiches on weekends." Um, what? 2. The music--it's really loud. Much too loud for a coffee shop. Am I an old lady? Perhaps. But I like to study at coffee shops and if I can hear the music through my noise-cancelling headphones with my own music on, I'm not a happy camper. 3. There was no soap in the ladies' restroom, which in itself is not a huge deal. But when I told the guy behind the counter, the very same we-don't-make-sandwiches-on-weekends guy, he seemed very confused by my telling him this. read more

Okay, I'm from Seattle.... Hard to find coffee I really like when out of Coffee Central (better known as Seattle!). I do greatly appreciate other factors, but Kick Butt just didn't offer them. Three Yeses equal a No: - Yes, my son and I were able to stay for a long time, working on a joint project. - Yes, there was the kung-fu theme, which was different - but not intriguing or cool. - Yes, there was wi-fi, but not strong enough to watch a short video. - Yes, there was coffee, but it certainly didn't Kick Bu!tt read more

Coffee was alright. Music was good. It did smell of mothballs though. It was also a bit pricey, especially for just alright coffee. I think what most annoyed me was the owners constant comments about "Obama voters" and how they "act like they're entitled to everything." I was there for 2.5 hours quietly studying and by the third comment I was through. I understand elections were a week ago and emotions may still be a bit high, but damn! Making broad generalizations about Obama voters doesn't seem like the best business practice when 60.2% of the county you have a business in voted for the guy. Nothing against them, but I'd rather go somewhere where I can feel more relaxed. read more

I will tell you the truth, I drove by Kick Butt Coffee may times wondering if it would ever open. And I was SKEPTICAL...because of the name, and I am a coffee snob, a former barista, and it is in a weird little strip mall by Highland Mall. I had a skim Chai Latte, because it was late and I was craving tea. It was really good. And I ordered skim and the barista did not flinch. I can't say that would happen when I was a barista...I was kind of anti skim latte ordering. Yeah yeah...I have come around and gotten a little heavier since then... what can you do. Sorry I cannot comment on the coffee, but I will...I will.. I thought it was really cute inside. Very Asian/Dojo inspired, clean but chic. I loved it. My barista was super nice and welcoming and I was there 15 minutes before closing. I totally felt comfortable and I wanted to stay and hang out. But it was late and I had a few more place to go. Also I wanted to hang a poster, so she got Dave the manager. He too was very cool and nice. He was relaxed and attentative and I did not feel rushed at all. I left feeling like I had found a new spot to hang out in my neighborhood. Um just so you know...they have booze too! Take it from your resident Roller Girl...this place Kicks Butt! read more

I went to a poetry slam here, which I had never been to one before and it was very interesting and I did enjoy it. They have some booths near the stage and it was a very unique experience, and not in a bad way. I would go back for one there. read more

The hidden gem of Austin: shhhhh don't tell anyone - or it will get over-run with people. Today I went by Kick-Butt - on the recommendation of a friend. Wow! I am so glad I did. The staff is so lovely and friendly. The afternoon barrista suggested that I come tonight for the comedy get together. So I stayed in Austin for six hours just to see if the night was up to snuff. Believe me, this is an enjoyable experience and is like a free night at the comedy club. Local comedians and wanna-be's come in to practice and 'play' for laughs. If you just like to hang out and be improvisational yourself, you will love this place. It is a unique place - not the stiff corporate and not the grunge-dirty-bathroom kinda place. It is just right: in the middle. Very clean. The staff tonight was just lovely - very friendly and professional. The comedy night made my week. It was funny and improvisational. The owner took time to talk with me and showed his interest in his customers. That means a lot. It has an old New York formal kind of feel - where clubs were something special crossed with a casual coffee kind of atmosphere. There is nothing else like it - so it is worth taking a special date there - because it is sexy and quaint. For a local hang-out - no matter what any local paper says - head to Kick-Butt. You will love it!!!!!!! They treat you like you are something special. Five stars plus! read more

I've been trying to expand my coffee experience to include new places. This week I decided to try Kick Butt Coffee after some decent reviews on Yelp. I came in on 7/24 and was surprised to see no one was hanging out. You could tell someone really ran with their karate theme as it's prevalent from the decor, barista wardrobe, and product names. I felt it was a bit over the top for my taste and especially here in Austin. I ordered a large mocha which came to $6.25. This is the most expensive I paid for a mocha in all of Austin. There is a huge red flag if your coffee costs more then a beer. I would understand some of the costs if the place was renowned and award winning like other local establishments, however that was not the case. They use an automatic press from what I saw which creates a starbucks taste (that's not a compliment). Over all I was left leaving a lot to be desired by the atmosphere and coffee. I will not be back. read more

I've been to this location several times and the last time severely disappointed me. The barista rang me up and handled my cash, and then without washing her hands, proceeded to wipe the extra espresso off with her fingers rather than a brush. I couldn't even make myself drink it after that. On a good note, the iced coffee is decent, but that's the only decent drink you'll find. The hot coffees are bland and expensive and I don't recommend them to anyone. read more

I really like this place. It caters to several types of consumer. It serves the hard core coffee shop crowd, the gotta get a morning bite crowd, the entertain me crowd and also the I just want a relaxing, delicious cup of Joe served by friendly folks crowd (my type). The baristas are friendly and they will chat if they're not insanely busy. There is a large selection of morning (my visit time) goodies including muffins, bagels, cookies, breakfast tacos and (drum roll) Round Rock donuts. What a great idea to have these delightful donuts in this part of Austin. I haven't visited yet outside of the morning hours, but the place is set up for some raucous night time fun. There are nightly activities and events posted on the wall. From the other reviews it must really get to hopping. Friendly folks, nice bites and kick butt coffee, a good combination. read more

It' s funny how I found this place, I use Sherpa in my G1 phone to find it. The name is definitely great because it is about differentiating the shop from others coffee shop & been local. The service was good and person taking my other was very friendly. The free Wi-fi was excellent and the one reason I went to the shop since I need to work and do some searches online. The mocha I had was delightful. I am not sure about the person who allow me to plug in my power cord to the plug to recharge my battery was a native of the coffee shop or not but I appreciate the sharing as another fellow computer user, Thank you again. After visiting my chiropractor Wendee Whitehead (read my review about her if you want to be pain free), I noticed a very catchy sign called Kick Butt Coffee. I'm a pretty adventurous person by nature so I decided to stop in. I had not until today read any reviews about this place. Had I, I would have not been so shocked when I opened the door. The entire coffee shop is Asian inspired. The barista was in a little Asian dress and did everything but bow when i walked in. She was very helpful especially when I ordered an extra shot in an already 3 shot drink. My body thanks you Ms. barista lady. Chuck Noris is the man and apparently the know it considering he's practically on everything. One thing that did excite me was the fact that you can play the Wii and even use their karaoke machine. I doubt I will actually ever do that but it's still cool. The coffee was actually very decent. It reminded me very much of a Starbucks carmel latte. I know Starbucks is a bad word in Yelp land but I do really like Starbucks. They employ locals right?? Far stretch. I know. A very enthusiastic 2 thumbs up!! I will definitely be returning after my chiropractor visits. read more

So it is thanksgiving eve and my sister and I are bored. What to do ? We end up at Kick Butt Coffee for Comedy open mike night. My sister calls and asks if there will actually be people there. The barista answers 'Well there better be, or else we are not gonna make any money." We think that is funny, so we go. The place is cute and very clean ( props from me,) and the guy has some crazy good marketing strategies. I have heard about this coffee shop allllll over the place and been wanting to check it out. The comedy host was a little crass, the audience a bunch of laid back hippie types and the barista gave me my cheap hot tea, and let me get more hot water and gave me extra soymilk. I was happy. The comedians were a mixed bag, but I was left with a huge laugh at the end of the night when everyone had left except me, my sister and her roommate, b/c we felt bad for leaving when there were still comics talking ( the jewish guilt).... and the comedian was trying to have us do a call and response song about Steve Irwins death to the tune of "Crazy." Then he sang a strange song about Tina Fey. Its hard to explain, but wow. What an interesting way to spend a thankgiving eve. And I was only out 2 bucks. I will stick to tea here, but will come back again. read more

I went to Kick Butt last Sunday, looking for a quiet place to write and do homework. The place wasn't too crowded and I easily found a table next to an outlet for my charger. I ordered a vanilla latte, which was served very frothy and hot--just how I like it. I also ordered a brownie, which was actually one of the best brownies I've ever had. The coffee was perfectly decent, but three days later, I'm wishing I had another one of those brownies. I was there for almost five hours. It was a great place to get some work done, just quiet enough with some good music. There was a kind-of weird, Info Wars, Alex-Jonsey vibe to the place, but not nearly as in-your-face as some other North/Central locations. Overall, I highly recommend this place for study groups, writers, and readers. Excellent hang-out. read more

This coffee shop was near the hotel I was staying at, so I walked on over to give it a try. I walked in, and the decor was the first thing I noticed. Very cute and true to the martial arts theme. It was a bit messy, though. There were only about 3-4 tables that were occupied but the front of the shop had chairs strewn about everywhere. I'd already had some coffee for the day, but I really wanted a sandwich. There appeared to be two employees working who either didn't know what they were doing or they just didn't care. It took me quite a while to get through the line even though there were only two people in front of me when I walked in. When I finally got up to the counter, I ordered, and paid, and the guy walked away. Not having been there before, I wasn't sure what to do. Do I stand here until they make my sandwich? Do I go sit down? I decided to go find a table. One of the employees brought out my sandwich in a plastic clamshell. "Oh, did you want this for here?", he said. "Yes," I replied. He said he'd go get me a plate. He returned with a saucer that did not even fit the sandwich and a cocktail napkin. On the flip side, the sandwich was pretty darn good. I guess I would maybe stop in again before I leave town, but my expectations are pretty low at this point. I also agree with the previous reviewer who said that maybe the grumpiness of the employees stems from the silly outfits that they have to wear. read more

Awesome coffee and awesome staff. I am in here at least 3 times a week to have my Large Almond Milk Latte. Sometimes I come in twice a day! Go for the Breakfast tacos as they are made IN HOUSE DAILY. Not dropped off or made elsewhere like some other coffee joints. All the staff are hands down the coolest, funniest and amazing people ever. Always attentive and outgoing to make sure everything is to your satisfaction. Throw some whiskey in that coffee as there is a FULL BAR as well! Keep Kicking Butt Kick Butt!! read more
