I've read a lot about the Sierra Chef on Facebook, and I've always wanted to pass through town and…read more stop. This is my first time in Genoa, which is a wonderful little town. It reminds me a little bit of Virginia City, only without the bars, casinos, old-time photo shops, and camel races. Genoa is the oldest town in Nevada, founded in 1851 as a Mormon trading post. It still has lots and lots of history. Mormon Station State Park has replicas of some of the original buildings, and there are other historic buildings in town as well. however, Genoa feels more like a small ranching town rather than a big movie set. Tucked into this cute little town, is the Sierra chef. They do a lot. They do catering, they do cooking classes and it's a good old-fashioned Italian deli, also. Lots of Italian foods, and also grocery items, that you can buy. They have meats and cheeses, imported olive oils , sauces, and pastas. Amazing pastries. Gelato. They even carry. Illy coffee, which is a very high-quality coffee. Everybody in the store was so nice. For my lunch order, I was helped by Lori, and she was also very friendly and helpful. I decided to have the Porchetta sandwich, and it was amazing. Wonderfully seasoned pork, cut into thin strips. It was rich, savory, and had an amazing "porky" flavor. I could smell it as soon as it was brought out to my table. It was on a wonderful bread that was crusty on the outside, and soft and pillowy on the inside. , the cheese was creamy, , and the veggies were just absolutely amazing. One of the best sandwiches I have had in a long time. To drink, I had a cherry lime, Italian cream soda. I could taste both the cherry and the lime, I loved the creaminess of it, and there was just enough of a soda water that I could get the carbonation. For dessert, I had a cannoli. The shell was perfect, the ricotta in the middle was wonderfully rich, and I had chocolate chips on one end, and pistachios on the other. Again, totally top-notch. I took home a jar of imported puttanesca sauce, and it was just as great. The tomatoes had just had a rough chop, I could taste the brine from the capers, I could taste the olives, everything in it made it one of the best sauces that I have had in a long, long time. I live in the Sacramento area, so I'm going to have to see if I can find that sauce locally. It was that good. The price out the door for everything was very reasonable, considering the high-quality of the product. Just an amazing stop at a fantastic shop. I will be back. Thanks!

Tonight I ordered the pepperoni, sausage and mushroom pizza and a Chicago dog to-go. The pie was square-cut Chicago-style, with browned cheese, pepperoni, crumbled Italian sausage, and mushrooms. The sausage has the fennel note you expect on a Chicago pie, not bland grocery sausage. The dog was built the right way: Vienna beef, poppy seed bun, yellow mustard, neon relish, onion, tomato wedges, pickle spear, sport pepper, and celery salt. The restaurant still imports the dogs, sausage, Italian beef, relish, giardiniera, buns, and rolls from Chicago, and the mushrooms are imported and blanched. The dining room still has the original family photos and Chicago memorabilia. Ordering is easier than it used to be. They now have online ordering at chicagomikes.pizza, you can create an account, and they deliver. I also witnessed DoorDash there while waiting for my order to be ready; so that's an option now too. If you sign in to the new website, they run a points setup that can turn into discounts or a free side once it adds up. Confirm the current reward on the site when you order, because that part is not spelled out yet on the menu. This is still the Chicago-style stop I use in the Carson Valley: thin square pie and a Chicago dog made perfectly; not a generic pizza chain. They also sell deep dish if that is what you want. Hours are limited (typically closed Monday and Tuesday), so check before you go. Menu: https://chicagomikes.pizza/menu

The perfect spot when family comes to town!…read more The Pink House is my go-to place whenever I have family visiting--and it never disappoints! Located in historic Genoa (Nevada's very first settlement), this beautifully restored 1855 Gothic Revival landmark has that wonderful old-time feel that makes the experience special from the moment you walk in. The food is fantastic, with a delicious Southern twist that reminds me of New Orleans--big, bold flavors that make every bite memorable. We also loved the wood-fired pizzas, which are a must-try. And the craft cocktails? Absolutely yummy. To top it all off, they feature live acoustic music that adds such a fun, lively vibe to the whole experience. The service was great, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Perfect for a family visit or a night out with friends. Can't wait to come back! Highly recommend.

I think it's safe to say they use frozen corn which is a shame because fresh corn is still very much in season. I had their corn as an accompaniment to one of my past dishes and the texture is the same. Completely over cooked, soggy, mushy corn on the cob with absolutely no flavor. And get this, it costs $18 or $19! It's literally one corn on the cob that they portion into 4 or 6 pieces. Fish Special - It was rock fish with a red pepper sauce, eggplant stacked with feta and herbed roasted potatoes. The fish was over cooked and really salty. Eggplant was dry and difficult to eat. I didn't even bother with it. Potatoes, no big deal. Margherita Pizza - Good flavor, just not a fan of their crust Tchoupitoulas- We've gotten this in the past and this seems to be consistent with flavor and execution. My husband said it was as good as the first time. Kid's Mac n Cheese - At $19 I expected a large portion. It's not. But it was the best dish we ordered. It's more of a macaroni with Alfredo sauce rather than a cheddar mac n cheese. My son enjoyed it as did everyone else at the table.

With only about ten tables, it has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere, and the staff is always friendly and bustling around making sure everyone is happy and taken care of. I definitely have my favorites here, and I can honestly say they make some of the best sandwiches I've ever had the pleasure of eating. In no particular order, THE Sandwich, The Marcello, and the Iron Mike are some of my regular go-tos. I usually have them make the Iron Mike as a wrap, and it's fantastic. Peanut butter, avocado, havarti, cucumber, sunflower seeds, carrots, sprouts, greens, red onion, and their Marionberry vinaigrette sounds like a crazy combination until you try it. Somehow it just works! Their BLTA is amazing too, and when I'm trying to cut back on the carbs, I'll go with a Caesar salad and add a couple scoops of their tuna salad on top. Their homemade Caesar dressing has one of the better flavor profiles I've had, and I have no idea what their secret is with that tuna salad, but it is next level. Seriously good! If you order a sandwich, it comes with a side salad dressed with their house Marionberry vinaigrette. That dressing is SO good that I'll order extra on the side and pour a little over each bite of my Iron Mike when I go that route. Don't knock it until you try it! Their soups are also made fresh in-house daily and are a great option when the Carson Valley starts cooling off. A hot bowl of homemade soup and half a sandwich here is pretty hard to beat. This is exactly the kind of small, locally owned café I love finding and supporting. Great people, fresh food, creative sandwiches, homemade dressings, and a comfortable little atmosphere that keeps us coming back. If you're in the Gardnerville area, give Café Girasole a shot. You won't be disappointed! Just plan ahead because their hours are pretty limited and they're only open on weekdays.
