Sierra Chef - Made In Nevada [Genoa NV] I followed the garlicky smell of the savory prosciutto flatbread and our noses led us here at this Italian bakery called Sierra Chef. The minute we walked inside the smell of baked pastries, cookies, and sweet & savory treats permeated the store. Ahhhh... Sierra Chef also offers cooking classes for adults and children in their commercial kitchen. Saw a few ladies behind the counter taking the class and having fun at the same time while I perused through the items offered... some fun handcrafted kitchen items laid out on the back table. We were just looking for dessert since we already had brunch across the street at the Flutter & Buzz Cafe. I asked for gelato and chose dark chocolate flavor. Waited while the employee went towards the back to scoop our ice creams. I had no idea how huge the servings were when she handed the cups to me. I should've just asked for one cup to share. It was delicious though. We sat and enjoyed them outside at their outdoor patio. The weather was beautiful and perfect for gelato. Mangia Bene! Review #3734

HOLY CANNOLI! Growing up back east in the midst of Italian families, I came to really enjoy a good Cannoli. I have to say these are some of the best I have had on the west coast. Filled fresh to order (this is key so the are not soggy) dipped in Pistachios on one side and chocolate chips on the other. I had my first on a Friday afternoon and was back for more on Sunday. That is hopefully enough of a recommendation for you to stop and try them. I'll be back again and again and again...

We had the most incredible cooking class experience! I planned a private class for my girl friend's birthday and the owner, Cynthia, worked with me closely to coordinate a date and time that worked with everyone's schedules. From the moment we arrived, everything was thoughtfully set up--from the beautiful mocktails to the charcuterie board. Cynthia guided our large group through a four-course Italian meal that was not only delicious but so fun to make together. It felt relaxed, welcoming, and perfectly paced, even with a big group of friends. Cynthia had a way of being easy going, while also helping us stay on track and explaining everything as we cooked. Every course turned out amazing, and we left full, happy, and already talking about when we can do it again. Highly recommend for celebrations, group gatherings, or just an unforgettable night with friends! I also can't wait to take my kids for a kids cooking class.

A great cheese selection...

What a yummy surprise for a Sunday morning breakfast in the patio. Relaxed environment, good food, good coffee, and good company...It doesn't get much better than that... But please, keep it a secret, no need to overrun this quality spot.

Scrumptious Italian baked goods with quality ingredients! I stopped by after a long hike in Genoa after reading good things in edible Reno. A very cute but small shop that we almost missed. The cannolis are not prefilled but filled upon ordering and topped with pistachios and chocolate chips. Very light and crunchy and the perfect sweetness level. I also got this pear cherry dessert that was a cross between a tart and a danish. So delish! The whole pear was soft and tender and not too sweet. The cream was thick and yummy. You can tell everything is handmade because there's not a bunch sitting out on display only 2-3 items of each dessert. Wonderful little discovery!

The food was amazing! And very reasonable. And the service was excellent. They make great sandwiches and pair them with the most amazing salads! Or, if you prefer, you can just get the salad. There were four of us for lunch, and we each got something different. I got the roast beef sandwich, and the spinach salad with it. It was SOOO good - and big enough that I took half home! My husband had the turkey sandwich and the Chinese chicken salad. We're going back next week, and the only problem is trying to figure out which delicious combination to try!

A locally owned small business one-stop-shop for everything culinary, they offer specialty kitchen supplies, a cafe, and a culinary school. The owners Lara and Jay greeted me, and were so kind and helpful. Eager to learn new skills and meet more new friends, I signed up for three classes - Autumn Soups and Breads, Slow Cooker, and Sushi, all taught by Lara and assisted by her generous and attentive staff. Don't worry, you don't need to be a master chef to take a class here. No matter your level of experience, Lara's chatty style is accessible and interactive. In the demo style classes, you watch, learn, and get fed! The Sushi class was hands on, so fun! After Lara showed us various techniques, we worked in small groups, with staff floating around and helping us when we had questions. The end result was sharing our creations with our group and schmoozing over a glass of wine. I was impressed that before classes, I was asked to provide a list of allergies. In class, the staff KNEW this, and when I politely declined samples of foods I could not eat, they went out of their way, without being prompted, to offer accommodations. For example, they brought me a soup bowl without pasta and cheese. Instead of feeling like an outsider, it was nice to be treated with respect and concern. The NTI philosophy of good cooking comes down to quality ingredients, the proper techniques, and the right tools. Now, that I've gone home and tried some of the recipes, the proof is in the results. You can't take short cuts if you want good flavor. Lara gave us the low down on where to buy the freshest meats, fish, and produce, gave tips on cutting and cooking techniques, and made recommendations for awesome cooking tools specific to the recipes she demoed. I've bought a few things from their store that truly help me in the kitchen. The vegetable peeler alone has literally changed my life. I'm looking forward to taking more classes soon. I feel welcome there, and I have so much I still want to learn. NTI is an incredible resource, and we are lucky to have them!

Instead you may get a questionably trained chef who shows up late, forgot ingredients, didn't cook part of the menu and is a professional at reheating. Highlights of our overpriced meal included shrimp that was so rubbery we didn't know if it was shrimp, a sludge of mixed vegetables that were seemingly from a can, rice that was pre-made and reheated, corn overcooked, and steak that was like rubber and well done with no flavor. This professionally trained chef also shared that the salad dressing (the only edible portion of the meal) is easy to make, "just hidden valley ranch packet mixed with chipotle. The empanadas are also easy to make, just buy frozen pastry dough and put corn and meat in". Tortillas were out of a bag, and the guac and sour cream served out of paper bowls that we supplied. That price doesn't include plates or even a cocktail or wine? We requested a tres leche cake, which he pulled out of a box and told us he ordered from a bakery. Of course there is some value to this individual showing up, but frankly he should have been paid as a middle man, not a chef. Despite the horrific food, I was excited he agreed to do all the dishes until I opened the dishwasher the next morning only to find it has been run with no soap. The final icing on the cake was the knock on the door 10 minutes after he left to remind us we needed to tip him directly and not through the company or he doesn't see a dime of it, something seems weird there...??? I have never left a poor review on yelp before, but if there is ever one that is deserving of it this is it.
