I've known Montague for over 30 years and I think khaosan has staying power. They're all nice people. The thumping dance-hall music however doesn't sound right. I came for a quiet lunch. Also, the wait staff is certainly polite but they need to be trained. My guy used the entree plate to move what I was currently eating out of the way. LOL. There are companies that will train your staff in detail. Good luck. Most important is the thumping music. I recommend soft jazz from all over the world. read more

We came here yesterday after not being served at Xisan de Classic and I'm so glad we did. We arrived around 8:30 on a Saturday without a reservation. They were very nice and put us on the waitlist with a 30 minute wait. We headed over to Van Leeuwen for a pre-dinner treat and to wait somewhere dry. Exactly at the 30 minute mark I got the text to head over and we did. We sat down and it took a few minutes for someone to take our order but once they did everything moved very quickly. I ordered the lychee sangria and my husband ordered the thai lime tea and the purple lemonade. All of the drinks were excellent and they were kind enough to give me extra flamingo straws to bring to my kids when I said they'd enjoy them. As for food we started with the chive pancakes and the moo ping. Both were amazing, but I especially loved the chive pancakes. The sticky rice that came with the moo ping was very good. For Entrees my husband ordered the duck red curry and I ordered the garlic beef udon noodles. My husband curry was delicious! And I loved my noodles until I tasted cilantro and I couldn't enjoy it any longer but that was my fault for not asking about it in the first place. I highly recommend coming here. With so many thai restaurants to choose from, it's hard to pick a favorite! I lived down the street from Khaosan for over a year, and while I only dined in twice, each was a great experience that left little to be desired! I happened to be in a rush on both visits, and they were pretty good about getting the food out quickly each time. Prices were excellent for the area, and I wish I had stopped by for their lunch/hh specials! The inside is very instagram-friendly, but it's not over the top obnoxious. Khaosan quickly became one of my favorite Thai spots in this part of Brooklyn! The staff are so friendly and attentive even though we were seated in a little nook of the restaurant (which I actually really enjoyed with the privacy)! We came on a Tuesday night and they were busy but we were quickly seated! We ordered the khao soi and roasted duck green curry. I frequent this Thai restaurant on occasion and order via online for pick up. All of the items ordered have always been delicious and with abundance of food. The staff is very attentive and accommodating, providing small table and water or beverage while waiting for the food. I usually visit their bathroom and on my last visit noticed they added an extra restroom to accommodate for the customers visiting during peak hours. The restaurant is very inviting and colorful, definitely Instagram and provides a bit of spark and brightness to the space. This is by far one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the area. read more

Delicious takeout experience! I got the ocean's harvest pad thai and we shared the fresh rolls, both were fantastic! One of my favorite pad thais in the city, I loved the thin rice noodles instead of flat, and the addition of crab claws and shrimp really made it. The mussels and calamari were a tad rubbery, but didn't take away from the dish too much, I could have licked the plate clean! The rolls were yummy too, with a nice peanut sauce. What a great little lively place! Stopped by on a Thursday night and got seated immediately at 6, but it definitely filled up as it got later. Khaosan feels more akin to the Thai restaurants that exist in college towns. So we got lost along our way to a deli on a rainy evening in Brooklyn, NY and ended up having dinner here at KHAOSAN THAI RESTAURANT. I wasn't expecting anything different from other Thai Restaurants I've visited, BOY WAS I WRONG! This place was awarded in 2023. We started with appetizers (forgot to rake pictures, sorry hehe). The Siomai/dumpling with their house sauce was fantastic! My husband ate most of it lol. The chicken skewers with a side of peanut sauce and house vinegar were good too. But the dinner made a whole difference. My daughter had the Garlic Beef Noodles and she said it was so good the empty bowl says it all. My husband (who doesn't like rice noodles) ordered Beef Soup said he can't finish the big bowl of broth because he devoured all of it to his surprise. So I say it must be really good. He did mention the broth was excellent. I ordered the Seafood Tom Yum and my, my, my.... It was so good I finished a whole order myself and left little broth. It was perfectly seasoned with perfect spice specially on a cold, rainy night. The shrimp and mussels were plump and perfectly cooked, not chewy nor dehydrated like cheap packaged seafood. It was truly a delightful find. If only we could have eaten more, we would but our stomachs only accept so much. Lol. The Thai Iced Tea, I will pass because my homemade Thai Iced Tea tastes way better. For all the food we paid $150 including tip which is not bad for everything we ate and experienced. The decor and even the exterior of the restaurant is covered in florals and hunter green - super welcoming and aesthetic at the same time. The drink menu is extensive, and includes soft drinks, specialty drinks as well as cocktails and mock tails ranging from $10-18. I got the classic Thai iced tea - very tea forward and still quite sweet despite requesting less sweet FYI! My friend enjoyed the honey yuzu lemonade a lot. My favorites were the spaghetti soft shell crab. The pasta was al dente and well spiced. I'd definitely get this again and beware of the pepper pieces within the pasta! They can be quite spicy. The soft shell crab was crispy and I really enjoyed this! The grilled black pepper pork with truffle oil was so good - the pork was super tender and having the rice with the sauce was super yummmy. This restaurant is really cute down a few stairs in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in brooklyn. The flowers on the wall make you happy and the service is really good. Fam, this is a no for me. Reviews said this place is vegan-friendly and the online menu seemed to support that, but in-person, the staff gave inconsistent answers. One staff said that a lot of vegan diners order the pad thai but another one said that it's the only noodle dish that they can't make vegan. We were confused and felt very pressured to place an order while we made sense of the menu. After all the effort, our noodle dish still arrived with egg. I took family here for dinner for an outing, and as soon as we walked in, saw the interior, and sat down, we knew we were going to eat good. The restaurant looked gorgeous. And we got a nice little table almost in a private part of the restaurant. The service was good too. Most of us got various types of noodles (like the udon, pad Thai, and drunken noodles), curries, and I got the whole frid brandino. We also started off with the crab rangoons, which were honestly the best rangoons I've ever had. I tried a little bit of everyone's food and liked all of it. I loved my branzino - it was freshly fried and came with some flavorful sauces and some greens and rice. People also got drinks which they enjoyed. The only downside is that our area kept getting warmer until it was uncomfortable. I told them about it and they turned off the heat which made it better. To start, we ordered the Curry Dumplings made of steamed vegetables in a homemade curry sauce. The appetizer includes six dumplings, so if your group has more than three people, I recommend ordering two. We shared a variety of main courses: Kaeng Phed Ped Yang made of roasted duck breast simmered in a red curry paste with coconut milk. It was served with baby eggplants, pineapple, mushrooms, seasonal vegetables, and a side of blue coconut rice. Flavorful and well-balanced, this dish was the highlight of the meal. Pad See Ew made of stir-fried broad rice noodles with Chinese broccoli, farm-fresh egg, and sweet soy sauce. You can choose your protein or opt for a vegetarian version. A solid classic Thai dish. Pineapple Fried Rice made of jasmine rice stir-fried with pineapple, curry powder, egg, cashews, dark soy sauce, tomatoes, scallions, onions, and Chinese broccoli. Like the Pad See Ew, it's customizable with your choice of protein. Another dish that was hit. I'm looking forward to trying their Happy Hour Specials (Monday to Friday from 5-7 PM), which features $12 cocktails and $8 to $12 small plates. A nice place to have a late afternoon meal with my favorite globe trotting, state hopping aunt, who's visiting NYC. As a former New Yorker, she was kind of blown away and somewhat saddened by all of the changes in Brooklyn and the city overall. A beautiful book with beautiful pictures of the food! I took pictures of this menu/book because I was blown away as was my auntie. We hemmed and hawed regarding what we would have for an appetizer and settled on chicken wings. She started to order a cocktail, but I ordered a Thai iced tea and she decided to have the same. We both love a good Thai iced tea and Khaosan had a great one... not too sweet and not bitter at all. It was refreshing and enjoyable. The chicken wings were not so exciting (note the missing star). I'm gonna leave that alone... they weren't my first choice, but that won't stop me from trying other appetizers in the future at this fine establishment. In the meantime, I ordered the crab fried rice, which came with a soft scrambled egg. Initially, looking at the plate, I didn't think that it was a great portion for the cost, but I couldn't finish my food and had to get it to go box. It was quite filling and absolutely tasty. The egg was delicately scrambled and I was happy that I decided to order it after contemplating over a number of dishes. My aunt ordered the crispy Bronzino and seemed to enjoy it very much. She stated that she thought the preparation was unique as was the presentation. Our server was a pleasant young woman who was very patient with us LOL. She informed us that the restaurant would be closing for the staff lunch before the dinner rush, but let us know that we didn't have to leave. We were allowed to stay and finish our meal without being rushed or ignored. We were too busy chatting and eating. It was just overall relaxing and a really nice space to be in on such a dreary day. The chicken had great flavor, lightly crisp but not quite fried, sitting on top of tons of broccoli and a really tasty brown sauce. It had a side of jasmine rice. This place is great. This was my first time in, because I'm always ordering takeout. Let me tell ya, the amount of delivery they have in and out is crazy! Their entire bar is full of takeout orders. I'd recommend maybe re-locating those orders to the other exit area they have by the kitchen. This will allow you to have an additional 6 seats at the bar for dining in.
