We went to Khaar for the first time on their grand opening day, which honestly is probably the worst day to judge a restaurant . But somehow, it felt like they had it all under control. We were welcomed with complimentary Assam tea served in the cutest little clay pots, and it was so refreshing. We also got to try their new cocktail menu, which was really good. The Old Fashioned is amazing, BTW! We wanted to try EVERYTHING on the menu because this is such a special addition to the area, especially being a restaurant representing Northeast Indian cuisine, with a special focus on Assam. And no, please don't confuse Northeast India with Nepal. Appetizers We tried the lotus stem, chaat and pani puri. This was my first time having lotus stem as a restaurant appetizer, and I absolutely devoured it! We were a large group, and I thought the portion sizes were generous and great for sharing. Main Course One thing I really appreciated is that many of the dishes aren't overly spicy, making this a very kid-friendly place while still showcasing the flavors of the region. We ordered the pomfret, stir-fried noodles, Fish Tenga, which is tomato-based, goat curry, dal and Black Sesame Pork. There was so much I wanted to try! Dessert I really wanted the cheesecake, but by this point we were ALL so full. My kid went for the fried ice cream and honey noodles, and those honey noodles were fantastic. Perfectly fried and not overly sweet. I did not get a share of the ice cream. For a brand-new restaurant, on their very first grand opening day, with curious first-time guests, repeat customers, a packed menu and a million things happening at once, I'd say the team at Khaar absolutely nailed it. They drank from the firehose of restaurant operations with a smile, patience and genuine effort to make every customer feel taken care of. Congratulations to the entire Khaar team! What a wonderful addition to our community. I can't wait to come back and try the dishes we didn't get to this time.

We went with a big group so ordered a bunch of food - all of it was excellent! So good we couldn't even wait to take pics! But the standout dishes for me personally were the 3 mains - Branzino Tenga, Claypot Goat Chops and the Black Sesame Pork. We also had the Fish Croquettes which were excellent! I wish we had some more space in our bellies because I really wanted to try the bamboo shoot dishes but next time!

Nope, I wouldn't come back here again. I was going to give 2 stars but the very end of service did it for me. We were sitting at the medium of the area and probably received the least eyes on us. Tldr, terrible service, good food, great looks, worth like 1/2 the price they're charging. I'll start with the best first. The place looks great. Good lightning, modern, but still thematic. Definitely looks like a good date spot. It's not, but it looks like one. The food is good too and the presentation is on point. The croquettes aren't too fishy and come with just enough sauce. For the cauliflower steak, the pickled mango and the spinach were excellent, the papad presentation looked amazing, and the steak was good. The eastern coconut was reminiscent of tom kha with a lot of fish sauce. It's salty which I enjoy, but do be mindful before you order it. We got everything at a medium spice which I would say is about as spicy as a shishito pepper or 1/8th of a seedless jalapeno. Now the service, that was horrendous. We were initially seated by a lady who handed us our menu, gave us our water. I've worked at a Punjabi place before, and we did the no dedicated server thing there. That's what I'm guessing they do here too, else our initial server just left us. We then sat there for ~20 minutes, mind you we're in the middle of the dining room, and no one comes to us. I glared at what I assume to be the manager/owner several times. I saw another lady, might also be a manager/owner talk to other customers around us. We eventually flag someone down and I guess they're serving us now. But not really, because we never really heard from them again. We went there appetizer, soup, and entree, where I had finished my water during appetizer, and it wasn't ever refilled. When we were done with our meal, the guy who I guess is the manager/owner comes over and asks how it was, and only then did we get a refill. He asks for feedback and seemed receptive when we relayed our terrible experience. So I'm like ok, two stars it is. But then, when he relayed it to his worker, his worker tells us we told him we never got our soup?!?! That's not what we said at all and with that, we're here at 1 Star and a horrendous experience. Also we asked for no raw onion in our food and they instead brought us a dish of just raw onions. This level is fine for a $14/person establishment. This is a $30/person place. I've had better service at buffets.

Black sesame heritage chicken was not what I expected - tasted almost like saag/palak curry, without the nutty/earthy flavor i expected from sesame. Chicken wasn't as tender either. Goat claypot chops was good, tender meat, and the curry was flavorful. The naga chili smoked chicken isnt a dry tossed meat, it wasn't very spicy and was okay. Overall for the price, it was just a bit disappointing!

Reasonable upscale dining with friendly and prompt service. The ambiance with earthy color and tones that are pleasant to the eyes with original Indian wall pieces. Food was delicious and well seasoned. Mixed drinks were pleasant as well. Highly recommend this place.

I come from the place where Khaar's cuisines come from. So, it won't be hard to imagine how excited I was to even hear of the idea of a restaurant like Khaar. North East Indian cuisine differs so much from the mainstream Indian cuisine in terms of spices, flavors, and the texture. I truly recommend any food lover to try this place. They have done a great job in maintaining the authenticity of the cuisine. The place has a great ambience too! My fav is their naga smoked chilli chicken and of course, the Assam tea.

tried a few other food options this time around and food was delicious, guava cocktail is a must try - very well made and love the chaat + guava flavor. naga smoked chili is nice and spicy with soft pieces of chicken and not too much oil. the chaat was delicious and uniquely presented. service was great with multiple people checking in on us and asking if we liked the food. there were some old pop songs playing in the background as well, which my fiance and i really enjoyed.

Khaar with it's fusion north eastern food has potential to help transform Sunnyvale downtown into something comparable to famous eating places like LFK in Hong Kong or Lau Pa Sat in Singapore. Next time you are tired of the usual joints, try Khaar. Awesome food, decor, run by great folks!

Great upscale North Indian food. Service was fast, and the interior was modern and classy. The chili chicken was our highlight!

    Khaar philosophy

Fantastic! Went during soft opening and am looking forward to coming back again after the grand opening. Restaurant decor represents the culture of the food. The food is delicious (can't go wrong with any dish!) a favorite one is the Conjj soup (grandma's soup). All the dishes are unique, while the spices are not overpowering at all. Everything is delicious and easy on the tummy because they are not using heavy creams, to my understanding. Definitely get the mango lassi!!! And the mango dessert ... Thank you chef and team!

    Tenga

First and foremost food was amazing! NorthEast Indian cuisine truly exceptional and different from most other Indian dishes, amazingly they serve pork a rarity in Indian Cuisine. Staffs were amazingly attentive to our request and needs and super friendly. Price was reasonable for most dishes. However the Branzino Tenga fish fillet little pricey$40 for one piece only. And the Khaar Smoke pork little dry but savory. Just few hiccups but will definitely come back to try other dishes. Love the ambiance and smiling staffs.

    Croquettes

Wow this new restaurant is amazing!! Service is excellent and staff was extra welcoming. We tried signature croquettes, black sesame chicken, and garlic fried rice...every bite was delicious!! Khaar is a new favorite spot and we will definitely be back to try more on their unique menu. Delightful fusion of flavors that we have not experienced before, both exotic and comforting at the same time. Highly recommend to all!!!

The order was ready 10 minutes earlier than scheduled. Located in Arques Plaza, next to Metro Burger and Subway, Tong Sui sits prominent. The parking spaces closest to Tong Sui is ample. The pick up area and register is visible immediately upon entering. The cashier shared a friendly, warm smile and assisted with my pickup order immediately. The line upon entering had about ten people waiting to order around 6:30PM on a Saturday. Our order consisted of: 1 - Peach & Lychee Cheezo ($9.95) with honey boba ($1) 1 - Black Sesame Hojicha Latte (8.50) with honey boba ($1) 2 - Osmanthus Oolong Tea Latte ($5.95) with honey boba ($1) 1 - Mango Sticky Rice Coconut Pudding ($10.95) Verdicts: Osmanthus Oolong Tea Latte - very nutty and earthy flavor profile, at regular sweet I feel like it's too sweet but it was purchased for my daughter and husband. My daughter is not a fan even though she liked this tea at a different shop with the same selection options. I like it, Even with the prominent profile, the flavors are true to its name, well balanced and complex. If you are not into a strong earthy flavor, this is not for you - I personally enjoy it. Peach & Lychee Cheezo - this is the drink that sold me on trying Tong Sui. Blended peach skin on with Cheezo foam I have never had at regular sweet is not sweet. Think drinking a ripe piece of fruity, juicy and oh so satisfying. That is this drink. My daughter enjoyed it so much it is now hers. I at least got two sips. This is definitely a fan favorite because my husband wished he had chosen this one. Black Sesame Hojicha Latte - Hojicha is one of my favorite teas, never had it paired with black sesame and definitely never had peanuts added. This flavor profile intrigued me so much so I had to try it. At less sweet it is still slightly sweet and still perfection. The peanuts give it a nutty flavor profile with the roasted green tea and black sesame adding an additional nutty, smoky, earthiness. I love! The drink is creamy, rich, nutty and perfect. Think a luscious blended black sesame shake, so good! Mango Sticky Rice Coconut Pudding - served as my breakfast this morning. Kept refrigerated, it was perfect the next day. The mango tastes fresh, bright and sweet. The puddling was creamy, thick, coconut forward and light. The sticky rice complimented and balanced out the other two ingredients, making it the perfect bite. Whether I was eating the mango solo, the pudding with the mango or all three at once, each bite was truly satisfying. It was very filling. Would I return, most definitely when I am back in the area. Wish the other locations were closer to where I frequent. Other locations include Campbell, Milpitas, Palo Alto, Valley Fair and Redwood City.

Interior is very neutral/beige with the pops of color coming from some plants scattered inside the space. There's WiFi available and for 6pm on a Saturday, it was empty. We ordered two cakes: pandan raspberry and a tiramisu. Both were really well layered but it tasted like the tiramisu had far more cake layers than the pandan raspberry. The pandan raspberry was more raspberry with minimal pandan flavor. The tiramisu tasted just like its name and was great! Both were very lightly sweet cakes, and it was surprisingly easy for my friend and I to devour two slices and still feel ready for dinner later. I wouldn't get the pandan raspberry again, but would be willing to try other slices with how the tiramisu was. The downside is the cakes are pricey. And it feels the interior can't decide if it's trying to be minimal on purpose, or the furnishings were meant for a smaller space/grab-and-go only spot originally but then they moved to a larger location with seating. Good cakes, I would consider swinging by here to pick up a slice for a special occasion.

I sat down and realized they were a whole 10+ orders behind, meaning I waited at least 25mins before getting my bingsu! I ordered a honeydew yogurt bingsu and it was $20. Inflation may be a little crazy, but this was a little above what I was expecting. It came with about 1/2's worth of honeydew. The bowl was not topped with bingsu, and I felt like there are more melons than bingsu (not ok). There were some sweet cheese pieces inside (yummy), some unsweetened frozen yogurt, and the rest was yogurt flavored bingsu. Although healthy, the bingsu itself was NOT sweet enough and I felt sick after eating so much unsweetened yogurt. I wish they gave us a cup of condensed milk like they do at every other bingsu place... Service was slow and everything is self serve, from getting your bingsu at the front to bussing your tray. I do believe there are other bingsu spots in Bay Area that give a similar experience with more variety and better pricing. I do not look forward to waiting almost 30min after spending $20 for a bingsu that's only half bingsu with honeydew layered on top.
