After my first visit, I know I will be coming for a long time to come. My partner and I came here on Friday night and despite not having reservations, we were able to snag a seat outdoors immediately (indoors would have been a wait so if that is what you're looking for, I highly recommend reservations). The place itself is really cute and has am aesthetic vibe. I have heard that the indoor section can get really loud but that is not at all an issue with the outdoor seating. Our server, Pedro, was incredibly kind and attentive. He took the time to ask about dietary restrictions and marked up the menu so we know exactly what we could eat. He was also just a real fun server and made our experience even better! As for food itself, words can't describe how good it was! - We got a few drinks to start. I ended up having their aperol drink (it came with an ice cube made of aperol as well!) and an everything martini (think of an everything bagel but in martini form. yes, you read that right). Both were good but I definitely preferred the the aperol drink (it's just more up my alley) - We opted for the traditional hummus for our first visit and it was great. I'll def be trying their grilled corn one next. - The whipped feta deserves its own review because nothing should be this delightful! So light and garlicky. My partner doesn't like sweet things so he was a little nervous about the hot honey but its so subtle. - The frena (bread) that comes with the dips is the perfect compliment - The smashed cucumbers were refreshing and did not taste anything like I expected it to (in the best way possible). I thought I knew what it would be but it was something else entirely. - We ended up sharing the mushroom skewers which could easily feed two people, especially with how many other things we ordered. Overall, it was an incredibly experience and we will be back to try more menu items (which change seasonally!) and to have some dessert which we didn't have during this visit as we were so incredibly full.

It's true that KG BBQ brings a unique twist to the Austin BBQ scene, and a significant part of that is their flavorful rice. Here's a review that incorporates that: "Okay, so I finally made it to KG BBQ, and let me tell you, the hype is real. It's that kind of place where you walk in, and you just *smell* the love that's gone into the food. I went on a Saturday afternoon, and yeah, there was a bit of a line, but it moved pretty quickly. The staff were super friendly, which always makes a difference. I ordered the brisket, of course, because, come on, it's Austin. But, I also ordered one of their rice bowls, and that was a great decision. The brisket? Melt-in-your-mouth tender. Seriously, the smoke ring was gorgeous, and the bark had that perfect peppery crunch. It wasn't overly sauced, which I appreciate, because the flavor of the meat really shone through. Now, about that rice: it's not your standard BBQ side. It's a Mediterranean-style rice, with those wonderful warm spices like cinnamon and turmeric. It's moist, and the candied nuts and pomegranate seeds add a delightful sweetness and crunch. It really elevates the whole meal. It's not just a filler side, it's a feature. Honestly, it's not the cheapest BBQ in town, but you definitely get what you pay for. The quality of the meat and the attention to detail is evident, especially in that rice. It's a no-frills kind of place, focused on serving up really good BBQ with those unique middle eastern influences. If you're looking for that classic Austin BBQ experience, but want something a little different, KG BBQ is definitely worth a visit. Just be prepared for a potential wait, and come hungry!" read more

Came to KG BBQ in Austin with a group of friends after remembering them from Netflix's Barbecue Showdown. We had high expectations, and this place did not disappoint! What makes KG BBQ stand out is its unique blend of Texas-style BBQ with Egyptian and Middle Eastern flavors. We've all had plenty of brisket, beef ribs, and pork ribs, but how often do you find a BBQ joint specializing in smoked lamb? Since we came with a group, we ordered a little bit of everything. Our favorites were the lamb chops, lamb bacon ribs, and sumac and cinnamon lamb shoulder. All three were well seasoned, smoky, and surprisingly not gamey at all. The brisket was okay, and the homemade sausage was decent, but neither really stood out compared to other Texas BBQ spots we've tried. One of my favorite combinations was stuffing the pita bread with smoked lamb shoulder, tahini, and spicy chimichurri. The flavors worked perfectly together and offered something different from your typical BBQ experience. The sides were also a hit, especially the mac and cheese and Egyptian baladi salad. The salad was refreshing and helped balance out the richness of the meats. The ambiance is casual with outdoor patio seating, while the indoor space has a brewery and pizza spot. It's a great place to hang out with friends. Parking was easy with plenty of spaces available. Overall, KG BBQ is worth visiting for its unique take on Texas BBQ, especially the smoked lamb. I'd definitely come back when I'm in Austin. If you're strictly looking for brisket and beef ribs, I'd recommend Franklin Barbecue instead. But if you want something different, KG BBQ is worth adding to your list! read more

Hands down our fave bbq joint in Austin. We've been big fans since the truck opened at Oddwood back in '22! Why? I'll tell ya: KG BBQ completely redefines what Texas barbecue can be by fusing classic low-and-slow smoking techniques with vibrant Egyptian flavors. Having ran into the owner, Kareem, at a show over at Sahara, I can confirm he's genuinely one of the nicest, most down-to-earth guys in the local food scene, and that same warmth carries right over into his cooking. The menu trades standard white bread and heavy sides for light, aromatic Mediterranean rice, fresh baladi salad, and warm pita. The star of the show might just be the pomegranate-glazed pork ribs, which carry a perfect balance of smoky oak and tangy-sweet molasses, though the sumac-rubbed lamb shoulder and traditional kofta skewers are equally spectacular. It's an incredibly unique, refreshing break from the usual heavy barbecue fatigue, making it an absolute must-visit destination on Manor Road. read more

KG BBQ is such a unique and memorable stop in Austin! Their Egyptian inspired take on Texas BBQ is incredible, pairing rich, savory meats with fresh and bright ingredients like cucumber and pomegranate. It creates a balance of flavors that feels both comforting and refreshing at the same time. We ordered the brisket bowl, and it was outstanding! The brisket was tender and smoky, and the toppings really made it shine. The pomegranate and candied nuts added sweetness and texture that balanced the richness of the meat perfectly. Every bite felt thoughtfully put together. This place is clearly a fan favorite! The line was long, but it moved quickly and was absolutely worth the wait. Definitely a must-visit if you are exploring the Austin food scene. I will absolutely be stopping by again next time I am in town! read more

I've been excited to try KG BBQ for a while and finally made my way to the truck - it did not let me down! First, I gotta give a shout out to the team on the truck. They were cranking everything out so quickly, especially for a BBQ truck! Super grateful, appreciative, and impressed by that! When it comes to the food, everything was solid! This is my rank of what I had: pomegranate pork ribs, Mac and cheese, sausage, and brisket. The seasoning on the pomegranate pork ribs was so unique that it made all the difference and was fantastic. The Mac and cheese also had incredible flavor with the zaatar on top, and it was so darn cheesy! I loved it! I'm not knocking the sausage or brisket, but the others stood out immensely. Altogether, I'd definitely recommend trying KG BBQ! Such a unique and fun flavor! read more

I recently visited KG BBQ and tried the lamb chops, sausage, mac and cheese, and potato salad -- everything was outstanding! The lamb chops were the star of the show -- perfectly seasoned and cooked just right with a nice smoky char. For sides, the mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and comforting without being too heavy, and the potato salad was fresh -- the perfect contrast to the smoky meats. The staff were friendly and quick, and the atmosphere had that laid-back. We went towards the end of the day so they had already sold out of about half the menu, but we liked what we ordered! Overall, KG BBQ delivers on both flavor and vibe -- definitely worth a visit if you're craving quality barbecue with a unique twist. read more

KG is one of my favorite new barbecue spots in Austin! They serve Egyptian-inspired Texas barbecue, which is a really refreshing addition to the barbecue scene in Austin. Unsurprisingly, the lamb here is fantastic, and the north African spices and seasoning really elevate all the meats. The pita and veggies were a good way to eat the chopped lamb and balance it with some carbs. I'd totally recommend this place for anyone wanting a great barbecue experience in Austin. I highly recommend visiting this Egyptian-inspired Texas BBQ food truck!! We went an hour before closing, and there was no wait line, but some food were sold out. Despite that, we got to try the lamb chop and chicken rice bowl, and they did not disappoint. While it was a bit on the expensive side ($26 total), the flavors and unique fusion of Egyptian and Texan cuisines made every bite worth it. The weather was unbearably hot which also affected our visit because we couldn't eat outside. The issue: The dining room is small and can only hold so many people. We ordered quickly and the food was ready almost immediately. But we had no where to sit! So we stood there with food in hand (kinda in the way of the workers and other patrons) waiting for people to vacate. Part of the problem was there were two tables occupied without any food and they were just talking. At other places, this is awesome. But a place with limited seating: nope! So our food was cold and the grits congealed while we waited to sit down. The service: all of the staff we interacted with were kind, friendly, and helpful. They were a highlight of our visit. The sides: We had the Green Chili Grits and the Potato Salad. Both were excellent but the potato salad was maybe the best I've ever had. For me, it was perfection because it wasn't too "wet" and the dill was just a fantastic add. The meats: We had the beef brisket and the sausage. Both were very good. I preferred the sausage but maybe just got a less than perfect piece of the brisket. The parking: also not great. There is street parking but also a back lot they direct you to off of Springdale. But they don't really have a safe/marked path to get you to the building. Just loose gravel where you're at risk of an ankle sprain. Maybe they will consider expanding the inside space? That would really help. I'd still come back because the food was really fantastic, but only for take out where I wouldn't have to deal with parking or finding/waiting for a table.

After a mediocre experience, I was excited to be able to try Franklin's again fresh. We got to Franklins maybe a bit after noon? The line was out the back and down the street, not as long as I envisioned actually. There are folks outside who help you decide exactly how much to order and boy was she wrong. I felt like she overestimated, way overestimated for our group of like 10. The line moved slowly.. and when I got inside, I realized why. The counter area is small and they literally only serve one guest at a time. We probably spent 1-1.5 hours in line?! Not so bad for a Saturday, especially showing up a bit late. There is a small-ish area inside for seating and a small area outside, the place wasn't large by any means. However, we were lucky to have a large party leave right when we were ordering so we could all sit inside together. The meats were tender, a good mix of moist and lean. There was a nice smoke ring and a nice bark on the brisket. The meats were seasoned well. We were lucky enough to get the last of the ribs, tender, seasoned well and falls off the bone with a bite at the same time. I think the ribs were totally worth it... brisket was good, tender, moist, seasoned well.. did it stand out compared to other bbq I've tried?! Maybe not but I can see why it's rated up there. The sides were also good, as well as the sauces. Wish they moved faster, but no real complaints. I ordered the brisket, pork ribs, green beans and creamed corn. The sides were great! I really enjoyed the cream corn, the bite on the greens beans were perfect; although I prefer a little more seasoning. The pork ribs also had a great bite and crust, 8/10. The brisket was good, I just prefer my brisket a little more moist, 6.5/10. Overall I would come back!!
