The burrito seemed to be about 90% rice. For nearly $23, I expected the asada to have a starring role--not a brief cameo. I found myself digging through the burrito like I was on an archaeological expedition looking for carne asada. Every time I found a tiny piece, I felt like I should yell, "WE GOT ONE!" Unfortunately, the few pieces I did find were cut into very small squares and had very little flavor. I grew up in a family that made a lot of carne asada, so my personal preference is well-seasoned meat with some char on the outside while staying juicy inside. This was very different. I understand every chef has their own style, and I'm definitely not saying my family's way is the only way to make asada. But if I'm paying almost $23 for an asada burrito, I shouldn't need a search party to locate the asada. That said, I don't like tearing down people who are putting themselves out there and trying to build something.
