Originally headquartered in Forest Hills, just a stones throw from 71st Continental Ave, Kew has been servicing our neighborhood for thirty plus years. A neighbors recommendation shone a light, so glowing upon their work and the workers themselves. So definitive were their rave reviews that when their entire bathroom needed a retrofit of shower body, toilet, sink, vanity, etc -- I knew whom my neighbor would call as the trucks appeared at the front of the property, ready to perform their tasks. Now I do not claim to be the world's most observant man, nor one of any particular legitimate technical capacities, however, I can appreciate quality workmanship when I see it and see it I did, when trouble came a knocking in Glenn V"s humble abode. Cutting a four inch waste pipe that was on the receiving end if improper stuffing and flushing, unearthing and carving out the ten foot run of iron pipe, cutting & removing the troubled section, reconstructing the 'T' 45*? (are ya noticing the incorrect technical terms yet?) Prior plumbing companies occasionally take a few midday trips to "the supply house" but Kew came prepared, completing the repair with no return trips as experienced professionals would do. So when my broiler began to lack proper heat output in early December, I immediately contacted Kew. Within a few hours I had their top technician come to my steam heated house. Bill diagnosed the trouble and two workers went to work early the very next morning, during the busy time of the season. And as neighbors, friends and associates share opinions of local professionals (IE: doctors of all disciplines, lawyers and lawyers) ranging from, but not limited to: -Overall experience given the X number of years interacting. -Highly skilled in their toil. George - Glendale, NY I just had a faucet replaced in our bathroom sink. They were polite, professional and neat. After they left, I noticed the hot and cold water lines were reversed. I called the plumber that had done the job and he immediately contacted the office and within 30 minutes two other plumbers can back and fixed the problem. We had a gas leak and our service was shut down. We called Kew Forest for the first time and was helped by Paul. Paul was very professional and explained the process to us in great detail. Key Forest Plumbing & Heating came to my house in early November because my steam boiler would not start. They said there was no power and told me I had to hire a specialized electrician to rewire everything (they even advised one). They stayed 10 minutes, told me there was nothing they could do and charged me $277 for the visit. I called another company who found the issue right away. It was the transformer which they said is a common issue. They confirmed the boiler had power all along, changed the part in 10 minutes and the boiler was fixed. Super responsive. Sound professional. We spent 2k on them to fix our heater last year and liked their work. We had a different heater problem and their team this year said they'd never have recommended the work done last year. Now they want us to replace our entire heater system for 13k. And on top of that they charged us $250+ to do zero work disappointed. read more

Absolutely the worst!! The tech and his sidekick cane to replace a water heater which was leaking, not flooding the basement. Easy enough job. However, they piped it incorrectly, a building violation, did not vent it properly, another buildIng violation. All the while they were complaining that they had to get outta there, cause it's Friday?!?! And needed to get to their fav bar!! They did make time to rob all the old copper parts, so they could make some side money, and crapping in my toilet, leaving a diaherrea and stench.... Would I recommend them? On one of the coldest days (overnight low of 8 degrees Fahrenheit) in 20 years and with a baby in the house, our boiler went out. I called eight plumbers, including our usual emergency plumbing company, leaving frantic messages for someone, anyone, to come take a look. A few couldn't make it until morning, and most didn't return calls. A plumber from Kew Forest was the only one who called me back, talked me through the problem, suggested a few fixes and eventually came out in the blustery cold to take a look. Not what they used to be. I used them about 10 years ago and they did a good job with my base board heating but now a different story.In April I called them to check out my boiler because I was losing water and the boiler was cycling on every hour. I asked them to come for a furnace tune up and said it would be $180 to come out. A worker shows up close to on time and ask what is the problem. I explain the issue and he goes down to the boiler and doesn't ask me to turn up the heat to check out the boiler. I said the tune up should include checking the mechanicals, checking the burner/flame and check for leaks (that's what they told me on the phone). He tells me nothing is wrong and wants to leave in 10 minutes. I said that is not worth $180 and you did nothing to check out my problem, didn't even open up the boiler cover to check the flame or anything. I ask him to check the balance on the radiators and says he will replace a vent and it should be fine, (Note that he gave me a Maid O'Mist vent that you can get from Home Depot for 8 bucks and wanted to charge me 25. I said don't you have a better brand than that Home Depot crap, maybe a Hoffman, he said he ran out of them..). He said everything is fine and leaves. The next morning the problem still persist, I call the office and I'm rudely told that his plumber checked out the problem and nothing is wrong. I said I want someone to come out and recheck it and again the person on the phone who was the "foreman" was yelling at me saying it's most likely a leak somewhere in my pipes, I said how would you know that by sitting in your office??. He continued to give me every reason why it wasn't working and was very nasty. I had enough and drove down to the office and confronted this guy in person. When I got there and asked who was taking rudely to me on the phone, he shut up his mouth and I proceeded to light him up and in front of his co-workers, he had nothing else to say and had to have one of the ownwers come out and rescue him. The owners came out and said "we don't need your business" and said they won't come back to fix my problem. This is the way they operate now, they do crappy work and when you confront them questioning there work...they fire you!. What a joke this place is. Word on the street is that they hire sub par plumbers for residential work and hope for the best. By the way, I had another local plumber come in and check out the furnace. within 10 minutes they found a crack in the boiler. The plumber said how did the prior guys miss this, I said it was Kew Forest and the plumber said "not a surprise, those guys have gone downhill" I had the new guys install my new boiler and they did an awesome job, very clean and professional. Stay away from Kew Forest. They missed out on a $8,000 boiler job because of their incompetence. read more

I rarely write reviews, good or bad, but after spending $11k with this company, I should probably share my experience so it doesn't happen to anyone else. A year ago, post Hurricane Sandy, I would have given rave reviews to Kew Forest Plumbing. I was eager to get a new boiler and water heater installed and didn't want to wait for Rapid Repairs so I spent the $8000 for a "reputable" licensed plumber to have it done. I was so happy with the speed and ease of the process that I had them come back to re-run my gas lines for another $3000. A short time after the installation, I noticed a smell of gas coming from around the water heater area. Called them. They showed up (same technicians who did installation) and said they did not detect any gas smell. In trying to convince me there was no leak, they sprayed their detector. I saw it bubble. "No, no, that's not bubbling. It's just the foam dripping down." So, to make me feel better, they tightened the pipes. I stood there as the technician called the office to let them know that there wasn't a leak and I just smelled the boiler turning on. Wouldn't you know it, though? After pretending to tighten the pipes, I never smelled gas again. The job was supposed to be filed with DOB and never was. I also called them to supply me with the pressure test results to forward to the gas company so I could add an additional meter and my phone calls were not returned. I doubt they ever ran the test. Anyway, fast forward to last weekend when the boiler cut out. The office is closed on weekends so I left a message on the emergency voicemail. A technician called back but informed me that I would be charged and he really didn't feel like schlepping allll the way out to Rockaway anyway (not in those words). Since I don't believe that I should pay a penny to repair a less-than-year-old boiler and I worried about getting reimbursed, I chose to wait until Monday. It's now Tuesday and they are saying that they can't get over to the house until Wednesday. They were the only ones who had boilers handy after the storm a year ago and were able to install immediately. As happy as I was then, do you know what I think now? Horrible! Called them to have them service our radiators and boiler.... Let's begin with how terribly they operate- the person in your house takes a picture and sends it to the office where that person directs the other guy on how to fix it. Fir $250+ an hour send me a guy who knows what he's doing!! Next, whatever was "fixed" did nothing. The radiator didn't let out more steam, the room was not warmer! Then, they decided to touch our boiler but didn't have a replacement part or couldn't fix it due to the office not having something so it was left as is!! The boiler started to leak so I called them to let them know about the shotty work done. Spoke to Paul in the office who of course had a different account of what happened. He told me he would call the service men then call me back. One business day passes and I didn't get a call so I had my husband call instead. Mysteriously, Paul was never around that day to speak to him once my husband gave his identifying information! Our calls were dodged...hey Paul still waiting on that call back! Well we got their mess fixed by a professional who actually knew what he was doing. That person pointed out the issues we did have with other radiators that those guys completely missed. We hired Kew Forest to handle the plumbing work for our kitchen gut-renovation and had a great experience with them. The phone reps are extremely courteous and thorough -- they even called to follow-up with us during a lull in the project when we hadn't called them back to finish out the job. They always called back promptly with answers to questions. The technicians were courteous and did the job quickly. We had them hook up sink and faucet to existing plumbing, hook up new range to gas line, install and hook up a dishwasher line and refrigerator ice-maker water line. Never much of a delay in getting appointments, and they always showed up on time. (Helps if you request 8am time slots, since it's their first job of the day.) read more

What kind of company doesn't give estimates? I called and they said, "220 an hour," plus parts. But they won't even begin to guess how long it will take, or what parts they will need. If they can't, how would I know? When I asked if I could send pictures she said, "well you COULD but I wouldn't be able to guess how long it will take." I asked if there was anybody who could? "No, we charge an hourly rate." I asked why I would ever commission something not knowing what I would be charged, and she said, that's the way we work, and got very hostile. Why would I ever buy anything not knowing what the price was? An hourly rate is meaningless without having some idea of how long it will take to fix (or even a rough estimate on parts price). Called and spoke to someone to try get an estimate for work I am trying to get done for a remodeling of my kitchen. The woman on the phone kindly explained that someone will call me back to explain estimates. I was called the next day and told the rate is $175 an hour which is understandable and from what I found the going rate. I explained I would really need someone to come to my apt to take a visual look and give me a "rough" estimate, understanding it is just that, a rough estimate. I wanted to know if I'm looking at a couple hours of work or possibly a day or two. When it you are talking about $175 an hr, for an avg person myself on a extremely strict budget there is a huge difference there. Apparently her answer was that they just are so busy that it wouldn't be possibly, and hinting worth it for someone to come out just to give me an estimate. Great way to attract a new customer. I am a local resident, first time customer looking for a company I could use not only for this project but for further problems as a reliable plumber for further use but apparently my business isn't worth the look. I will never tell anyone not to use a company because that's their own business and you are free and willing to make your own opinion. Just giving you my encounter and experience. read more

The hourly rate is kinda pricey $260 (not the cheapest around) but they did a good emergency fix & even had the parts with him on hand. We give Kew Forest Plumbing & Heating our highest recommendation. They are honest and provide the highest quality work. We have been with them for years(annual boiler inspections) but, recently, they really came through. Our gas company inspection found a gas leak that required immediate repair so we reached out to KF for help. If you have ever had this happen, you know that it can be very nerve-racking. Paul, the owner, and his office staff were super responsive. He took all the information we could provide and described potential causes and possible solutions. Shortly thereafter we had a crew on-site working on the problem. Paul's crew was very professional and friendly and answered all our questions. They came on time, gave me an outline as to the work needed to be done. Two days later they started at 8am. Finished at 3pm. removed toilet, removed lead bend connected to main sewer stack, installed new PVC from toilet to stack, installed new flange and wax ring, installed plywood form under floor and filled with thinset. I did a major renovation of my Cape cod house, turning the upstairs 2 bedroom 1 bath into 3 bedrooms and 2 baths, and installing a new heating system there as well. Kew Forest handled all the plumbing and heating issues flawlessly. The installation of our new boiler in the basement was seamless as well, and so professionally done. Last thursday I called Kew Forest plumbing to get an estimate for replacing a gas boiler unit. the other estimates I got where around $6,500.00. Not a small job, for most homeowners. They told me an estimator would get back to me to make an appointment. That call was made Thursday last week, today is Monday, not having heard from them I called and explained that I had not heard from their estimator, After being put on hold the person then told me that an estimator would call me "back within the next few days". At that point I expressed outraged and said "you're kidding me" she replied "No, it depends on their schedules" I then asked confirmation that even just the callback from the estimator could take "a few days" and said that if I put that on the internet nobody would ever call them again. I then told her the conversation was being recorded and would be put it on the internet. Her only response was "OK". read more

While originally they got five stars, about a year ago when they did work for us, evidently things have changed there and they have hired at least one sub-standard worker (our luck). Bob O. must have gotten the same technician that we did - useless. I highly recommend Kew Forest. They just did the most fantastic job with a difficult situation in our home...a slow leak coming from somewhere. We couldn't figure it out. You see, unbeknownst to us, a pipe had been leaking slowly for weeks...maybe months...and suddenly all the water collected in the ceiling and then the ceiling weakened and the water came crashing down into our bathroom floor from the apartment above (two family house). We called at 7:15 a.m. and a team showed up before 8 a.m. They found the source of the leak -- worked very methodically ...and while they worked, they checked in every hour or so to let us know how things were going. They were nice, and conscientious and very good at explaining the plumbing situation, showed us the faulty pipe and explained how much of the pipe they needed to replace. When they left, everything was incredibly clean. Not a spec of plaster. Or dirt. Heck, they even wiped down the wall where the rusty water left a stain. And then this...they carefully covered the opened ceiling where the new pipe was installed, with heavy transparent plastic so the insurance adjuster could see everything and so that no more dust would come into the house. Kew Forest even took pictures of the old pipes and the open ceiling so we could send them to the adjuster. They turned an awful situation into something easy to deal with and stress free. AWESOME! The last several days the windchill & temps have been below 0....so on a freaking Holiday Monday Afternoon Emergency our pipes froze then burst. a waterfall from the attic!! I called KFP&H (based on a friend and former customer who says he knows lots of people that love them!)..Jennifer picks up tells me all the workers are busy..but "i'll call you back in five minutes" ..only a couple minutes later "I got 2 guys on the way..be there in an hour" In less than 45 mins. John + Luigi showed up and in superhero precision spread out and rapidly went to work!! Working on 2 levels..running up and down stairs, checking, testing, welding, fixing..like lighning! They even helped with cleanup!! Dude!!(^_^) I'd recommend them anytime. My wife's a real estate property mgr. and she's keeping their card for future mishaps. We came in contact with Kew Forest Plumbing when Bill Wagner came to make a bid on redoing our bathroom about 20 years ago. I had been given a 10 page agreement by another contractor for the bathroom and was overwhelmed. Bill asked some questions and said he would get me a written contract the next day. The contract was 1 page, but included everything. We went with Kew Forest. Bill provided places for tiles for floor and walls, and all the fixtures. It was easy for us to select everything. The plumbers, and subcontractor were so easy to work with. But better, they did great work, even asking to stay later and working through lunch to get the job done on time. They completed the job and came in on budget. Best of all we had a beautiful bathroom. Recently our boiler went and they are expensive. We needed an outside loan which required we have bids and go with the lowest bidder. Kew Forest came in second. We were so disappointed. Paul, due to our long relationship even offered us a payment plan, but we had already signed an agreement. Kew Forest charges by the hour and on two visits the bill was higher than we believed it should be. Once we spoke with them about it there was no problem. I hope they continue to do well. I called them for a shower head that needed replacing. I wasn't sure if it was the shower head or a problem with the pipes. They came on time diagnosed the problem and replaced the shower head with a nice new one. I was able to pay them by credit card over the telephone as I wasn't home at the time.
