It had good beer and good food. Arrived at 12:30 on a Saturday (30 minutes after opening) super busy the entire time! Due to the high volume it took us 2.5 hours to get a beer, wait for a table, sit and have lunch. Seems like the brewery would benefit from a "wait to be seated" sign or hostess to greet guests. New guests (including us) seemed confused on what to do when we walked in. The 2 waitresses on the floor who were straight out as were the 2 folks behind the bar assigning tables, pouring beer, and taking orders from guests there. We have been going to Kettlehead since they first opened and it's one of our favorite places. I'm not sure what's going on lately but today was our worst experience and have noticed a change with things lately. We arrived around 4 and there were not many people there. The food was so overcooked, it was barely edible. I'm not one to send food back so mustered through it. Hopefully it was just a bad day with the kitchen, but not a good impression for a first time visitor... hoping things get straightened out. We will be back again. read more

For food I got a buffalo chicken sandwich and it was overloaded with bleu cheese and that's all it tasted like. Also, the house pickles are sweet pickles. We just learned that this brewery opened a little more than 4 months ago and it's not yet on the official "NH Brewery Trail Map". We decided to give it a shot. Came here on a February Saturday afternoon around 4 pm. The place is crowded but had a few seats at the bar - but since we had our 3 yr old with us, we are not allow to sit there. The manager (?) was very sweet and told us there should be a table open up soon and she'll be able to seat us quickly. She suggested to order a beer while we wait - what a good idea! The list of beer they have is extensive... 11 beers on tap - I went with my instinct - chocolate stout. They offered in an 8 oz glass which is the perfect size for non-committal type - not too much in case the beer is bad, not too small in case the beer is good. In this case, it was a HOMERUN for me! I LOVE it. The stout was creamy, smooth, and deliciously flavored with a hint of chocolate. I was in love - one of the BEST chocolate stout I've ever had. While we waited, I was pretty impressed that this place is only open for 4 months and they seem to run pretty smoothly. The manager was really on top of everything. There was one table that had just left but left behind a sunglasses. The manager caught it right away and ran out to return the glasses before they got into the car. They could've easily just throw that in the "lost and found" bin. Thumbs up on service. We only waited maybe 10 minutes before seated. We ordered the sample flights to try the remaining 10 beers. Since taste preference is very different from person to person, I'm only giving our perspective on what we thought. There were 2 beers there that are OUTSTANDING - The Agent (unfiltered IPA) and the Mokaya Chocolate Stout. We would be perfectly happy drinking these all day. The rest of the beers were just OK - of course it could just be because we had such a high hope after the IPA and stout, the rest just couldn't compare. The Sour beer was too sweet and not sour enough and the Claymore (scotch ale, 10% ABV) would put some hair on your chest! We weren't too hungry and only tried their fried pretzels - but it was really good - crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside. The aioli dipping sauce cam with it was yummy too. From what we've seen on other table's orders, the food are pretty good. We left with 4 large cans of The Agent IPA. Unfortunately they can't put the stout in the can due to the nitro... we will definitely be back here again to get my stout crave and try their food. read more

So good - we went here for lunch. It was busy on a Tuesday - lots of space and we took a table in the back. We split the pretzels for an app - delicious. My daughter had the mac n cheese - we all stole a few bites and really liked it. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich - unreal! I got regular fries but should have got the parm fries as I tried my sisters and they were much better. My husband had a burger and I barely saw it - he loved it! The only miss was the lettuce cups - too much filling and too liquid to eat as a cup. It might have been better as a "fill your own" cup with lettuce on the side - my sister liked them but just too messy. Very clean restroom and bright fun space! read more

Cool atmosphere, but the music is just too loud. Oftentimes you end up having to yell over the music and the people around you who are also yelling to be heard of the music. The food is fantastic and unlike anything else you're going to find in the area. They're doing interesting things with ingredients that other restaurants simply aren't using. Beer: I would give the quality of their IPAs 5 stars. We particularly enjoyed the Dream Shift IPA, which reminded me of the Alchemist's Focal Banger. We got a 4 pack of the Dream Shift to take home. It was $19 for the 4 pack which seemed a bit expensive for buying it directly at the brewery compared to other breweries I've been to. I liked that they offered flights so that we could try several different beers. Food/Service: This is where there is room for some improvement. They had QR codes on the tables to scan for the menu, which was a bit confusing rather than just providing actual menus when we sat down. The server was attentive, but she had a trainee with her and it would have been nice if she let us know she was training someone rather than us having to assume what was going on. They seemed a bit rushed to turn our table over even though we were there at lunch and there were plenty of tables. We ordered the truffle fries and they were undercooked, which was disappointing. Conclusion: This is a great place to enjoy some high quality IPAs at the bar or take home cans. I would not recommend going there for a meal based on the service and food we had. read more

The place was busy so the servers were a bit busy. The wings were very well cooked and the pork pizza was made just right with some jalapeños. I had the rueben and it was effectively cheesy with just the right amount of protein. If the service was bit better and the steak tips didn't run out they would have the 5 star. The food was 3 worthy, just ok, but the service was awful. The beer was just ok, one I couldn't even drink. I found myself wondering how someone could enjoy an entire glass. Anyway, we got pepperoni pizza (just ok), poutine (I don't think these were cheese curds, but maybe just melted cheese that had hardened), and nachos. Also we didn't order the upcharge pulled pork, but you bet we got it. I liked the nachos but my husband didn't like the sweet taste of the jalapenos. At 9:15pm after they brought out the food they started to put the stools on the tables. Talk about a not so subtle way of kicking out a table of 6 45 minutes before you close on a Saturday! These reviews are completely bogus. Ran into the bar manager at another brewery and stopped by after our conversation. Well, the beer is really bloody good for NH, and I even picked up 2 four packs. The live music was loud indeed, but excellent and the musicians took requests - Lead Belly - In the Pines! I have not left a review in a long time, but if you enjoy a good time, good beer, etc. this is the spot, at least for Thursday nights. The bartenders were very attentive with beer orders, water refills (taking into account my request for no ice), and even mentioning that they are heading to the back for a meal and to request service from another designated bartender. This should be a seat yourself establishment like every other brewery I've been to. Want to know why? Because it works! I came here with family and it says to wait in line to get a table and beer. So we waited in the line while everyone else bought their beer in front of us. After waiting a good 10 mins to get to the cashier at the bar, we were told there was a wait list and it would be another 30 mins or so. There was no one else standing waiting, where are the other people that are waiting for a table? Sitting at the bar?! What a joke....needless to say we left. It would help if you told people before they started waiting that there is a long unforeseen wait. One of these days I'll make it back to try some beer....but I'll have to wait in line to see if there's a wait list.... Maybe a couple extra high tops would be nice, I don't necessarily need a fancy chair, just something to put my beer on. read more

I'm an avid beer lover. I do a lot of research involving local breweries before I visit them. I've heard good and bad things about the beer. I've heard the food is excellent. But here's my problem... I. Can't. Get. Near. The place. It's such a constant, busy environment that wait times for a simple two or three top are unreal. I went in yesterday with a friend of mine, expecting there to be AT LEAST a shadowy corner table somewhere that we could occupy...nothing. Not a table in sight was free. The wait time was over an hour...and we weren't about to be those people that stand in the middle of the aisles between tables thinking it's okay (it's actually against fire code...). So we decided to leave. We tried coming back today, to no avail. Full again. While I'm sure this is good news for the owners, it's not good news for prospective customers. Furthermore, while the place has a nice "modern industrial/rustic" feel to it, the sound reverberates off of the walls at an almost deafening level. Pack that place full, and you won't even be able to talk to your companion. The music is geared towards the "younger crowd"...Nirvana was blasted over the speakers the last time we walked in...not exactly welcoming for the older crowd. This was also reflected in the staff. It seems, from a distance anyways, the waitstaff are of the same "younger generation", eager to earn a quick buck, all the while selling beer that they probably know little about, let alone the brewing process itself. Im seriously considering giving up on this place. While I admire what they've done in a short amount of time, they need to revisit the drawing board on many things. Sorry if any of this is harsh, but first impressions are everything, and they are tanking big time in that department. Never had a bad experience here until now. Brought our son for dinner for his last soccer game of the year. Staff was short which is fine, knew it works be slow. Our food came out and my son didn't get his burger. Waited 25 minutes before approaching the waitress, she said she thinks she just got buzzed for it. 5 minutes later she comes and says all the food is here right? . We say no, missing a burger and fries. We then just ask for it to go. She says, sorry, the kitchen is backed up and it will be a while to get it. Not, sorry we forgot to put his food in, he will go ahead of everyone to correct our mistake. Unacceptable. Finally the manager came out with the food. Kettlehead is a brewery I've been looking forward to dining and drinking in since it opened. The episode on NH Chronicle helped drive home the point that, yes, this place looks amazing. I went on a Saturday afternoon knowing it may be a bit busy but was in the area. Luckily, my friends and I were able to grab seats at the bar. It started out great - the flights and beer both delicious. When we ordered, we got the pizza on special which costs slightly more than the other pizzas on the menu. After waiting approximately 30 minutes, the wrong flavored pizza came out. Knowing if was busy, my party figured it would be better not to bug the kitchen and began to eat the pizza. 20 minutes later, our REAL pizza comes out and come to find out another family has been waiting for their own. Though I'm not sure whose fault it was, the waitress claimed the reason we were being double charged was due to the "cranky cook". Never have I experienced this. Ok. This is my 3rd attempt to convey an accurate review of this place. Over most of the summer I had heard of a brewery coming into town and I have seen the work being done slowly to the building. So I had been very excited when they finally did open. My first visit was about two weeks after they had opened. My review of that experience was 2 out of 5 stars. My second visit was quite better. And I have been several additional times and they are impressing me more. I think they may have their rhythm now. Based on my last few visits, here is my review. The beer is the main course. It is very good. They have 10 on tap. I have had several that thought were ok, and a few that I thought were amazing!!. So try a flight and see what is good for you. The menu is a bit limited for what I would prefer, but I do respect their business model. So far I have had 3 things off the menu. First I had a salad and I was really not impressed. That salad was the only option and it was not good at all. It was not an entree salad at all and it was filled with some very weird stuff. My second meal there was the pizza. It was very good! fresh crust, very nice sauce. I had the hamburger the third time. The burger was a bit dry. I asked for mid rare and I got almost well. I know I could have sent it back, but I had waited for 20 minutes and I didnt want to wait for another burger. The fries were amazing. I would go back just for those. The beer is worth the trip, but a bulkier menu would be on my wishlist. I can't stand the chains around here, and there are just not that many places around. Lastly, I did express a few concerns about my first few experiences at Kettlehead in my original review, and I did hear from one of the owners. We went in this evening and there were 2 others parties waiting when we got in the door. The staff literally refused to make eye contact with any of us. the other party told us they'd been there for like 20 mins and the staff had done the same thing. Eventually i went up to the counter and flagged a staff member down, who literally refused to look at me and spoke to me over his shoulder Telling me that they didn't have a hostess so when they they had some tables (they had two open I could see from where I was standing) someone could come get us and seat us. Apparently they were under staffed, which is not the problem. We could have waited, seated ourselves, anything. But to be literally ignored by all the staff and then not even be given the courtesy of facing me to just let me know....somethinh. I'll be honest I have gone here before and it was great. After this never again. We went to Park Street tavern and had a great time. Too bad. I'd liked it, but I'm not going to be completely ignored. As you enter Kettlehead Brewery you will first notice the industrial mural and atmosphere with aged barn board and rustic flare. Second, you will see the lineup of taps and a large viewing window into the brewing area. The beer is delicious! They each have their own uniqueness but are all crushable! Even the 10% Scotch Ale (Claymore) is smooth, malty, and not overly boozy. Like their beer list, the menu is ever changing and evolving. Their hand tossed pizzas with fresh and unique topping are a perfect pairing with their beers. If it is your first time going to the pub, I recommend trying the hog wings (slow cooked hog shanks with Blackwater mustard glaze)! This area was starving for a place like this and is even a great place to catch some live music on occasion. Since their opening, the service has been ever improving and I never leave unsatisfied. Our party was greeted coldly in our quest for a table for 7 adults and one 18 month old. Our first choice given was a bar height table (not possible with a highchair), so we ourselves put 2 tables together and that was fine. It was 4:45 on a Wednesday, by 5:30 the parents of the 18 month old were asked to leave (worded this way: " some AH asked me to tell you to keep the child quiet") because a patron had complained about the child's screaming (true, he was loud but so was the music) The parents left just after getting their meal with no help from the waitress ( food boxes etc.) Ruined their night out. The bill totaled $200.00 The result of this is that all 7 of us won't be going back and we can't give our friends and neighbors a recommendation for the pub. Canterbury, NH read more
