Beer list 10/4/19

I stopped by here a couple of Friday nights ago with my wife for some afternoon drinks. We arrived to Shackets Brewing at 4 PM just as it was opening for the day and so we were initially the only people there. The inside of Shackets consists of a couple of bars and then some tables. They have some brewing equipment in plain view and, an oven that you can see as well and finally a white board food menu. While we were there the owner was prepping a few trays of their thick cut bacon which smelled and looked pretty amazing but I resisted in getting some. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I decided to go with a flight here. At Shackett's Brewing that consisted of four beers of my choosing and so I went with the Newfound Nutbrown, Pasquaney Bay IPA, Everlees Irish Red and West Shore Stout. The first beer that I tried was the Newfound Nutbrown which had a nice and smooth mouthfeel with a caramelly flavored finish. Second was the Pasquaney Bay IPA which was a smooth IPA at the start that ends up finishing with a nice flavor and then a ton of hops at the finish. Up third was the West Shore Stout which had the good flavor of a nice stout and then a good finish from the smokiness of the roasted malts. Last but not least was the Everlees Irish Red which started off smooth before some sweetness at the finish. To be honest, I would have preferred it without that sweetness. Out of the bunch I would have to pick the Stout as my favorite closely followed by the IPA. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I enjoyed all of the beers that I tried here and would be interested in trying their food as well!

LOVED this brewery. Great location. Its a fun spot, the table by the water is awesome, and shuffle board was fun. Most important- the beer was GREAT. IPAs were not bitter at all, stout was just like its supposed to be. Really good selection, we're really glad we stopped here.

Nice beer, space, and service by the owner. A solid brewery to drop by. Nothing standout, to be honest, but very decent.

This place is everything I love in a brewery. Private parking, graffiti, brewery sticker display,…read morecool merch, decent music, arcade games and food! Driving in I asked my husband I asked what Kettlehead is known for an he said: Beer. Yet somehow, I can't love Kettlehead. A few things occured that damaged the experience: 1. The waitress spilled a sampler all over my wristlet and cell phone. She was oblivious but she has been spilling it the whole walk to the table! She seamed put out i asked of they had bleach wipes as we were in from out of town and i didnt want mty cell phone smelling like beer all weekend. 2. The waitress stated the coin change machine is wonky and they don't own it. The coin machine worked fine but it was the first game we played, Tokyo Drift, that ate our money. I reported it and seamed like the guy didn't care. He didn't offer me a $1 to make up for it nor did he shut down the machine after my report. I feel like if you have it in your place, you should stand behind it. An issue, it should become yours. 3. The pretzels are terrible. They are like sliced and fried with no flavor. They looked like little hot dogs. We go to a ton of breweries and this is the worst pretzel experience we have ever had. Also, the waitress told us the mustard was the beer cheese and vice versa. My kid was not to happy when she ate mustard! But also, the worst beer cheese we have encountered as well. Her excuse, she has been up since 4am. Well, my husband wasn't wrong. He raved over their beer. Nobody was impressed with their food.

Steve and I had the Triple Agent which is a Triple New England IPA. This beer was enjoyable. Flavor highlights in this one are juicy, citrus and tropical. The beer has a creamy body and gives a soft feel upon your mouth when taking a sip. While this IPA was good it didn't necessarily a beer that got etched into my mind as time passed I still had no complaints with it.

The bad : Service is terrible and nonexistent, you have to order at the bar and pick up your own food. Of course, they ask for a 25% tip anyway. They upsold a beer right before closing, and then told us we have clear off. With the full beer they just happily to sold us. Also, food prices are absolutely disgusting. See the photo with the menu - $13 for a pretzel. Just absolute cash grabbing nonsense. The good: the outdoor space is quite nice. Large lawn, lots of options between picnic tables and Adirondack chairs. Some little trails in a wooded area (for disc golf, but still little paths to walk). The beer is good, at least the farmhouse and Scottish ales.

Love the place. Ample, huge barn style building with awesome beers, a huge Biergarten for summer…read moreevenings, and a truly welcoming vibe. And they also have live music every so often. We came here after attending the massive Gunstock Ski sale. We now have an après ski place coming back home from skiing at Gunstock. Really awesome ambiance and even better service. Just superb service with knowledgeable and friendly bar tenders who explained the brews and the intricate flavors. We tried both their IPAs, the Palmer's Towm IPA and their Lake Cruiser. Both superb. Then a Pumpkin ale that was awesome and a Sour that made us pucker (for the good). Then we thought about food.... Their flat bread pizza, pepperoni and hot honey, is the only thing that beats the Ragged Mountain flatbreads.... And then we had their Bavarian Pretzels which were a wonderful compliment... Overall a superb late afternoon.

Came here for the first time for a special event and we were impressed with the place, which…read morerecently underwent an extensive addition that increased the floor space, providing for a large tasting area and plenty of seating. River Roost is just a brewing facility with a tasting room, so there is no food provided or for sale. However, the place is across the parking lot from Big Fatty's Barbecue for some amazing, out of this world barbecue, Mac & Cheese, and the like. And you can bring it here to munch out while savoring the many beers on draft. And since it's not a restaurants, Fido is welcome. The owner was the attendant on that day and he was quite affable and also knew his beers like the back of his hand. I tried a "Mas Verde" IPA and it was absolutely delicious. Overall a superb time with wonderful people and great beer and superb food from across the street.... The only warning about the area is the parking situation. As the area (which used to be a blighted warehouse and industrial area) has become gentrified and dotted with apartments, the nearby Northern Stage Theatre, and numerous restaurants, parking has become an issue and customers should either arrive early or realize they may have to park several blocks away. But that only shows just how popular this area has become and part of it is River Roost's doing. Great place!!!!!
