This tasted like an American or Mexican made this food. (full disclosure: I'm an American and I am…read morenot Thai). I did not see a single Thai person on this staff when I visited. This seem like another "Penny's Noodles" deal. Totally fake Thai food. I don't want to say what I ordered, because I don't want them to come after me. It wouldn't be proper to recommend a better Thai restaurant, but I can HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you do some research before spending your hard earned money and wasting your time. Chicago has some amazing Thai restaurants. Please spend some time and find those hidden gems. You will be glad you did!

I'd describe this place as pretty hipster and cozy. As for the food, I think it's pretty standard Thai food for its price. To my surprise, the standout dish was the papaya salad. It was incredibly citrusy and juicy, each bite just bursting with flavor. I would come back just for this lol, it's seriously addicting.. I also realllly enjoyed pad Thai, probably my favorite Thai entrees. Definitely 10/10 too. I unfortunately do not recommend the fried chicken dish we recommended because it was dry, and sauce didn't help it. The phat kee mao was good but I do agree with some of my friends that there was a bit of a specific smell... could possibly be fish sauce? It wasn't bad. I was pleasantly surprised to find mango sticky rice on their seasonal menu. It wasn't listed on the main menu online, but appeared separately on a table menu. I was excited to give it a try! It wasn't bad but not the best I had (Considering it had fruity pebbles on it). Service was excellent. We had an incident that was addressed really quickly (our fault) and they were just super profesh!

I placed an order through ClassPass well in advance for four items (two bowls and two drinks). They canceled 3/4 items that were ordered after we arrived! The explanation given by the cashier was simply that she was busy, which was unhelpful. We could order the same items on site but they were not honoring ClassPass orders? This makes no sense. I just wish they would have canceled the entire thing so we could just walk out the door. The one bowl I did receive was poorly prepared, less than half full, and not at all representative of what was advertised. After pointing this out, I requested a refund, and while the cashier initially said "no problem," I later discovered that the refund had not been processed. I went back inside and was told it would take three days for that refund to go through, even though the other three items had been refunded immediately. The inconsistency made no sense, and I ultimately had to spend over an hour working with ClassPass support to resolve the issue. The main concerns from this experience are: Orders may not be fulfilled as placed, with no communication until after you arrive. Refunds are not handled consistently or promptly. Customer service was dismissive and unprofessional. The staff could greatly benefit from better training in both order management and customer service. I truly hope the owners take this feedback seriously. Also I'm including pictures of the food they provided versus how it is advertised on a website. If this is how the food is prepared definitely will not be going back.

Mediterranean Meze - very flavorful blend of 22 ingredients according to our waiter. This dish was truly unique. 5/5 Grilled Halloumi Meze - delicious cheese with olives and garlic bread. 4/5 Stuffed Eggplant - savory and creamy dish which actually might be even better served hot. 5/5 Calamari Meze - Excellent and tender. Not chewy at all which was nice. There were a ton of olives which I didn't think complimented the calamari. Overall, still 5/5. Mushroom Tava - mushrooms were cooked perfectly and were delicious. One of my favorite dishes of the night. 5/5 Stuffed Mushrooms - this dish fell flat on flavor and had more of the typical mushroom texture. 3/5 The Hunkar entrée initially was extremely salty. I mentioned this to the waiter and they remade it, which turned out great, so I'm hoping the salty dish was a one-off. 5/5 Our waiter was very friendly and attentive throughout. The restaurant itself is also casual upscale, so nice for most occasions. Avaspi exceeds expectations and I highly recommend this excellent Mediterranean restaurant.

After 20 mins and us asking food runners 3 times to get us a waiter we finally got assistance. We ordered the meze platter to start and very clearly stated, no nuts. The waiter said "we only use walnuts", we responded, no nuts. The food arrived and 2 of the 4 dishes had nuts on them, when I pointed it out to the waiter, he said "they're only on the top"! It was as if he was trying to be funny? Or sarcastic? Anyway, decent food, poor service.

I could taste that they were handmade and very flavorful. Second was the charcoal half chicken. The coconut rice was had a light coconut flavor which was good bc it didnt alter the taste of the chicken. I'd skip on the salad and minced beef noodles next time. The noodles were a lil too thick n chewy for me. Salad was nothings special, just eating large chunks of cabbage. The Sparrow Mallorc was also really good and refreshing, not overly sweet. The egg tarts had a creamy delicious custard and the dough was fluffy like a croissant, not crisp like pie. I prefer crisp but would still recommend. I also got the chai carrot cake which is really good. The chai spice compliments the sweetness well and walnut chunks add nice texture . I want to try all their desserts at Bird Bird Bakery bc the flavors are so unique and actually really good, unlike other bakeries that try to use interesting flavors but make it overly sweet. The staff were chill and kind. Pretty laid back, you have to get your own utensils and water. I do love that they have their own hot sauces. The brown one with tamarind was my favorite. Nice decos, not overly showy or fancy. Still family friendly n chill. The bench had nice comfy cushions.

Cheers for me, guys. And now that I've been, I just want to come back. That food is good. So, so very good.... Vegan options galore, and not just some bullshit afterthoughts. The sweet potato soup with garlic was a great starter, especially with that perfectly thick bread. The "Tineka," a spicy peanut butter sandwich with all kinds of fresh veg, was another hit. Fresh, salty, beautifully toasted. Even the side of slaw was elevated beyond the norm. But the one I'll be dreaming of is the Chickpea & Fennel Tagine. Green harissa, golden raisins, preserved lemon, arugula, and more of that amazing grilled bread. My god. Tagine is a slow-cooked African dish that jams pounds of flavor into each bite, and this bowl was through the roof. The apertif menu? Bonus points for that one. It's cute, it's trendy, the staff knows their menu inside and out, and they have been bringing the culinary heat for nearly three decades. Keep doing your thing, Lula.
