I really was intrigued by the history of Roeser's Bakery and how it was featured in the Bear as inspiration for pastries so I was excited to be here. The space is a traditional bakery serving only to go orders so we were prepared with a paper plate and napkin to try the treat of choice--a strawberry donut. I must admit, when I was told I was eating a strawberry donut, I pictured a neon pink donut reminiscent of one Homer Simpson drools over, but it was a fresh donut, fried to perfection, with large, fresh strawberries on top! Donuts are not my go to dessert, less on National Donut Day, so I was pleasantly surprised by how perfect it was. The donut was crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and the strawberry gel was a perfect accompaniment. I ate the actual berries off first so they did not fall off and roll around. The family owned bakery smelled better than I imagined it would and the staff was efficient and polite.

Wonderful Bakery and Pastries at this Chicago institution! All of the items I purchased exceeded expectations, hard to find spots like this in the city anymore! Service was fast and the staff was super friendly, give them a try if you haven't been there Pro Tip: there is parking on site & they have coffee as well which compliments the pastries

Roeser's is a cute lil old timey bakery with a variety of different sweet treats. Maybe I need to try more things to give a fairer review, however, I stopped in on Fat Tues for a paczki & was underwhelmed. The dough was not the rich, dense dough I expected - it was more just like a regular yeast donut. The CT bakery paczkis I got from the grocery store were better.

I have been coming here for decades! They never disappoint. I went a few days before my event to order cake. I always order custom decorated cakes. Service is always great. They are very helpful and I never feel rushed. They are so helpful and patient. All my questions were answered before placing the order and gave me a great price. Oh yes don't forget grab pastry as soon as you arrive. I made the mistake of waiting til after we were done ordering and didn't realize a customer had grabbed the last sugar donut, luckily they had other option of donuts and danishes still left. They sell coffee too so it's a nice treat as I drive to work Check out the pictures in the wall. Really cool nostalgic Bozo show pics. Day of pick, again great, friendly and fast service. I was so happy with the hand drawing of Garfield!

First time at Roeser's, came in on Fat Tuesday to try their paczki's. The place was packed with a line out the door, which I was expecting but surprisingly it moved pretty quickly. Once inside they had forms to fill out what type and count of each you wanted to make the process quicker. The selection was great, 24 different varieties some iced some powdered or sugared. We got 6: blueberry iced, chocolate custard chocolate icing, lemon iced, Nutella, raspberry sugared and strawberry powdered. The favorites were blueberry, chocolate and raspberry. Also grabbed a pistachio and lemon poppy seed donut. All in was ~$23. Staff and customers were friendly, love how long the business has been around it's clearly a neighborhood staple. Plan to return for future bakery needs!

    iconic sign outside the bakery!!

So iconic to visit the oldest family owned bakery in chicago!!!! i can imagine Roeser's had stayed in business for so long bc of its no-frills business model (small location, no indoor seating, quick service) combined with the incredible & undoubtable quality & variety of their products. they have everything you could imagine in terms of pastries, cookies, even ice cream! i wish i lived closer to Roeser's so i could come more often. i think this is a must try for anyone visiting or living in the city just because it's so iconic & a historic landmark in my mind, also the pastries are delicious! i got the small maryann because ive never had one before, but i love strawberry shortcake so i loved it!! if i came back i would honestly get a ton of different pastries to try just for fun because they're also very affordable.

A craving for donuts during my run on the 606 Bloomingdale Trail resulted in me searching for the nearest bakery post completion of it. Via yelp, there were four bakeries that came up during my search; and out of the four with Roeser's Bakery being one I felt that a visit to Roeser's was long overdue being that I have frequently driven by it with the interest in visiting at some point. So, it became my choice for donuts. A cool fact about Roeser's is that it has been around since 1911; and it is credited as being the oldest family-owned bakery in the city of Chicago. I took my chances visiting Roeser's, hoping that I would find a parking spot outside of the storefront and luckily, I did! Some advice! For any of you driving, always give yourself enough space in order to back out of these spots that consist of parallel parking because you just never know what some drivers will stoop to. Upon entering Roeser's, I took my time looking at the display of desserts, mostly the slices of cake and nearly ordered a New York cheesecake slice until I moved towards the register to look at the donuts. It was then I spotted the Turtle Bomb and instantly fell for it. At the time, I do not believe I even looked at any of the donuts or pastries because the Turtle Bomb had my full-on interest. And it ended up being what I chose inside the display rather than a donut or pastry which seems to be the story of my life. After exiting Roeser's, there was a vehicle parked close to my bumper, but luckily I had enough room to pull forward and back out. I did not lose my mind but best believe I referred to the driver as "%@$&*!" as I pulled up and put my vehicle in reverse. What also blew my mind is that the driver even parked in the tow zone, right directly where the bus stops to pick up its passengers at the signage. If I did not give myself enough space in front, I would have been unable to get out of the spot I parked in which is why I say give yourself enough space when it involves parallel parking. As for the Turtle Bomb, I pulled into Humboldt Park, the nearest park to enjoy it. Assuming that the texture of it was soft like a cake I attempted to stick my spoon inside of it only to find out that it was not, so I grabbed it out of the box and took a bite. Oh my was it so delicious! That first bite exposed the pecans and caramel buried underneath the top layer of the chocolate which made me think of the chocolate turtle candy. To give you an idea of the goodness I tasted, think of a chocolate cake consisting of caramel and pecans, yes! And to think! I nearly chose the New York Cheesecake Slice over this chocolate piece of heaven known as the Turtle Bomb. Needless to say that I had a great experience as I have clearly indicated in this review of Roeser's Bakery. I will have to re-visit and order the New York cheesecake slice when I am in the area whether it be after a run at Humboldt Park, or the 606 Bloomingdale Trail. And as yelp recommended this Roeser's to me, I share my endorsement of it as well with you all. ~Nourish your soul. ~ Thomas G

I've been purchasing my son cakes from Roesers since he's been born . last year for his 4th birthday was my favorite ! i highly recommend getting your cakes from this bakery ! thank you so much !!

This is what they gave me

Absolutely unacceptable experience at Roeser's Bakery (3216 W North Ave) on Sunday, January 4th, 2026. I ordered a custom cake for my daughter's birthday and provided a clear reference image. What I received looked nothing like what I asked for. It was sloppy, poorly executed, and honestly embarrassing to put out for a child's birthday. When I complained, they tried to "fix" it, but the so-called fix didn't fix anything. The cake was still wrong. At that point, it was obvious they either didn't care or didn't know how to do the design in the first place. What really pushed this over the edge was the complete lack of customer service. No real apology, no accommodation, and not even a partial discount for THEIR mistake. For a business that claims to specialize in cakes, this level of quality and attitude is ridiculous. Ruined what was supposed to be a special day and showed zero accountability. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else if you need a custom cake -- especially for an important event. The photo on the right is what I gave them to copy and they gave me the cake like the photo on the left. I believe they are racist towards Blacks and it's starting to show. Update: The lady who took my order stated that it will have the gold on the cake and stated that the letters will be written in Bold and Cap letters so talk to your associate who took my order and lied to me and said it will be added at no charge. She never stated a charge on these items. So don't run that line about what I didn't pay for.

OK so I will say that I've never heard of Roeser's before I looked them up online when I searched "Best ice cream cakes in Chicago." Not only did they pop up under that search, but under " Best cakes in Chicago" period! You know what.... They didn't disappoint!! Of course it makes sense when you understand the history! Let's break it down.... Turns out this place has been around since 1911!! that's right, this place is well over 100 years old! It was founded by the late John Roeser Sr and his wife, Hattie. They both ran the shop for over 60 years. That's insane! As of today, I believe they are the oldest family bakery in the city! Of course you can see why when you walk in. Upon arrival, it immediately harken me back to my days when I lived in NYC. When there were no big box corporate chains like Jewel Osco or Marianos who had their own multibillion dollar bakeries. This is just a good ole Mom and Pop bakery that is still alive and kicking! Regarding the my cake, I ordered the Cookies and Cream Oreo ice cream and it was to die for! It was for a special occasion and the bakery, get a very good job of getting the lettering right! My only critique is I have to give them a knock on the customer service side for one reason: the wait time was pretty ridiculous considering how small the crowd was. Especially considering I had already paid for the cake in advance. A solution to the problem would be for the bakery to set up a "Prepaid Pickup" area. I think this will be worthwhile not only for folks like myself, but also for delivery drivers like DoorDash, GrubHub and Ubereats. The fact that it took me 20-30 minutes to get my prepaid cake when only four people were in front of me I found a bit preposterous. If it wasn't for this, they would get a five out of five. Overall, I would highly recommend Roeser's Bakery. When they say is the best in Chicago, they aren't kidding. Don't believe me? Go give them a shot! Just make sure you have plenty of wait time. LOL! Other than that, Roeser's Bakery is where it's at!!! :-)

Okay so I got donuts from Roeser's Bakery today and I'm honestly just mindblown by how absolutely delicious they are. I got 6 chocolate glazed cake donuts and 6 glazed long johns and WOW is all I have to say. The glazed long johns are better than Krispy Kreme's and the cake donuts are so tasty as well. I cannot wait to try more treats from Roeser's soon because I had 12 donuts at 11am this morning and 12 hours later, only have 4 left because they were so stinkin' good. Do not pass up on Roeser's because you'll regret it if you do!

I was recommended this bakery and I have to say that the chocolate donuts were good! Had some coffee too, I recommend choosing the box to go but overall it was a good experience.

I hadn't been here in a while and decided to introduce a friend who is also a foodie and a server at the very top shelf fine dining restaurant in town. Point being, is he knows good food and legit offerings when he sees and tastes them. It's been there over a 100 years located in our old neighborhood of Humboldt Park. I remember going to Roser's as a kid with my grandmother and family. We got a lot of birthday and holiday sweets here and many times just popped in for a treat. They are another place that offers off street parking on the side of the building. Something becoming nearly impossible to find. It's decor is old school the way it should be as is the staff made of of mostly neighborhood folks. Everyone is very friendly and willing to answer any questions. Now their pastries and sweets are top shelf and hard to beat anywhere in the city. Hence, the reason they have been around over 100 years. Just eyeballing their sweets is enough to give you a cavity in the best kind of way. My buddy went crazy! As he could not make up his mind on what he wanted he went for the brass ring and took two boxes of mixed donuts, pastries and cookies. He also commented on the super reasonable prices for what would cost an arm and a leg anywhere else. Part of it is the working class neighborhood around them and a large part if Roser's just isn't interested in sticking you up. Because of that they have an extremely loyal following with generations of families walking through their doors. One suggestion is get there early. We went about an hour before closing and the selection was good though a bit limited as they make only enough to sell and keep fresh. Stop in for a real old school neighborhood bakery and prices you won't find elsewhere for offerings that are hard to beat.

I've been a customer of almost 10 years and have been obsessed since they first opened their doors at a different location. I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place.

For my graduation cake, I chose the tres leches and it was so creamy, moist, and delicious. I basically ate half of the cake by myself lol. I chose to get the berry chantilly cake slice since it was a hot day, and it was the perfect refreshing treat! It was soooo good.

When we got there the line outside was about two blocks and people stated moving slowly. One in line even said she looked to place online ordering but it was showing ready at 1:30pm. So plan ahead! The guava and cheese ensaymada was a favorite! The staff for picking up online orders were very nice! The team was very organized and efficient with pick up orders. I was lucky enough to snag a parking spot from someone pulling out right in front, and I was even happier to skip the line and walk straight in to pick up my order. Order ahead--it is absolutely the move. The drinks aren't sitting around waiting for pickup either. It seemed like they were making my matcha latte right as I arrived, which I appreciated. The star of the show was the huckleberry pastry--absolutely worth the hype. The longanisa breakfast sandwich was delicious but very substantial. For us, one sandwich was the perfect amount to share among three people; I think it would feel pretty heavy as a solo breakfast. The apple hand pie was one of the best I've had, and even the simple cookie was surprisingly delicious. We also tried a blueberry muffin, which was solid as well. The restaurant itself is cute, the space is clean, and the restrooms were spotless. Would I go back? Absolutely. But next time I'll definitely follow the pro tip and order ahead.

I was skeptical at first because it is a local chain, rather than a singular location. However, it lived up to the hype. Service: it was extremely busy when we came in. The line was almost out the door. They have a system in place for ordering and seating so it worked well and fast given how busy they were. We didn't have any questions on where to order or where to stand when waiting for a seat. The staff were friendly and helped us find a spot to sit at. Ambiance: classic cafe in a city. Loud chatter, but it's a vibe. Very colorful and fun interior with cool textural elements. We had a seat that was facing the street so it was fun to people watch as we sipped and ate. Food: amazing breakfast selection! We ordered the morning sandwich and barbacoa bowl. The morning sandwich had THICK scrambled eggs which were super soft and tasty. I could've used more salsa verde on it. The bread was barely toasted. I'd rate the sandwich a 3.8/5. It got the job done. The barbacoa bowl was "really good" according to my fiancé. A great source of protein, fresh ingredients, nice flavor, and great portions. He would rate it a 5/5. Coffee: I am a coffee snob so I am quite harsh when it comes to reviewing it. Their machine is a cute La Marzocco. Appropriate sized "for-here" glasses according to the drinks. Plus, they were really cute. Wide variety of drink selection from your standards to the more girly-drinks (if there is such a thing). We ordered a cappuccino and small hot mocha. Latte art 4.5/5, temperature 5/5, flavor 4/5. The espresso didn't stand out to me, very standard flavor profile. However, the chocolate in the mocha was delicious. It's more of a rich, dark chocolate. Nice thin layer of foam. Would recommend to try at least once when you're in Chicago! Glad to have stopped in.

I got the pistachio croissant, shakshouka pastry, and berry crunch oatmeal. It took about 20-25 minutes, which made no sense because the pastries are in the case and the oatmeal......is oatmeal. I suspect they opened without having all of their prep done because the delay made no sense. Their staff looked frantic. The croissant wasn't filled, it just had pistachio cream on the top with a couple of nuts. I would order the shaksouka pastry again. The egg was cooked well, and the tomato was very good. They were supposed to heat it up, but it wasn't warm.

Let me tell you, it was all I hoped it could be and more. The storefront was pretty small with a few tables- between the size, hours, and popularity (they were only open a few days a week and closed at 2pm), I suspected that the shop sold out often. I went on a weekday and there was still a good selection of pastries left around 11am. The staff was super nice and helpful as I struggled to make a decision. They shared that the strawberry milk croissant was their bestseller, so I opted for that. It was filled with fresh strawberry mascarpone and fresh strawberry puree. Despite the croissant's decadent appearance, it was not at all too sweet. I'm not typically the biggest croissant fan (I know, I know, no one is perfect) but this pastry blew me away. The filling was super generous without overpowering the delicate dough, which was baked to crispy perfection. Sadly, I don't get to the area often, but I will 100% be back asap to try more of the menu. Run- don't walk to pay a visit!

They make scrumptious cookies, pastries, danishes, chai cinnamon rolls, the whole shebang. Our eyes were nonstop drooling over all of the fresh goodies. I had such a hard time choosing, but knew I had to get the corn flake espresso cookie (SO FRICKIN AMAZING) the textures were elite, and the potato focaccia. The southwest hash brioche was friggin incredible. They were very generous with the sweet potato, WHOLE EGG, and veg. Like seriously, with the cost of groceries skyrocketing, I can't believe I got a whole bit of egg white and yolk. You must eat your goodies warm, the initial crunch had me in a chokehold. They also had a vegan focaccia which my friends appreciated. There's street parking and expect lines. Inside isn't super spacious, but the line does move. Bring sunnies and a book if you don't like to stand around. We got here before they opened on a Saturday morning and only had to wait like 15mins. They also sell cute lil Sugar Moon merch like fun tshirts and cards. Would 100% come back to get morning pastries from them. Super queer friendly as well. MUST visit.

More of a mousse than a cake but it was rich and utterly divine. I also tried their spinach feta croissant, which was ok but I'm not convinced the right vessel for that filling. I also appreciated some of their baked goods were reasonable prices so you could easily try something for under $5 or alternatively splurge for the finer pastries.

So overall probably a 4 stars but knocking a star for not advertising the correct hours. Luckily we were already in the area but I would have been mad if made a venture up here and it was closed. I wouldn't bank on this for an after dinner treat. Get your stuff during the day as the hours are not dependable.
