Oh, what a treat! I noticed this place whilst shopping in the store next door and had to take a look. Brou'ne focuses on brownies as their specialty. First there was the cupcake trend, then the cookie shops... are brownies about to have their day in the sun? The woman working (owner?) was really nice and gave me the lay of the land. They sell over a dozen kinds of brownies and blondies here. They had some special flavors (not on their posted menu) that seemed kind of fall-inspired, in addition to their standard fare. I'm not a brownie person but recently learned blondies are really good, so I got a Bee Bee blondie and a Carrie blondie. The Carrie is a carrot-cake like dessert, with caramel and cream cheese frosting. It was really good, and as a note it is a little "wetter" of a brownie due to the ingredients and thus a bit stickier. The Bee Bee features a biscoff cookie and white chocolate, and was really good. Both were rich and so good, and though they are a little expensive they're definitely worth the occasional splurge! I can honestly say I've never seen this variety of brownies, and Brou'ne had definitely elevated this humble treat to something with much more complex flavors and textures than I'd ever expect out of this staple item from the baked goods category. They have a Thanksgiving menu that I'm going to take a look at, but what I'm really interested in is that they ship nationwide. I'm looking forward to taking a look at that menu to see what items I might be able to send to my mom for Christmas and/or her December birthday. In addition to their signature sweet, they have cookies and cake slices in the cooler. They also have coffee and tea on the menu, and I also picked up a bag of sea salt caramels that were to die for. I've already told others about the place even though it was just last night that I stopped in; I'll be back again, 100%. And maybe I'll bring a friend.

Great coffee. Amazing sweets!! Ordered a butterscotch + chocolate desert and chocolate + pistachio filled. Hidden gem and a great spot to visit before catching a movie at Music Box. The owner/baker is super nice too.

I hate leaving negative reviews, especially when the folks running the establishment seem to be such kind people. Unfortunately, the sweet treats at Brou'ne don't really stack up in a city filled with really great options. My wife and I tried two different brownies, and while the concepts were unique and interesting, the execution left little to be desired. The texture of the brownies was all wrong, despite some fairly good flavor. Gummy would be the only way to describe them. The Merry cookie, pictured below, looked like the right choice. But, when I tried it later that evening, the cookie itself had almost no flavor, just a pasty mound of unseasoned cookie dough. The pretzels were stale, leading me to believe this may have been sitting in that window for several days. I actually went in looking to try their heralded ube cheesecake, one of my favorite flavors. But there were only two sad looking slices in the refrigerator, and for nearly $10 a pop I passed. A surprise was that they had a few pints left in the freezer from Sundae Stop, which closed nearly 2.5 months ago. Ice cream keeps, but $12 for pints that old is pretty steep. A lot of promise, but sadly a place that is far past its prime (the storefront opened recently, but they've been in operate more than a decade).

Brownie lovers, this is the spot for you. Brou'ne Desserts recently opened in the Southport Corridor neighborhood and has made a name for themselves with their expansive selections of brownie, blondie, and cookie flavors. These are brownies unlike anything I've seen (or tasted!) before. Every single flavor was great, but my favorites was the gourmet cosmic brownie (warning, won't be able to enjoy a cosmic brownie after trying this masterpiece) and the biscoff cookie brownie, which is a brownie with cookie butter and marshmallow topped with a biscoff cookie. I know it sounds extra, but that's because it is. Brownie, cookie butter, and marshmallow = perfection. It's simple math. Brou'ne Desserts also offers ice cream sandwich cookies and Brou'ne Freezes which look to be their take on a gourmet shake. They open around 10am and serve coffee and lattes in the morning too. There is also a small patio right out on Southport to enjoy your sweet treats. It appears to be a family owned and run business, so supporting them is an easy choice. I cannot emphasize enough how unique and creative the brownie flavors are. There is sure to be something for everyone!

Unreal! I was SO excited when this shop came in below my previous apartment. I stopped in a couple of times to grab a fun dessert - they are never short in supply of those! I really have loved everything I've tried. The owners are so friendly and welcoming and they love talking through the variety of desserts they have. Can't wait to go back!

Lion King themed 4 layer cake! Flavor was snickers chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting!

Brou'ne is awesome! They have been making customized desserts for our family for over a year! I needed vegan and nut free cupcakes made for my son's birthday celebration at his daycare. They turned out so cute, and the best part was the taste. The toddlers of course loved them, but the teachers raved how amazing they were and that you couldn't even tell they were vegan. I also had Brou'ne make my son's family birthday cake and OMG! It was a snickers chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting! Everyone loved it!!! The cake was also customized to match our Lion King themed party!

We went here on a Thursday at ~11am and waited about 20 minutes to get dine-in seating. The staff members were all very welcoming, despite the amount of people they had to serve. If you are dining in, you must order all of your items in the front before being seated. Be sure to order everything you want, because the pastries might be gone by the time you want to take any to-go! The food was immaculate. The breakfast sandwich tasted like home, and the egg just melted right inside our mouths. The Ube and Coconut "Ensaymada" was another favorite. My partner and I enjoyed every single bite of it, and regretted that we did not get a second one! We weren't too much of a fan for the Black Truffle Croissant, but maybe because we aren't totally into the cheese-inside-croissant type of food. Though, it is a popular pastry, so definitely worth the try! Oh, Hot Yam! was another fan favorite (and honestly ours too) for drinks. The latte was not too sweet, and you could still taste the ube essence with hints of espresso Seating wise, there were limited booth-type of seats. We sat at the bar, but the limited seating explains why there is always a line. Very cute restaurant, and def aesthetically pleasing. We will definitely visit again, and maybe even try the tasting menu for dinner!

This is a fast casual spot so service was pretty fast. There is a decent amount of seating, most of which was surprisingly taken around 11am on a Thursday. For starters, they no longer have their rainbow cake! I was surprised to hear that considering how popular it's supposed to be. We got both banana lattes which were extremely sweet. It's basically dessert with a hint or caffeine. I'm a big fan of banana, so I actually liked this but I would've preferred half the sweetness. The Turkey Bacon & Egg Croissant was so good! A solid breakfast sandwich - the eggs were cooked perfectly, the turkey bacon was insanely crispy, and that sambal aioli was just what this needed. I highly recommend adding Avocado like I did for some freshness & creaminess since it's a heavy sandwich as is. The Cinnamon Roll was soft, moist, and not overly sweet. Overall, I really enjoyed this breakfast!

I finally had the time to sit down and share my full review, and I'm genuinely excited to talk…read moreabout our ongoing experience with Magnolia Bakery in Chicago. Our relationship with this place goes back several years, and at this point, visiting it has practically become a tradition for us, one that we look forward to every time we find ourselves in the city. Our love affair with Magnolia Bakery began the moment we tasted their famous banana pudding for the very first time. It's difficult to put into words just how unexpectedly delightful that first experience was. We'd heard great things about the bakery, of course, but nothing prepared us for how rich, comforting, and beautifully layered that pudding would be. It's the kind of dessert that immediately pulls you in, creamy, flavorful, nostalgic, and yet elevated in a way that keeps you thinking about it long after the last spoonful. From that point forward, Magnolia Bakery became an essential destination on every Chicago trip, almost like a ritual that we simply cannot skip. Our fondness for this place has grown so much that it has actually begun influencing our hotel choices. Whenever we plan a stay in Chicago, we deliberately look for accommodations that place us within convenient walking distance of the bakery. The surrounding area offers plenty of shopping and sightseeing opportunities, which makes staying nearby even more appealing. It's incredibly convenient to spend a morning or afternoon wandering around the neighborhood and then find ourselves naturally gravitating toward Magnolia Bakery for a delicious break. One of the things I appreciate most about this location is what you see the moment you step inside. The bakery has an open, inviting setup that allows customers to look directly into the baking area. For me, this is such a meaningful detail. Seeing the bakers at work, mixing, assembling, crafting everything by hand, reinforces the authenticity of the entire experience. It gives me confidence in the quality and freshness of what we're eating, and it creates a sense of connection to the craftsmanship behind every cake, pudding, and pastry. You can tell that things here are genuinely made from scratch, and that alone sets the tone for how special this place feels. The ambiance of the bakery is another reason we keep coming back. As a family, we love spaces that feel warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully designed, and Magnolia Bakery hits all of those marks. The interior décor has a charming, almost nostalgic aesthetic that creates a comforting mood the moment you walk in. Beyond that, there are several seating options available inside, which is perfect for us. After spending hours walking around the city, shopping, or sightseeing, being able to sit down, relax, and enjoy our treats becomes a much‑needed part of the day. Whether we're sharing different desserts, reviewing our shopping finds, or simply resting our feet, the space adds to the joy of the visit. The service style here is pretty straightforward, and honestly, that's something I genuinely appreciate. It's a typical bakery setup: you line up, scan through the display case filled with cakes, pastries, puddings, and seasonal items, make your selections, and pay right away. The simplicity of the process makes everything move smoothly. There's no rush, but there's also no confusion, just an easy, clean system that gets you from craving to enjoying your dessert in a matter of minutes. Although the line can sometimes get long, especially during peak hours or weekends, we have been lucky in that our visits almost always fall on weekdays. Because of that timing, we rarely encounter significant wait times. Even when the line does look a little long, it tends to move at a reasonable pace because of how efficiently the staff works. And honestly, even if we did have to wait, the smell of freshly baked goods and the anticipation of that first bite make the wait feel more than worth it. Overall, Magnolia Bakery has become one of those places that holds a special place in our hearts. It's not just about the banana pudding, though that will always be the star, it's about the atmosphere, the quality, the consistency, and the memories we associate with every visit. Each experience there adds something new to our affection for the place, which is why we continue returning again and again. We absolutely love this bakery, and we recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone visiting Chicago. Whether you're a dessert enthusiast, a banana pudding lover, or simply someone looking for a delightful spot to relax and treat yourself, Magnolia Bakery is an experience you shouldn't miss.
