Every time I've passed by, it's usually got a line going out the door so I wouldn't count on a visit being quick. That said, the staff worked fast and were super nice. The interior had a major nostalgia factor, with every kind of retro, old-fashioned candy you could think of filling the space! I saw treats that I haven't seen in decades. As for the frozen treats, they're beautiful in their simplicity. This place is not Jeni's, and they're not trying to be. There were only three custard flavors with seemingly every kind of traditional candy, sundae, and fruit topping available. I heard great things about the concretes in particular and opted for the OMG, which was a peanut butter lover's dream! I ordered it with a swirled vanilla and chocolate custard base, and every bite had chunks of brownie bites and butterfinger pieces. The junior was plenty big and I felt like a pretty good value. Took me awhile to process the menu but it was pretty simple as there are only three steps but plenty of add-ons. Pick your custard base, pick your add-ons and size. I choose the store favorite "Mocha-madness" which is vanilla base custard and they add brew coffee and chocolate chip and blend. I like it as this was not too sweet and rich coffee flavors. $9 (medium). There are other favorites listed but I was not looking for anything crazy. The store has many candy items that you can buy which does not have to ice cream. There is a long bench in the back of the store where you can sit and enjoy the dessert. Walking through the door of Lickity Split is like walking into the past (one that I was, unfortunately, not alive for). It has a feeling of an old school soda, ice cream, and candy shop. They don't have fountain sodas as far as I know, but they do have bottles galore of smaller batch indie brands. Candy wise, they have a wide variety of different candies and novelties for sale. Some things that are just fun, like gummy baloney! However, neither the candy nor the soda is what made me a frequent flyer in this shop. In terms of the base, there are three options: vanilla, chocolate, and a rotating seasonal variety. And from these bases you have options galore, not only do they have a wide variety of toppings, they also have concretes. Recently, I had a pumpkin pie concrete, which is a slice of pumpkin pie blended with pumpkin custard. It's bad for me, I know, but it was oh so delicious! The custard itself is very creamy and savory, and the pumpkin pie blended within added even more pumpkin flavor, as well as little bits and pieces of pie crust! This is just one example of the numerous fun and exciting options lickety split offers. Only now am I starting to become a little more adventurous and go beyond the simple Sunday with a scoop, sprinkles, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. Finally, the prices are more or less reasonable for Chicagoland, and the ambiance aside is nice, though it would be nice if they had a little bit more seating period. The Chicago winter is fast approaching, and while it is not outside the norm for me to have ice cream in the middle of a Blizzard, it's definitely something I enjoy more rarely. Still I look forward to returning once or twice before everything is covered in snow. And once the temperatures go back up to the 80s and beyond, I will once again be here at least once a week! read more

Amazing frozen custard spot. The way Lucy described it is like having a customizable McFlurry. The way to order is you can pick a custard base and either pick a preset "concrete" which come with various toppings already mixed in, or you can customize your own. They also have a monthly rotating custard flavour (it was Mango when I went). They have a whole bunch of different candies and chocolates they sell in store as well. (I bought a few peanuts character themed choco bars too). Ok so to all the 90s kids who's ever lived in Korea, the vanilla custard tastes super nostalgic. It tastes very similar to this vanilla ice cream that's in the shape of a rectangular prism called Excellent (like the literal English word). I was shocked at how much it reminded me of it. I think the texture isn't as similar since this is a custard base but still!! I was super excited lmao I opted for the pineapple topping and they blended the custard and pineapples, so in the end the consistency was actually more like a super thick milkshake than ice cream. I love pineapple flavoured desserts and this hit the spot. I also got to try a bite of Lucy's banana + vanilla custard mix and that was also super yummy. It tasted like real bananas (as opposed to artificial flavouring) and it was an amazing combo as well. read more

Okay, who doesn't love ice cream. This place is SO CUTE. You walk in and have to look at everything, they have such cool candy options from all generations and some really unique options. If we had my nephews with us, we would have spent SO MUCH MONEY. It's so awesome. I came with my parents and they definitely felt the nostalgia. The custard is delicious and the amount of toppings to choose from is overwhelming, but wonderful. The girl taking the orders was very friendly as were the people who delivered it. After looking around a bit, I would have liked to purchase some of the candy/cakes upfront. However, the line had grown much longer, and I was not about to wait 15 minutes to make a second purchase. I've been walking by Lickity Split for a while now and finally decided to stop in when I had a craving for something sweet. When you walk in, you're greeted with so many bright colors and so much candy from your childhood that you'll be feeling delighted and nostalgic. They also have baked goods, jars of gummies, and a good range of fudge and other chocolatey creations. Most notably, they have frozen custard, shakes, and concretes. I had wanted to get some custard because c'mon it's custard but as I was walking and holding bags it would be too cumbersome to have a cone. Next time, Lickity Split... They have a ton of options for mixins and creations that I will gladly come here in the dead of winter (and I'm so glad they're open when it's cold!). Instead I opted for two milk chocolate haystacks (which are huge!) and my partner got a type of gummy we'd never seen before and a toffee. The service was super friendly and although the young guy at the counter was clearly new, he still was able to answer questions and knew the checkout procedure well (and also knew when to ask for help from who I think is the owner). If you want something that isn't sugar, you're out of luck. My grasshopper, with mint cream and mint oreos mixed into the custard, was thick and I got a generously filled cup. The flavor was not 100% minty, some bites were stronger than others, but the vanilla custard I got shone through as well. The custard was a thick, smooth, and slick, a distinctive texture that sets it apart from regular ice cream. OMG! That's my reaction after eating this and also what I got. This concrete was a mix of chocolate custard, peanut butter, fudge brownies, and hot fudge. The concrete was a little thicker than I expected first, but quickly softened up. The chocolate custard was very good and wasn't overly sweet. The peanut butter was noticeable throughout with some spots having even more. A lot of fudge brownies that were soft and as expected very fudgy. Only thing I wish I could change would be having the hot fudge on top so I could taste it.
