Very nice! A friend and I have now eaten dinner here twice. Excellent salmon teriyaki with generous portions of steamed veggies and salad. Yumm. Soggy, bland Katsu Donburi didn't resemble the dish served in other places. Couldn't tell the white meat inside from chicken or the pork it was supposed to be. No way there was a deep fried cutlet in this dish as there is supposed to be. Kept having to add hot and soy sauces to get the thing to taste like something. Got to say, the sushi did look good, but skip the other dishes IMHO. Certainly overpriced for what we got. read more

Just visiting Tucson and I had the appetite for sushi. I saw this restaurant was very well rated on yelp and I can see why. I ordered two sushi rolls and they were very good and served up quickly. Miso soup and edamame and even a scoop of strawberry ice cream was complimentary. I can't go more than two weeks without coming here for sushi. By day twelve, I am a little twitchy and nervous- jonesing for some Kazoku. I love that they still give you edamame and miso when you sit down (the way a sushi joint should). The sushi has always been reasonably priced, good, and fresh. The service is always friendly and relaxed. And the ice cream finish is an over the top nice touch. I would give this place five stars but the bathrooms need a serious re-fresh. They are clean but they are poorly lit and just look tired. At least judging by the men's room. But I go there for the excellent food and service, not the restroom. read more

I always get udon here and I love it! My boyfriend takes me here as a treat and the sushi is always fresh. On top of that, there is a free scoop of ice cream at the end and free miso soup in the beginning, woohoo! :-) The udon is always warm and tasty, my favorite place in Tucson! read more

This is my new favorite sushi spot. Most places don't give you free miso or edamame these day, but Kazoku does! The miso is super yummy, too. Some of the freshest sashimi I've had in Tucson. I also enjoy the squid salad here. The sushi rolls are not ridiculously expensive and they offer some creative combinations. The vibe in here is very friendly and comfortable. I've been wanting to try Kazoku for a while now and I just recently had to opportunity of come here for dinner. I absolutely loved it! The meal started off beautifully with complimentary edamame and miso soup along side a California and a veggie roll. The rolls were good--not the best I've ever had, but certainly tasty. My boyfriend also ordered a couple pieces of nigiri, but as I don't like raw fish, I didn't eat any. For the main course, I ordered the tempura udon and my boyfriend ordered the spicy ramen. The tempura udon was everything I wanted and it came out boiling hot (a huge plus). Have I mentioned that lukewarm soup is a huge pet-peeve of mine? The spicy ramen was just that, spicy. I can't really handle spicy, so I only took a couple bites, but that was enough to set my mouth on fire. We both agreed that my dish was the clear winner of the evening. The meal ended with a complimentary serving of plum ice cream. Kazoku really knows how to treat their customers. I look forward to coming back and taking advantage of their lunch specials. My only complaint is that from the outside, this restaurant is very nondescript. Even though I knew the address, I still ended up passing by it twice before finally pulling into the right parking lot. But don't let this minor detail prevent you from having a wonderful culinary experience. read more

Kazoku is slightly different! It's not "the best" anymore! It's still great, don't get me wrong. But I can't fairly say it's the best. The edamame tasted kinda grassy today; a lot of their warm foods tasted like a generic teriyaki sauce. It's still extremely generous with all the side items and dessert though! read more

I absolutely love this place. Their salmon nigiri melts in your mouth and it has that sweet salmon taste. Salmon is my favorite fish so this place satisfies my salmon desires! I usually get their udon here because I love how sweet their soup tastes. In addition, you get free miso and free edamame and a free scoop of ice cream in the end! My sister got their spicy Korean ramen and it actually just reminded us of instant shinbowl ramen, and it tasted like it too. That, I don't recommend getting since why would you pay $6ish dollars for something that tasted like instant ramen... But come here for the fish! Their quality is top notch. Their parking is tiny though and we always miss it for some reason. Service is good as long as it's not busy because it seems like they are short staffed usually. This place is always a constant go-to for my boyfriend and my family. read more

ok, i am SOOO sorry to do this but it just has to be done. I ventured to kazoku after searching for a sushi spot that could hold up to my high standards. Im a bit of a foodie, and im from nyc, so ive had a hard time finding any places that i really love here in tucson. I thought i could trust yelp, but i think everyone is just crazy, or their tastebuds have been permanentley altered by the overly sweet and severely processed foods america has dubbed as the norm. THIS SUSHI WAS AWFUL. it was so bad i couldnt even eat it. i ordered a scallop dynamite that was reminiscent of mayonaise and melted ice cream baked on top of a VERY mediocre, california type roll that had imitation crab and was completely falling apart. not to mention it also had an inordinate amount of very cheap cream cheese in both rolls, so that when i took a bite, i couldnt even taste anything but the cheese. it was like a was eating cream cheese out of the container, with rotten baked melted ice cream on top. i COULDT BELIEVE all of the positive reviews. i thought maybe it was just that roll so i ordered another, and they had DRENCHED the also medicore roll in an overly sweet eel (if you could call it that) sauce that tasted like pure sugar. not a great sign folks. I dont know about anyone else, but i like to taste the fish when i eat sushi, hence me eating sushi and not slices of cream cheese. im sad to say, this place was the WORST sushi ive had in tucson, and i think that most of these places have given up on great fresh fish in true japanese style, and traded it in for deep fried mayonaisse and cream cheese filled sugar coated americanized crap. i guess these people like their sushi just like their free ice cream, overly sweet and creamy=(( read more

In town on business and tried Kazoku out based on the Yelp reviews. I won't be back here again, that's for sure. Arrived around 8:15p, still plenty of time before they close. Service was poor at best. We had to ask about the complimentary edamame and miso soup. Edamame was cold - like right out of the fridge cold. Miso soup was clearly not homemade - not horrible though. We ordered 4 rolls and the sashimi sampler - 12 pieces. The yellowtail was awfully tan/brown for my taste. The tuna and salmon was decent. The 4 colors were ok, but seemed cheaply made. Very similar to what you would find at an Asian buffet. Best of luck if you try them out. Those of you that love this place should really branch out. There are definitely better places. read more

My only complaint is that they "usually" give you complimentary miso, edamame and plum ice cream which makes the meal A++++ however sometimes they don't bring out edamame and other times they bring out nothing :/ it's just a bummer when you're expecting it (because it's really freaking good) and then they seem to forget or don't offer it on occasion? EXCELLENT sushi and Japanese restaurant! This place boasts a large selection of authentic dishes using very high quality fish. The freshness of the fish is a nice surprise to find in Tucson. The White Tuna Tataki and Salmon Tataki appetizers were amazing and a good value. The rolls and hand rolls were also delish. The only complaint I had was that the edamame is served cold. Will definitely be back whenever I'm in the area and highly recommend it. read more

Kazoku was yummmmo! I went alone while traveling for work, I got there early and sat at the bar. The sushi master told me that it was good I got there early as it was about to get crazy busy. The service was incredibly attentive. The fish was fresh. I had the special Yellowtail Belly, it was like butter it melted in my mouth! I also had the Kazoku roll. The cuts of salmon and ahi on top of the roll were HUGE! It was so good I am thinking of going back to tonight! read more

Not sure why this place has good reviews but coming from a sushi fanatic- it was awful. There are places down the street from this place that were AMAZING! The sushi was gross and didn't even seem to be edible- my husband and I took a bite and we didn't finish it. The fish was not fresh and didn't taste right, as well as the dishes were not cleaned. The service was so awful too! The waitress was not nice and wouldn't help us at all, and would go to someone else. Never going back- not worth the sickness we had the next day from eating at this place. read more

this is probably the best place for sushi on the east side of tucson. sushi freshness is very good, and prices are reasonable. the owner is also the sushi chef, and in addition to being very friendly, will also give you some complimentary delicacies if you are a regular. the sushi and sashimi samplers are good, and the sweet shrimp and sea urchin are usually very fresh. i recommend eating at the bar and asking the chef which fish are fresh and what he would recommend. read more

Good sushi and a full menu for non sushi lovers. My husband especially like the Korean style spicy chicken which he said really reminded him of Korea. Along with dinner we were served edamame, soup, salad and delicious plum ice cream all included. Ultimately, we ended up with a ton of tasty food for a very reasonable price. read more
