This place is the dive bar of hibachi grills. Nearly everything about this place is mediocre and even sloppy and it's really hard to see any owner or even a manager running the place. I had read the Yelp reviews and had pretty low expectations going in, but was in a pinch and wanted a bowl of udon on my way home which was nearby. I ate on a Wednesday night and sat at the bar. I was welcomed to a very smoky environment (hibachi grill smoke). The dishwasher machine is visible when sitting at the bar and they had loose dishwashing trays and a bag of baking soda out underneath the glasses also visible. What!? I've never seen that at a restaurant. Many of the hibachi tables were full and there were maybe three non-hibachi tables seated. There was one other solo diner at the bar and was no one at the sushi bar. I ordered a bowl of shrimp udon and some edamame. The edamame came out within a few minutes, and the udon came out not long after the bar waitress was friendly. That was a plus. The udon was pretty bland and the edamame were quite salty (saltiest I've ever had). My bill was $24 ($15 for udon; $5 for edamame), pretty pricy given the quality of food and experience. I also had an automatic 15% gratuity added (1-2 people; 18% for 3+ people) for my sitting at the bar. What on earth. I would've probably tipped that or more but I'm not sure what kind of place it is that charges an automatic gratuity for non-hibachi customers. Overall, I have no plans to return. This is the most despicable excuse of a restaurant I've ever had the displeasure of dining at. My life is worse for having spent hours here. To start, our reservation for a large party (around ~12 people) was at 7:00pm. We all sat there in the back, waiting and waiting and waiting, until the hibachi experience started over an hour and a half later. If they are understaffed, they should not be accepting this many reservations. We initially all ordered waters, which took over an hour to come out. Every time we would go to the bar to order a cocktail (since our server was MIA for most of the night), they would refuse to give us water because "it was coming". Our server had no issue pressuring our table to order sake bombs though, and those came out quickly as they were pretty pricey. I ordered a cocktail that never said it was frozen, but came out filled with little ice pellets that took up most of the glass. I ordered veggie tempura and was charged the same amount as the veggie + shrimp one even though it came with one piece less. My sushi roll came out with no chopsticks, no soy sauce, and I ended up having to eat it with a fork. It was dry and disgusting. My friend's sushi somehow came out 45 minutes later, even though we ordered it at the same time. After letting them know I was vegetarian, they brought out some unidentifiable soup and after managing to flag someone down to ask if it was vegetarian, they told me "probably not". No one seemed to know what was in it, or why I was brought it after explicitly stating my dietary instructions. During the hibachi experience, all the fun tricks that other tables got were missing. It was lazy, sloppy, and our table felt like an afterthought. Keep in mind this reservation was to celebrate our friend's birthday, and due to the 1.5 hours we had to wait for our hibachi chef, the rest of the evening festivities were messed up. The icing on the cake was having to auto tip 20% for the worst service and worst dining experience of my life. I don't say this lightly, but Kaze needs to close down. What a despicable excuse for a restaurant. I can only warn you against visiting - you will regret it. read more

Our appetizers and entrees were wonderful but the mochi was hard and dry. We brought it to the attention of the server who brought the manager to our table. We had eaten two bites of the six pieces ordered and the manager was only willing to give us half off of the mochii he said because the server had already brought it to our table. This was my first time visiting, and it will definitely be my last. I was served raw chicken, which is a serious health hazard and completely unacceptable. When we brought it to the staff's attention, the situation was handled very poorly. Instead of taking accountability, management was dismissive and escalated the situation. During the interaction, the general manager became aggressive, and I was physically assaulted, which is completely unacceptable under any circumstance. Rather than resolving the issue professionally, the situation turned into a confrontation and the police were called. No to loud, even though they have karaoke available for all you singers. Jose and the whole wait staff was so attentive and just awesome. Everyone should and experience Kaze. When the food is cooked right in front of you you know what you're getting. The shrimp were fresh and my friends enjoy their steak, lobster and chicken. They enjoyed their meals. I used to order from here for my mother amd she loved it. She is no longer here so I have not thought about them since they closed due to a fire. However, they recently reopened so, my friend and I decided to venture over to see. The restaurant looks very nicely done. They have a bar section, a booth section and a table section. We opted for booth. My friend ordered chirashi and I ordered some vegetarian rolls. Server asked what we wanted to drink and he offered water or hot tea so we both ordered hot tea. Food was good and I would have given 4 stars except that, when we got the bill, they charged for the hot tea and added an auto.ativ gratuity of 18%. First of all, tea is always gratis at a Japanese restaurant. I have NEVER paid for tea. And an automatic gratuity? I have no freedom to select my tip? This tipping is getting out of control in the US. No one gets tipped in Japan. Customer service is just second nature. It rubbed ME the wrong way completely. I doubt I will go back here or to any restaurant which dictates what I should tip. Don't we have enough dictating right now in this country? Ugh. Serviceable hibachi on upper Greenville. This place can get PACKED on weekdays right around 630 but it's pretty empty by 8pm. The service is why I docked it a star but the food is tasty. The hosts and wait staff did not seem very hospitable at all. They almost seemed a little annoyed to be taking care of you but may have been an off nice for us. The food itself is quite tasty and the chefs do put on a great show. Our kids loved the fire display and we liked that they have a children's menu as well. The food can get pricey (chicken is a little over $20 and steak can easily get over $40). If you get apps and drinks you are looking at a hefty check. We had a group of 7 and that was enough to get us a private table which was super nice. All the food was delicious and they do a good job of making sure you get what you ordered and steaks cooked to the temps you wanted. Pro tip: get a lot of the yum yum sauce! Very disappointed with my visit here, there are other locations that are much better! I'm learning that they're owned by different people. I always go to the mesquite location and love it but this time chose different due to me being nearby. First, I walked in during lunch for a hibachi meal and was met with dismay as I was alone (other locations seat me anyway and service me, also others soon follow to join the table) this wasn't an option. Secondly, prior to receiving my order, a small bug was walking across my table... looks to be a fly, that I had to smush with my napkin but even worse once my food arrived another fly was pestering me and I immediately had to leave. The guests that were seated after me, table wasn't even cleaned and they waited an excess amount of time to place their order. I also had to look around several times for assistance waitress (seems to be poorly understaffed) I couldn't properly enjoy my meal as I spent most of the time looking for assistance. I ordered a combination meal with double fried rice no veggies, I received the veggies and the double rice as they charged me for the second rice ( this is unusual at the other location when I ask to replace my veggies with more rice... there's no issue). And to top it all off, my order was mostly cold when I received it, I say mostly because the rice was kind of warm and the steak as well, kinda warm. The salmon was cold. Honestly, if I knew I'd be paying $70 for one person for Hibachi I would've went somewhere else. I've been coming here for years and I guess from previous reviews there's new management and you get charged for everything. Ordered the chicken and shrimp combo, double rice instead of veggies with the sake sample and my friend also ordered a sake bomb, ny steak and shrimp combo with rice and pasta and the temptation sushi. Ideally, my chicken/shrimp combo should cost $30 plus a drink making it $40ish. The sake bomb on the menu states $11 but on my receipt it was $17 (beer and sake) and then you get charged for double rice when it truly looked the same size as a regular order and she even got charged for making her meal a combo rice/pasta. It was $165 because they also added gratuity. It was 2 of us and at 4:30pm. I've been to multiple hibachi style restaurants in the area and have never paid that much for one person, ever. The only positive I can say about my experience was the cook was fun to work with, other than that, really disappointed in this place. read more

Our party of 25 had reservations in the karaoke room since that was the only place they could seat us. Service is SLOW. It took almost an hour before the hibachi chefs came. Prices are pretty high, but granted you're paying for the experience. Our chef was nice and gave everyone tiny portions of extra food that he prepared. The show was cheesy and fun.
