Delicious food. Exactly the "mom & pop" you crave. We had breakfast here. The omelette are PACKED with ingredients. Hash browns are crispy. Thick bacon, good coffee. We had Jean as our server. From an online article, we learned she has been there since 1978. She gave awesome service. Although it was early and not yet full of customers, the food delivery was extremely quick. We will be back for lunch, as I bet the Burgers & fries here are the bomb! read more

I do miss having pie/dinner at Kay's-have not been able to make it here much since they started closing in the afternoon.

This place is great. It's not the cheapest diner in the world, but the food is excellent and the portions are typically American (aka enormous). There's rarely a wait, the service is almost too friendly, and every omelette and skillet I've tried has been top notch. As a former diner cook, I especially appreciate the fact that Kay's does not rush their hash browns. When you order browns later in the day, the cook won't have any half done on the grill already, as they would during the rush. They have to start with frozen shreds and they simply take a while to get properly crispy - 15 minutes, at least. It's easy to just toss greasy, soft, undercooked browns onto a plate and move on to the next order, but whoever has cooked my inevitably late-morning breakfasts has never rushed the hash browns. They always come out crispy. read more

My wife and I ate breakfast here while in town on vacation. Great find!! The wait staff were excellent. Very attentive and seemed cheerful in the process. I had a twist on the benedict with hash browns instead of the english muffin. I think I'll go back and have that again. They also have a salmon benedict that sounds really good. Cute little place!! read more

Kay's Kitchen is the go to place for the traditional Saturday breakfast buffet complete with egg bakes, bacon and sausage, rolls, fruit selections, and so on. But it's the menu items that really stand out and make this place great. I love the various omelet and pancake options. Potato pancakes, yes! Buckwheat pancakes, absolutely! The service has always been friendly and quick. read more

Great breakfast and great prices. Both the original location is St. Joe and the new location at a Midtown Mall are AMAZING!

Stopped for brunch when in town visiting family. Great breakfast menu available all day. The apple cakes were delicious, apples baked right inside topped with cinnamon and sugar, yum! read more

Amazing Classic American diner. It reminds you of a time when people stood up for what's right and fought for the little guy. I have been here for the buffet, lots of options and always hot. Again for the pie and was delightful! Recommend if you going though St. joe. Hope you enjoy! read more

Kay's Kitchen - Yummy!! Pecan Pie and strawberry cheesecake pie. - American Near Me - Saint Joseph, Minnesota

I have only been there once for a breakfast. The decor is "simple" to say the least. The service was very friendly and the food was very fast and hot!!! The pricing was very cheap. I would recommend going there for a decent, hot meal, if you are short on time - better all around then fast food. read more

This is one of the best breakfast places in the St. Cloud area and from what I have heard it has improved vastly over the last few years. We were there on a busy Saturday morning. Service was spotty but workable. Forgot some items and disappeared at times, but were covering a lot of tables. For example, they forgot my egg and brought it after breakfast was complete and then didn't charge me for it - but only after I complained. Buckwheat pancakes were ok. Potato pancakes were excellent. Biscuits and gravy were good. We will be back to try more of the menu. They had a lot of healthy options. They have some "fancy" oatmeals and egg white omelets. Its a great place to bring the kids. read more

Kay's is quaint and sparkles with small-town charm. The menu includes the history of the restaurant and all the wonderful women who have owned it in time past. Their food is traditional American and is incredibly fresh. Their prices are so great - or proof that I've been eating at city restaurants too long! If you are in the area and are hungry - Kay's is a sure thing :) read more

Decided to go here for breakfast as I've had a previously good visit. We sat and ordered, my friend having got the breakfast buffet and me getting some menu items. Things were great from the start nice staff, timely fashion etc. Food comes out, my friend on his second plate from the buffet, I had no complaints on the corned beef hash plate. The tortilla wrap on the other hand was made in a way that if you bit into it you'd get a mouthful of one item like cheese, and if you bit into another part maybe some eggs, unless you had a big mouth, so I had a couple bites and discarded the rest. The buffet, oof, my friend said the eggs(which were powdered eggs) were horrible, and hard. The sausage patty's were hard and tasted off. He spit both the eggs and sausage out. The crepes were only half filled with filling, so the first few bites were nothing but the crepe shell and maybe a mouthful of filling per crepe. Time to get out check we waited 10 minutes for our server to notice we were finished, which she didn't understandable it's busy, I had to interrupt her helping the table behind us in fear she would walk past us again and not say anything. She brings us the check and we head to the register to pay. No line, and there was a women at the register typing in an order I presume, we waited a couple minutes before she acknowledged us in a rude manner 'I promise I'm not ignoring you, I'll be with you in a minute'. She walks away but another lady comes to the register, ignores us as well as she typed things in, the women from before comes back to help her and then they both walk away. Ok we're ready to go it'll take a minute to check us out, instead we were barley acknowledged and ignored. Another few minutes go by and finally the lady returns and checks us out. It's great for college students because they will eat anything, but not if you actually want a decent breakfast. read more

This place was delicious! A little packed, I definitely didn't feel like they were following social distancing guidelines.

Really great food! The kitchen was a little slow but server remained attentive and provided regular updates. All staff and other patrons were very friendly too. Will make this a regular place to stop when in the area! read more

Came in this morning to get breakfast no hi or hello. They acted like we did not exist. We left.

Amazing service... Friendly staff... Good size portions and really good food. I had a Western Omelette, hash Browns and wheat toast and it was something I definitely would order again... Check them out... You won't be disappointed! read more

Kay's Kitchen - American Near Me - Saint Joseph, Minnesota

After mediocre breakfast experiences around the cloud, we decided to drive out to Kay's and give it a shot--parking was at a premium and I was a little disappointed before we got inside, anticipating a long wait. But lo and behold, upon entering, did we discover the counter to be nearly empty and we sat down right away, and waited only moments for a HUGE cup of coffee (bless their hearts). My fella and I ordered a CFS breakfast and a Buckwheat pancake breakfast and both were really good--the CFS crust was so dank, seriously one of the best I've ever had. The buckwheat pancakes were sublime! Additionally, our service was friendly and damn do those servers hustle! We really enjoyed our breakfast experience, and each took a slice of pie home to try--seriously, if they have the sour cream-raisin pie in the case, get it because even if it's not your usual choice, it's SO unique and HELLA delicious. We'll totally be back! read more

Kay's Kitchen is a St. Joseph staple. It's traditionally where mom and dad take their college-age kid attending St. John's or St. Ben's out to eat when they come to visit. They're known for their excellent breakfasts, their homemade pies, and different buffet lunches that they offer during weekdays and weekends. You'll get hometown service with a smile, and can choose to eat at the dining counter or the dining room. It's a local, small town, cafe that offers everything you hoped such a restaurant would. read more

Inconsistent food quality. I was there a couple weeks ago for the fish buffet and the fried fish (cod) was very good. I took my mother-in-law this past Friday and the fish (only Pollock on the buffet) was horrible. It seemed undercooked, was smashed up in the container from not being rotated, and was very salty. My mother-in-law tried the salmon on the buffet and it was so bad she couldn't eat it. Also the soda was flat... Very embarrassed as I suggested Kay's. Our server was a friendly. read more

Kay's is everything you want in an old school Mom & Pop diner: familiar dishes, great breakfast, good service, and amazing pie!

I worked here back in the day, so I'm probably a little biased. But don't miss this wonderful cafe. Any breakfast will impress you, and for lunch maybe the signature Dirk-l-burger. Waitstaff friendly and efficient--including local college students and one person who worked there when I did 30 years ago. (Yikes!) You can't go wrong... read more

We had breakfast and it was just ok. The hashbrowns were undercooked but the eggs and pancakes were good.

The place to see and be seen in St Joe. Minimal service. Food is edible, but disappointing. Soggy biscuits from whatever local food distributor they use, drowned in a lame excuse for sausage gravy. Actually tastes better if you have a solid hangover. I'm sure the food was awesome at one time, but they lost whatever touch they had with their rise in popularity. Oh well, Kids and people with no taste love it. read more

Frozen apperts quality food served in a dirty greasy smelling building. St Joe doesn't have a lot of choices for restaurants but that's no reason to visit this establishment. read more

One of my favorites in the St Cloud area. Real American food. Fast service. Plenty to eat. This place has been there as long as I can remember, and I date back to Harry Truman. There used to be lots of places like this. Now it is mostly chain restaurants. I am glad Kay's is still Kay's. I had fish and my wife had chicken. Both delicious. Place is always crowded, but kept clean. Parking is a bit cramped. No dirty dishes on the table. Staff are fast but talk to you on the fly. Ate there 3 times in 2 weeks. Wish we had a place like this in Texas, They say you can't go home. Kay's makes me feel at home when I return to St Cloud. read more

Fantastic breakfast. Friendly and super competent service combined with diner food that goes above and beyond. The ham in the western omelette was flavorful and not rubbery. The wheat toast was quality bread and came warm, not just ice cold 99 cent dough bread. I would return to Kay's anytime I'm i. The St Cloud area. read more

Excellent breakfasts. I ordered their Greek omelette with feta cheese And added avocado. This area really had a lack of good places for breakfast and was very happy with our meal. Very much worth the drive out of town for this local place. I will be back. read more

This was a very good restaurant. The wait was not long and there was tons of stuff for breakfast on the menu. There's not a lot of seating and it's not a big building, but everything worked out. They also have great portion sizes. I ac finished my plate and I wasn't still hungry. read more

Delightful place with cheerful staff, nice senior menu options and good food. I took my hubs for breakfast yesterday and we both enjoyed eggs, sausage and coffee that was tasty for a nice price. The St. Cloud location is great as well. read more

What would Saint Joe be without Kay's Kitchen. Quite a legacy going way back to the days when the LaPlayette offered gourmet dining and the owners moved onto another food venture. That legacy continues today with Tanya and her happy loyal staff. Best breakfasts and a lunch buffet all from scratch. read more

Good service. Friendly staff. Home cook feeling. Favorite eggs beni style. Sunday brunch has huge variety with pastries and fruit

Kay's Kitchen was wonderful. Very cute restaurant. The Food was delicious and service was great. I'm pretty sure Kay took care of us and she new just about every person in the place. We were here from out of town and she took the time to tell us a story. Had the Silver Spoon Omelette and 1/2 of a Carmel roll. If you in the neighborhood stop by. This place was great! read more

After four years of St. John excursions this is still my favorite restaurant in the area. Good food, good service, but man o man, those pies. Seriously...go for the pie.. and maybe one to take home. Then order some for Thanksgiving. Maybe give them away for presents??? read more

I've only been there twice lately because I haven't lived here that long. Both times were for breakfast. This place rocks. Easily beats any place in St. Cloud for breakfast. First time I've given them a 10, second time I'd give them 9.5. The only thing they could have improved the second time would've been not to serve cold tomatoes on my eggs Benedict. Eggs get cold fast enough without a cold tomato. read more

Great " little diner" Service was great. Food was great too. Had bacon & eggs and upgraded to there pancakes with apples inside batter. My new favorite breakfast place if we ever go to st.cloud. :-) read more

We had probably the best burger ever here. Fresh beef. Bakery bun toasted on the grill. A true old style diner. A bunch of homemade pies too. The snicker peanut butter fudge pie was a decadent treat. Old school diner ambiance with great food. We ordered off the menu. We did not opt for the buffet so we can't critique that. read more

Great service, great food! Omelets are great, hash browns are perfect, I don't think you could find a better spot for breakfast.

Friendly staff and an amazing buffet for a good price! I haven't had so much bacon in my life - it was great.

I have been to Kay's many times and it is hands down the best place for breakfast I've ever been to. I can also vouch from experience that they have one of the cleanest kitchens I've ever seen. If your in the area and looking for great cafe food, this is the place for you. read more

Phenomenal food and service for a small diner. Worth a trip out of your way if you're around St. Cloud. Popular with locals. The breakfast and pies are the best, but all the dinners are solid too. The Eggs Benedict is my favorite, but they also have good specials in the evenings on a regular basis. read more
