We recently went to Kaufman Tavern for a company Christmas dinner, and I will absolutely be going back! From the beautiful Christmas decorations to the delicious food, I highly recommend checking this place out. We started off with drinks from their seasonal cocktail menu and had the Crispy Calamari and Crawfish Dip, both were excellent. I ordered the halibut, which was perfectly cooked, and the Brussels sprouts and fingerling potatoes were roasted to perfection. Several people at our table ordered the steak and said that it was delicious. Our waitress was attentive and friendly and offered great recommendations. We came to town looking to go somewhere else, but it was all booked up and we were very personally surprised when we got into this place. The corn bacon appetizer was very good. The fried chicken sandwich was also breaded and seasoned to perfection. The fish special was good but very overpriced I believe. The hanger steak was consumed very quickly by my 19-year-old. The espresso rubbed filet mignon won me over. I hate coffee and anything coffee flavored, so ordering that was a big risk, but I was REALLY in the mood for steak. Our waitress convinced me to try it and she wasn't wrong. She also helped me decide to get the white chocolate pumpkin spice martini as a starter. I was in a weird mood that night. I thoroughly enjoyed my shrimp bisque and shared a few appetizers from everyone's plates. I loved the calamari and that crawfish dip. I was here for a big family dinner with friends and not a single person said anything negative about what they ordered all night. Our waitress did a great job keeping up and I wish I wrote her name down so I could give extra kudos to her, but she's getting married soon so if she looks at these reviews, she'll know who she is. I really enjoyed the old timey decor and the fact that this hotel-turned-restaurant is steeped in history. It's a clean and classy time capsule, but also a bit on the loud side (volume-wise). I went to Kaufman Tavern for a bridal shower over the weekend, and I will absolutely be going back to try their menu independently sometime. The event space in which the bridal shower was held was beautiful, from the wainscoting, to the herringbone floors, to the antique mirror over the fireplace. Though our servers weren't the most attentive (we didn't get refills until the main course was served), the food was very well done. The crostini's toppings were fresh and tangy, the salad was fresh, and the rice and corn with the creamy sauce (not pictured) was delicious. The star of the show was the steak. It was perfectly cooked and cut like butter, and the accompanying sauce was a great pairing that didn't take too much away from the steak itself. The potatoes served with the steak were also very good. We had a very simple dessert of vanilla ice cream with pirouette cookies, and it was a lovely way to end our meals. If all the food at KT is this good, you are in for a treat. I definitely want to head back and try more! read more

This is a gorgeous tavern as the decor is superb. It's currently decorated for the holidays and my friends and I loved it. A group of us went here for and the server was amazing and very personable. I got the fish sandwich with fries and the fish sandwich was large and delicious. I got a sangria to drink and I would order it again, or go there solely for that drink as it was delightful. After church I was hungry so decided to try Kaufman Tavern and so glad I did. I stepped into a lovely historical building with a grand bar and numerous seating areas. I loved the ambiance, pictures, mirrors, wallpaper, etc. The lady bartender greeted me and helped me select my breakfast I chose the full meat omelet, potatoes and bacon. The coffee was delicious! and she kept it filled for me! The meal arrived very quickly and it was HUGE 4 egg omelet -- almost everyone left with a 'to-go' container as the portion sizes are very large. The bacon was crispy and delicious!!! and the omelet was hot and flavorful adn the potatoes wonderfully crisp. I truly enjoyed my breakfast and the atmosphere. Love sitting at the bar here for late lunch/early dinner after work. Teri the bartender is great. You can taste beers before deciding what you might like, and they have a large rotating selection, including lots of local taps. Their espresso martini is quite yummy. My favorites on the menu are the mushroom Swiss burger, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich, the skirt steak poutine... And their house made soups. But really you can't go wrong with most selections and I've honestly never had a bad meal here and I have been coming ever since they opened (we used to go here when it was the Kaufman House under different owners before there was a fire, and it was closed for a long time). It's housed in a historic building and they kept the renovations true to what the restaurant looked like before there was a kitchen fire. In the summertime, there are usually a few tables out front on the sidewalk and then there is also a back patio. If you go around the corner, you can park in a free lot behind the restaurant, which is nice. Lolev Brewing faces the back lot too. read more

Wild mushroom soup was good but got it after dinner. 4 brussel sprouts cut in half and I ordered cauliflower in place of potatoes. Maybe two tablespoons total. My wife had wild mushroom vegetable linguini in white wine sauce. She said it was very bland, and the sauce looked like butter. She did say it had a hint of white wine taste. Overall disappointed. A very nice place. Ambience is nice and options are good. The price point is high, and certain dishes are hit or miss. I got the halibut, and the entire dish was fine, except the fish was dry. It was really dry despite the blanc beurre. I didn't even want to eat the fish-- I was gonna take it home and re cook it into something else. Not worth $32 in my opinion. I love this place! I've never had a bad meal, and their bar area is one of my favorite places to hang out. Not pictured, but the Italian bread and the olive tapenade were fantastic. The briny olive mixed with luscious olive oil made for a great bite. Also, the smoked wings are a must! Buffalo sauce had great heat. The star of the show was my smoked salmon burger. The smoked flavor gave lox vibes, but it was a hearty amount of salmon. The richness was balanced perfectly with the onion and arugula. My side salad was fresh and had a great pop of acid. I must have been craving carbs and ripped a piece of my bun off in the pic... the bun was good and fresh, too! Washed it down with a Merlot. I will be back soon! read more

My wife wanted to try one last time to find a good fish sandwich that didn't require an hour+ drive on the turnpike so we started out heading to a Log Cabin Inn. We hadn't been there in years but always thought it was good. Scratched that idea when we were given a tiny table stuffed into a corner within 12" of the table next to us and to top it off the table was at a 30° angle due the floor. Shame on people who "create" space to make a buck even if it ruins the entire experience. Out the door we go and my wife finds Kaufman Tavern on yelp and it's right down the road in Zelienople. Kaufman Tavern was charming, very well kept and as we were soon to find out, a fantastic place to enjoy an evening out for dinner and drinks. We sat at a high top with a street view in the beautiful bar and were promptly greeted by our server AJ. After reviewing the menu and on recommendations by AJ, we orders the roasted cauliflower with Asiago and mustard as an appetizer, the fish sandwich for my wife and the Halibut special over Jasmin rice with arugula and summer salsa Roasted Cauliflower: *Perfectly executed in terms of texture and roasted flavor on the cauliflower *The mild nuttiness and creamy Asiago was accented by the slightly acidic and sharp mustard and when combined with the cauliflower this resulted in perfectly executed and delicious start. I actually stumbled upon this place when looking at another area restaurant. Their is a public parking lot in the rear and if you use the front doors the hostess stand is a little in to your right. We were promptly seated for our reservations. Inside is quiet and tables are spaced out enough to be able to converse with your party. I must say, every entree we ordered was fantastic, no one, not even the kids had any complaints, every thing was delicious! I am very apprehensive about ordering a steak from anywhere but my favorite steakhouse but the filet minion was cooked absolutely perfect with a medium red warm center and the price was more than reasonable. We elected for desert and the cheesecake was fantastic. We did not know upon arrival but their is a speak easy downstairs that is open Fridays and Saturdays. My husband and I went here to celebrate Valentine's Day and it's the perfect date night spot -- from the lighting to the decor to the history of the building, it's a romantic setting for sure. We started with the bruschetta appetizer and it was so fresh and delicious. I ordered the pork chop, which came with charred brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. It was great but I did question if it was fully cooked at its thickest part. My husband's New York strip was great -- it came with garlicky green beans and fingerling potatoes. The chocolate torte for dessert was great, but we should have asked if it contained nuts. The menu didn't say and my husband has a mild allergy so that could have turned out badly -- I took the first bite and was able to tell him there were walnuts in the crust. Stopped in here for lunch and it was really nice inside. Has a historical atmosphere with really nice seating. The hostess and waitress were both very friendly. In the menu it had the history of the location which was very interesting to read about. They have a large variety of drinks to choose from. Although we got their sweet tea which was very good. Then I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger and added bacon. My wife got the southern chicken sandwich. The burger was good but kind of bland, could have been seasoned a little bit more but the bacon I added did help. The chicken sandwich my wife really enjoy and said it was awesome. She is picky so if she liked it must have been really good! I would definitely like to come back and try more on their menu. read more

We have dined here many times before Covid but last night was my last time I will go to Kaufman Tavern. I made reservations a month a head of time for Valentines Dinner though Open Table on their website. I had reservations for 5:15pm we arrived at 5:00 and was told to they would seat us closer to 5:15pm so we had a seat by the Host desk I got a message though Open Table that are table was ready or text 1 if we were on are way OK!! so we were literally 2 feet away from Host desk 2 people working there and we had to go ask them if are table was ready because I got a message though Open Table , he said yes ( WOW what if I had not brought my phone with me). So we got seated and in the menu book was a special menu for Valentines Night but only in my husbands not one in mine. We sat and waited for 25 minutes no water served notting!! there was 3 waitresses in the room we were seated in and none would look our way only walk to there tables and then leave the room again. So after 25 minutes of being ignored we walked to Host Desk and said we were leaving she just said OK. So disappointed with this restaurant we had always enjoyed it in the past and had good service but wow has things changed after Covid Very sad it was a great Restaurant before hopefully they will hire a new manager who will change things. read more

We were asked if downstairs would be fine to eat, and we said yes. It was very unique in the wine cellar, and we really liked the atmosphere, but there was only another table of 4. I ordered the shrimp bisque, and I was a little underwhelmed. It did not taste like it was cooked enough, and I could almost still taste the stock. Dinners were great! We ordered a spicy manhattan and apple carmel mule to start. My mule was delish, the manhattan grew on my friend. My friend loved his bisque. The bread was fresh and delish, but the dipping sauce was a little bland. He ordered the special which was jumbo scallops and lump crab over cauliflower mashed potatos with brussel sprouts. And I got the pork chop in a demi glaze, with mashed potatos and brussel sprouts. My pork chop was thick and big, but at times not very juicy. My potatos were very good, but my brussel sprouts lacked seasoning. My friend loved his scallops and crab, but found his cauliflower mashed potatos had too much garlic and was not a fan. This restaurant is absolutely gorgeous with lots of character. This review is an average of two visits, both for special occasions - one being 2 stars and one being 4 stars. My most recent experience was somewhat of a letdown as both of our entrees were overcooked (my lamb chops and her mahi). This represented about 60% of our meal so it was disappointing to say the least. The crab cake appetizer and peanut butter pie dessert were both fine. Our waitress was friendly, but we made our reservation via OpenTable and asked for a little bit of privacy as this was our anniversary meal and first time out since our son was born. We were instead seated right by the entrance to the dining room and our occasion wasn't even mentioned. Our previous experience was with a larger group and we were put in the wine storage area in the basement which was much more private but a great experience. Much like my recent trip, my steak was overcooked so this seems to be a common problem. read more

We had a terrible experience. Server had entirely too many tables and was also making drinks . We waited 45 min for drinks , so we didn't even bother try ordering food as we had tickets to a show at the Strand and weren't confident we would get our food in time . We felt horrible for the server who was clearly over worked . We asked to speak to the manager to let him know of our experience - he ended up discounting our drinks which was nice , but initially looked at us blank faced when we spoke to him - my friend had to say this is the part where you apologize . He seriously seemed that he could care less . They should never have seated people if they were unable to serve drinks/food in a reasonable timeframe. read more
