Met a friend who was in town for the night and someone at the hotel recommended Speer's Steakhouse. What a lovely restaurant. I had had a big lunch so opted for the chopped salad with grilled chicken. The other two had the prime rib special and ordered two sides loaded whipped potatoes and smoked creamed corn. Both were delicious but they probably only needed one side, If any at all. The freshly baked bread was delicious. The salad was great and my friends enjoyed their prime rib. I couldn't even finish my wine because the grease from both the fries and burger coated my mouth. I think even the server knew I was very displeased with the food. He kind of just kept his head down. This is over about 3-4 times we went here starting with our anniversary July 3, 2025. Their "Happy Hour" menu is really good. The French Dip is pretty good but needs more flavor to Au Jus, so I added some S&P and better. Crabcakes are really good as well as the Potatoes Gratin. The Raw Oysters were OK, but they were not cut from the bottom shell Did not like the Crab Risotto at all, and Lobster mac N Cheese was ok. Drinks are pretty good as wife loved the Royal Martini and another drink that was Italian and can't remember name but was really good. The Chocolate Mousse was not really good as left that heavy film taste in my mouth, maybe gelatin... Overall the few times we went here were good so will be back for particular items read more

Overpriced and underwhelming. Service was unbearably slow in the bar area--over 15 minutes for a glass of wine and a Manhattan. The Manhattan (made with Angel's Envy) which we ended up being charged $32 for! The bartender said that all of their Manhattans are doubles so that's the price. Ended up at Napa Prime later that evening for a Maker's Manhattan for under $20 (and prepared like one would expect from a steakhouse). Poke bowl appetizer was basic. Tuna was very fresh, but the presentation left a lot to be desired. Also just cut up the tuna and avocado. No marinade. No flavor. This was our second or third time at Speer's and we really wanted to like it but left disappointed every time. Your money will be better spent at Napa Prime, Off the Hook or Elia. We had such a great evening here! Beautiful interior - chic, classy, and tasteful. Such a beautiful restaurant. We had excellent service too! For food, we had focaccia, which was excellent! The seasoned oil it came with was a flavor bomb. Spice, heat, and yumminess on some fantastic; airy focaccia. We also had meatballs, which came with a sweet and sour sauce. And, wow, were these good. I didn't expect the sauce, and it was a nice change from red sauce. There was a slight heat that had me wanting to keep eating the sauce. The bacon tasting is a fun experience. We enjoyed all the flavors from sweet to mustard. The bacon was thick and cooked well. For entrees, I had a filet. It was cooked to perfection. Nice sear on the outside and the center melted away. A remarkable cook on my steak. My wife loved her chicken. So much garlic and she raved about it (and I did, too!!). I had roasted carrots for a side, and they were divine. TLDR? A fantastic overall experience with excellent food in a weird location. Minor room for improvement. I ate at Speer's last night with a coworker while we've been on the road. We sat at the bar and had a fantastic dinner with great service. Let's break it down.. The Old Fashioned I had was perfectly crafted, due in large part to the nice touch of the big rock. I skipped the starter, going straight to the main course. I made a slightly off-menu choice, by requesting my steak be prepared au poivre style, with a peppercorn crust. My steak was well-seasoned, a perfect medium rare, with the crust and sauce on the side. Never in a million years would I have expected a steak this good from a location like this. Side dish? Went classic with the whipped potatoes. They were ok. A bit more butter and some garlic would go a long way. Location? Bizarre. Outstanding decor and nice layout. But it's buried in a strip mall with a Wendy's and a casual Mexican restaurant. Menu? OMG, pare that thing down. The number of choices of sides is excessive. Plus, it's a steakhouse without a calamari appetizer. Wild. Bottom line? I had an excellent meal. The bones of a great menu are there, but it needs to be refined. Can't really change the location stuff, but it was just strange. Attentive, high quality service at the bar. Beautiful. & cozy atmosphere . Nice wine list and delicious cocktails - Magee was our bartender and he was professional, friendly & made a smooth dry martini . We sat at the bar and had the meatball, grilled oysters and bacon appetizers . We really liked the glaze on the meatballs - reminded us of tender meatloaf. Bacon was crispy and meaty and we enjoyed all 3 styles (mustard , creamy blue cheese and a sweet maple) we would order both again . I forgot until it was too late to snap a photo of the grilled oysters. They were good and fresh , but I personally just prefer a Parmesan crust , so I wouldn't order them again . We ordered eggs Benedict. They had prepared the eggs in advance, and they were cold. The Holland day sauce was warm. The only thing that was hot and the right temperature with the potatoes. We were disappointed that when the manager was told, it didn't really seem to matter to her. Looks great. Tastes like regret. Speer's Steakhouse has clearly invested in appearances. The exterior is new and modern, and the interior is well-designed, comfortable, and upscale -- everything you'd expect from a premium steakhouse. Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends. We started with the whipped goat cheese, which looked promising but was a total letdown. It had the texture you'd want but almost no flavor -- like someone whipped air into a whisper of cheese and hoped the ambiance would carry it. The Farro Salmon? Brutal. So dry and overcooked it resembled cat food more than cuisine. It flaked apart like old jerky and had absolutely no moisture left in it. I ordered the crab risotto without peppers due to a sensitivity -- and it arrived with peppers. Not a sprinkle. Not a garnish. Loaded with them. When you're paying top dollar, listening to the diner should be the minimum standard. The loaded whipped potatoes tasted like the instant kind you'd find at a gas station fast food joint trying to moonlight as a diner. Grainy, flavorless, and oddly gluey -- how do you mess up potatoes this badly? And then, the main event. The $80 American Wagyu Ribeye. Ordered medium rare. What arrived was a steak sliced half an inch thick. Anyone who's ever cooked a steak knows that this is an unforgivable choice -- it guarantees one of two outcomes: raw or rubber. Ours was the latter. Chewy, dry, and absolutely destroyed. This is not how you treat expensive beef. This is how you treat hamburger at Waffle House. It screamed, "Get it out fast," not "crafted with care." We politely let our server know about the problems -- all of them. She apologized... and then brought us the full bill without even a conversation with the manager or a single adjustment. Which tells me this kind of thing happens so often, she didn't even bother trying. Just smiled and hoped we'd still tip. Bottom line: If you're looking for a steak cooked with the care and precision it deserves, do yourself a favor and go to Napa Prime. It's cheaper, far better, and won't make you feel like you've been scammed into paying fine-dining prices for a fast-food mentality. read more

I was so hopeful when we walked in. The place was packed and the bar is so cool. The atmosphere is perfect and unique in the cranberry area. The wine list is amazing and well priced. It took over 40 minutes to get salad and only received bread after asking 3 times and that came 15 minutes after the salad. My friend got the French onion soup and he said it was not just a little salty but extra salty. He did not finish it 100 minutes into our stay after ordering we finally got our meals. My wife and I had the aged steak and it was good and cooked perfectly. The downside was that I had to cut 30% of it off as fat and my wife cut a bit more. The water for some reason was so bad none of us wanted to drink it and we had to order bottled water. My advice. Check the place out. Order some wine, avoid the soup and do not be in a hurry. We were there almost 2-1/2 hours I am not a fan of meals that long If they can fix the soup and water most importantly the wait times this place will rock. Stopped here for brunch on Sunday and this was my first visit. Only open for a little over a month, so give them time to sort out staff and kitchen. First observation is that they are serious about what they are trying to make happen. It's is just a beautiful job of remodeling the mess that was here before. Drink cocktails were excellent and the shrimp and grits were phenomenal! Heard that the recipe is from the chefs grandmother or mother and they are from the south, and it shows that. Definitely worth trying! The remodel of this building is fantastic - absolutely beautiful! The staff is extremely pleasant and attentive. The food is really good with a few exceptions. The wine list has a nice variety of price points and some classic selections. The menu is pretty typical of a steakhouse with a few exceptions. Biscuits were brought to our table and they were definitely unique and tasty. We started with the mussels and the sauce on them was tasty but unexpected- curry was the overwhelming flavor. They were definitely good and unlike any mussels I've had before. The focaccia that was served with them was dry - so it definitely needed the sauce to make it worth eating. We pretty much skipped it. Next was the Caesar salad created and served table side - delicious! Don't change a thing! For our main course we shared a filet with mushrooms and au poivre sauce, gnocchi carbonara, and creamed spinach (which is my favorite steakhouse side). The filet was cooked and seasoned perfectly, the mushrooms were very good, and the au poivre sauce had a unique spin in flavor but very tasty. The creamed spinach was spot on delicious. If we would have stopped with those the meal would have been pretty perfect. But, we also had ordered the gnocchi carbonara too. The presentation was terrible - sadly it had no attempt to even make it look nice. It looked like a plate of scrambled eggs with gray dumplings. We attempted to try it and it was definitely not worth eating. There were chunks of egg instead of a sauce - not at all what carbonara should be. The eggs and cheese should be added to the pasta to create the carbonara sauce - not become scrambled eggs on the pasta. Overall, this was a great experience. I cannot wait to try other things! Next time I will stick to the steakhouse classics as that seems to be spot on with some welcome twists. read more

Gave this upscale expensive steakhouse another try after nearly a year. so old thing. The service is not good nor is the quality of the food or even the presentation. The bar is very nice but we ordered 4 cocktails for our party of 4, they were not properly done, in fact one person sent it back giving exact instructions on how mix it, again it was still awful. I stand by my last review. This place is NOT an upscale steakhouse, it is the owners of BreakNeck trying to capitalize but not delivering the quality, service or value you would expect for the kind of money you are paying.Quite frankly I'm shocked they are still in business. I went with my family on Saturday night to try the new local steakhouse. Here are my thoughts. Beautiful job in redesigning the interior and exterior of the building. We started with the caesar salad that was prepared table side by Liam. He did a great job and spoke to us about the restaurant as well. My son and I ordered the ribeye. Both steaks were overcooked as we ordered them medium rare. I had to send mine back to the kitchen. The kitchen did a great job of grilling a wagyu steak for me. The mushroom side dish was excellent and my wife had a salad for her entree. The drinks were good with a good selection of wines by the glass. I just read through the other reviews and was frankly shocked that others haven't had a good experience at Speer's. Now, we have only come for brunch twice, but both have been great. The Prime Rib hash is insane and so is the Jumbo cinnamon roll. I will say the Bloody Mary leaves some to be desired, it's light on flavor. Ambiance is great and so is the service. I ordered the steak omelette this time and am looking forward to it as well as the espresso Manhattan. We will be here for dinner at the end of the month and will post another review then, but this is our go-to special brunch spot from now on, hands down! read more

The atmosphere was lovely and the service was excellent. We sat at a booth in the bar area, and had multiple servers come up to us to be sure we were being served. The food was good, but overall, not worth the price. I feel I would rather go to one of the downtown steak houses and feel like I got something special. Filet was good, but not great. The whipped potatoes were exceptional!! Broccolini and asparagus were good - but not remarkable. I will agree with others--those biscuits were unique and delicious. It didn't help that our bill was boogered up and did not give us the Happy Hour prices. Not sure if I will go back.....which is a bummer cuz I really wanted to luv it read more

Tried Speers steakhouse last night for the first time. Got there late, around 8:45 and sat at the bar. Place is decorated very nicely and the bar has a cool vibe. Last night the bartender's friends (1/8/25) at 7:30 PM were obnoxious and the only ones at the bar while I was at a booth. Would have sworn I was dining at a Denny's on how they were behaving. So my wife and I decided to visit Speers for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. Overall the atmosphere is great and the waiter was very good! But they just could NOT cook my filet to a nice 'Rare+'. The first time was mid-rare+ and the second time it was medium well. They offered to cook a 3rd steak. But by then all the side dishes were cold... Everything that was brought to the table was of high quality flavor-wise!! Everything was a bit over-priced as well, especially for the quantity of food received. While they did give us an adjustment to the bill for the poor cooking of the filet.... You don't expect the 2nd steak to be poorly cooked as well- especially at an upscale place. It felt like they are "trying" to be more of a fine dining establishment ...but they are missing the mark with that. Also, the great service by the waiter ended when I sent the first steak back.... Almost like I ruined his evening? He stopped attending to us?? Not sure what that was about? All in all. Good food, high priced, good atmosphere....
