We enjoyed our experience here on a warm Sunday evening. It was surprisingly busy so we sat at the bar and were promptly greeted by our bartender. It was a nice atmosphere inside. We made it just in time for happy hour so ordered the Iris drink and a beer. For food we had the meatballs, fried artichokes and a mini mortadella pizza all on special for happy hour. It was fun to watch the pizza being cooked on the wood fired oven. Everything was very good though the meatballs could have been served warmer. The fried artichokes were really delicious. We were so excited to return but left a little disappointed. From a food standpoint, everything was a little underwhelming. The antipasto plate's meats were very fatty with an off putting texture . The pickled veggies were overwhelming. Our Margherita pizza was so thin it was almost transparent. The cheese slid off immediately. The crust was yummy, however. The Caesar salad was plentiful and had excellent flavor. That was the star of the show. Service was okay. We weren't given refills until the end of our meal. Maybe just an off night. This is my second visit to Della Terra. I live in Maryland and planned a trip through Zelienople to bring my husband here for dinner. I'm so glad I did. The restaurant is located in an old bank building and the ambiance here is lovely. We chose the 5 course for two which is chef selected. It did not disappoint. We started with the polenta fries with the tomato basil aioli dipping sauce. The fries were hot, crispy and loaded with flavor. The sauce gave them a nice punch of flavor and was a nice addition. Next, we had the green goddess which included shaved asparagus and snow peas with mixed greens which was a lovely departure from your run of the mill Green Goddess. The lemon zest and ricotta balanced each other nicely. Next was the porchetta genovese pizza. Delicious! The olive oil flavor from the pesto sauce was stellar. We each had a slice and took the four remaining slices home so we could finish the two additional courses to come. Next, the Mafalda Cacciatore, a braised rabbit ragu. The meat was moist and the homemade pasta is the stuff dreams are made of. We finished our dinner with the tiramisu. Left to my own devices, I wouldn't have chosen tiramisu, so I'm happy it was chef's choice. This tiramisu was head and shoulders above all past tiramisu's I've eaten. The ladyfingers were moist without being soggy, the coffee flavor was strong without being overwhelming and the zabione was creamy deliciousness. I'm going to dream about this dessert. I just know it. Our server was Natalie and she has truly perfected the art of her craft. She timed our meal beautifully, described each dish she delivered, and answered our questions. On top of that she had a warm and friendly personality to boot. Finally, I have no idea how Della Terra has a rating below a 4! I'm absolutely baffled. I read a LOT of reviews and I love good food and good service. Both of these things are in abundance here. The ambience as I said is wonderful and their background music is at the perfect level. We made a reservation and paid a 25$ fee for our spot. The establishment is rather dim it was an old bank and so there is not much additional lighting. It was kind of loud in the restaurant and music was playing. They had happy hour but they required you to be sitting at the bar to have the drink specials which seemed a little strange because the appetizer specials were available at the table. The meatballs were delicious and my table ordered three rounds. The fried risotto was heavy on the saffron and tasted just a little bit like sewer. The pastas were good a friend and I split our dinners and the Apple Nutella dessert was amazing. Came here recently on a weeknight, since we were in the area, and had heard about this place, so I was excited to try it. The food was delicious! Della Terra is a perfect restaurant if you are looking for delicious food and drinks. The atmosphere and staff were upscale and welcoming, while the food and drinks were fresh and flavorful. Each couple ordered a different appetizer, but we ordered the meatballs. You receive two meatballs over polenta, which was the perfect size for two people to share. For dinner, our group ordered just about one of everything. Not one person had anything negative to say about their dish. Each flavor in the pasta dishes paired perfectly with each other, the steak was cooked just the way all steaks should be, and the pizzas were tasty. They do have a happy hour, but our waitress explained that it is only at the bar. If you plan to bring a cake to celebrate a birthday, be ready to pay a $2 fee per person. The parking situation is not the best, so be sure to arrive early to find a spot. Also, the menu options change often, so a dish you love may not be available next time you dine here. If I am ever in the area again, I would love to try more dishes from Della Terra. read more

1st time here...3rd stop with my pizza passport. Snuck into a single spot at bar 10 mins after open which shows how popular they are. Had a spot right next to the fire to watch the kitchen bust their butt to put out great looking food. Ordered the nduja pie which came out as a 4 cut (thought it was 1 slice). The nduja and fresh mozz paired well but the real stars were the roasted shallots that pulled everything together. The sauce was thin and delicious. Crust had a perfect char up top...super thin and a bit floppy in the center. Had the tiramisu for dessert and it was a great end to the meal as well. Start by saying we had a res. @ 6:30, were seated on time, and our dinner was served at 8:15! There were so many things: empty salad/appetizer plates sat in front of us for over 1/2 hour before our server thought to stop by , and then said "Your dinners should be up shortly". 10-15 minutes later, I called her over to ask about our dinners, and she said "Well, the kitchen had a big take out order". This was probably at least an hour after we placed our order. Our dinners finally came at 8:15. As it relates to the food, two of us had caesar salads that were soaked in dressing and SO much garlic, and the cacio e pepe was "so-so" at best. We ordered garlic bread since no bread would be served with dinner. Again, SO much garlic that it was NOT good at all. Shortly after our dinners came, our server came back to the table. We thought she was going to offer an apology for the slow service. Instead, she said "I'm going home now". She told us the name of the person who would be taking over. There were 4 of us at dinner..two couples. When asked, we told them we wanted separate checks. When we got our checks, the wine for both couples was on one check. Also, we were charged $0.50 for parmesan cheese...for the pasta! Unbelievable! Here is the part that irritated me more than anything. I left a phone message for the manager the next morning. I specifically said that I wanted to give my feedback directly vs. on social media/internet sites. No call back. I called again, and the person who answered said: "We gave him your message". Still no call back. One other note: When I left the phone message, I specifically said that I was not looking for any kind of compensation. I just wanted to provide my feedback directly through a conversation". Apparently, not worth his/her time. No call back...three days later. We first dined at this restaurant about one month ago. Yet another Zeli restaurant I've been to recently that's great. I came here on a girl's night, and we got a spacious corner table for the 4 of us. We did get there just slightly early and had to wait a few minutes for our table to be ready. We sat at the bar, and each got a different cocktail. They were all great! When we sat down, we ordered a liter of house red wine for the table. I was the only one who didn't love it. It had almost a carbonated taste, like a lambrusco, and just isn't my favorite kind of wine. That's okay because that was literally the only critique I have of the whole night. The service and food were excellent! For appetizers, we ordered garlic bread, meatballs, and fried artichokes. They were all so good! The garlic bread was topped with olive oil and burrata cheese. We all also got a salad. I got the fennel and citrus salad and it was so refreshingly good! For entrees, we almost all ordered something different, and again, everything was perfect. I ordered the tagliatelli salsiccia and was honestly surprised at how good it was. I was pretty full after the appetizers, so I brought about half of it home. My husband tried it when I got home and thought it was great cold, too. Other dishes ordered were the spaghetti funghi and ricotta gnudi. No one had any complaints. Unfortunately, we didn't have room for dessert, but maybe next time. I've already told a bunch of people they need to check this restaurant out. Who knew Zelieonople on Thursday nights was the place to be? I didn't. This restaurant is housed in an old bank across from the Kaufman House. Thankfully, we had 4:30 reservations. Once we arrived, the restaurant went from empty to full in the blink of an eye. The menu is very light on traditional "Pittsburgh" proteins. Many of the items would have been elevated with the addition of beef, chicken, or shrimp/scallops. Did I mention we arrived during happy hour? Pizzas and drinks were discounted. We started with the fried artichokes. Ate them from stem to leaves. Delicious. The 1/2 portion of the arugula salad was huge. The caprese salad is worthy of its own paragraph. I have never seen it served as a stuffed tomato v. alternating slices of tomato and mozzarella. The pesto was chunky goodness. I could have made a meal on the salad. We both had 4 slice pizzas (happy hour size): a white pizza with kale & mortadella. Four (4) slices were plenty and flavorful. And for dessert ... cannoli and panna cotta. The cannoli were very good. The panna cotta had a pudding consistency with cinnamon flavor. It wasn't something I would order again. I got my eyes on the tiramsu for the next visit. We sat on the mezzanine level and despite this being an old bank and a full restaurant I was surprised that the noise level was more than comfortable. We had a very friendly and efficient waitress so zero complaints about the service! For our meals, we started with the greens and beans which was one of the best versions of this dish that I've ever had. We split a cavatelli pasta dish and the artichoke (white) pizza - both were absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The only downside was the dessert we ordered which was the apple calzone which sounded great but turned out to be incredibly disappointing. The dough was too thick with too little apples and the char was off-putting. It came with a large dollop of Nutella as well that seemed out of place and way too heavy. read more

We got the garlic bread with burrata and meatball appetizers. Those were the star of the show.. next time we come back we might just get 2 orders of meatballs and the garlic bread as our entrée. For dinner my husband got the paccheri polpo which was a short wide noodle with octopus, chorizo and capers. It was an interesting dish but much too salty. I think the capers were a bit overwhelming. The mock tail offerings were fun and we chose a Super Tuscan from the wine list. We started with the meatballs and garlic bread - both tasty, but the garlic bread was more of a flat bread. This was our first time visiting Della Terra, and we loved everything! I ordered the Daylily, which was a super refreshing gin cocktail. My boyfriend ordered the meatball appetizer and I had their soup of the day (spicy roasted red pepper). Both appetizers were flavorful and well presented. For our entrees, I ordered the risotto fra diavola and he ordered the bolognese. My entree was a HUGE portion of risotto, topped with a spicy sauce that included a good portion of smaller shrimp. On top were three jumbo grilled shrimp, and some Parmesan cheese. It was SO flavorful, wasn't too spicy, and I will definitely be looking forward to enjoying those leftovers!! The bolognese was also a good portion, and he said it was very tasty and filling. We had espresso martinis for dessert. Both of us really enjoyed our experience, and will definitely be back!! Terrific food, terrible service. Our family went there tonight to celebrate our daughter's 22nd birthday. The restaurant was not at all busy but despite that the server was slow to take our order and the wait for our food took over 40 minutes. In addition, the server brought us the wrong size salad and overcharged us on two items. When I mentioned the bill discrepancies, the server frowned and never apologized. With a manager's help we got the bill adjusted but the overall service was far below what we expected. Smaller issue but worth mentioning is that the music is surprisingly loud. I was reluctant to post this to Yelp because we like to support local businesses but the final straw was that Della Terra offers no email address on its website to share feedback or submit questions. read more

We had a reservation but I arrived during happy hour and the bar had a TON of space (very unusual, but likely due to a Halloween parade event happening that night) so we decided to stay at the bar for dinner. Dinner: First order, not pictured, was the house red wine on special. It's a blend and it is on tap! Very nice, approachable wine. They also have mini pizzas on special during happy hour so I decided to order the pesto, and let me tell you it was one of the best pizzas I've ever tasted. I am so sad that I didn't get a photo, but we inhaled it. Mortadella, pesto, burrata, pistachio, parm. I was still thinking about it days later (and even now). My partner usually doesn't go for things like that, but also loved it! We did a full sized New Yorker, which never disappoints. That pepperoni is . We also shared the tortellini in brodo, which was very good but I felt it was missing something. Maybe I expected the pasta to be more soft and delicate in the broth . It may just have been that I was so blown away by the pizza. I would order the pasta again, but it just wasn't the star of the night for us. The broth was delicious, everything had good flavor. For dessert we had the cannoli, 2 perfectly sized for sharing. Also, no photo. When we get to chatting and dining, I frequently opt to stay present and then miss the photo op for the food. Oops! Tucked away along the streets of old as you enter into Zelienopole. This restaurant preserved well, what was a former bank that would catch your eye. The ambience, furnishing and decorations are tastefully lavish without too much pomp and circumstance. Yet, you feel you've stepped into an Italian home, that warm and coziness. The food, simple elegance. The chef must love their craft, as every dish is perfect. The menu is not exhaustive and overwhelming, but you'll want to come back again and again to check out every one. The cocktails, they are what you'd expect - rich and flavourful. We hard the "Italian Omakase" and what a surprise - from the fried artichokes, to the pesto based pizza and sweet ending tiramisu! Della Terra has the potential to be a 5 star restaurant , as the food is delicious , the atmosphere really nice and friendly prompt service BUT a few things keep me from loving this place . For starters the menu is super small and secondly they are not flexible in change requests . We simply wanted mushrooms added to a margherita pizza and were told they can't/ won't do it - even though they have mushrooms on a different menu item , so it isn't like they didn't have any in house . Another irritation was my sister-in-law and I asked for a second glass of wine and were told we couldn't order another glass until we fully finished with the first . Makes no sense particularly because we were almost finished with the first . Also their menu descriptions could be clearer . Several my my dining companions didn't know what Pansotti or Paccheri or bull's blood micros were - yes I know we could look it up on the internet or ask the server , but why not just be more descriptive. I also didn't like I had to add my credit card on open table to reserve a table . Had one cocktail and one glass of wine at 44 years old and was cut off from drinking one more beverage on a ladies birthday night. I usually like to go places more than one time before I post a review. Every once in a while, I break my own rule. I will go back there and will definitely update as needed. This place is good, very good actually. Let's start with the pros. Good atmosphere and ambience and they did a nice job remodeling a former bank. Leaving the vault door was a nice touch, although I suspect it was an economic decision more than architectural one. Cool nonetheless. We were there for happy hour and just tried one app (crispy squash) and 2 of the pizzas, all were very good. Also had a few cocktails and one of the house wines, also very good. I highly recommend the Marco Polo, a great winter bourbon cocktail. We walked in around 530 on a Friday night at the place was already pretty full. Always good to see. We didn't have a reservation, therefore could not get a table, but that didn't bother us because we really only wanted some drinks and apps at the bar anyway. We were on a timeframe. There was a slight annoyance at the bar, as there was only one open seat (and 2 of us) and there were two seats that were unoccupied by patrons and only had coats and purses on them. The bartenders wouldn't ask folks to move down or take their stuff off the seats. Seems common sense in business practice to me, so that was a little bit of a rub. But some of the other folks were really nice and made some room for us to squeeze in between them. My other rub was the bill was incorrect (at least in my opinion) and when brought to their attention, it was shrugged off and not corrected. The menu clearly shows all happy hour pizzas are $9. I was told that was a misprint, and they're actually half price for happy hour. Fair enough, prices change, especially with our supply chain shortages and economic conditions. Don't you tell me that when I order rather than when the bill comes? And no apology for the oversight just a matter of fact "the menu is wrong". Again, just a little thing that makes a big difference in my experience. Neither of those things will prevent me from going back and trying some more dishes, perhaps sitting at a table, and getting a fuller experience.
