What a fun place. We don't like to eat late but were forced to find an open place after 10pm on a weeknight. That limits you to bars and other loud obnoxious places that we have grown well away from. Katz's was ridiculously loud but it was fun. They're also open 24/7 - another bad sign (usually) - but again they surprised. Someone spent a great deal of time, effort, and money building a destination spot. Seriously, I was looking for a T-shirt or a coffee mug to buy on my way out to remember the experience. Gigantic menu which is normally an indicator of mediocrity. But in typical deli fashion, they provide a very large variety using staple items dressed in many different ways. So they serve breakfast all day. My wife enjoyed strawberry pancakes. Unlike most breakfast places where they slop the fruit on top, Katz's actually makes you strawberry pancakes. She loved them! Wonderful taste, not heavy. I broke my cardinal rule to never order a Philly cheesesteak outside of it's home base. And true to form it wasn't authentic but it was fantastic. The rolls are never as good as you'll find in Philly but the meal was great, I'd get it again after experimenting some more. I saw a photo in Yelp where someone ditched the bell peppers (really?) and substituted grilled mushrooms (yes!) both were epic upgrades to the menu item. Steak fries were the perfect match. Grabbed a chocolate toasted coconut macaroon on the way out to enjoy back in the hotel. Yep! Excellent choice! Craving another. Katz's is always a yes. They never close and i sure am glad. They have an upstairs and a downstairs with a bakery up front. This is the perfect spot to hit up after some drinks at the bar. Parking is behind the building as well as a parking lot across the street. Make sure to try the fried pickles w/ranch as an appetizer. read more

No affiliation with the Katz's in New York. Downer. The attempts to replicate the New York location's motif is admirable, but not quite familiar. A lot of New York memorabilia. Staff was nice and helpful. They assisted me in ordering something vegan off the menu. I ended up getting fries and a salad, which were good, but I wasn't expecting a full-out vegan menu. I went there to feed my homesick nostalgia fix. Of course, the menu was vegan-lite, but it worked for me. Overall, I wouldn't recommend Katz's if you're vegan, and if you're not vegan, you probably will be disappointed, especially if you're anticipating anything similar to what the original Katz's offers. Back in the days..Katz was the place that I never visited during daytime. My friends and I usually dropped by around 2ish before heading home or sometimes, not. A decade later, I ended up here at lunch because another place that my coworkers and I wanted to go was closed. Ambiance: It was so differently during the day. I even noticed there was booth in the far corner. The place was somehow more quiet during lunch. Who would have thought? Food: I went for the Turkey Pastrami Reuben Deli Special, which came with a complimentary pickle and a side, a potato salad. I didn't care for the potato salad that much, but the Reuben was awesome. It was served hot but the pastrami still got some juice in it. When I bit on the sandwich, all the flavor from the meat and sauerkraut just oozed out. I definitely loved it. The Jalapeño cream cheese bites were good. I wished we had ordered my old favorite, fried pickle. I remembered having so many of those fried pickle in the past. My friends also ordered Strawberry Blintz, of which they were kind enough to share a piece with me. I never had this order at Katz before. This was a good call on their part. It was really good. I was glad they ordered it to cap our lunch off. Speaking of desserts, I also passed on my old favorite, their milkshake, which I remembered was so so good! Service: The seating was prompt and we were able to get a corner table. I was really happy about it. The waiter was nice and efficient except he was slow getting us the check. Our server, April was excellent, she was very attentive and patient (we took forever making up our minds) and was everything you should expect from here. Do not go here. Tried to go in on a Sunday night when it was slow and they told us it was a 15 minute wait. After waiting 30 minutes another group showed up who didn't even know there was a wait, stood outside with us for less than a minute and got seated ahead of us because "they had 3 people and there was a table ready before our 2 person seating." It was obvious that someone got them in because they said "don't worry I got you." When we said something about it they kicked us out because "they are a private establishment and can serve whoever they want." Obviously we didn't know the right people or were the right ethnicity. Guess what, their food isn't close to being good enough to put up with that type of treatment. I've actually order online through door dash from then several times. I visited on Friday March 22 at around 11;30. It was not crowded. My son ordered a Rueben and I ordered the only vegetarian lunch option, a Vegetarian Reuben. When it arrived I was surprised. I really should have talked pictures 4 inches tall, I think they used forms to make it so tall. I asked the waitress how I was supposed to eat it. She had no idea either. I pulled the top bread off to reveal a gloppy grey messy mound. Imagine huge pile of grey saurkraut, on top of avocado slices, but on top of that is a grey puss pink looking sauce on top and dripping all down the sides. I kid you not. It looked like puke on a plate. Not in the least appetizing. Not trying to be harsh, but descriptive. I ate the top toast I had removed, it had melted cheese on it with a tomatoe slice glued to it. I then gave an honest try at eating the gloppy pile with fork and knife. I could not. I have no clue who thought saurkraut covered avocados would taste good, it does not, especially with that sauce. When the waitress asked how the meal was, I pointed to the goopy mound and gave my honest answer, it was gross. Not her fault, but she didn't seem especially surprised either. My son ate about half his, a similar glop, but with meat, no avocado. He said it was okay, but didn't finish it. When an 18 year old 6'2" boy doesn't want to eat his sandwich, something is not right. She did ask if I wanted anything else, but honestly I was afraid to try. No telling what would appear. So I left mine where it lay and ate the side potatoes. read more

They really are open 24/7. Came on Thansgiving day, it wasnt as busy as it usually is. Food is great, my favorite is the patty melt, I always add avocado. We always get the tenders tossed in buffalo as an appetizer. For dessert, we always get the cheesecake milkshake. Service is always Good, no matter how packed they are. Came with the kids and my parents on New Year's eve morning. The kids menu is colorful and visual and with extensive options. My son says the pizza and mac & cheese were really good. The vibe is playful and irreverent and EXTRA. Our server Chante was cheerful and helpful. The other times I've been there the staff and service was outstanding. The portion size are very large so opt for "skinny" for one and "klassic" for two. The Reuben was delicious and the corned beef very flavorful. Really the only real deli in Houston , pastrami is delicious, bagels with Lox terrific , the only issue I have with this deli is the cole slaw. It's German slaw vinegar ewww... I had the "chopped steak" over mashed potatoes and 2 sides: creamed spinach and Mac n Cheese. I could swear the chopped steak is not steak, its a big batch of coarsely ground beef. Been to Katz's twice for takeout. The Klassic Reuben was huge and a little unwieldy to eat (but I guess that's what you want in a traditional NY style deli). The flavor of the corned beef was great and I loved the light vinegary coleslaw on the side. The Corned Beef Hash breakfast was also huge and had a lot of great flavor. Katz's does their has with slices of corned beef instead of chopped like other places. So you end up with a delicious hash full of big slices of corned beef, grilled onions and just a tiny bit of potatoes to hold the hash together. The meal comes with the option of 2 eggs and bread. I opted for 2 poached eggs (cooked perfectly) and an everything bagel with cream cheese, all of which was great. Katz's location tends to not have a lot of parking available but they do have a private lot. However, if you're going there during peak brunch hours on a weekend, parking may be difficult. The ambiance in the restaurant is very inviting. All the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. I will definitely be back. read more

Walked in for a quick take-out. Got a Cornbeef Sandwich with NY chips. All in all the food was pretty good. Pretty standard for the most part. Not exceptional but still pretty tasty. The 2 star deduction is mostly for the noticeably lackluster front service. Although I know times are tough and I don't want to be THAT kind of customer, I was "greeted" by a server/cashier who barely acknowledged me as I entered in the rain. Was starving getting off the plane, and was in the mood for something relatively healthy - that was open late, and near my hotel The lovely Farrah A. took us to Katz's for a quick bite. Katz's' menu is huge. Carrying everything from pasta dishes, to breakfast fare, to what they're known for - deli sandwiches. Despite my urge to go big and just pig out on cinnamon buns and french toast - I went for the fairly "healthy" route of a grilled salmon hero sandwich on french bread. I ordered a side of honey mustard sauce to go with it. Maybe it's because I hadn't eaten anything for hours. Maybe it was the relief of just getting to my destination - safely without losing any of my luggage. But I devoured that sandwich in a matter of 3 minutes. The salmon was delicious. Flavorful. Moist. And big slabs of it too - cradled perfectly between lightly buttered french bread. The honey mustard sauce on the side - complemented it perfectly - slightly tangy and added a nice kick. I adore late night eateries. Especially those that can accommodate healthier cravings and if I had a 24hr spot like this in SF that served up salmon sandwiches as good as what I had here - I'd be very content (was trying to think of something zingy and witty here - but lack of sleep is catching up with me). Ok this place was long overdue for a review update. After reading through the reviews and the recommendations I think I finally ordered the correct items. I had the open face meat loaf sandwich with fries. The sandwich is huge with 2 pieces of meatloaf, covered in cheese and then onions and gravy. Eat it with a fork and knife because it gets messy. The fries are thick cut, seasoned fries, crispy! My gf had the scottish smoked salmon sandwich. DAMN this thing is good. The cream cheese was a good compliment, I could just imagine their bagels with lox would be to die for. We got it the klassic size which is a double decker, the new york would probably just be too big.
