I was however beyond satisfied w/ my meal I had the Maui & substituted my pancakes for Grandma's peanut butter pancakes, fluffy and delicious loaded w/ peanut butter. The pineapple scramble (egg white for me) was refreshingly DELICIOUS, the chicken sausage v tasty. Seriously you can not go wrong w/ this order. Spending a couple days in Carmel with a friend we decided on Katie's place for breakfast our first morning. Since Huckelberry was with us we had to eat on the deck. It was very comfortable with a heat lamp right beside our table. The server was friendly. She took our order and brought our coffee. She followed up to make sure we were happy with our meal. My friend had the country omelette. I had the bay omelette. Both were served with potatoes and toast. My omelette had a plethora of shrimp and avocado. The Monterey Jack cheese oozed from it. There was more than I could finish. The potatoes were lightly seasoned and were very good. We got in before the crowd and had a very relaxing enjoyable breakfast. read more

This is such a cute brunch spot in Carmel. They have a looooot of different eggs benedict options - novia scotia is my favorite (salmon + spinach instead of ham). I also liked their biscuits and gravy - their gravy has chunks of meat in it! We also ordered one of their swedish pancakes and it did not disappoint - it comes with a huge dollop of whipped cream which is super light and tasty, as well as a generous serving of fresh blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries. Katy's place is pricey though! I don't think I've paid over $20 for an eggs benedict, even in San Francisco where the brunch prices are sky high. Keep in mind that this place is cash only, and if you come later on a weekend the wait might be a bit long since this place is so well known in Carmel. I always make sure to stop by this place every time I visit Carmel, it's my favorite brunch by far in the area. read more

This morning we went to the restaurant around 9:45 am place was packed. Waiting time was 5 minutes and sure enough we were called. Outdoor seating was nice. Being from New England I decided to have the lobster, shrimp and crab omelette with avacado. To my surprise this omelette was huge, the first bite I could taste the lobster tail meat followed by the crab then shrimp. Most restaurants can be skimpy but not Katy's it had more the enough ingredients. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone it's worth the wait. read more

I had $40 cash, but it would not cover the dollar and chane over that or a tip. So i had to leave to get cash to pay up. The food was very expensive too. I got 3 eggs that came with 3 thin sausage patties, country potatoes, and rye bread. $19.00. Coffee $6.00, side of bacon $8.00, and a soda water off tap $6.00. Total was over $41 plus tip! We have gone here for over 30 years when we are on the coast. Yes it is crowded, and busy, and sometimes you have to wait for a while. That's because it's pretty darn good. Katy's Place is a Carmel favorite! My husband and I always make it a point to have breakfast here when we spend a weekend in Monterey or Carmel. The service is great and the food is fabulous! Today, we got the mixed-berry brioche French toast, truffle eggs Benedict, a side of biscuits and gravy, and fresh pressed apple juice. Per usual, everything was delicious! The French toast was light and fluffy, the biscuits were crumbled goodness, and the hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict was flavorful and not too thick. A FEW THINGS TO NOTE: *This place always has a wait, so I recommend getting there early on the weekends. *CASH ONLY - it's written on the menus and signs at the entrance. No credit cards or personal checks accepted. But no worries if you don't have cash on hand, there is an ATM right down the street. *It's a bit pricey, but everything in Carmel is. *If you're visiting Carmel for a weekend, I would recommend hiking in at Point Lobos around 8:00 AM, going to breakfast at Katy's after, then walking around and exploring the shops in Carmel. As a local, who has visited this breakfast spot on numerous occasions over many years, I have to say on my most recent visit I can only give this place an average rating of 3 stars. The menu has lots of options and there's tons of breakfast specials which is nice. The breakfast food is yummy and good sized portions, which has remained true throughout the years. Our server was friendly and attentive. Now, the things that have made my rating of Katy's Place lower. The business is outdated in all circumstances. Decor hasn't been changed in the 20 years I've been there, including the same stapled down plastic tablecloths. The prices have skyrocketed, as most egg and breakfast dishes are over $22 each, and simple drip automatic coffee stands at an outrageous $6 each (you are provided refills). The spot is far behind all recent times, as it only allows cash payments. It doesn't accept reservations, and also won't seat you unless your entire party is present, despite there being plenty of open tables. Sadly, Katy's Place has gone downhill over the years, and while their breakfast food still tastes very good, the overall outdated environment/practices and sky high prices, leave this local with plans to not return as there are far too many other great breakfast spots in town. read more

Wonderful visit to this cute little spot! I did feel it was bit pricy but then again you are in the heart of Carmel, so it was totally worth it. They have indoor and outdoor seating (pets allowed). They accept CASH ONLY, so make sure you fill up your wallet. Service was fast, staff were attentive. No mask or social distance mandate right now. They have a vegetarian eggs Benedict option. It's not in the menu, it's on the board on the wall so make sure to ask! If I'm not wrong, I think it was called "Santa Fe style eggs Benedict".... Something like that. As a local, Katy's place has always been my favorite spot. Unforrtunately, I do not plan on returning. Hulda gave terrible custtomer service. I should not be receiving the tab right after being served. I was offered a box as well while beginning breakfast. My children planned on ordering more food, but we decided not to after being treated so poorly. Hulda gave us a terrible experience at Katy's. We felt racism from Hulda and do not feel welcomed back by this server. read more

We have been going to Katy's for years and when we used to rave about Katy's and five starred with everyone, it has certainly lost its luster! Not sure they had the "A Team" on or not this morning or not but we definitely took notice: 1. Not a warm greeting upon arrival (11' ish) - Just the Owner sitting on a stool. 2. Server didn't see us for a while, apologized. 3. The waffle was great but my go-to favorite the corned beef hash was so very disappointing as it was actually "mushy" and not the usual delectable and flavorful dish of old. 4. My wife ordered the Huevos Rancheros which was the definition of boring with no flavor at all just plopped haphazardly on the plate. No sense of thought or creativity. Tortilla was flour/not corn and not even cooked. 5. No offer to refill coffee or water. For the prices Katy's charges, both the food and the service should be exemplary as there many spots about town offering same if not better menu offerings. I breezed right in without waiting on a holiday and the staff even saved my table while I ran to the ATM around the corner (they are cash only). My wife and I had breakfast here in September. Cute place that was just around the block from our hotel, with a shortcut through one of Carmel's many hidden alleyways made it a 5-minute walk. Note that Katy's, like many Carmel breakfast spots, is cash only. Dining was outside due to the pandemic in a nice alley next to the restaurant that was a nice cozy spot. Service was very good, and the food was excellent. My wife had the pancakes and a side of thick-sliced bacon. She's picky about her pancakes and loved these. I had a nice-size but not overwhelming ham and cheese omelet that was very fluffy with a side of crispy home fries. Great meal to start our day of sight-seeing. read more

I can get down with some regular ole diner food every once in a while -- and this place has exactly that: regular ole diner food. What's not regular are the prices. Holy hot damn, the Just Eggs Breakfast (scrambled eggs, toast and potatoes) costs $14. A cup of black coffee costs $4. This is how much both of those items cost at one of the best French restaurants in LA where you get the kind of farm fresh eggs that come out orange when they scramble and coffee that makes your heart sing... This place is not that. It's regular ole mediocre diner food and regular ole mediocre black coffee. Ate here during covid and they are incredibly rigid about covid rules like no outside coffee cups or items (which I'm in support of) but are still taking cash only (which I found funny). They also have a table (which we sat at) right by the front door, at which a constant stream of people were passing by to put their names in (didn't seem particularly safe). *The staff here is incredibly nice. I must say.. they had the BEST eggs benedict I've had in my whole life.. but they charged $6 for house coffee which I think is wildly excessive.. premium or specialty coffee at a cafe down the street or at La Bicyclette is under $6.. Mind you, we were offered coffee before we sat down or were given a menu. Didn't think anything of it because I have never been charged so much for house coffee from drip that probably costs the business not even a dollar to brew. No refills were given either. They are also cash only which you don't know of until you read the small print on the bottom right of the menu. I came here with a friend this morning. in town for our High School reunion. the place we originally intended to go had a huge line so we figured we'd try this place. i had eggs Benedict Maui which was clever and pretty good. Disappointed that they only have regular coffee, so I opted for hot tea. $4 for a tea bag And some hot water. I really ought to know better. I couldn't finish my meal and neither could my friend, which makes it even more dismaying that you can't order a smaller portion and they don't even allow you to do a split plate. Food waste. What a shame. So, yeah, I certainly would never go back here and all of our classmates, plus all the classmates from all of my sibling's classes, as well as all of my mothers classmates will know why. And our server barely spoke to us, checked on us once, and never said hello or goodbye, either. Then to top it all off, they take CASH ONLY. I rarely write negative reviews. But Katy's has really changed. For 17 years this was always our favorite for breakfast. Good consistent food. But our meal last week was not only below par, it was very expensive. Breakfast used to come with a side of 2 slices of toast. This time we got one cold slice. I asked for a substitution of tomatoes instead of eggs, which I never eat. This was always possible, but not this time. She said, "we can leave off the eggs but we will charge for the tomatoes". I said no thanks, and paid for the eggs I don't eat. The potatoes were always very well prepared and a favorite. This time the serving was half as much and dried out. But the real shock was the bill. I have lived on the Monterey Peninsula since 1963, and lived in Carmel for several years. I've heard that Katy's Place rivals my favorite Carmel place (The Little Swiss Cafe). I was in Carmel on a Saturday, so The Little Swiss had a long line., This seemed a good time to give this place a try. The first sign I saw was 'CASH ONLY'. That policy irks me. It makes me think that they don't want to pay the credit card fees and/or it's a great way to hide cash. Hello? Most people pay with Debit or Credit Cards (especially if you're a tourist) and even Apple Pay! Yes, The Little Swiss takes credit cards. The menu has more rules, NO SPLIT CHECKS. Sheesh. I asked our unfriendly server if they do half orders of Eggs Benedict (The Little Swiss does). He shook his head "no". By now, I'm irritated with this place. So I ordered eggs, potatoes and toast fo $18.00. The toast came ice cold so I got to butter it that way. One more ding. Our service was slow and not in the least bit warm or friendly.
