Freshly made pizza im Carmel by the sea. They offer great wine and beer choices. They also have a reasonable sized menu items. They allow walk-ins, but they are very busy so you might have to wait. The hostess will ask for your number, then text you when your table is ready. Its in a very nice neighborhood, so you can walk around and explore. Thats way, your wait time would go quicker. Ordered 4 kinds of pizza and enjoyed them all. The truffle pizza was my favorite, but all were seasoned and baked to perfection. Appetizers, pizzas, duck, beer, dessert and espresso, ALL were great!
Really great food that reminded me of Italy. Made a reservation for two a month or so in advance. They do leave room for walk-ins so you can try getting there before they open. Inside is pretty cozy, and you are fairly close to other people but it wasn't that bad. Service was attentive and they gave a large bottle of still water so you can refill your waters as needed. We opted for the mushroom cap as an appetizer, and got the mushroom truffle pizza as main with the 10 piece gnocchi (you can get 5 pieces as well). The mushrooms were great. Imagine escargots with a garlicky and salty rosemary oil sauce, except with mushrooms. It also came with small pieces of bread that had sesame seeds on it, which went amazing with the oil and buttery goodness. Gnocchi had a good texture to it - definitely softer than I thought it'd be. The sauce was creamy, salty, and cheesy. Again there were three pieces of plainer bread that you can use to get all of the sauce in the pan. The truffle pizza was really good as well. Very obvious truffle flavor mixed with the slightly crispy and umami-ness of the mushrooms. What made the pizza even better was drizzling a bit of the gnocchi cream/sauce along with what I think is their house hot oil that they provided. Finishing off with the panna cotta was perfect after heavier mains. It was light but had a good sweetness. The blueberry was a sort of flattened jelly, which is cool instead of being chunks of blueberry. I was already thinking of returning the next day to try some of their other main dishes as they looked good!
Made reservations for a Sunday brunch for my party of 4 a few days in advance. Ambiance was great and really had the European vibe. We shared the pains assortis, charcuterie board, gnocchis parisiens, and champignons pizza. The assorted bread felt like pretty standard bread but the butter was good. Charcuterie was good, had a good balance of cheese flavors and meats. I liked the seasonal jam and the cheese topped with honey. Gnocchis parisiens was delicious as it was doused in a creamy thick parmesan sauce. Champignons pizza was fantastic. The mushrooms on top were meaty, juicy, and flavorful. The truffle taste was also apparent and yummy. Overall solid meal.
Located on the corner of 7th & Dolores, is La Bicyclette. They asked if we had reservations we didn't but they allowed us to walk in as long as we were out by 12:30. The service is kind of slow. The restaurant is old French/Italian. It was very warm inside the restaurant. The pizza was very blasé. The Gnocchi was probably my best dish I ate at a restaurant in months! Super pillowy and cooked perfectly. The gnocchi just melt in your mouth! The sauce was super rich and so delicious. You could literally drink it. Love that it came with a little bread to dip. I just wish there was even more gnocchi! The mousse was very good, too! Extremely rich, perfectly whipped, chocolate heaven. My Latte seemed weak and watery. *The Gnocchi saved the review from being a 3 star*
One of the most charming restaurants in Carmel by the sea. Michelin awarded. A delicious French bistro. Terrific mushroom appetizer. Gorgeous wine menu. Terrific service-attention to detail. The best steak, linguini and all entrees are delicious. Bon Appetite!
Very nice spot for a date dinner out in Carmel. We walked right up and were seated right away on a Sunday evening in May. Good spot if you're staying in downtown Carmel. Server was friendly and gave us good recommendations. We ended up splitting the fish, and a pizza with honey drizzle on it. Sooooo good. Both were fantastic. Cool vibe inside. Feels like you're in Europe. Glad we came! Would come again.
This is one of those places that reminds you why people plan entire trips around food. We started with the stone fruit salad, which was incredibly fresh and well balanced. The peaches were ripe without being overly sweet, the salty cheese offset the fruit perfectly, and the pine nuts added a great bit of texture. The biggest surprise was the gnocchi. I normally avoid gnocchi because I find it too heavy, but our waitress convinced me to try it and I'm so glad she did. It wasn't made with potatoes, so it was much lighter than expected, and the creamy, cheesy sauce was perfect for dipping the bread into. We also shared a half Margherita and half Salumi pizza. The crust was thin and European-style, with fresh ingredients and plenty of cheese. The Margherita was light and flavorful, while the Salumi had great depth from the salami, red onion, and house-made chili oil. We were told the peppers are roasted in the pizza oven, which gave the oil an amazing smoky flavor. Our waitress was incredible. Even in a full restaurant, she made my family feel special. She seemed genuinely excited about the food, the restaurant, and her job, and that enthusiasm made the experience even better. The atmosphere was also so charming. The room we sat in had little building facades that created an almost optical illusion, making it feel like we were dining on a street in France. It's easy to see why La Bicyclette is included in the Michelin Guide. I'll absolutely be coming back anytime I'm in Carmel.
The restaurant was adorable and the menu was simple. Our server was super kind and attentive and gave us many recommendations for what to try. We started with the gnocchi and mushrooms and I would definitely recommend the gnocchi it was delicious and something new. We did family style and tried the pork, lobster pasta, scallop risotto special and the sausage pizza. Everything was so so delicious and no misses. The pizza was thin and crispy and pasta was al dente and flavorful.
One of our favorite French restaurants in Carmel . It is nicely decorated and great service . I love it that we got tiny dainty room that fit two small takes for 2 and 3 guests . Class silverware , ceramic plates with matching napkins . They are famous for the wood fired pizzas and mushroom caps with hazelnut/ garlic butter . Will keep you posted for more food items .
Finally, after trying to come for the last few years, we were able to get a reservation for lunch at 11. The place was packed. Service was good, atmosphere was nice, and food was not bad. But perhaps for the price we paid, it was not as mind blowing as we expected it to be. The fish curry and the steak were delicious.
Had a wonderful dinner at La Bicyclette. You can tell that the servers and hostesses care about the hospitality and experience you have while dining here. They were very accommodating to my family and the need for a stroller for my baby even though the space was tight. Our server Anna was so kind and attentive to us. The food was spectacular, especially all of the veggie dishes. I hope to come back!
Came here last weekend with a group for a bachelorette trip, and we had such a wonderful experience! The food was exceptional -- the Champignons pizza was absolutely incredible and easily one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. The restaurant itself is so cute, cozy, and intimate, making it the perfect spot for a special dinner. What really made the evening unforgettable, though, was our server, Anna. She was hands down one of the sweetest and most attentive servers I've ever had. Despite our larger group, she was incredibly patient, friendly, and always seemed to anticipate what we needed before we even had to ask. She made everyone feel welcomed, checked on us often without being intrusive, and brought such a warm, positive energy to the table. You can tell she genuinely cares about providing great service. Between the amazing food, charming atmosphere, and Anna's outstanding hospitality, this was easily one of the highlights of our weekend in Carmel. We can't wait to come back!
Cute establishment! Definitely recommend making a reservation before you come especially if you have a big group. I was able to walk in and make a reservation for 2 and wait for about 1 hour. Recommend the pizzas here! It's a thin crust and use that hot chili oil on the pizza! Will come back again with friends and recommend.

My partner and I recently celebrated our anniversary at La Bicyclette, and it was such a wonderful experience. This was my second visit, and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Everything we ordered was delicious. The standout for me was the BBQ oysters--they were absolutely incredible and a must-order. I also loved the gnocchi. It was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and one of my favorite dishes of the meal. The only thing I was curious about was the portion size of the gnocchi. Ours came with only five pieces, but after looking through other guests' photos, I noticed some servings appeared to have 7-10 pieces. I'm not sure if the portions vary by preparation or if the photos were from a different time, but I was curious about the inconsistency. That aside, the food, atmosphere, and service made for a memorable anniversary lunch. I'd happily come back again and would definitely recommend La Bicyclette to anyone visiting Carmel. read more

La Bicyclette is a Michelin Guide spot that's definitely worth checking out while in Carmel by the Sea. Street parking was surprisingly easy with plenty of two-hour parking throughout town. We visited on a weekday and were able to get a table without a reservation, though the wait was about an hour. We started with the stone fruit salad, classic pepperoni pizza, and spaghetti con vongole. The salad was incredibly refreshing. The peaches paired perfectly with the peppery arugula, creating a unique combination that tasted vibrant and fresh. The pepperoni pizza was easily the highlight of the meal. It was one of the best-looking pizzas I've had, with a light, thin crust that stayed soft and airy. It was satisfying without leaving you feeling overly full or weighed down. The spaghetti con vongole was packed with clams, and the sauce leaned creamier than the traditional white wine version. It was a different take, but one I actually enjoyed. The only downside was that a few of the clams had bits of sand, which interrupted an otherwise great dish. Service was a bit inconsistent. I wasn't offered a beverage until I had already finished my salad and finally had to ask. The tables are also very small, so things can feel cramped once all the dishes arrive. Overall, the food easily lives up to the Michelin Guide recognition, especially the pizza. With a few improvements to service and a little more attention to detail with the clams, this would have been an easy five-star experience. read more

A Meal That Felt More Like a Deadline Food was, at best, average. I ordered the Champignons Provençale to start, followed by the Cannelloni Florentine for lunch. The appetizer was overwhelmed with butter--to the point that it masked the mushrooms and herbs that should have been the focus of the dish. The Cannelloni Florentine arrived lukewarm and surprisingly bland. For a restaurant with a Michelin distinction, I expected much more attention to execution, temperature, and flavor. The service was the most disappointing part of the experience. As a solo diner, I was seated immediately next to the kitchen, where staff repeatedly dropped buckets of silverware behind me, creating loud, jarring crashes throughout the meal with seemingly no awareness of how disruptive it was to guests. Throughout the lunch, no one checked on the food or asked how my experience was. Instead, staff seemed focused on clearing plates and repeatedly offered to box my food before I had finished eating. I ordered an appetizer, an entrée, and two separate glasses of wine, yet I still felt rushed from start to finish. I was in and out in less than an hour--not because I wanted to be, but because it felt like the priority was turning the table over as quickly as possible. The only time the service noticeably improved was when it was time to pay the bill. Overall, the experience felt rushed, inattentive, and inconsistent with the standards I'd expect from a Michelin-recognized restaurant. Between the mediocre food, lack of hospitality, disruptive seating, and feeling hurried through the meal, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in Carmel. There are many restaurants in the area where your time and money would be better spent. read more

Consistently solid complete with that classic Carmel charm. We continue to come here annually for our Carmel weekend getaway and always enjoy the fresh seasonal ingredient rotation of European inspired items- pizzas, pastas, and desserts, too. The ambiance is too cute and charming. Make a reservation or be prepared for a long wait on weekends as it's always popular. With inflation, since my last review- dishes are now more in the range of: $14-23 /wine glass; $18-$20/salads, $20-$30/pizzas (truffle pizza is $34); $30s - $40s for pastas and main dishes. $14-$17 for desserts but portions are generous and easy to share across 2-3 persons per dessert. read more

We came here on a Saturday afternoon with no reservation and somehow there was a cancellation and we got seated right away. We saw that the callback list was pretty long and was happy that they sat us. The place is small and cozy. We got a pizza and a salad to share. The pizza was really good! read more
Lived up to the hype! The spinach gnocchi melted in your mouth and was incredibly decadent. The mushroom pizza was the star of the meal for me and I'm not even a big mushroom fan. We finished with the affogato, which was the perfect ending to a fantastic dinner. read more
Quite charming indeed! Cozy and intimate seating. Great service. I got lucky and was able to snag a table without much wait, since I didn't have a reservation. The server made some recommendations for me after I let him know what I was in the mood for and my taste preferences- I'm so indecisive. Honestly the pizza that the folks had next to my table looked incredible. But I knew if I had a whole pizza in front of me , I would absolutely eat the whole thing in one sitting by myself. So I decided to be "good" and not tempt myself. I went with the Gnocchis Parisiens- oh. My. Goodness. Spinach flavors, light, fluffy, comforting, delightful... surrounded by this Parmesan cheese bake/sauce. I practically licked the pan it came in. It was so good. I got the half order which was filling but easily would've smashed a full. By rec of the waiter, I got the glass of Rose Bargemone- g'damn. So good! Paired perfectly with the dish I got. I felt so romantical after this visit LOL this place makes you feel a little whimsy. The waiter also gifted a small chocolate drop to go- I mean I dunno how they made that thing but it was the best chocolate I had all trip!! read more
Rainy day, no reservation, and somehow we stumbled into one of the most delicious meals I've had in a long time. Everything about this place felt special. The food was truly chef's kiss..you can taste the care, quality ingredients, and love that goes into every dish. It's the kind of meal where you take a bite and just look at each other like, "Wow." Every plate felt thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. The cozy atmosphere made it even better, especially on a super rainy day. It honestly felt like the perfect little escape, and now I'm wishing I could eat here every single day. My only wish? Craft cocktails! That would take the experience completely over the top. But even without them, the food absolutely speaks for itself. If you appreciate high-quality food made with serious TLC, this spot is a must-try. I'm already looking forward to going back. read more

We came around 2:45pm for a party of 3, but were told that they were closing the restaurant in 30 min, and we could only be seated if there were any cancellations. We decided to order to go. We ordered the Gnocchis Parisiens (entree) and the Champignons Wood-Oven Fired Pizza. It was ready in about 10 minutes. The pizza was yummy with the nice, soft crust, mushrooms, and the caramelized onion-truffle purée! The spinach gnocchi was so soft and pillowy. Both were so delicious! read more
I've eaten here a few times over the years with old friends, and coming back felt like stepping into a memory I didn't realize I missed. I thought, "Hey, I loved it before... let me try again." And wow--just like that, La Bicyclette reminded me why it's special. The gnocchi was absolutely amazing, rich and comforting in that way only they seem to get right. And the pepperoni pizza? Still as perfect as I remember... crispy, flavorful, and somehow even better than my last visit. What really hit me, though, was how the food brought back those old moments with old friends--but this time, it felt like the start of a new chapter. Same warm vibes, but with a little more appreciation and a lot more gratitude. The service was top-tier. The young lady at the host desk set the tone right away--friendly, polite, and genuinely welcoming. It's small gestures like that that make this spot feel like a place you can always come home to. We attempted what we'd heard was the impossible: a Saturday night walk-in at La Bicyclette. Instead of being turned away, we were warmly offered a table an hour out--and given recommendations for nearby bars while we waited. We chose Terry's at Cypress Inn, just around the corner and, to our surprise, received a text within 30 minutes that our table was ready. We were seated in a slightly larger than closet sized, tiny room that was once their non-smoking section--perfect for us. It felt like a fairy-tale cottage meets teeny tiny clubhouse. Think Snow White's house, but with excellent food and wine. The atmosphere was calm, a welcome contrast to the Saturday night energy outside. Service was personable, professional, and attentive. For food, we tried their mushroom pizza with manchego and truffle (earthy), a full order of gnocchi (pillowy and creamy), and their risotto and prawn appetizer--which eats like a full entrée. Everything was beautifully prepared and satisfying. We enjoyed some nice red wine by the glass, but a pro tip: try the beer--it comes with complimentary farmhouse cheese. From the hospitality, to the ambiance and food, La Bicyclette lived up to their reputation. We enjoyed our experience, and hope to return. read more

Delicious spot! We gotta the Margarita and truffle mushroom pizza and the gnocchi. My favorite was the gnocchi, it came so perfectly soft paired with this delicious creamy sauce. The pizza was also great! The mushroom one was a bit heavy and creamy while the Margarita one was lighter. The wait was also 1 hour during an off time on a weekend. Loved the vibe as soon as we got in. Our server was so genuine and gave us the perfect recommendations. Mushroom caps were delicious as was the bread that came with them. Steak was delicious. Gnocchi was divine! Downsides were that the pommes frites were a little soft and the Basque pizza was just okay, but nothing to write home about. Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert, but overall left happy and full. Can't wait to come back :) read more
Came early, right when they opened because my daughter wanted the bread pudding but their dessert menu has changed since the last time we were here. We had pizzas and dessert and everything was excellent just like our past visits. We especially love their crust. This has become my youngest daughters favorite restaurant that she made sure to take her older siblings. read more

We chose this restaurant because of its Michelin Guide 2025 recognition and were looking forward to a special family dining experience. Unfortunately, our visit was disappointing from the moment we arrived. Despite having a reservation, we observed multiple guests without reservations being seated ahead of us. After waiting, we were eventually assigned a table located directly next to the service area. My wife's chair was partially positioned in the pathway used by staff carrying hot food and drinks. As a parent, I immediately became concerned about the safety of my young son, as servers had to maneuver around our table while carrying hot meals, creating what I felt was an unnecessary risk. While I was discussing these concerns with the staff, my wife was seated and suffered a hard fall. She immediately experienced pain in her wrist and back, which continued throughout our lunch. This place is highly rated and recommended for good reason! Very romantic and cozy space with great service from start to finish. The food was impeccable -- we had the steak and gnocchi with wine. I had a lovely five star dining experience here with my husband for our anniversary. Rumor is that Taylor Swift ate here, but that's not why we tried it out. La Bicyclette showcases very high-quality French cuisine that is not too heavy and hosts guests in a light and airy environment, that is very comfortable and reminiscent of a home kitchen. While I forget the exact names of the dishes, the mushroom pizza was delicious and I would highly recommend it if you are a mushroom fan. Every time I'm in the area, I do everything I can to stop by. Monday night, I showed up by myself with no reservation and they were able to seat me right away, never felt so lucky. I really enjoy how the menu changes with the seasons -- and while I always order the gnocchi because I actually can't help myself -- the carrots were truly a delight. It was a dish made, basically, entirely of carrots but had such a wealth of flavors I almost picked up my plate and licked it. Sweet, sour, savory, a hint of bitterness. Not to mention the variety of textures, smooth puréed carrot, carrots you could sink your teeth into & the crunch of the garnish? We were visiting Carmel-by-the-Sea on a weekend getaway and made a point to stop in to La Bicyclette for dinner. We made reservations way in advance, but were still only able to snag a 5 PM on a Saturday night. Be warned: you need to have a reservation. Service was great, casual. It felt very European. The food was anything but casual. My husband and I split a lot of food, including a pizza, the steak, a salad, and of course, the gnocchi. The pasta was absolutely our favorite. Very hard place to get a reservation for probably due to its surging popularity on instagram and tiktok. I monitored for cancelations on Opentable and was able to get us an early 5pm dinner mid-week. I did enter this place with a healthy bit of skepticism especially with hearing about how a lot of Carmel's food is all pretty expensive but ultimately mediocre in taste. However, my boyfriend and I both agreed that this place was honestly quite good. The big winner is the gnocchi, which is a shocking $30 for only 10 pieces. However, the pieces are quite large and with the bread and sauce that you can use to dip other things (like the pizza) into it, I felt it was worth it. My other favorite from the menu was the Labbe white wine. It was perfectly chilled and as someone who is not normally a white wine fan I really liked it, although that can come down to personal tastes. The margarita pizza was alright, but having it after the wine and gnocchi was a fairly good come down. We finished off with the chocolate mousse, which a bit more pudding like than a mousse should be, but not bad. The chocolate chunks on top gave it enough texture to replace the airiness. Given the choice again however, I would choose a different dessert. I can see how this place can definitely get pricey if everyone gets their own entree, especially the non-pizza items, but for a nice budget date night (~$100 total), our selections were more than good. I honestly wish I could give La Bicyclette six stars. Everything from the food to the service to the ambience was absolutely perfect. When we were first seated, we even got to chat with the owner, who was incredibly welcoming. It was so nice hearing about how much care and thought goes into perfecting their recipes, and you can truly taste that passion in the food. Our waiter was also fantastic and gave us amazing recommendations. We came the day after Carmel had been without power for 4 days, and they still did an incredible job having almost everything back on the menu by Saturday, seriously impressive. The menu may be small, but choosing what to order was tough because everything sounded so good. We started with the Risotto ai gamberi, which had great flavor. Then the Gnocchis Parisiens , the spinach gnocchi was incredible with its rich, creamy sauce. For entrées, we ordered the steak au poivre, cooked perfectly and paired beautifully with the peppercorn cognac sauce, along with fries and garlic aioli. We also had the Lobster all'Amatriciana, the sauce was simple yet packed with amazing flavor. To finish, we shared a classic pepperoni pizza with a thin, perfectly sauced crust, and the chili oil they serve on the side added the perfect final touch. I truly cannot wait to come back here one day. This is a must-visit spot, highly recommend making a reservation! read more

Ate here for lunch a few weeks ago since they didn't have any evening reservations available. We ordered the margarita pizza and Autumn salad. Our server was attentive and the food was brought out promptly. It was delicious and beautifully prepared. Their plates had La Bicyclette engraved on them - I liked that detail. I would like to come back and try some of their other dishes. Definitely call ahead to make a recreation. They have two dining rooms separated by a wall so they can accommodate various groups of people. Good vibes and good food. read more
Was lucky enough to snag a weeknight dinner reservation a few weeks in advance and was so glad I did. My husband ordered a beer to start and I ordered a non alcoholic spritz that was excellent --our waitress gave great suggestions. All beer comes with a few cubes of sharp cheddar sprinkled with celery salt which was a nice touch. For an appetizer we shared the autumn salad which was fresh and balanced. For entrees, we ordered a full size portion of the gnocchi and the squash and speck pizza. Both were delicious! The gnocchi was probably the best I've ever had --light and fluffy in a decadent creamy sauce. The pizza had great flavor and texture and came with an optional chili oil that added a nice kick and flavor. We dipped the pizza crust in the gnocchi sauce for a tasty pairing. Lastly, we ordered the pumpkin pie which was a special dessert offering. I'm not a pumpkin pie person but it was very well made and I still enjoyed it. Overall, I think La Bicyclette is worth the hype since every bite was delicious and not crazy price-wise.
