Been to LB for brunch years ago and had a fabulous time So we stopped in after a business event Mid week for an early dinner. We did not have reservations but were seated immediately in the back room which was not full. We were at a two top in the corner next to the front window. We were not contacted for over 10 minutes. Staff walked by us plenty of times without a glance. We attempted verbal Contact but it fell on deaf ears. I was being treated and my dining partner asked I not address the matter she would. She got up and spoke to the host who eventually walked to the table And said she would get someone. Yet another unreasonable Wait to the point we started to get up to leave when someone finally came over saying the staff was in a meeting and they would take our order now. Not really an apology or how about a glass of wine on the house. Something to acknowledge this mishap on their part. We had over a 2 hr drive ahead of us so we stayed. We ordered and finally were assigned a waitress. I heard our waitress immediately address the table next to us as they sat. She welcome them and had great suggestions about the menu, discussing share plates, beverages etc. Service we did not receive. Once the food came to us very disjointed it was 50/50 in flavor. The beet salad was flavorful. Gnocchi's well over sauced. We paid $12.00 for bread which when we received it the amount seemed on the light side. It was tasty but for the amount not worth it. When I got up I passed several tables of mixed gender with the same order of bread but theirs was overflowing and had considerably more pieces. Not sure since we were a table Of two Women we received considerably Less. We wanted so fully enjoy LB but that was not the case. I totally understand when a mishap occurs but it's what's done about it that can turn the tables. I'm not asking for anything free but at least acknowledge what occurred and provide us with service everyone else received. Their restaurant was very clean, their restroom definitely needed attention. Parking was challenging as There is construction on their street and it's closed but in general that's not unusual For Carmel. We will not be returning which is disappointing to me. read more

Our first stop when we are in Carmel! FOOD: Delicious and fresh! We always get the classic pepperoni pizza and it always hits the spot. This time I also got the lobster pot pie (I forgot the actual name. It was a special and this is how it was described to me)! My oh my, this was a flavor bomb! I enjoyed the flacky topper and the creamy lobster filling. They also made the kids some pasta. They ate that plus our pizza lol. SERVICE: Always kind and friendly. This place is always busy but they still seem to be patient with us and our kids. AMBIANCE: Small but charming. Quintessential Carmel! Overall, will I be back? It was challenging getting through their phone line for reservations as it kept instructing me to call during non-peak hours. I tried 3 different times of the day during the week and finally got thru to make a reservation for a Wednesday at 5pm. The food, service, and ambiance were lovely. We had the winter citrus salad and we loved it. The yuzu vinaigrette with a touch of soy sauce is so yummy. Hubby had a mushroom pizza and I had the halibut special with grilled fennel and spinach. It was my boyfriend's first time so it was especially fun to go with someone who hadn't been before. He fell in love with it immediately. Everything is so good! It deserves all the hype. Appetizers: Qysters du Jour served with cucumber and champagne mignonette. I loved the crunch of the cucumber. Champignons Provençale - 10/10 if you're going to get an appetizer get this! The butter sauce was insane. Mains: Gnocchis Parisiens - good but not my favorite. The gnocchis were really soft almost like mashed potato. Champignons pizza - the pizza was so creamy and yummy. You can't go wrong with anything with mushroom. This was my first time at La Bicyclette for Labor Day 2025. We asked whether there were any walk-ins. The hostess mentioned they typically are fully reserved on holidays but luckily there was a reservation for 2 that had opened up (another party's grace period expired for their reservation) which allowed us to be seated immediately. While we were grateful to be seated right away, were placed by the exit door which was quite a cramped space and was hot (close to be 90 degrees). There was a ceiling fan but no AC on so we were sweating while eating which is why a 4/5 was more appropriate for the rating. Otherwise, the food and service were closer to a 4.7/5. All of the dishes we ordered were high-quality and flavorful. The Soupe du Jour changes seasonally - as of 9/1/25 it was a pork bisque topped with some chili oil. The Tuscan Panzanella salad was refreshing but could have used a few more slices of mozzarella to balance out all the tomatoes. Out of both pizzas, I enjoyed the Fiori di Zucca (squash blossom) one more as it was unique, although the Salumi was good as well. Pizzas come with cheese, chili flakes, and a bottle of chili oil. The chili oil is quite mild and not too spicy, but still stands out on its own once drizzled over the pizza. We took a to-go box for the pizzas and the server offered us small containers for the chili oil as well. La Bicyclette is a great date night spot and also ideal for friend hangouts. I wanted to love La Bicyclette from the moment my wife decided we'd try to get in for our big Saturday night dinner over our just-the-two-of-us Carmel-By-The-Sea getaway weekend away from real life in the Bay Area. But wow they made it so hard to get a reservation, or to even ask for one. She must have called between a half dozen and a dozen times and each time the outgoing message said to call back during off-peak times when the restaurant was less busy. But then every time she'd call back nobody would answer. Finally she called the concierge at the La Playa Hotel for help. They got through but reported back that we could only do dinner on that preferred night before 4 pm or after 9 pm. Nope - that wasn't going to work. So we pivoted to lunch instead at La Bicyclette and found an open spot for dinner somewhere else (as recommended by the same concierge, which did turn out to be excellent, thankfully). For our lunch at La Bicyclette, I started with the special Vegetable Minestrone soup and for my entree I went with the Autumn Salad. I normally don't do salads as an entree but wanted to keep things light given our early-ish dinner reservation happening later somewhere else. The salad was excellent with lots of crunch, cheese and unfamiliar but wonderful fruits and other unexpected goodies. My wife went for the cheese & charcuterie plate which was lovely too. The restaurant was very cute but we were sat right at the exit doorway which was annoying, especially when the windy day brought things inside - including other guests prone to bumping into us. I'm all for jamming as many tables as possible into the restaurant but after fighting so hard for the reservation it was deflating to be crowded into a less desirable table. The presumed namesake bicycle is also displayed over the bathroom in the back of the restaurant. Maybe once again my expectations were too high but I thought it would be an old classic-looking vintage bike but this one looked aged but still like it could have come out of any random boomer's garage. It is cool to name your place after a bike but maybe glam it up a little bit. We liked La Bicyclette and the food was very good but the overall experience was stressful and I'm not sure it was worth all the fuss. read more

We celebrated my daughter's birthday here yesterday and I'm afraid it was a decidedly mixed experience. I'm pretty sure I won't come back. First, this restaurant is very expensive and deserves another dollar sign in its description. $12 for a basket of bread. Appetizers that cost as much as entrees at other restaurants. It's plainly brutal. And though the food was generally good, there were some clear misses. The chicken dish (the most affordable entree) was so deeply over salted it burned all the way down for the two table mates who selected that. My dish - the fish -- was delicious and adventurous, which its pairings of vegetables and curry seasoning. It was quite good. Perhaps the top selection was the Gnocci appetizer - which was fabulous. We did point out the seasoning issue to our waiter and suggested that he might want to alert the chef, since both of them that were delivered to our table were on fire with too much salt. However, he seemed fairly indifferent and didn't really attempt to make it right in any way - something quite unacceptable for a restaurant of that price point. The building the restaurant is in is quite cute and quaint - but they literally had us packed in there like the sardines Monterey was famous for. We had to all get up to allow anyone to pass. They're clearly trying to serve lots of folks, but it really isn't working that well. When time for dessert came around, we all looked at each other and said "Yeah, let's go somewhere else." I doubt we'll come back. At this kind of price point, everything has to be great. Some things were, some weren't - and they really weren't interested in hearing about the things that weren't. So I'm thinking that maybe for your special meal you might consider another restaurant. read more

Delicious dinner. Excellent service. They could not take a reservation with same-day notice, so suggested coming as a walk-in. Since we were dining early, they were able to accommodate us almost immediately as walk-ins. We shared the stuffed mushrooms and salade rouge as appetizers and the rack of lamb and margherita pizza as entrees. Have the chocolate mousse for two! You won't be disappointed. We recently went here for breakfast and it was a very positive experience. Efficient and friendly service. The menu had selections that were hard to decide between. Wood fired oven! Great coffee. And it had a comfortable atmosphere that helped you want to linger and enjoy your food and the person you are with. Can vouch for Andrew Molera (Artichoke, garlic confit, Manchego cheese, goat cheese, piston, pumpkin sees, watercress, saga) and also the Margherita. The salads are imaginative and luscious. The inside is small and you're practically seated neck to neck with the people behind and on the side of you so one star was removed because of that. I felt like people could hear our conversation the whole night lol. Wow, wow, WOW! Quick service. I was a walk-in for two and got seated right away (call me lucky? IDK). We got the Champignons Provençale and the Basque wood-fired pizza. My husband and I came in on a Weds around 5 pm and felt lucky to get a table because the hostess had let us know a couple days before they were fully booked but we didn't have a hard time finding a table. So recommend trying to get a reservation if you can. We weren't too hungry but we just wanted to try it because it smelled amazing. The gnocchi were so good!!!! They were very fluffy and soft and the flavor was amazing. I also loved the bread that it came with. The escargot were good but nothing spectacular. I have tried, I really have, but I do not/cannot understand how this restaurant remains so popular. I went for the second time because I figured I must have missed something the first time I went about a year ago. Not true! And 4.5 stars - come on! It is certainly not where a man with an appetite goes to eat, more for the ladies, I guess. The menu is very limited and the portions are dainty. The restaurant is very highly priced, especially considering the size of the servings. Hostesses are very self-impressed, and the wait staff is only average. I had their Gnocchis Parisiens for starters (these were actually very good, but 9 or 10 of them for $33?) Really! And for my main course, I had the fish special (Catch of the Day). It was halibut (they said), but tasted like one large Gorton's fish stick. Came in a watery, milky, tasteless sauce with 2 small broccoli twigs swimming around in it. Lousy. My partner ordered the fish also, and was equally disappointed. With his small salad beforehand, he asked for a piece or two of bread and was told, "Bread and butter cost $12." Well! Some of the best wood-fire pizzas I've ever had. Service: I visited La Bicylette on a Tuesday for a dinner before sunset as a walk-in, and my party of three did not have to wait long before being seated. We actually got pretty lucky with the time that we came because the host did offer us a table with the condition that we had to leave before someone else's reservation time-- which gave us more than 2 hours to dine-in, which wasn't a problem for us! I suggest calling before hand to make reservations to anyone with a bigger party, or are adamant about checking this place out. As soon as we were seated, our waitress was amazing, always checking in and making sure everything was up to par. The only downside of my experience here was that many of the tables and chairs are pretty cramped into a small space, but not so much so that it was completely uncomfortable. Food: My favorite of the three pizzas would have to be the Margherita pizza, with the Basque being a close second. You can tell they're made fresh with fresh ingredients. LOVED my experience here! My boyfriend and I came for a date and made a reservation for a Saturday at 12 PM. A reservation is highly recommended because seating is not guaranteed. Parking was a bit difficult to find, especially since it was a weekend. However, we got there on time and were able to be seated right away. We look a long look at the menu (there were so many good options) and finally decided on what to order. Insalata Di Polpo - $26 (5/5): I was hesitant at first because octopus salad?? But I am so glad we decided to get this. First of all, the presentation was 10/10. The octopus was so fresh and had a good bite to the tentacle. The celery salad was so flavorful along with the sauce that was beautifully added on top. We finished every last bit! Champignons Pizza - $26 (5/5): Oh my god, soooo delicious. (2) Ambiance - Very cute and cozy interior. There is a large stone oven for pizzas. Feels like you've been transported out of California. We had breakfast/brunch on our last visit so I brought back my family for the gnocchi which everyone loved in the reviews. We did not have reservations at 11:15am but they sat us and let us know we had to be out by 12:30. It's a small place and there were customers but a few empty tables as we left. We ordered the large Gnocchi Parisiens. They are super soft and smooth, no chunks of potato bits and it was not mushy, over cooked. It was served baked in a Parmesan Cream sauce. It is super rich and I'm glad we shared this dish. It was nice it came with two slices of bread to dip in the sauce. We had the Steak Monaco which was served with a peppercorn cognac sauce. The filet mignon was very tender. We ordered it medium rare. It was good. This is my son's signature dish and it wasn't as peppery and the cognac wasn't as strong as his, but this was still a good dish with a nice presentation, with the potato hash, sautéed spinach, wild mushrooms, and melted Gorgonzola dolce. It was more creative with more flavors added. The basque pizza was very interesting and different. The chew on the crust was good. The peppery sauce, onions, sausage, and manchego, made it very different from other pizzas and of course it was baked in a pizza oven. Occasionally, you want a pizza with more pizzazz! The torta Veneziana is great if you like pistachio gelato and mixed berry sauce. I love pot de chocolate and chocolate mousse. This was pot de mousse au chocolate. It's close to the same, the mousse was very smooth and the bits of chocolate was delish. We're paying for ambiance. I had these French chairs in my kitchen years ago. La Bicyclette is a nice place for brunch or lunch. The menu changes so I would make sure something sounds appealing first. Great food, everything else felt like a social experiment. After an afternoon at the beach, my two friends and I waited in line around 4:30 to ask how long the wait was. The host didn't respond and walked away to begin clearing a table. About 5 minutes later someone else approached us to tell us the table is ready. We asked for five minutes to run to our car and change clothes. The answer was a firm no and the next table wouldn't be available for two hours. So we sat down in swim trunks and flip flops. We are three guys in our late 20's. There is exactly one bathroom for one person at a time. There is a consistent 3-5 people in line which is placed in the same path servers use to walk back and forth from the kitchen. The sink produces water at roughly the speed of a dripping cave stalactite so washing your hands takes longer than the actual bathroom visit. The door knob is one of those round knobs everyone has to fully grasp and twist meaning the entire restaurant shares the same communal germ handshake. Our sever brought water and menus with the warmth of someone delivering a parking ticket. At that point, two of us were ready to leave. I feel like this place was overrated? They are on the Michelin guide. Our server explained they serve French and Italian food. Reservations are highly recommended. I was able to do a walk-in, but it was a 90-minute wait. -Special of the day: risotto. This was ok. -Champignon pizza: lots of mushroom toppings, more than I expected. The bottom of the pizza was too hard, almost like a cracker. -half order of spinach gnocchi: I enjoyed the cheesy creamy sauce very much!! I dipped the pizza crust into it. Half order only comes with 5 gnocchis. The food leaves you wanting more, in the words of my friend May. Parking - free 2-hour street parking around this area. Good luck. My friend and I were looking for some great food at a place that wasn't too pretentious, as we were coming from a day of hiking. This is an upscale restaurant with a casual vibe. You can see the woodfired oven from your table, but they have some gourmet items on their menu, and my friend and I did both. We ordered the special appetizer of the day, which was deep fried local chanterelle mushrooms in a harissa sauce and then one of their pizzas with assorted fresh mushrooms with a caramelized onion truffle puree. My friend liked the appetizer, but I wasn't sold on it; however, the pizza was delicious. I would definitely come back for that alone. We also ordered the chocolate mousse dessert, and for me it was too rich, although we brought it to go and added fresh strawberries with it later which helped cut the richness. Service was on point from being seated to the end of our meal. I would definitely recommend this spot if in Carmel. read more

I honestly wish I could give La Bicyclette six stars. Everything from the food to the service to the ambience was absolutely perfect. When we were first seated, we even got to chat with the owner, who was incredibly welcoming. It was so nice hearing about how much care and thought goes into perfecting their recipes, and you can truly taste that passion in the food. Our waiter was also fantastic and gave us amazing recommendations. We came the day after Carmel had been without power for 4 days, and they still did an incredible job having almost everything back on the menu by Saturday, seriously impressive. The menu may be small, but choosing what to order was tough because everything sounded so good. We started with the Risotto ai gamberi, which had great flavor. Then the Gnocchis Parisiens , the spinach gnocchi was incredible with its rich, creamy sauce. For entrées, we ordered the steak au poivre, cooked perfectly and paired beautifully with the peppercorn cognac sauce, along with fries and garlic aioli. We also had the Lobster all'Amatriciana, the sauce was simple yet packed with amazing flavor. To finish, we shared a classic pepperoni pizza with a thin, perfectly sauced crust, and the chili oil they serve on the side added the perfect final touch.
