Beautiful space! Lots of local vendors along the wall and I enjoy their drinks a lot. My fav is the banana bread bar. The AC is on, music is playing, and I feel welcomed to sit and stay.

Cake with butterfly decorations

Thank you so much for the amazing cake you made for my birthday!! My husband must have commented how delicious the frosting was about a half dozen times while eating his slice! The chocolate cake with vanilla frosting was perfect and the simple decorations helped make the cake beautiful. Thank you!

Cute mother daughter bakery with cookies, cupcakes, banana breads, cakes and other goodies. So friendly! They helped me decide what the favorites are, which are many! We settled on 2 types of banana bread that was amazing!!! Would definitely get again! Comfortable seating and cute deco inside the bakery! Very nice!

Decided to give their macarons a try since my cousins said I should try it since they've gotten them during this year + last year's MIH and I can understand why. I will admit their macarons are a bit on the sweeter side but for me it isn't to the point where my teeth hurt so I was super happy about that. My absolute favorites from my box were the fruity pebbles, ube, oreo, & birthday cake because of how spot on they were flavor wise although for me the ube, oreo, & lilikoi flavors were a bit faint. For me the salted caramel was my least favorite but I think it's mostly because I've never tried actual salted caramel before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Despite this I'm hoping that next year I'll be able to try their cookie butter macaron since my cousins said that it was good but they were sold out of it by Saturday night when I went. As for the service I'm pretty sure it was one of the owner's daughters & her mom that I interacted with and they were so nice so definitely hope to see them again next year!

Cute inviting Island atmosphere with perfectly baked sweet treats. I've stopped by 3 times so far and they have yet to disappoint me. I have tried a few of their selections and my favorites are the Lilikoi Cheesecake, Lemon and Butter Bars. If you are a fan of Lilikoi Cheesecake you need to try 808 Sweet Shacks version. Different than most that I have tried in a good way. The ratio of Cheesecake to graham cracker crust is perfect and Lilikoi was not too sweet or tart. I also love that the Lilikoi wasn't just a glaze added after. Consistency more of a gelatin. My favorite by far is the Lemon Bars. So so good. Tart lemon filling with the perfect I'm going to guess Shortbread crust with a little sprinkle of confectioners sugar to cut the tartness. Love it. Long story short, if you're in Hilo give this place a try. Fresh baked goodies made with the freshest local ingredients at a good price. Down town on Hilo Bay in the old S Hata building right past Cafe Pesto. I'm glad I did.

My boyfriend and I both got the regular chicken katsu plate. He asked for no rice, but instead all mac salad, he can't get enough of that! Also, since they aren't making Korean chicken katsu, you now have to order the regular and ask for Korean sauce on the side (sadly there is never enough sauce...ever!) and that was a 57 cents or 60 cents extra. I did notice that most of the right side of the menu, above the register, was whited out that's a shame, since I've always known them for the huge selection of different types of dishes. We also made sure to let the cashier know we would like to have our complimentary miso soups with our regular plate lunches (don't miss out! It is free after all). The food came quickly and was what you would expect from Blane's. Could be better, but tastes ok, but you'll eat it anyways. We were also cold and tired from fishing at the end of Makuu that day, so the meal was hot and we were hungry. So, if you're looking for a big portion at a relatively decent price there head to Blane's! There is still a big selection waiting!

We also tried a mix of their other flavors, and every single bite was incredibly soft and melt-in-your-mouth fresh. You can tell how much love and tradition goes into handcrafting every piece. Pro tip: Call ahead to pre-order if you can, as the line goes out the door and their popular items sell out fast! Absolutely worth the hype and a true Big Island gem.

The skin is the perfect thickness to not break and encapsulates the fillings to not spill out whether that be red bean, whole fresh strawberries, or brownies. The mochi is super fresh and bouncy. The texture bounces back when you bite into it. Every single mochi flavor was delicious. The lilikoi had a slight tartness from the passion fruit but was still plenty sweet from the mochi itself. The butterfly mochi was beautiful. It had red bean and a sweet crunch bar in the middle. Very tasty. Any of the fresh fruit mochis are a win as well. The mochis are whole fresh fruits (e.g. strawberries, grapes) encapsulated by mochi skin. It sounds weird but super delicious. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the mochi flavors. They are all delicious. A fan favorite in my party was the brownie (the pink one in the photo). Pro tip, you can order ahead over the phone instead of waiting in a line. Host just left without an introduction to the support staff and has a lackluster approach to sharing details of each item on the menu. We understand the chefs mission and want to support this vision. Unfortunately; not sure if the menu warrants a second visit. Hawaii has lots of beautiful sustainable food resources that are unconventional. I will caution the use of wild deer meat for carpaccio. There is a concern to cook game meat before eating it. Venison can carry pathogens that cause brucellosis, campylobacteriosis, and listeriosis, and freezing, drying, pickling, and smoking are ineffective at killing these bacteria.

Each dish with a story behind it as so magically described by Robert, our host for the evening (and also found on their website). Highlights in food for me were the local breadfruit appetizer duo made into tostone and hummus and garnished with green big island plums dressed as olives, also the salad created out of ho'i'o, pickled hapu'u hearts, and kimpira takenoko... so very creative creating an ahh or an ohhh in every bite. Wait a second, that big island kanpachi prepared two different ways, kauai shrimp croquettes in the most delicious lemongrass red curry brown butter reduction, the big island lamb served 3 different ways...tantalizing the taste buds. All so very memorable. Not to be outdone, a dark chocolate tart with whipped lemon chevre dessert finished the evening. No liquor sold here, you are welcome to bring your own with a modest $20/bottle charge. If there were only one suggestion it would be to finish off dessert with a nice french pressed cup of Kona or Hualalai or Ka'u coffee or cup of Big Island mamaki tea. Then I would know I was in heaven on earth. Bravo Chef Brian, former Chef of the Four Seasons Hualala'iand Instructor at Hawaii Community College Culinary School, and recent James Beard nominee. Thank you for your innovative creations while educating us about the beauty of Hawai'i Cuisine. Do I recommend? I recommend staying at the Whitehaven property (they also have cabins and rooms to rent) so that you can dine here every single night of your Hilo stay!
