Went to the Orchidland location, I rarely go there because I live in Hilo. Service was SUPERB. The cashier was super sweet, attentive and it really seemed like she actually cared about providing excellent customer service. Definitely not something you normally see nowadays with this younger generation. Either they trained her well or she was raised with amazing parents, or maybe it's just a combination of both. The food was exactly as I expected from Blanes. I had the hamburger steak, not the greatest, but edible. I love their Strawberry slush floats and their fries, so it was a win for me! First time to blains, the place is clean food smells good I ordered a Bacon cheeseburger hamburger, chili and cheese, and a roast pork sandwich for later. They have such a wide menu it would take a while to get through half of it. But I chose some things that I usually order. The people are so nice and friendly the food is OK but I would come back just because it's a pleasant place to go to. Workers here aren't friendly and wait times were longer than average. I questioned their mahi sandwich since it sure didn't taste like mahi mahi on more than one occasion even though their cook stated it was. What other restaurant uses ketchup for their Chicken katsu? Slush float is very expensive for what you get. I think the consistent bad reviews for this business is due to the lack of oversight or the lack of any management. read more

First and LAST visit. Growing up in Hilo, I had always heard good things about this unassuming family-oriented drive in. I was back for the weekend and stopped in for a late lunch. It was the worst experience my family had all weekend! Overpriced. Three small burgers with fries, a mini Korean Pack, chili dog and two drinks ran me $51.71. Slow Service. There wasn't a long line, but it took over 20 minutes to get our order. "Manini" serving size. The burgers were small and the teri burger was absolutely dry and tasteless. AND my fried onion burger was served without any burger! I had to SHOW them the empty bun in order to get a replacement - which took another 10 minutes. It came with inedible onions (the yellow hard part that's normally thrown away). Pretty sure they gave a "sneezer" since I complained. Rude. I never even got a "sorry" for the mishap. Everyone there was rude and couldn't care less about the customers. I would not normally say this, but I hope that this place closes down and maybe something else can take it's place. Ive been going to Blanes for as long as I could remember. However today was the worst service i ever got. The girls behind the counter were rude and needs to learn good customer service. Their attitude was "moke" and shouldnt be used towards any customer or human in general. They also got my order wrong. Ordered 5 slush floats. 3 came with icecream and 2 did not. I had a super long day and stuck in Keauu so blanes it is! They had a special on the boneless Korean chicken plate that comes with rice and Mac salad so we decided to order 4 plates.... Bad choice! I had waited an hour for a single plain teri burger, while other customers who ordered after me got their food much sooner than I. When I had finally received my burger it had mayonnaise and lettuce on it. No big deal even though im allergic to certain ingredients in mayonnaise. So I gave it back asking for another only for them to simply take the lettuce off and wipe the mayo off my bun givinf me a soggy burger that could put me in the hospital. Walked in for first time ever to a Blane's on the island. First impression was dirty floor mats and big inside but empty of patrons around lunchtime on weekday. Noticed reader boards of the hefty menu. Everything from Plate lunches, sandwiches, burgers, bento boxes breakfast, ice creams, etc. I thought this was a Burger place! Hubby got cheeseburger plate ( came w/fries and drink) for about 7 bucks. He asked for extra crispy fries and tarter sauce. I ordered a plate lunch of fried shrimp w/teriyaki that included choice of salad and rice or fries for 9 bucks. I opted for fries and Mac salad. Our meals came out fairly quickly. First seeing fries were still albino in color, hot and fairly crisp but not as requested. Burger small in diameter like a jr. burger would be at fast food chain but did taste fairly good and had the fresh fixings on it, good tarter. My meal presentation was a bit disappointing too, 4 shrimp, small amount of teriyaki (assumed it was chicken but beef) , rice fine of course but pitiful bland Mac salad,,, pasta and mayo w/couple shreds of carrot. Shrimp although frozen pre-batter style but sweet and tasty, beef actually tender and flavorful. So only gripe would say small portion and mac salad I would never order again . You get what you pay for. Prices aren't too terrible. The atmosphere isn't really there, most take their meals to go I've noticed. We opted to stay in and eat. My boyfriend and I both got the regular chicken katsu plate. He asked for no rice, but instead all mac salad, he can't get enough of that! Also, since they aren't making Korean chicken katsu, you now have to order the regular and ask for Korean sauce on the side (sadly there is never enough sauce...ever!) and that was a 57 cents or 60 cents extra. I did notice that most of the right side of the menu, above the register, was whited out that's a shame, since I've always known them for the huge selection of different types of dishes. We also made sure to let the cashier know we would like to have our complimentary miso soups with our regular plate lunches (don't miss out! It is free after all). The food came quickly and was what you would expect from Blane's. Could be better, but tastes ok, but you'll eat it anyways. We were also cold and tired from fishing at the end of Makuu that day, so the meal was hot and we were hungry. I agree that you get what you pay for. This Blane's does live up to the industrial location. Boneless Korean chicken was the worst I've had. It was soggy and resembled chicken that had been reheated in the microwave and dipped in Korean shoyu/sugar sauce. Loco moco for my son was flooded in gravy. Daughter's gravy burger fell apart. Not a fan of this place. Although the service gals are very nice the place is disgusting. There were flies on the window where I sat to eat and the manager was extremely rude. This place is freezing and I felt like I was in a hospital not a drive inn. The food was alright but nothing exciting and definitely not the feeling of home cooked goodness. They recently took off the menu the only thing that I enjoyed which was the Mix #3 where I can choose three different meats. I've only eaten there three times and won't go back. The only thing good about this place is the slush. I use to pay the 5 bucks to have a slush float but now since the manager only puts one scoop of ice cream in the float isnt not even worth it. I paid 5 bucks for a slush float with ice cream the size of a golf ball and they call that a slush. The floor is ALWAYS DIRTY and never seems clean. I came here late this afternoon too have a family dinner with my two daughters and grandson thinking this pace would be affordable and decent for us 4.
