When I'm in Hilo, I always have to get Aloha Mondays. I love their rotating menu, so I know I can always try something different that's gonna taste great. Having pictures on their Instagram definitely helps me decide what I want to order. I got the Kulana seared ahi with soba noodles, wakame, namasu, and bok choy. The ahi was super fresh. I love the pickled vegetables that it came with. I also got the lilikoi cheesecake. Their desserts are always really good. This had a lot of lilikoi flavor! Their online ordering system is great, and our order is always ready for pickup when we arrive.

Really don't get the hype around this place. Expensive and did not taste good. We came on a Wed afternoon around 2 and it wasn't busy at all. Food came out in about 15 min. It seems like a lot of people order for pickup as a couple parties came while we were waiting to pick up their food. We got the lamb kabob, tofu banh mi and the fish and chips. Lamb kabob: flavor of the kabob was good but the rice it came with was pretty bad. Very dry and tasted like it had been made way earlier. You could taste the rosemary though. The tomato salad it came with was mediocre. Tofu banh mi: the bread was BAD. so crumbly and dry and didn't have any flavor. The whole sandwich eats so dry that you need to douse it in the sweet chili aioli it came with. The tofu was just plain and needed some seasoning on it but the coconut crust was good. Mahi mahi Fish and chips: the kimchi home fries were just potato wedges with a tiny bit of kimchi on it and a thin layer of cheese that stuck together. The fish had nice breading and flavor was good.

Culinary delights with a take out vibe... I've ordered from here a couple different times and each time it was great. They have a menu that changes every week so be sure to follow their instagram for the specials of the week. Some of our favorite plates so far are the coffee strip loin, & cheeseburger pizza! You can order ahead or walk up. It's takeout only and the service is always outstanding.

My favorite meal in Hilo was takeout spot Aloha Mondays. Although most look forward to Aloha Friday's as the end of the work week, for Chef Kanoa Miura, Mondays was the day off when he was starting off. Now a full-service caterer, he is sharing his innovative weekly menus with fresh seasonal ingredients for takeout lunch and dinner Tuesday-Fridays with the menu for the week dropping each Tuesday. I preordered Tuesday for Friday pickup as my heart was set on that Dynamite Broiled Salmon with Shitake and Edamame Risotto that lasted me two meals. Can't say the same about the Wet Burrito that was devoured in one sitting. Must have been good!

Amazing flavors on the Big Island A couple months ago doing research, I came across Aloha Mondays. It's a catering company that also offers lunch and dinner takeout with a menu that changes weekly using locally-grown ingredients. On the big island last week we included a stop there in our plans, and boy are we glad we did! We got these two dishes and shared them, amazing! Top of the photo is Kulana Steak Sandwich - made with Mushrooms & Melted Swiss Cheese, Sautéed Bell Peppers & Onion. Does purple things are BBQ 'Uala Chips. At the bottom is their Shredded Chicken Wet Burrito - served with Chipotle Enchilada Sauce, Rice, Beans & Cheese and includes sides of Pineapple Pico de Gallo & Cilantro-Scallion Sour Cream If the Big Island (Hawaii) is in your travel plans, I highly recommend getting on their mailing list - and plan a meal (or more) for take-out there. If it's nice weather, we found great picnic tables at Queen Likiokalani Gardens on Hilo Bay.

Hey hey Adventurers! We stopped by this cute takeout spot for the days specials and some pizza. Everything was delicious--especially the pasta special. The shrimp were well done and Cajun style it was so good. The pizza needed to be cooked a bit more though. I definitely recommend if you're checking out coconut island and Honoli'i Beach Park. There's a 711 across the street for all your needs except the bathroom. Either way check this spot out!

Hilo has some amazing food finds, we found this place that does only take out and limited hours, we were able to place a order 45 min before they closed and had our order ready. The take out was like gourmet food in take out box, the portions were large, we didn't finish anything and had left overs for the next day. Highly suggest to share a plate if you are a medium size eater. They take out rotates weekly so each week is something different. We ordered the smoked pork pizza, meatload and seared ahi soba with lilikoi tiramisu. Loved all of it accept the mashed potato with some cheese that had a bit, the tiramisu was interesting, but not a wow factor. Since we had a way to get to our air bnb they seperated our hot and cold items for us, such great service. Definitely going back.

Shrimp Noodle Salad is healthy and delicious!

Aloha Mondays never disappoints -- great quality and tasty food. Quick service with a smile!

Found this spot for lunch - you just order and take it to-go. For three people, we shared the seafood paella and the guava BBQ baby back ribs. Food was okay, and they said it would be a 20 minute wait but it ended up being closer to 40. 40 would've been find if we were told that. It's on the corner so there is easy street parking on the street.

    Ahi Katsu
    Kristin ..

Unfortunately this was one of our least favorite restaurants while visiting Hilo. The reviews were good and I found recommendations for this place all over. Maybe it was just a bad day but I can't see myself going out of my way to visit it again. The Katsu was overcooked and dry and the sides were bland.

What a gem! Only take out, but fantastic flavors and great sides with tonkatsu and steak. Quality cooking and thought put into each dish. Big portions at a reasonable price. Highly recommend this spot!

I recently contacted Dean Shigeoka of AJ and Sons Catering to cater a friend's destination wedding,…read moreand we received excellent service and excellent food! With only about three weeks notice, Dean was able to put together a great menu and cater a small wedding on the Hamakua Coast. He worked with me to decide a menu based on our budget and tastes. For $30 per person we got: - Appetizers (all three as a trio): stuffed Hamakua mushroom, Porchetta on bruschetta, Hamakua tomato jam with puma goat cheese on crostini - Salad: farmers market salad with lilikoi dressing - Main: local fish (market choice), sautéed, served with porcini risotto and farmer market veg - Vegan: vegan yellow curry and jasmine rice - Dessert: Fruit tart, incorporating local coconut, lilikoi, and pineapple. All of the food was AMAZING! My favorites were the vegan yellow curry, lilikoi dressing, and Hamakua tomato jam. I would order EVERYTHING again. Dean communicated well with me via an in-person meeting, email, and phone on narrowing down a menu, making food decisions, and finalizing plans. He and Audrey (mom and co-owner) arrived early to prep and setup a buffet line, cleared plates once people were finished, and cleaned up. I could not have asked for better food or better service. I highly recommend AJ and Sons Catering. They do any size party, though there is a $100 charge for parties smaller than 25, which makes total sense to make the event cost effective for them. Most caterers won't even consider doing small parties. I might even contact AJ and Sons Catering for future parties instead of going to a restaurant!

The food and venue were both incredible. Their team kept us on track throughout the night and acted as pseudo- day of planners. They provided advice and answered all questions we had to help us create the perfect experience for us for our intimate wedding. We appreciated that everything could be handled in house by the HeartBeet/Pu'uwai team. They handled the bartending, cake cutting, servers, cleanup, and joined in some of the dancing! Plus, the food was INCREDIBLE. We had two kids, under 10, who can be picky, but they ate everything on offer! A true testament to delicious options that were curated for our event. We opted for family style, for our small group, and an extra protein because we couldn't decide on just one! The family style serving option helped us all feel at home, we loved it. Pu'uwai Gardens held a beautiful backdrop for the evening, including the covered area for eating and dancing, that included cute lighting, and the build in covered bar- stunning.
