    Clam chowder
    Casey W.

The adobo fried rice? Delicious but I would advise against ordering clam chowder to go, which is a special they offer. They package it in a takeout container like this which proceeded to spill over in the paper bag onto my plate lunch. Then I was given a fork to eat it instead of a spoon. I ended up dumping it because of the mess that it made. I walked in and told them that it spilled and I needed napkins to clean up my plate, but there was no offer to remedy what had happened.

I absolutely LOVE this place. There is ample parking, it was easy to find, and the service is top notch!! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and was able to choose where we wanted to sit. The staff came and brought out 2 large cups of ice water and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We both ordered coffee and it came in giant mugs with free refills. Naialyn was our server and she greeted us and was hospitable. We placed our orders and the food came out fairly quickly. We started with Walk Thru The Country consisting of Banana's Foster French toast which was moist and sweet but not overly sweet, topped with bananas and fresh whipped cream. Strawberry Waffle which was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, topped with strawberry compote and fresh whipped cream. And Lilikoi Pancakes which were fluffy however I could not taste the Lilikoi flavor. Meat Lovers Scrambler was brought out with Da Bruddahs Breakfast. Both offered the perfect portion where the eggs were made perfectly keeping the eggs fluffy, breakfast potatoes cooked well and not overcooked, biscuits tasted homemade, and the English muffin was crisp on top, I absolutely loved that. I added butter and grape jelly and it was a treat. They had a live performer, Tupahu, who played mellow but fun music. That just added to the ambiance making is feel like we were part of their ohana. I can't wait to return to Hilo to dine here again.

The biscuits are a must! The lilikoi drizzle on top of the biscuits is made in house. Definitely stop by and bring your appetite. *side note: I thought it was really cute how the waitresses wore cowboy boots as part of their uniform.

I would have given a 4 if fried rice was average. Ordered the adobo fried rice. The pork was great, a bit fatty (good) and almost melt in your mouth texture. Sunny side up eggs were also good. But it was a fried rice. I only expected the average fried rice and would have given it a 4. But the rice doesn't even felt like fried, it was wet (but not oily like duck fried rice), and kind of soured, weird texture and taste. Maybe it is just Filipino/islander fried rice? Otherwise good prices.

The food was excellent and the service was prompt and friendly. I had the loco moco and my wife had the counter fried steak and a side of chocolate chip pancakes. The restaurant is tucked away in a little shopping mall between Foodland and the Ace Hardware. It's a little out of the way but totally worth a stop if your are hungry. The only complaint I had was that the food was too good, the portions too large, and now my belly is too full. Love it and next time we are here we will definitely be stopping in again.

Loco moco w/country gravy (yum) make sure to get it with fried rice for better experience.

Its so simple coming here. We didnt even check what time they were operating, just showed up. Every time we've come, the expectation never fails. We got some great countryside food. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner here before too and was very happy. The environment is comfortable and open air no ac. They have ceiling fans that keep you cool. Would come back again.

Nice location in the middle of town next to Foodland. Open floor plan lots of tables in space. Service was quick and cheerful. Menu has a variety of classic breakfast and Hawaiian style. Food was average. Enjoyed the country potatoes and veggie omelette. The biscuits and gravy seemed a bit store-bought. More of a brown gravy than a white breakfast gravy. And small portion. They charge a 3% if using a credit card. I feel you could find a better place. But if you're looking for something on the way, and you wanna sit down with quick service, this place is all right.

This place is located on the Big Island in Kea'au at 16-586 Old Volcano Road. Their original location is in Waianae on Oahu. There is plenty of parking and the food is awesome. I had the Da Braddahz Breakfast and I left full AAAAAAND satisfied. Check them out next time you're heading to the Volcano National Park. Happy eating and Aloooooooooha.

I had the best pork adobo fried rice in a very long time--more vinegar flavor than others but that's how I like it.

It's close, there's always parking, and it's got that laid-back, local energy where you can laugh loud and no one's going to shoot you a look. It does get loud inside, but in that kind of way that makes it feel like everybody's having a good time, not like you're in a cafeteria. Just don't expect a quiet dinner conversation, unless you're reading lips. The service? Always sweet, always kind. Lily (I think that's the correct spelling!) has taken care of us more than once and she's a gem... warm, attentive, and easy to chat with. She's the kind of person who remembers what you ordered last time and tells you honestly what's good. As for the food... Bacon Blue Burger: My husband had this last time and it was yum. Juicy, flavorful, hits all the right rich notes without being greasy. That one's a solid order. Ribs: The barbecue sauce was really good... but the ribs themselves were dry and overdone. Not terrible, but not what I'd call a win either. If they could just dial in the texture, that sauce would carry it home. Kalbi Short Ribs: Best thing on the menu so far. Tender, rich, and full of flavor. Get those. Mashed Potatoes: "All mash" is the move. They're creamy and comforting... total comfort food. Hamburger Steak: Another standout. Probably one of the best in the area. Classic done right. Thai Chicken Pasta: Watch out... it's got some serious heat! Spicy, but good. Not for the faint of tongue, but worth it if you're into that kind of kick. Lilikoi Fizz: Really tasty but heavy on the lilikoi. If they eased up and added a little more club soda, it would be more balanced. Desserts: * Lava Cake was good... warm and classic. * Chocolate Decadent Cake was just okay. It comes fridge-cold (probably so it doesn't melt), but I feel like if they let it sit out for ten minutes before serving, it would be way better. * Brownie Sundae was yum, according to my husband... and I trust his dessert radar. All in all, Kaleo's is the kind of place you root for. You want them to keep getting better, and they mostly are. The hits are worth coming back for, and even the misses aren't deal-breakers. We'll be back, and we're excited to keep trying more of the menu.

My boyfriend and I had finished a few small hikes at Hawaii Volcano National Park and decided to stop here for a late lunch before heading back towards the Kona side. We found that the restaurant was poorly ventilated as it was hot and the doors were just kept open, and the wait for the food was a long time. There were a few other people before us who had been waiting for their food as well, and by the time it was our turn it was already 45 minutes to 1 hour. The Loco Moco was not what I had expected, the hamburger patties were dry and there wasn't anything that stood out flavor-wise. The macaroni salad was okay, but we both agreed that L&L tasted better. We also got a spam musubi, but it did not taste as good as other musubis, there was just too much rice and the spam lacked seasoning and sauce. Overall, this was not worth the wait, they have other items on their menu that you could try, but expect to wait for a lot longer than usual just to get your food.

To my surprise, the side salad was a full generous portion, not the tiny side salad that restaurants usually give. It was a proper salad with fresh local greens, sliced cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, and another white shredded vegetable that I think was radish. My chicken was delicious and the portion of that was generous as well. I tasted my husband's curry but didn't really like the flavor.
