Mt View Bakery was a great local Hawaiian bakery. I got the taro mochi donut. The mochi was chewy but not too dense to make you too full. And the taro added a sweet flavor without making it too sweet. And the price was good. I also bought their famous Stone Cookie. Well, I thought I was buying one but got a whole bag, which explains the price (not too bad though for a whole bag). They low-key weren't that good but at the same time I can't stop eating them so maybe they are good. read more

Mochi donut heaven!! Amazing bakery. ***show up early if you want any selection***. We showed up at 6:40am and already 8-10 people in front of us. Donuts are amazing the butter horn was so good. And all the baked goods look great. The people were super sweet. But struggled with order and using machine to process payment. lol. The line moved slow. But so worth it!! Best bakery on island. Our fav is the original taro mochi donut. All the other mochi donut flavors, though good, tend to be too sweet for our Asian taste. The donuts have such a pleasant mochi chewy texture and are very dense! If you have an air fryer, toast them for a bit and they get all hot and crispy--delicious! 5 stars all the way...first of all driving up to Bakery you stepped back into time, time literally stands still as you approach the bakery. We got there on Saturday morning and they don't open till 7:30am so we had a little wait, but had like 2 other people in front of us and when we left there was a line out the door (mix of local and tourist). Very small bakery with two showcases, one with their every popular Stone Cookies and the other with limited selection of pastries and mini pies (don't let the limited selection fool you, it was all YUMMY). Prices are reasonable for a baked goods (see picture with prices). We went to initially purchase stone cookies for my mom (those are her favoriet) ended up with bags of stone cookies (they now have a soft version) and 2 boxes of baked goods (which didn't make it down the drive to Hilo). A must is their mini pies and pastries, everything was NOT too sweet and just right, don't let the limited selection fool you, its all worth the wait in line and drive up the mountain. So we went to grab coffee nearby after leaving KMC lodge. We want to try stone cookies since it is famous. The woman who is in the registry is really rude. I am a customer asking why i was being over charged for $42 while the cookies i am trying to purchase is only $18. She also entertained the lady on my back while i am still looking if my card was charged for the $42. I am local in Oahu and active military and i never experienced this in other stores. Heard there were mochi donuts in the Big Island?! Say whaaat. It's located in a little "drive thru" street with small shops around in Mountain View. There's barely any front store parking but there are street and next door shop parkings. My roommate wanted to grab these famous Stone Cookies that her cousin requested for. Not knowing that these bags of cookies were sold LITERALLY everywhere in Hilo (lol), we made the trip down. Luckily, I also found out that they sold mochi donuts! YUM. They actively post on Facebook/Instagram with their donut flavors of the day. It's highly, highly recommended to do call in or DM them on IG (with confirmation and reply from them) because the mochi donuts run out QUICK. Their donuts are really moist (a tad on the sweeter side depending on the flavor) and delicious. They are definitely on par with Oahu and Japan ones! I bought Stone Cookies back to Oahu as souvenir for my friends and family. Tasted a soft (NOT SO SOFT LOL) and chocolate chip (LITERALLY STONE) cookies, and there wasn't much flavor. Tasted like a fortune cookie, tbh. I felt that these cookies are great souvenir gifts to those who enjoy a not-so-sweet plain cookie with their milk or coffee. I've lived up this side for long time, we'll over a decade. Mt View is far from town or other bakeries so to get my sweet-tooth fix without having to travel far I'll go to Mt View Bakery. Unfortunately every time I go, it's the same thing. There's usually a line of about 3-5 different customers, and the cashier/bakery front end person is super slow in assisting them, interactions that could have been pleasant were short and unfriendly by staff, fairly priced, and decent eats. Danishes are delightful and filling and mochi donuts are sweet and creative. The musubi rice was over cooked and mushy, will never buy that again. read more
