Service was perfectly fine and cordial. Got there around noon and many things were already sold out. Was able to get a regular malasada (4 out of 5) and an ube malasada (5 out of 5). The real standout was their Reese's peanut butter cup donut - so unique and delicious! Would return again to try other flavors (but would have to come early!).

She assured me these were made to order and, most importantly, not biscuits pretending to be malasadas. So far, we are winning! The location was easy to find, and on a Wednesday morning the line was minimal -- small kine wait. I ordered a dozen to share with our friends from Kentucky who had NEVER had a malasada before, so I was excited to introduce them to this deliciousness. First impression: these malasadas are HUGE. Like baseball-sized huge. And true to what I was told, they were made to order and came out piping hot! We ordered cinnamon and powdered sugar, which was new for me since I'm used to malasadas coated in granulated sugar. They were so hot that the powdered sugar immediately started melting into them. First bite? Not bad. Definitely NOT the biscuit like texture I experienced at another BI spot, so that was already a win. But they still didn't quite have that soft, pillowy texture I was hoping for. That being said, these were easily better than the other two malasada places we tried on the BI in the past. Our Kentucky friends, however, had absolutely no complaints. I'm pretty sure there were some squeals and happy dancing happening, so their first malasada experience was clearly a success. If you've never had a malasada before, this is definitely a good place to start. They're huge, made to order, served piping hot, and most importantly, not biscuit dense. The owner (Brian?) takes his time with each customer, chatting with you to understand what you're looking for and making some suggestions. It's clear he enjoys both his craft and engaging with customers. It was not very busy while we were there, which added to that relaxed, Hawaiian vacation vibe. We really enjoyed the conversation with him and even walked away having learned a few new things. We took our coffee and other purchases to enjoy on the bench outside, along with some stone cookies from nearby. (There were also additional tables and chairs available on a side patio.) The shop keeper was friendly and patient as I browsed the pastry case. I've always been curious about the Dubai chocolate bar, so I decided to splurge and give it a try. Very pricey at $16 for a 4-5" bar, but it was worth it to try it once. The chocolate was smooth and high quality, the pistachio cream was sweet with a hint of pistachio flavor, and the kataifi was pleasantly crunchy. I would have loved more pistachio flavor, but it was a nice little chocolate treat. Looking forward to trying more things from Short n Sweet in the future.
