Chicken terayaki
Jonathan N.

Just as the current rating reflects, this place has a decent menu and pretty good teriyaki chicken but nothing to write home about. Service seems lacking and honestly they could use some service etiquette training as it's not a warm and inviting first impression. I mean, here is the deal. When a customer comes in to spend their cash money ( yes, they only take cash - FYI), the ownership and staff should be happy to have the business and should show that. As for the atmosphere, this is a walk in and order operation with some nice tables to eat at outside in the nice little courtyard like setting. Prices seem reasonable for the Island as well. I can only hope the management takes these reviews into account and the feedback shared as it will only help their business. Best of luck to them.

It's in the side alley by the courtyard of hotel metropole. Hidden gem. Not by the bowling side

Loved it. We ordered take out for the hotel. My husband had a philly chicken cheese and he loved it. I had two chicken tacos with rice and beans. Really loaded and diced chicken meat. The taco sauce was tasty and not spicy. I'm sure they have different kinds. We brought back an extra ham and cheese sandwich cold sandwich for a midnight snack. Both sandwiches came with Cheetos and chips. I heard from our hotel they have great Korean pork and locals fav spot. We will be back.

One of the best options on the island for healthy food at mainland prices. My 5 star review reflects the value based on available options. Let's face it. Most of the restaurants on Catalina are overpriced and have few healthy options. This place has Mexican and Asian meals including teriyaki with veggies for $10, as well as salads. I worked on the island for a couple of months without coming here based on the negative reviews. I finally walked past it on my last day on the island and tried it out. Wish I'd come here sooner. I'd probably be a little lighter. Pay no mind to the negative reviews by wannabe O.C. housewives.

Katie's special. Don't forget to ask for the Asian hot sauce.

This place is super underrated. We've been in Catalina for 4 days and tried almost every restaurant in Avalon and this is my second favorite next to mr nings. Probably the only two places in the city that you can find an actual serving size of cooked vegetables with your meal.

Teriyaki chicken with fried rice and veggies

This restaurant is a fusion of Mexican and Asian cuisine influence. They have tacos, to tortas, to teriyaki chicken, to Korean bbq beef. Plenty of options. My husband and I visited the island with some friends. We came across this restaurant while walking around. Door stays open so you can smell the aroma from the food which is what attracted us to the restaurant along with it being different from other restaurants on the island. Staff was friendly. I caught an error the cashier made on my bill, but he corrected it at the register. I ordered fried rice ($4.00) with veggies (upcharge of $3.50 for the veggies which us ridiculous.. But things on the island are more expensive due to imports so I moved past it.) My friend ordered the teriyaki chicken that came with rice and veggies. He had more veggies than I did on my plate, and it's a veggie plate that I was up charged for. I only had cabbage, peas, and carrots. He had those plus onions, water chestnuts, baby corn, and celery. RIDICULOUS. ***Note to cook or owner. When a customer orders veggie plate GIVE THEM ALL THE VEGGIES. I understand that the cook probably cooked everything together, but he/she needs to portion CORRECTLY especially if a customer is upcharged for the veggies. Also food needs salt. I don't like much salt, but I had to add soy sauce (which I don't usually do) to give the food flavor. I tasted my friends teriyaki chicken and my other friends spicy chicken which both also needed salt. Please note portions not accurate in picture. They give a good portion size. We had been eating the food already when I took the picture when I noticed I was missing veggies.

I can't say it's the worst but it surely isn't the best. The positive: reasonably priced, you can get a meal for less than $10, big portions for your money & located in the courtyard behind my hotel. The "not so" good: I found my rice meal to be bland & without the spicy seasoning it would have no taste. My friend got the vegan option & LOVED her food. So for non-meat eaters, come by & check out the spicy tofu with veggies. Due to its location & price, is give it another try since I loved the hotel we stayed at.

The food was pretty bad. The teriyaki chicken lacked sauce and the spicy pork was way too salty. Even the school lunches taste better -_-

This place is absolutely amazing!!!…read more I had the Smoked Pho and it was some of the best I ever had. The brisket in the smoked pho could be its own entree. Smoked to perfection, full of flavor and tender as can be. The broth was very flavorful and I didn't need any thing extra. Wifey had the Vermicelli Salad with Shrimp and she loved it. My niece had the yellow curry and she loved it. The server was really nice just busy, but she was very friendly. Small place with about 12 tables so it can get busy real fast but there is cool music playing in the background to how the time pass. I promise you that you will not be disappointed!!

Lua Eatery feels like a hidden gem and a special find. What makes their bowl stand out is that the herbs and condiments are already incorporated into the soup, creating a cohesive flavor experience from the first sip. The broth itself is quite tasty with a subtle smoky BBQ note that complements the traditional savory base beautifully. Despite being rich and deeply satisfying, it's not greasy or oily, which makes it feel indulgent yet balanced. Definitely a place we'll be returning to. And as as a bonus, the Dana Point Strand Beach is close by and a great spot to enjoy a post-lunch walk!

The menu will certainly whet your appetite. There are friendly and helpful staff to make your experience better. We ordered the following: 1) Ribeye Bistek Bowl: WOW GREAT FLAVOR AND SEASONINGS. RIBEYE WAS TENDER AND COOKED PERFECTLY!!! I CAN EAT THIS EVERY DAY!!! (I ordered extra portion of ribeye for $13.99. In my opinion perfect serving size for me!!!) 2) Fried Chicken Adobo Bowl: great flavor and huge serving. Chicken tender and juicy. Had to bring home 1/2 of the bowl. 3) Oi Burger Combo: my daughter thoroughly enjoyed the flavor and seasoning. Perfect serving size. Came out hot. 4) 8 pc Egg Rolls: terrific flavor with sweet and sour sauce. Also served very hot. 5) Dynamite Fries: great tasting fries with a good crunch and flavor. Overall, I am smitten with joy to have found a restaurant with so many delicious choices that I'm familiar with. My life's goal is to order at least once, each item. WOW! What a…read moreterrific meal and overall dining experience. A jackpot of a restaurant. The restaurant is spacious with quaint tables and glass walls to enjoy the green trees outside. There is also outdoor seating that looks lovely. I was greeted by a friendly hostess who sat me right away and took my drink order. A second server came up and ensured my drink order was taken. I asked her if she had a recommendation as the yelp photos of the papaya salad and orange chicken were what led me in. She immediately steered me towards the sweet and spicy wontons appetizer and suggested the roast duck with a sweet and spicy sauce. I decided to follow her suggestion. I was not disappointed. The wontons were spiced mild for me but the flavor was through the roof. A sesame sweet sauce served with bok choy and cilantro was absolutely delicious. The duck was very tender and served on a bed of rice with bok choy and pickled cabbage. The duck sauce was perfectly spiced and very flavorful. I enjoyed both sauces so much I finished them both over the last of my rice. I was offered green tea ice cream for dessert and couldn't have been more happy. When asked how I was liking everything , I asked for Jans name and she told me she is a chef. That explained her flare for flavor. She was so sweet and lovely. She in turn asked my name and welcomed me back the next time I'm in town. I had a choice of three restaurants in my hotel parking lot. This being one of them. I feel so lucky to have chosen right. Don't hesitate to dine here. You won't regret it.
